Bonkey, I try to do 1200 on my non-fast days (that's my BMR, I think!) but it usually ends up around 1400, so I don't think that's too few. I suppose it's a case of giving it a go and seeing what works for you. I have been on it 4 weeks, and I have adjusted it to suit me, so I fast 3 days, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so it's every other day plus weekends when I can eat whatever (within reason!).

As for what happens when you stop, erm, I think the idea is that this is a lifelong thing. It puts your body into a mode of repairing cells, rather than reproducing them, which is why it's so good for you and works to reduce incidence of cancers, heart disease, alzheimers etc. But, like every way of eating, you can always just stop and do something else if you choose to and then I suppose the effects would wear off.

KatoPotato · 04/09/2012 21:09

I'm Tempted to try making my two non gym days my fast days, that's Thursday and Sunday... At what time do you eat the 500?

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 21:11

kato I think you can eat them how you like. Either spread them out to small meals or a big ish one

RightBuggerforGOLD · 04/09/2012 21:20

That's right - most people on the forum split it into two meals, and most have lunch and dinner. The guy from the program (Dr Mosley) had breakfast and dinner. I generally do breakfast and then either lunch or dinner depending what I want that day. Try it out and see what works for you. x

sleepychunky · 04/09/2012 21:35

Hi everyone, just realised I haven't posted for a day or two. I've been back at work since yesterday and getting back into my routine after 3 weeks off has been hard! Good thing though is that loads of people at work commented that I looked really good so people who haven't seen me every day can obviously tell that I've lost weight Grin
Have been very good in the last couple of days - the office has always been my downfall as there are constantly cakes and biscuits there, but I have avoided them in the last 2 days except for a tiny sliver of someone's birthday cake yesterday. DH went shopping today and accidentally bought £8 worth of cherries (!) which I'm going to take in tomorrow as i won't get through them all on my own at home.
It's my weigh in tomorrow and I'm really hoping to have lost another lb to make it 21lb. We've got our best friends' wedding on Friday and I am not going to watch what I eat and drink that day so I'm going to be very good tomorrow and Thursday.
I was going to go to zumba yesterday for the first time ever but was just too shattered by 8pm after my first day back at work, so am going to go next Monday instead.
Will be following everybody doing 5:2 with interest to see if it works - I don't think it's for me and I'm doing pretty well just using MFP but I may reconsider!

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 21:40

I have been reading the 5:2.
I think I may have a test day tomorrow to see if I can stick to 500cals (if nothing else it will give me a kickstart again) .

sleepy I lurve cherries! Grin

KatoPotato · 04/09/2012 22:25

I'm going to try it Thursday. Protein shake for brekkers - 190
Chicken and rocket wrap for dinner 300...

fivegomadindorset · 05/09/2012 06:49

Morning all, hope everyone has a good day today.

InMySpareTime · 05/09/2012 06:55

Good morningSmile,
DCs back at school today, I have a bonus day off, I'm going to have a workout Wednesday and dig out my pilates DVD.
I sort of do "fast days", looking at my MFP, days where I'm not getting much exercise I eat around 1000 cals, if I'm exercising I eat nearer 1400, I consistently net around 900 on average but not too sure how accurate MFP exercise is, so underestimate to be sure, and only count raised heart rate as exercise.
I think if I did 500 I would get too hungry and fail.

InMySpareTime · 05/09/2012 07:37

I had a sneaky weigh in, and wish I hadn't now. I've put on 2lb inexplicably, back up to 12 11, BMI firmly back over 35. Ah well, definitely working out today then, I've not come this far to give up at the first hurdle.

TheOneWithTheHair · 05/09/2012 07:42

IMST it could be stress related. Your mil is not easy.

I very nearly had a parenting fail. Ds2 is starting nursery. I thought it was tomorrow. Turns out it's not until Tuesday. He'd have been devastated if I'd got it wrong. It does mean aqua aerobics will have to wait a week though.

I'm feeling good food wise today.

MrsPnut · 05/09/2012 09:20

Morning, all other occupants of the house (except the cat) have been dispatched to their respective institutions. This meant I could order DD2 the Boden boots I wanted to buy yesterday and couldn't because OH was hanging around making a nuisance of himself.

I have to drive into the city in a minute so I am going to try to find a free parking space and walk to my appointment, saving money and being more healthy at the same time.

nochipsthanks · 05/09/2012 11:02

Hello everyone, sorry was AWOL for a few days. So sorry about your nana littlemiss . Hope your granddad is okay stealth Sleepy how are you with your IL stress?

Have decided to eat for nutrition lately. Had 15 serves of fruits and veg on Monday! Yoohoo! (Including a divine apple, carrot and cashew curry. Mmm.)

Today ? started with juicing a cucumber, celery, ginger, two pears and a lemon. Then ate fruit. Lunch is going to be spinach, blue cheese and walnut salad. Dinner is a tuna nicoise salad and red wine. Have been juicing for 3 days now ?and have the runs?but feel lighter.

Have put on a pound though! I am not spinning, just doing gentle exercise as my ?heart scare? (which wasn?t) really scared me.

nochipsthanks · 05/09/2012 11:02

anf it is a fail on the strikeouts!

have good days. Grin

slothprincess · 05/09/2012 13:30

IMSP I seem to have inexplicably put on a couple of pounds since my last weigh in on friday and I've been eating well so I don't know what that's about :(

I know I shouldn't weigh myself more that once a week as seeing my weight creeping up for no apparent reason really knocks my motivation. Hopefully it'll have vanished by the time I weigh in this friday.

TheOneWithTheHair · 05/09/2012 14:04

nochips you can strike out in full sentences. It makes it easier. Grin

InMySpareTime · 05/09/2012 14:30

I'm feeling good today, I did my 30 minute Wii workout, and 40 minutes of my Pilates DVD, that should compensate for date night tonight, I'm off to sort out dinner that's nice but not too calorific.

InMySpareTime · 05/09/2012 17:02

I'm doing pasta carbonara, with a slice of golden syrup cake and a couple of glasses of wine for dinner. I put it in MFP in advance so I won't be tempted to sneak in extras later.

BonkeyMollocks · 05/09/2012 17:05

Well I failed on the 500 cals....not for me!

However, i will be in on cals today for the firsttime in a while providing I don't get the munchies later.

IMST Golden syrup cake it the best, enjoy!

sloth Chin up, it will be gone soon if theres no reason for it to be there! Hold out til friday!

chips 15 serves of fruit and veg Shock Impressive!

KatoPotato · 05/09/2012 18:26

I love MFP! Please do take a look at my day! Dad was over visiting with gifts from my sister in San Francisco (I know, sickening!) so I've had Cheetos, peanut butter m&ms and a burger king dinner! Still 45 cals under and a Pilates class to go haha! Tomorrow is my attempt at 500... Let's see!!!

slothprincess · 05/09/2012 19:31

Argh!!! Thanks Bonkey but I've just eaten 6 choccy biscuits, fish and chips and 2 glasses of vino so I think that mysterious 2 pounds will be sticking around for a while!

MilkshakeMaker · 05/09/2012 19:57

Bonkey thats quite a good idea, go for 500 and even if you fail that you've still done less than the usual goal so should be win win.....hmmmm Kato I may join you tomo!

reastie · 05/09/2012 21:14

Hi all

Interested to hear about this fast day thingy but tbh I know it wouldn't work for me personally so will view with interest from afar.

Well, things here not going so good - over calories again today and not shifted any weight in over a week. Not been to the gym since Friday and can't get there again until the week end. Felt so hungry all day today being back at work - it's hard baking jam tarts and victoria sandwiches all day and not find the smell makes you hungry Confused . I will get there though, this is just a blip whilst I adjust to being back to work

fivegomadindorset · 05/09/2012 21:44

Evening everyone.

I am sure the SW scales are dodgy, in fact they mentioned that they sometimes weren't accurate to a friend Hmm Anyway today mostly consisted of fruit, coming down with something and didn't want to eat soup. Put on 1.5lbs allegedly, and have had a small serving of curry and rice with naan bread for supper. I have sewn name tapes onto uniform and have two lemon drizzle cakes in the oven.

StealthPolarBear · 06/09/2012 07:28

IMST that's the attitude! Remember it's not what the scales say now that matters, it;s what they will say in a month's time, and all the stuff you're doing will get you there.
The 5:2 thing does interest me, less from a diet aspect and more from an overall health aspect - I've been reading a lot about how low cal diets are good for you. However I worry that it's a bit faddy, and so don't think it's for me for now. Also, as others say, any diet where yu 'fail' if you eat 600 cals a day is a bit stressful. However...I have 2 days at work where I often don't get the opportunity to eat so it would be easy. Am talking myself into it now, might give it a go.
My grandad is not well :( He's apparently in a worse way that I originally thought. He's nealy 90, which I think is muddying the waters - they're treating him as an old man, and don't realise how unlike him this is - until a week ago he was driving 50 miles to his caravan every weekened, cutting his grass, sitting out in the sun, going for little walks. Last year he was in hospital with "chest pains" which they couldn't get to the bottom of, until he sheepishly admitted he'd been climbing round on his garage roof and wriggling in through the window (some stuff that was piled up had fallen in front of the door) at which point they diagnosed a pulled muscle in his chest, slapped his hnd and sent him home!
