Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

Hello everyone- I'm delurking!

I do the low carb Idiot Proof Diet here. I've done it before and low carbing is the ONLY diet that works for me. I've tried Weight watchers, Slimming world etc... To be honest I think the main reason is:

Losing weight is a psychological battle for me. It always has been. I eat when I'm stressed or miserable or anxious.

I have started psychotherapy with a counsellor to help.

But a low carb diet also helps as I don't feel deprived. I don't have that awful thing of "I can't eat that...which makes me desperately crave it (whatever the food is...which makes me eat it and then feel TERRIBLE about myself".

I've always loved meat and cheese, so being able to eat it is a huge bonus for me.

I'm 10 stone 4 and 4 foot 11, so look rather....squat....at the moment, especially with a humongous chest. So, I'm hoping to get down from a size 14 to a size 12..

One thing has always made me a little wary. I do eat veg, but not to a huge amount. How does everyone make sure they get enough fibre in their diet?

Do you take supplements?

I know the Idiot Proof Diet recommends one - psyllium husks, but does anyone else recommend anything else?

Thank you!

The Whoosh Fairy has visited, finally! After a few weeks gaining and losing the same couple of pounds, I stepped on the scales this morning to see them hit 10st 1 Grin Grin Grin. Whoosh! - off they go at last!

Think the semi-fasting definitely had something to do with it. in the end yesterday I didn't get to eat until 5pm (work busy) so that was 22 hours with only water and herbal tea. And you know what? I felt fine. I did want to eat by that point but only needed a small piece of cheese, some nuts and a protein shake to feel full again. I made sure I drank plenty of water and really felt ok - quite energised and alert. I'm definitely going to look seriously at making this part of my WOE.

Welcome oldbag Smile - glad you delurked! re fibre - green veg and water should be fine but I have used colon cleanse tablets in the past as my body got used to low carb - just herbs, no senna etc, work like a dream!

TimeForMeAndDD · 13/08/2012 10:18

Hi everyone. I'm delurking to ask a question too. When you simply are not hungry, no appetite whatsoever, do you force yourself to eat or do you just go with it. My appetite seems to have vanished, I don't get hungry at all. When I do prepare a meal I feel full after just a few mouthfuls. I can literally go all day without eating. I'm drinking plenty of water and green tea, it's just food I can't stomach. I'm not feeling ill though, I've got lots of energy and feel fantastic. Will my appetite come back when my body has used all the fat reserves? I'm about 6lb away from target but I may reassess once there and lose another 4lb. Overall I've lost just under 2 stone.

Thank you in advance for any advice Smile

hurricanewyn · 13/08/2012 10:21

Good morning - just logging in the weigh in. Just 1lb off this week. Still better off than on Grin.

I'm off for a couple of weeks where I probably won't have internet access, so hopefully I'll keep on track on my own!

Ilovemyteddy · 13/08/2012 12:34

Sybil - 51lb since January, not in the last week!!

vnmum · 13/08/2012 14:03

I did weigh in this morning after all. I thought I should see the damage and surprisingly I only gained 1.25lb. I think the fact I fasted every day till mid afternoon/ tea time helped in the damage limitation. I figured that seen as there was nothing suitable to eat and I was going to have to eat carbs I may aswell limit them to one meal a day rather than eat loads more by eating breakfast and lunch.

On one day I did manage to have a protein shake as a brunch as we found a body building supplements shop that had a protein shake bar, Cool or what!?

eyes I had issues with both my DC regards sleep. One had reflux and one colicky so I co slept with both and fed on demand. When the waking was very frequent DH used to sleep on the sofa so we both got as much sleep as we could but it wasn't great for our relationship and did cause some distance between us. Neither of mine would go to sleep on thier own so I first broke the feeding to sleep habit by just refusing to give the breast and just cuddled instead (I fed both of mine till they were just short of 2, I would have fed DS for longer but was 6 months pregnant with DD when I stopped as my milk dried up and it was painful for him to keep suckling).

Then I stopped the cuddles and just led next to them, then when they would go to sleep with that I then moved to sitting next to the bed leaning on it, then just sat next to the bed, then gradually moved further away until I was sat by the door. I did start using a set phrase at the beginning so they would associate it with going to sleep then when I got next to the door I could just use my voice to let them know I was still there. Eventually I managed to get out of the room. It was baby steps and took quite a while but evetually we got there.

Anyway back to low carbing Smile, I am going to struggle to get to the gym for the next 4 weeks due to DH being back at work and the DC being at home. I planned on doing the shred every day but so far today I haven't managed it. It was a late night last night though watching the closing ceremony so I may try tomorrow if I can drag myself out of bed early Smile

MrsOnYourMarksGetSetPoirot · 13/08/2012 14:18

Hello everyone from sunny France! I have manage to be surprisingly good so far but still just under two weeks to go!!! I have had croissants yesterday for breakfast but other than that I've been bootcamp perfect!!

Tiptoe - not sure about periods tbh. If worried perhaps worth mentioning to GP or seeing what happens next cycle?

Well done on the massive loss teddy!

Sorry for those of you with lack of sleep - hope things improve soon. I wish I had the magic answer for you, but sadly think there isn't one.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 13/08/2012 14:41

TimeForMeAndDD - I think if you're not hungry, then don't force yourself to eat. It's a fine line between learning to trust your appetite and then suddenly becoming starving at odd times and not having anything low-carb to hand, though.

Back to 10 stone 4.25, grr! Should not have had those scones on Saturday. Oh well, that's still a loss of 0.5lb. Also, I tried on size 10 jeans in New Look yesterday and I am nearly there! Need to be a bit thinner around the waist and a lot toned-er, but I'm getting there. Will restart the Shred. Size 10 in Topshop is 34/28/37 - my bust is nowhere near that because I'm bf, but I'm now 38/29/38, so my waist and bum are nearly there. Shame my post-baby belly is so wobbly, though.

MegTheCat · 13/08/2012 15:35

Hello everyone. I have added today's weight to the chart - another 2 lb lost this week. Also finding I am not hungry and not craving sweet things so really happy with that. We were on hols most of last week but fortunately managed to avoid tempting things like ice cream.
Badvoc I was reading back through the thread and saw you had been able to stop gastric reflux medication. Is that due to losing weight or the way of eating or both? - I have been wondering if I could stop mine but didn't know if maybe I should wait until I have lost a significant amount of weight.

fufulina · 13/08/2012 15:55

Hello all,

Checking in, and have resolutely stuck at 78.2kg for seemingly ages. Have been warned though, and I will have been doing this woe for 4 weeks on Friday, so expected to sts for a couple of weeks. I rationalise it by thinking that it's my body catching up!

Have lost loads of inches though, and feel so much better. Brighter, calmer, more in control.

B two eggs mashed with Boursin
L lettuce, avocado, Gorgonzola, black forest ham
D turkey escalopes buttered cabbage and leeks.
S dark chocolate

Eyes, the lack of sleep is a disaster. It will pass, one day, she will sleep. No help when you're at the end of your rope, though, I know.

TimeForMeAndDD · 13/08/2012 16:17

Thank you TITD. There is no worry about having nothing low carb to hand, everything in my fridge/cupboard is low carb. Smile

emmak86 · 13/08/2012 17:10

Hi all

I havent added todays weight to spreadsheet yet but i will do once tue kiddies have gone to bed!

Thegoddessblossom · 13/08/2012 17:37

sybilfaulty · 13/08/2012 17:49

Disaster here! Went to a friends for lunch and she had made pizza. Oh no! Tried to eat as little as possible but still rubbish for the carbs.

Must be very strict now.

OK, will read everyone else's posts. Hope you are well.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/08/2012 18:47

Ok. I was going to read this whole thread, but I have limited time, so, if you don't mins, will just jump in with both feet.

I'm 29, 5'4" and weigh 12.5 stone. I have a 7 mo old baby who has been ebf, but is now eating 3 meals and 2 snacks a day, so I thought I'd better find a new woe before I end up the same weight as 7 months and one week ago!

Started low carb today. Bit of a rocky start because I needed to do the shop, so missed lunch, but here was my first day's attempt:
brek - 3 egg omelette with feta
mid morning - full fat milk with cocoa and agave nectar to make chocolate milk
Mid afternoon - rice cake with peanut butter
Dinner - 3 bean beef chilli with cheddar and sour cream

How is that for a start? I'm kind of guessing my way through this...

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/08/2012 18:50

Oh yes, and since I have basically ben running on sugar since Baby Cakes was born I am so proud of myself for not giving in and buying biscuits and pastry in the supermarket but I am so tired and headachey.

fufulina · 13/08/2012 18:59

Someone with far more knowledge will come along soon, but if you do a search and find a bootcamp thread, the first post by BIWI has the rules, which are explicit, and very easy to follow.

Your day is going in the right direction, but if you're doing low carb bootcamp (to kill the sugar cravings), you should consider binning the rice cake, peanut butter, and beans in the chilli. Also, dairy can cause people problems and depending on what kind of dairy, can have lots of carbs.

Jins · 13/08/2012 18:59

Makescakes the best thing about low carbing is that you never have to eat a rice cake ever again.

If I'm honest it's not a brilliant menu you've posted. I really recommend reading the list of foods for bootcamp and a bit of the theory about how low carbing works before jumping in

Good to have another newbie though Grin

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 13/08/2012 19:01

I actually quite like rice cakes :)

Will see if I can find that thread, thanks. Am surprised by thr beans. I thought pulses were protein...

Thegoddessblossom · 13/08/2012 19:06

I knew you were there somewhere jins.....Grin

WillieWaggledagger · 13/08/2012 19:10

Hello from sunny co. Clare! Hope everyone is ok, have read some of the thread and sorry that some are going through tough times.

We are camping and have been v good with low carb for the most part but have had some berries and alcohol - also not been very good about sweeteners this last week.

Welcome makescakes! Well done so far, sorry that you're feeling a bit rotten but it does pass I promise. Your menu looks good, but I'd be wary of the agave nectar as I think that is made of sugars? Also rice cakes should be avoided, as should beans as they are both too high carb. Take care with milk too - anything more than a dash is quite carby, but you are right to go with the full fat. Have you seen biwi's boot camp rules? They give an idea of what to go for and what to avoid. I'm on my phone so it's tricky to link to previous threads which list the rules, just bear with me...

WillieWaggledagger · 13/08/2012 19:11

Sorry cross-posted with lots of others!

fufulina · 13/08/2012 19:20

Also, what is the general consensus on the 5:2 intermittent fasting approach? I still feel like I'm finding my feet with this woe, and don't want to rock the boat by adding in more rules, calorie counting, etc., but interested to see what others think?

Jins · 13/08/2012 19:23

Beans are reasonably high in protein for a plant source but too high in carbohydrate for the weight loss stages.

Agave nectar has exactly the same amount of carbohydrate as sugar iirc. There's some claim that it's slower impact but thats not relevant to this way of eating. Milk is quite carby but the cocoa is ok Grin

Jins · 13/08/2012 19:53

Fufulina I've had to have a search to find out about the 5:2 thing. I can see how it may help some people but it's not for me.

I like the freedom of not having to worry about anything as long as I'm eating the right type of foods
