This is the first time I've done Jillian when on AF. I only have 45 mins tops between coming home and an onslaught of boys so sometime i just do three circuits from NMTZ and BFBM. I am aiming for at least 4 times a week but find going away a challenge.

Can I join you?
Just done day 5, level 1 shred. OMG, I think I am going to die!
I am seriously unfit, but I am just about managing to get through it each day.
It is made harder by my 4 year old twins trying to join in and telling me off if I don't do any of the moves right! 'that's not right mummy, you're supposed to do it like this'!

My copy of 30 day shred arrived several days ago. It's sitting there judging me as i haven't taken it out of its wrapper yet. I'm a bit scared of discovering just how unfit i am. Please can someone give me a big boot up the backside and make me do it....

Keep going Dawn and soo you wont be seriously unfit!

DH has returned with his laptop, so back to Insanity for me this afternoon. Pure cardio and abs. Did Ripped Ls 3 and 4 yesterday. I found the cardio easier (although that has never been the bit of JM stuff that I found hardest.) I found that tricky cardio bit in L4 (circuit 2 I think) much easier - all of Insanity cardio is pretty much at that level for 20 minutes at a time, so unsurprisingly it seems easy in comparison. Most of the strength still felt tough. I think my press-ups have improved (there are a lots of these in Insanity) and i can push them out a lot quicker now - DH commented when we were working out together on Saturday. Not sure I can see any difference on the rest of the strength stuff, apart possibly from jumping lunges. There is a LOT of plyometrics in Insanity so perhaps finally they are not quite such the nemesis to me that they have been in the past!

So what is Insanity like compared to JM? I must admit I a interested. The fact it doesn't need weights makes it attractive with respect to travelling.

Report
notyummy · 15/08/2012 11:11

Geek - It is tough. The cardio is properly, properly hard. Lots of consecutive exercises back to back that really challenge you (press-ups, burpees; mountain climbers;sprints; jumps squats; moguls; power jumps - like cannon balls in Ripped for those who have done that etc etc.) Most of them are designed as interval training sessions so you do 3/4 minutes and then get a 30 second break and re-start. None of the ones I have done so far have been more than 40 minutes, but I know a couple of the later ones (there three ones I haven't done yet) are 50/60 minutes. That does include quite a bit of stretching though - probably more than 10 minutes of it.

Ooh good new thread!

Haven't posted for ages.
I love NMTZ. I think it is my favourite of all. Although I haven't tried Killer or BFBM
Out of all of them it has made the most difference to my stomach. But it is so long, my whole evening is gone by the time I've done it and then showered! I still can't do all the proper press ups but doing them on my knees still hurts!

I have realised however that, despite purchasing a nifty electronic pelvic toner and using it daily for 6 months, that my pelvic floor is still crap Blush.
So I have gone back to my cones. I seem to have lost half of the smaller one Grin but since I can't even hold the larger one in with no weight for very long, I think it will be many months till I would need it!

I was 8st 6 and 3/4 this morning, So I have lost just about a stone since March! However I am on holiday for a couple of weeks now and I can't see myself doing a workout at all more than 2 or 3 times, so I will probably be back up to 9st by the end of my hols!

I feel so much better when I've done a workout although I often have to force myself to start it!

Report
threestepsforward · 15/08/2012 12:26

notyummy that sounds horrendous! Grin

My (lightweight by comparison) Turbofire HIITS have 1 min on and just under 1 min off and I really need that recovery time! I like her HIITs though as the cardio elements change quickly, that and the weird electronic sound effects!

Hi Youvecat!!

I totally agree. I feel really good after a workout, but working myself up to doing it is often more exhausting than the workout itself!

Hello! Found the new thread - I just thought the old one had gone a bit quiet . . . Hmm

Well done everyone! I am glad to see some new people as I sometimes feel I am the only one struggling with the basics.

Just checking in to report my "diligence"

Shred Level 1 Day 5 completed - 30 points!!
Day 6 completed - 29 points
Day 7 completed - 29 points

And I am now pain-free (woo hoo!) and have dropped back below 9 stone (double woo hoo!) which is probably not due to the Shred as it doesn't make me lose weight (I sneer at the "Lose 20lb in however long" sticker on the front.)

So am pleased with myself.

Hi all and welcome to the other newbies :). Day 5 of DS today. I didn't feel tired in my muscles this morning before starting, but now my upper body muscles seem to tire the quickest. Still only on 1kg. Am in awe of those of you bandying around figures like 5kg!

Dawn - I find that it really helps my motivation signing in here each day to update on progress :)

Day 12 L2 30DS, still don't feel ready for L3 yet. Did L1 afterwards with heavier weights to try and push myself a bit as I have no upper body strength!

I caught killer on the fitness channel this afternoon. I tried to do it but I have no co ordination and usually have to watch a dvd first before I can pick up the moves so I was pretty rubbish at it. Was still shaking afterwards though so it might have had some effect.

Just caught an ad for Body Revolution on the fitness channel which looks just what I need to move on to . More shredding today...it's like an old friend now :)

Greedygirl please have my copy of Ripped. It's just sat here doing nothing and it might as well go to a good home.

Day 3 of DS still in a lot of pain especially my calves. Arms are fine probably as I'm using bean cans still. When does the pain stop?

Anyone tried any Bob Harper?

His ripped core workout is ace.

Sweetkitty I found at about day 5 it was much better; certainly the groaning when I sat down and the sideways walk down the stairs began to ease by then. Make sure you do all the stretching at the end and drink plenty of water.I know at the moment it's bloody hard but honestly it does get better, much better :) I love Jillian and that's coming from a complete sports refusenik.

Sweetkitty I found Day 5 too!

I shall never forget the crying out in pain when I sat down on the loo in the middle of the night!

Have just done Shred L1 Day 8 - 30 points! < knackered >

If I carry on I should be on Level 2 (my fave) by Sunday.

Now off to have bath and make myself presentable. I have had my hair cut and am really pleased with it but it doesn't tie up properly any more and so after shredding I now look like the Frizz Monster of Doom.

I'm on Day 9 of 30DS and am still enjoying it although getting a tad bored of it now. I've decided I'll do one more day of Level 1, and as I'm doing it 5 out of 7 days, will start Level 2 on Monday. Had a sneaky preview after I finished my workout earlier and ... I'm a bit scared!! Looks much harder so I'm (kind of!) looking forward to going up a level.

Have been wondering about the weights - I've got an extremely old set of hand and ankle weights but the hand weights are very light so I'm thinking of getting some heavier ones. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Was just about to Shred after a week of NMTZing, and DD just vomited everywhere. Oh god we're on an overnight ferry tomorrow night. All squished into the same cabin. Please don't let this be a bug we'll all get Shock

Oh hi, it is so difficult to keep up with you all! Unplanned rest day yesterday but back on track with day 3 of RI30 L1 today.

Ilovelemoncurd - oh no, hopefully just a one off! Sometimes my ds is sick but then no-one else gets it and all is well, they bounce back so quickly so fingers crossed for you. Thank you for offering to join me in being virtuous in September! HAve a lovely holiday.

Gypsyfloss - thank you Smile. Very kind of you and saved me £8.

DamnDeDoubtance - I keep hearing about Bob, might try him after ripped.

Quite scared what some of you have said about ripped being a lot harder after level 1 - I am finding level 1 is really making me ache the next day, taking me back to the early days of shred! Gonna treat myself to a massage a the weekend!

Just marking my place. Our holiday is over and I missed Jillian and you very much. Although swimming a lot was fab, too. It means I am not starting all over again.

Damnde I think notyummy does Bob Harper sometimes (fnar fnar!)

mrssmooth have a look on argos or amazon for weights, or do you have a local sports shop? If you can, and your budget stretches, try and get a selection (say a set of 3) as you'll find you quickly want to move up in weight as you get stronger (maybe ranging from 1 kg to 3 or 4 kg?)

Ginger, welcome back! Glad you had a great time. Ilovelemon, oh no Sad. Keeping fingers crossed it's not a lurgy just before your hols...

I did my 15 min HIIT yesterday and have just done my 55 min Turbofire.

Rest day for me as I'm at a wedding tomorrow. Registry office do with a nice lunch afterwards Smile. My newly 40 head is putting me in a panic that my dress is not age-appropriate (it's not hot pants or spandex or anything!) - it's really quite nice, bit above knee, a-line-ish with a collar, quite 60s looking, with tights (bare/nude legs never, my legs look like walls sausages). But I've convinced myself I've seen very young things in similar get-up so now fretting

Have a great rest of day everyone Smile
