Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

MM, yum, a spoonful of cocoa to sort out my chocolate cravings then?

fufulina · 13/08/2012 20:04

Thanks jins. Watching horizon on iplayer now. Very very interesting.

emmak86 · 13/08/2012 20:05

I also think id be a bit worried about runing what ive started on bootcamp by starting the intermittent fasting..

If you can eat what u like on the non fast days Then surely it dfeats the object.. I think ill stick to what im doing as its making me feel so much better than i did Smile

hazchem · 13/08/2012 20:06

Well it's been a funny few days here.

Saturday evening went to BBQ was very good with the food but not so great with the wine and ended up violently ill. Sunday saw me have a handful of grapes and 1/4 of scone but I thought that wasn't to bad considering how freaking awful I felt. I didn't really drink that much but we didn't eat until something like 10

B: spinach omelet
L: mackrel spinach salad
D: cauliflower mash, savoy cabbage and salmon (it was delisssssshhhhhous)

Lots of snacks today but cheese and nuts.

We had a long boring weight to see a consultant who basically said "it's eczema use some creams" !!!!!!!!! What like we haven't done that all ready.

Jins · 13/08/2012 20:06

Try to give it three days to get the cravings out of your system.

There's some pretty amazing low carb chocolate recipes around. I had a recipe once for a chocolate mousse that was very Cadbury like Grin. Will have to dig it out.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/08/2012 20:21

Oh please pleeeeease do so. I'm chewing my own arm off here!

Lorelilee · 13/08/2012 20:53

Hi guys - back after a week's holiday. Am so chuffed that I only put on 1lb - especially given the fact that (and thank god BIWI is not here) I had a bottle of wine every single night! :)

Jins · 13/08/2012 21:12

Makescakes you'll probably find cravings will reduce in the first week and it's much better to tough it out. I did find a diet coke and something fatty like a lump of cheese used to take the edge off cravings.

Your first day looks a bit low in fat which could be a reason why you're not feeling so great. You need fat for energy now Grin

I promise I'll look for the recipe when I'm near my pc again.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 13/08/2012 21:37

Makes cakes read up first, I really really suggest reading up first as otherwise the carb crash will catch you unawares and you will (as some who have gone before us) think this WOE is bad and give up.

It really works, but ensure you drink lots and lots of water, you need to be sloshing and that will be quite strange at first. Menu plan and ensure you always have low carb things ti hand in casse you need to snack. Also do not just weigh but also measure your tummy, thighs and arms, and anywhere else you fancy, because I see my weight stay the same but my shape change drastically.

Have had a better day today knowing it is my 'night off' tonight, come ten pm I am heading to bed with a book and a glass of water! Done ok today, coffee and cream for breakfast, although dairy does hold me back, then salad and scotch egg for lunch, chicken baked with peppers and salad for dinner. Oh and a lot of tonic water! It's been so so SO hot here!

fufulina · 13/08/2012 21:54

I completely second the advice from eyes. I spent a good week slowly reading and rereading briffa's book 'escape the diet trap', so I understood the science behind it, and completely bought into the evil carbs.

My focus has completely shifted from wanting to be skinny, to wanting to be healthy and in control of my appetite. I genuinely feel this is a woe I can do for life, which will get me to, and help me stay, at a weight that is healthy for me.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/08/2012 22:13

I always drink lous of water, so that's not a problem. I had about 6 pints I think.

Will look into more fat. I have coconut oil, so can snack on that maybe? I've done some reading up and understand the basic theory, i'm fed up of being so reliant on binge eating, snacking and sugar in order to keep going. I'm getting very poor sleep atm and I need my energy levels to stay up despite that

Jins · 13/08/2012 22:18

You should find you sleep better and have more energy on this woe but and it's a big but sadly, carb flu will drain you at some point in the first week.

You can either gradually reduce carbs down to weightloss levels or tough it out. Carb flu doesn't last long and it is surmountable

vezzie · 13/08/2012 22:19

hello makescakes, I agree with all the advice you are getting on here. just wanted to mention that escape the diet trap is 3.99 in the kindle edition and you could have read the important stuff by tomorrow morning when you can do a shop:

www.amazon.co.uk/Escape-Diet-Trap-John-Briffa/dp/0007442432/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344892499&sr=8-1

It is a liberated woe in many ways, but it is significantly different from mainstream "healthy eating" advice so attempting to feel your way is probably not the best approach.

I was doing great till a lot of wine fell into my mouth. Now I have a group camping trip with friends coming up and I just don't think I can control the food to stay as low carb as I would like. But it's just a few days and I know what I need to do when I get back.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/08/2012 22:28

Don't have a kindle and did a big shop today... Oh well...

TeamGBIWI · 13/08/2012 22:31

What do you mean, thank goodness BIWI isn't here?! Grin

I am trying my very best to low carb, but it just isn't happening for me. Our first day here, got to the villa at about 4pm, then did a quick recce to the supermarket and bought stuff for breakfast the next day - we were going to go to a barbecue at the on-site 'rum shak', but the heavens opened and it rained torrentially all evening, so I had to sort out dinner from what was in the cupboard. Spicy rice with kidney beans. Then yesterday we went to the pool, and the poolside cafe only served wraps or sandwiches. Today, at the beachside restaurant I ordered roasted veg salad. Which included plantain, carrot and pear - in a sweet dressing.

I'm drinking rum and soda rather than much wine, but my resolve is probably not going to last out at this rate.

eat drink and be merry biwi for there is always the Christmas bootcamp...

you need to drink 3 litres roughly a day but it does depend on how much you want to lose

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 13/08/2012 22:49

sorry second comment to makecakes

emmak86 · 13/08/2012 23:34

I was wondering.. For those of you who have been doinf this for a while now.. After week 4 was done with did you find your weight loss was started to increase again? Just so i have an idea as im just starting week 5.

SharonGless · 14/08/2012 07:17

Morning all, have realized that I have carb creep going on ( well sugar) and it needs to stop now! I had a diet coke the other day and didn't even enjoy it but it has been the road to ruin, the odd sweet that the Dc have had etc etc
Well and truly knocked me out of ketosis. We go on holiday in a week and I need to kick my ass into gear.
Emma my weight loss is very sporadic - have you measured yourself as this can be a better indicator than the scales

SharonGless · 14/08/2012 07:22

Makes cakes, it depends on how hard core you want to be. If you can get Briffa book out of your local library it really is worth a read, also the Idiot Proof Diet by India Knight.
they explain the reason why we should eat low carb and the insulin response that too much carb gives. Ie carbs are starch which turns to sugar, making your body crave more sugar.
The idea of Bootcamp is to cut out processed food just eat natural products where possible and get rid of your bodies cravings for sugar. If you just want to reduce your refined carbs you will lose weight but not as quickly. There are other methods which allow small portions of carbs
All welcome here though to chat about low carbing

mummyduff · 14/08/2012 09:46
