Oooh, hello - I usually just cheer you guys on silently, but thought I'd de-lurk for this question! Littlemiss I've been doing a version of 5:2 (but fasting 3 days instead of 2 per week). I have lost a stone in 4 weeks and think it's fab. You eat 500 cals a day on each fast day (600 for men), the other 5 days just eat normally. On the 5:2 thread someone recently posted a link to that horizon program, definately watch it, it explains all the health benefits (beyond weight loss). Hth. xx

fivegomadindorset · 04/09/2012 17:07

I am joining the pound off over night.

There is a thread about 5:2 on here I think a lot are doing it littlemiss might be good to ask on there?

LV how is your course going?

I am slightly exercise envy of you all at the moment, however my friend is moving back to Ireland and says that I can have her cross trainer, woo hoo, so that can go in the bedroom. My DC's would kill me if I went to the gym in the evening and once they have gone to bed all oomph has gone.

littlemissstan · 04/09/2012 17:08

Hi RightBugger thank you! It was the Horizon programme DP watched, he's very excited about it as he has high-ish cholesterol and apparently it helps? My concern is that I do quite a lot of exercise, do you find you have enough energy for the gym on a fast day? I think I will give it a go up until my birthday in the hope I can get into my "don't-be-silly-I'm-not-really-30" dress...

MilkshakeMaker · 04/09/2012 17:52

The results on the 5:2 diet do sound quite good, I was thinking of doing it for a month or so to give me a bit of a kick as I'm not doing well at all these last few weeks, I quite often go the day without eating til evening anyway so its very tempting... Although I alway say I'm not interested in fad diets!

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 17:56

Haven't caught up yet but can someone explain the 5:2 diet to me please?

Since I last posted I have maintained. Which also means I have learnt what I need to do to maintain, however I am still not under 12st and I would very much like to be!

TheOneWithTheHair · 04/09/2012 18:00

Afternoon all.

Well it was a very successful day at Gulivers. We walked miles. Today I think I've done ok calorie wise due to not eating much.

Breakfast: Belvita
Lunch: small chips.
Snack: ice cream Blush
Dinner : sweet chilli chicken wrap.

MilkshakeMaker · 04/09/2012 18:03

5:2 is eating normal for 5 days and 'fasting' for 2 days( its not proper fasting tho just keeping to 500cals) It's being plugged a lot with people saying its good and quick results...

RightBuggerforGOLD · 04/09/2012 18:20

Not everybody gets quick results, well not wrt weight anyway. I think it depends a lot on what you eat on your 5 feed days - if you go over the top and pig out, then all you do is replace the calories you didn't eat on your 2 fast days, so you just maintain the same weight. You can eat normally, just don't go mad and have too much.

I laughed at the gym question - I don't exersize at all, so no I don't go to the gym on fast days or any day! But I would imagine you could go in the morning, before your body realises it's missing some food! I personally wouldn't go in the evening after having so few calories that day tbh, but maybe it'd be ok once you started?! Let us know! xx

MilkshakeMaker · 04/09/2012 18:24

Oh pants. Knew it sounded to good to be true! How long have you been doing it RightBugger?

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 18:30

Ahh ok.

So on the non fasting days you basically have to stick to sensible food.

I take it you have a few normal days and then a fast and so on??

Same as Milkshake, wondering if a slight change will give me back some motivation!

InMySpareTime · 04/09/2012 18:30

5:2 would not work for me, my lifestyle is too active to cope with 500 cals a day, I get shaky if I don't eat regularly, and I'd be too tempted to eat crap on non-fast days.
My current plan is reducing portion sizes, really enjoying the food I choose to eat, and not snacking during the day. I have lost a stone and a half in 2 months that way, people are commenting on my loss, and I feel I can live this way long term.
What happens when you stop doing 5:2, do you just go back to old food habits?

I had granola for breakfast, homemade curry for lunch and a Greek salad platter for dinner.

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 18:31

So if I stuck to 1200 cals on the non fast days (which I can get by quite well on) ans then had 2 days a week on 500cals would that work?

Or is that too few?

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 18:34

Actually now I think about it, t'is too complicated for me Grin

MilkshakeMaker · 04/09/2012 18:40

I honestly think that nothing is better for weight loss than low cals and exercise (this thread..we rock!) but it requires so much will power and I cant find mine lately and not quite sure how to get it back especially if the photos arent working

fivegomadindorset · 04/09/2012 18:41

Way too compicated for me, I would be afraid of binging.

StealthPolarBear · 04/09/2012 19:04

There seems to be a few of us who are motivationally challenged at the moment. Yesterday was bad for snacks. Today I am begrudgngly sticking it, but don't really have the motivation, I've lost my sense of challenge. If I could get past the point where I'm 12st on a bad day I think I'd get some back, but at the moment I'm in a "nothing will work" frame of mind.

fivegomadindorset · 04/09/2012 19:15

I agree about motivationally challenged or in other words just plain lazy. I think on the very first thread youd started stealth I siad I wanted to be able to go and buy clothes from normal shops.

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 19:19

Yep agree with that.

I'm struggling this week because ds has started school so i have been comfort eating and boredom eating. Today is a particularly bad day but it needs to stop. I will not shift any weight this way, I know that, but I just can't seem to get back on it like I was :(

Stealth How is your Grandad?

StealthPolarBear · 04/09/2012 19:20

I know it well! What do we have to do to get our collective diet mojo back?

StealthPolarBear · 04/09/2012 19:24

Thanks for asking bonkey, he's much the same I think which is good. He's probably driving them all mad with his talking :o he's having a load of tests, nothing unusual back so far. May be just an infection, which I know can be serious in a man his age but they started him on antibiotics straight away, so hopefully if it is that, its alreaady being treated.
Sorry to hear about your lack of motivation. Delaying works for me sometimes, have you tried that?

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 19:26

Thats good, hope everything is ok in the end.

Delaying as in have time off?
I have tried to go easy on myself over the last few days but I can feel myself slipping everyday. I just need to drag myself back up and crack on.
.

I will get there!

fivegomadindorset · 04/09/2012 19:33

Delaying is what me got in this trouble again.

StealthPolarBear · 04/09/2012 19:34

No, sorry delay as in defer. Someone on here mentioned it. You get the chocolate craving, look at the clock, its 20 to 3, so you say at 3 you'll have the chocolate if you still want it. I always still want it, but often the urge to cram the entire 200g bar into my mouth has subsided. Works sometimes for me, depending on my mood.

BonkeyMollocks · 04/09/2012 19:35

Ahhhh...maybe I will try that!

I normally scoff on impulse so having to think may help.

fivegomadindorset · 04/09/2012 20:15

Oh that sounds interesting. I get a chocolate craving at work and go can I really be arsed to unlock, and lock again 7 gates out and then 7 gates back again. Usually that helps.
