Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

My emmental melted. It turned from a lasagne to a cheesy, tomatoey, creamy mince dish. It still tasted lovely though and the DC had seconds. It could have been my budget brand emmental or maybe I cooked it too long or too hot. I might try it with the leek sheets next.

I made a bechamel sauce with butter, double cream, grated cheddar and nutmeg and it was delish.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 15/08/2012 19:34

vnmum I didn't eat any dairy as my dd is intolerant and I am still bf, but last Friday I had a lot of buffalo mozzerella to test dd's reaction and it may have been that which caused my skin to flare up, thanks for the suggestion

SharonGless · 15/08/2012 19:47

Life even

AuntieMaggie · 15/08/2012 21:55

I'm really interested in doing this but the thing that puts me off is the fruit thing - I love fruit especially citris fruit. Is citris fruit a complete no no and if so why?

BIWI · 15/08/2012 22:23

All sugar is a 'no no' when you're low carbing. And fruit, sadly, is sugar.

Sugar - like all carbohydrates - causes the body to release insulin, a hormone that helps to 'sweep' sugar out of the blood. But if you're eating carbs, the amount of sugar in the blood stream is so high that the body can't use all of it for fuel, and the insulin 'sends' it to be stored as fat.

On Bootcamp you can't eat any fruit for the first two weeks. This is to help break the addiction to carbs and curb you of your sweet tooth. After the first two weeks you can re-introduce some fruit, like berries, as these are lower in carbs.

A satsuma or a clementine have 8.5g/8.7g carbs per 100g - unless you're eating only a tiny fruit, or half a fruit, then you will be consuming a lot of carbs in one go.

Although we're not really trying to count carbs on Bootcamp, to give you an idea for comparison, if you were doing Atkins induction (the strictest phase, so it sort of compares with Bootcamp) you are only allowed 20g of carbs per day.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 15/08/2012 22:59

Hadn't realised fruit was so bad and I had a nectarine today, oops.

emmak86 · 16/08/2012 07:28

Morning all Grin

Posting extra early today as its DP birthday and hes working nights so we had to be up and early to do the presents when he got back!

B- fruit juice and 2 slices of turkey
L- will be : salmon fillet with soy and chilli and salad Smile

Does anyone have any idea how i can introduce more fat into my diet? I dont like cream on its own but i could use it as an ingredient.. Peepercorn sauces etc, i also dont like cream cheeses but i do like cheddar and parmesan.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 16/08/2012 08:01

Lots of oily salad dressing, Emma? Cheese sauce made out of double cream, grated cheddar, black pepper? Add pesto to things?

10 stone 1.5 this morning! Grin Grin I am so nearly back at my pre-pg no 1 weight! Never mind that I was bit overweight then, it's progress. I'm feeling a bit flabby, though - must do some proper toning exercise. I'm setting myself a new exercise goal to start on Monday - I will do the Shred for 30 days running. I'm going to a wedding in late Sep and the dress I want to wear is a size 10. It does zip up now, but the waistband is pretty tight and so the contrast between my waist and hips is rather pronounced (and not in a good way). Is there a word for muffin-top when it is below a tight waistband rather than above? It's the same area, anyway. The dress is a halterneck and I haven't worked out how I will bf in it without the whole top half falling down, but I really want to wear it! I bought it on Ebay 3 years ago for a winter event and when it came it was definitely a summer frock - it's bright pink cotton, from Coast. I've never worn it to anything yet.

emmak86 · 16/08/2012 08:06

Thanks TITD cheese sauce is a
Good idea.. Might have to have cauliflower cheese one night Smile yummy!

Do u buy ready made pesto or are we meant to make our own?

topsi · 16/08/2012 08:41

Emma, think the fruit juice is a bad idea, it is full of sugar!

clarabellabunting · 16/08/2012 08:42

Morning all!

Well I did a bit of research about low-carb gravy yesterday because I was really really missing and craving gravy and couldn't bear the thought of having a slow cooked lamb joint last night without it.

Turns out that Xanthan gum may be the answer. I happened to have some in my cupboard so just reduced and reduced the juices and stock down and added a tiny sprinkling of Xanthan gum (maybe a tsp, if that) and it really thickened up.

It didn't really taste exactly like gravy - just a thick 'jus'. But it made all the difference to the meal and I really enjoyed it.

Xanthan gum has 8g of carbs per tsp but I wouldn't say I even had 1/4 of that in the bit of gravy I had. Plus it contains 8g of dietary fibre per tsp too so if you're following Atkins, you subtract that from the carb total, which makes a net carb content of 0g.

sybilfaulty · 16/08/2012 08:59

TITD, you are an inspiration! Well done. I love getting into clothes and discovering that my wardrobe is actually full of nice things rather than the dreary jeans and baggy shirts that I used to wear.

I bought a Boden dress on Ebay, which is size 12 and made of cotton so no give! It does up and is even loose on the bum. Bit tight on the tits so I would give people at work an eyeful but am hopeful that they will diminish in time.

Emma, salad dressing is s very easy way of upping your fat, also if you like them the odd pork scratching is a very high fat, salty, drinks time treat. Def ditch the fruit juice - it's much worse than fruit as it has no fibre.

Clara the gravy sounds yum.

Hope all the holiday girls are doing well.

mummyduff · 16/08/2012 10:03

Thegoddessblossom laughing so much at carb police and very Envy of you in hot hot hot crete!!

Hi to the newbies!

Breakfast was coffee today and not sure rest of the day as we are off to the funeral of my DH cousin, only 40, Sad

Have a nice day everyone..

emmak86 · 16/08/2012 10:32

Problem is ladies... I dont like milk or water or coffee or tea, i was living on fizzy drinks before.. So now alls i have left to drink is fruit juice or still flavored water!
I get that its not allowed but theres nothing else i can drink :/

Thats probably the reason why i still getvthe odd craving.. It is annoying!! X

emmak86 · 16/08/2012 10:33

When i say fruit juice.. I mean diluted squash btw x

Jins · 16/08/2012 10:59

Emma I never gave up my black coffee, diet coke or sugar free squash. Blush

Sweeteners can cause problems for some people but keeping hydrated is more important

emmak86 · 16/08/2012 11:05

Thanks jins feel a tad better to
Know that Smile x

mummyduff · 16/08/2012 11:07

Emma I also never gave up coffee or wineBlush

NigellasGuest · 16/08/2012 12:56

YES!!! yes! yes! whoop whoop and all that!!
I saw a 9 on the scales today. 9 stone 13 and a half pounds to be exact so only just ..... but I've not seen a 9 since starting this WOE - was putting on and taking off the same 2 or 3 pounds for what felt like forever.
Now I can tell myself there IS a downward trend rather than STS for ever & ever.

I guess i will carry on with my current routine, which is to only eat when I'm hungry. Even if this does mean that I don't eat til late afternoon or even the evening. That can't be starvation if I don't feel starving, can it? (I do have 2 or 3 coffees with some double cream, plus copious amounts of water, throughout the day).

NigellasGuest · 16/08/2012 13:02

TITD well done - you will make it into that dress I'm sure. I think that kind of goal is the best. Despite me really, really wanting to see a 9 on the scales ^^ at the end of the day, if I had the choice between that and fitting into the dresses I was wearing 5 years ago, it's a no-brainer.

Emma do you like mayonnaise? sometimes if I feel I haven'/t had much fat recently I grab some greeen salad and dump some Hellmans on it. Also, I don't think you need to give up coffee. Perhaps if you keep just one vice-drink it's ok. I seem to be doing ok without giving up coffee, although that's the only "bad" drink I have (I don't drink any squash, juice etc, etc, only water). Although Jins looks like she has done ok with still having a whole heap of evil liquids! I reckon this WOE is ultimately a very individual thing. Once you're past Bootcamp, it's kind of a learning curve to see what really does work for you. But, you do have to do Bootcamp first.

MegTheCat · 16/08/2012 13:33

Lublilee - this is the bootcamp recipe thread - lots of yummy ideas
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/big_slim_whatever_weight_loss_club/1447493-BIWIs-Bootcamp-Recipe-Thread
If you think you really can't cope with the carb flu, you could lead gradually into bootcamp by including nuts and berries for a week or 2 first (that's what I did). Just don't expect dramatic weight loss straight away if you do.

I have a question: I've started getting leg cramps when I wake up in the morning. Has anyone else had this? I am taking a multivitamin / multimineral but wondering if I might be deficient in something.

vnmum · 16/08/2012 14:00

meg leg cramps can be a sign of potassium deficiency. Either get some lo salt to use on food or a faster way to reverse it is to get some carb free electrolyte tablets. I use High 5 Zero cal and get them from a cycle shop. You do need to read the ingredients before purchase though just to check the carb content per tablet

Thegoddessblossom · 16/08/2012 14:29

Meg - I get cramp if I don't drink enough water.

Emma - I have never stopped drinking coffee with milk or tea and I drink caffiene free diet coke.

All I have eaten here so far is eggs, cheese, ham, salad, and a few nuts!! We won't talk about the alcohol.

MegTheCat · 16/08/2012 16:44

thanks vnmum I will try the electrolyte tablets. I have just been to a bike shop this afternoon, annoyingly. Never mind, I can cycle to the shop tomorrow and try out my new helmet.
I feel like I'm drinking loads of water but havent kept track of how much tbh so will try and step that up a bit as well.
