Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

Think it's mainly based around raw food. One recipe is strawberry and banana smoothie (blend 27 bananasa and half pound strawberries!).

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/09/2012 18:57

Blend 27 bananas!?!?!?!? You'd need a mahoosive blender for that surely?

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 13/09/2012 19:19

Wouldn't 30 bananas a day leave you with 'ishoes'???

vnmum · 13/09/2012 19:46

maybe thats how the diet works orange Smile
I have to agree though that I doubt out ancestors ate alot of bananas. considering they grow in tropical climates it kind of limits how many of our ancestors would have access to them.

Smile at all these wiltshire low carbers.

Thegoddessblossom · 13/09/2012 20:06

Tea: Chicken breast covered in cream cheese and pesto wrapped in bacon, served with stir fried cabbage, mushrooms and courgettes. How can this food be allowed??

2 x vodka and tonics.

Just watched EE - what I should be doing is sewing badges onto ds1's cubs jumper. Cannot face it.

Have just found out that I am not only doing the swim at hever castle triathlon at the end of September but the run too....gulp.

vnmum · 13/09/2012 20:27

oooh, williewaggler Revenge is goood this week Smile

SharonGless · 13/09/2012 20:38

Bloss I share your pain, have only just finished naming school uniform this morning. DD is on half days and not d PE

GoldenOrangeWhippoorwhill · 13/09/2012 20:40

Tea tonight was low carb sausages, garlic mushrooms, green beans and savoury pancakes made with coconut flour. I got the coconut flour today and wanted to try it out. The texture reminded me of the chickpea flour you use for onion bhajis and they turned out slightly like omlettes. OK but I think I will look for some other recipes.

After tea I was still a bit peckish so stood at the fridge and snaffled the two leftover sausages, only to realise as I was half way through the second one that I was eating the boys sausages, not my nice low carb, gluten free ones. Oops! They love those crappy Richmond Irish ones, all pink and pappy. I cannot believe that I didn't notice straight away. Worse still, they were really nice. Blush

Sorry your husband is unhappy vnmum. Did you manage to avoid the bad stuff?

Amazing how many people have links to this area. I never think about other Mumsnetters being around. Soon we'll be starting the Wessex Chapter of the Mumsnet Low Carb Society! Grin

SharonGless · 13/09/2012 20:40

Ooops sorry pressed wrong button then
Have started the Shred this morning- who else was dusting it down in anticipation of Bootcamp?
Oliviamumsnet?
B omelette with cheese and mushrooms
L Greek yoghurt with blueberries
T pork belly slices and roasted veg

First glass of red ..,, and breathe

SharonGless · 13/09/2012 20:44

vnmum - your DH is going away soon isn't he? Hope everything ok
Has
Jan2011 been back? If you are lurking giving you a wave

Tea - loving the your friends reaction ! Am going to try your butternut squash recipe.
I am loving that it's getting autumnal and planning lots of yummy soups and casseroles

Thegoddessblossom · 13/09/2012 21:12

Dh just came home from football with some dark chocolate and I got so excited I knocked over my entire pint of water into my lap. So much for no sugar cravings. Have had two squares.

captainmummy · 13/09/2012 21:13

Oh I've got a loverly butternut squash recipe - basically boil the cubed squash with a bayleaf and some turmeric, curry powder and a star anise (if you have one, i never do). Fry some chopped onion (or shallot) in butter and oil with ground coriander, garlic and ginger. Drain squash (leave a bit of liquid) and mix together. I used to serve as a vegetable at curry evenings but can eat it all by itself all by myself....

BIWI · 13/09/2012 21:49

PILs live near Bath, so can I have honorary membership of the SW Chapter?!

Am drinking wine. DH has gone away for the weekend, to Portugal, for a boys' golf weekend, and he has informed he that it is hot and sunny there.

I think I shall have to Leave The Bastard.

In other news:

B - yoghurt, pre-gym
L - pork chop, fried in oil and butter, with the last of the celeriac boulangere (absolutely beautiful, but have discovered it gives me dreadful wind Blush
D - macadamia nuts and white wine Blush

I had my Chinese class tonight, until 9, and I'm tired and can't be arsed to cook, so it will have to do. I'm also justifying it because today is a 'feed' day, according to the fasting lot Grin

Which means, really, that I should make tomorrow a fast day, I think.

OP posts:
captainmummy · 13/09/2012 22:02

How's your fasting going, BIWI?

I fasted on tuesday, mainly to see if I could do it! Before Low-carbing i would be hungry every few hours, a typical 'grazer' I was called. Now I know that it's because of my blood-sugar whipping up and down. I went without breakfast (a 1st, ever) and only ate at about noon, so about 18 hours after previous meal. Wasn't even really hungry and finished the day on about 450cals.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/09/2012 22:03

Technically of course my lovely, he has Left You

HTH

BIWI · 13/09/2012 22:06

'Fasted' on Monday and yesterday - which for me means missing breakfast, and then eating low carb (but trying to be low calorie) the rest of the day. I refuse to count calories, however, so I'm not sure how many I actually had.

But I have dropped a pound already this week. I'm going to try fasting again tomorrow (although it is Friday - - so not sure about that!)

OP posts:
BIWI · 13/09/2012 22:06

Pistey - so I have a clear conscience then?

Celeriac gives me wind too

Revenge was fab but I have eaten far too much Lindt 90% (as in the whole bar Blush) which is exactly the kind of eating behaviour I have been trying to knock on the head. I don't think I will buy it again for a while...

golden, sharon yes DH is due to go away soon. His news was about an ongoing thing that does not seem to be going the right way. He also tends to look on the bad side of things where as I try and look at the positives and find a way around things. I did manage to avoid the stodge. I had 2 squares of dark choc and then we had a lovely tea of pork fillet satay with salad.

golden maybe it's all the Mumsnet low carbers that are buying the double cream in my local tesco because they keep running out Smile

Of course you can have honorary membership BIWI. Maybe everyone should arrange relative visiting trips for the same weekend and we could have a low carb meet Grin

BIWI · 13/09/2012 22:33

... with the added bonus that I could escape from the PILs!

(They are lovely actually - I am mean for saying that)

PrincessSparkle86 · 13/09/2012 22:35

evening...just catching up with the thread... quite a few of you seem to be fasting!

so do you agree its a healthy way to lose weight? i'm not sure to be honest...

That butternut squash recipe sounds very yummy indeed captainmummy

And on the banana topic.... say noooo to the bananas lol!

OrangeEyesDoMoreThanSee · 13/09/2012 22:36

Swapped salad for the celeriac from the fridge, way too cold for salad.

vnmum hope all is ok and the pile of stooge was avoided

WillieWaggledagger that er thing with the chocolate happens here a bit too regularly, it's on offer at our corner shop and I love my nibbles of an evening. It will all stop at bootcamp

Princess - I'm not convinced about the whole fasting thing, because I think it's too easy to switch it into calorie counting. And I'm never going there again. It's so negative and obsessive.

That said, as you reach target, it does get harder to shift the weight, and there is some sense in the idea of cutting back on the calories. So I'm giving it a whirl to see if I can get the weight loss going again.
