Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

Evenings after tea are the worse time for me. I would always before have had some be goodforyourself low fat biscuits or SOMETHING. DH is here scoffing wine gums.

I am not hungry, far from it, have had a big piece of pork belly with salad and mayo for tea. Snacks today have been a baby bel and 2 gin and tonics. have just looked in fridge and had two spoons of double cream to scratch the itch. Have a decaf coffee too, that should do the trick.

jan2011 · 05/08/2012 08:01

goddess i also snack in the evenings! i have to have SOMETHING! i also have decaf coffee :) and a babybel :)

can anyone give me some advice about where i am at? ive been pleased with the results of going low carb, ive been more stable emotionally, less weight fluctuations and more stable eating. which was my goal. i have toned up a bit, and will keep going with exercise..
but i am carb creeping! i don't want to be doing strict low carb forever - i don't want to have to avoid milk forever and just be so strict about how much yoghurt etc i am eating, and the ingredients in things, and the vegetables i am eating, but would still like to generally be low carbing and eating as clean as possible. i am pleased that i have started eating chicken and turkey after being so long without. (i still have to tell my family but don't want them to over react and present me with loads of roast dinners ha!)

i have started having more milks with coffee and tea, and noticed that ive been having more berries during the day and less strict with things. what is the best way to do this? am i ok to do this slowly, do i need to cut down on the fat a little since i am upping carbs? and, i am assuming this is an ok way to eat for long term. it probably won't be ketosis, but then i don't think ketosis is really realistic for my life long term, as i just want to be as normal as possible, fit into the rest of society as much as i can, while still being as healthy as possible but staying low carb enough not to trigger weight gain or too many cravings.

does any of this make sense and sorry it was so long

mummyduff · 05/08/2012 10:23

Morning all,

BIWI & Goddess I am so Envy both holidays look amazing..

I was at the gym by 8am this morning and came home to a cheese omelette, feel so much better for working outGrin.

Jan I know what you mean, I have also been thinking about maintenance once I have got to my goal(still 10lbs off) I am hoping that if I am good in the week, that if I indulge a little some weekends it will be ok! I dont think I will ever have pasta or bread again, as truly believe I was a little intolerant....

x

emmak86 · 05/08/2012 10:35

Morning Smile

goddess and jan21 i also used to snack in the evenings! Normally a biscuit or something. Its especially hard when my fiancee whos very slim suts there scoffing his face! But i find trying to keep busy or downing some water helps!

B- will be eggs and bacon and mushroom! (shant be missing out today! )

TeamGBIWI · 05/08/2012 10:42

jan - the best way to do it would be to increase your carbs gradually and see what happens. You'll know when it's too much, because you will start to put weight back on. Obviously you have to decide if this is OK.

Focus on 'better' carbs - vegetables and lower carb fruits, possibly also introduce things like beans. But still avoid the easily digestible carbs - pasta, rice, bread, sugar, etc.

Don't lower the fat - the fat is what keeps you feeling full.

Have you got any of the books? Try reading Atkins and/or The Idiot Proof Diet to see how they talk about the maintenance phase.

Morning all - am off out, but it's chucking down so I'm procrastinating here in the hope that it may ease off a bit.

Here's my plan for today:
B Scrambled eggs & bacon
L Leftover emmental lasagne
D Flaxseed pizza

Lunch & dinner will be with salad and not the garlic bread & chips I used to eat them with Blush.

hurricanewyn · 05/08/2012 12:03

TooImmature - let me know how your lasagne turns out!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 05/08/2012 12:08

Jan, Briffa says to think 80/20 - ie, eat paleo 80% of the time and it should cover the other 20% (ie, meals out, visiting other people etc). And in paleo, you can eat unlimited yoghurt and berries, plus moderate amounts of other fruit (but only tiny amounts of bananas, mango, pineapple), sweet potatoes, squash, pumpkin, carrots, swede and parsnips.

Yy to the evening snacking habit! I tend to have decaff tea, but I'm trying to keep to only 2 cups of tea a day because I like lots of milk. Decaff coffee is on my shopping list, because I can drink cream in coffee. I also tend to eat things like berries and cream if I feel really peckish.

Another half pound down this morning! Smile 10 stone 5.25. Hoping for the last 0.25 to be gone by tomorrow.

B was scrambled eggs with double cream and smoked mackerel, plus a cup of tea.

emmak86 · 05/08/2012 13:55

Aaaaahhh!
The boys are eating my favourite biscuits: oreos!

Envy
Badvoc · 05/08/2012 14:09

I really like briffa.
I can do 80% :)
I have had berries and cream today as I was really craving something sweet.
I watched the kids munch down on soup and garlic bread and.....I didn't want any!!
Still cannot believe I haven't had any wheat based food for 2 weeks!!
An am no,longer taking my gastric reflux meds! Which I have been on for 4 years.
Prior to this woe a typical day would be:
Breakfast: croissant/ pain au chocolate x 2 and coffee with skim milk.
Lunch: sandwich/roll/cake/chips
Dinner: potato/rice/pasta with garlic bread/naan bread/rolls
Snacks: biscuits/cake/chocolate/flapjacks
You get the idea!
I honestly don't miss the wheat.
Or pasta, or rice.
I do miss potatoes and I will have them very occasionally.
yes I want to lose weight, but I also want to feel better and have more energy.
I have never eaten so much!!
Before I would have days if hardly eating anything and them carb binges.
No more.

sybilfaulty · 05/08/2012 14:18

Well done Badvoc! Glad it's going well.

I love Oreos too and could cheerily trough a packet in the old days but now I'd rather be slimmer than eat biscuits. I know what they taste like (gorgeous!) so don't really need to eat them now. I have been doing this for 8 weeks now, and aside from my weekend away when I did have a couple of carby things, haven't cheated or really felt like it. Amazing!

Am still full from my breakfast so about to take kids out for a walk then perhaps will have something to eat when I get back.

teaandthorazine · 05/08/2012 15:20

Badvoc - your diet was just like mine. It's amazing how much processed crap/wheat/sugar we eat without even thinking about it.

Am having a very lazy day today, in front of the tv, watching Murray go for gold, MNing... lovely! Breakfast was protein shake and nuts, lunch was smoked salmon and wedges of camembert - it's a bit of a picky day but all low-carb, promise Grin

Badvoc · 05/08/2012 15:23

Am off to mils later for dinner so will have a big plate of meat and veg.
Yum.
I am really annoyed with myself actually tea...I am so careful with the dcs diet. And yet I filled myself with all that crap...:(

vnmum · 05/08/2012 15:52

I am just watching "the hairy dieters", on iPlayer, the program I mentioned my DM had seen with the leek sheet lasagne. Well, SIGH, it is all low cal, Low fat. Even the experts from the NHS they see are telling them to cut calories. After doing a food diary, the dietician points out, in a shocked tone, that they are eating 40 to 45% fat per day, how terrible (sarcastic). They then visit someone who has lost 8stone and sample some food: whole roast pepper stuffed with pork with fat removed, dry fried with rice, served with broccoli (dry, no butter or salt) and 1/3 plate of boiled spuds. The hairy bikers were then complaining about having to give up butter! Double sigh!
I thought this might have given us some good recipes but unfortunately it is all about cutting as much fat as possible while people they are doing it with are complaining about being hungry all the time.
Yet another program advocating low cal and vindicating fat with no mention of carbs. Big sigh.
It actually looks and sounds like deprivation to me, so glad I gave up that way of eating for low carb!
If you like shouting at the tv, it might be worth a watch, Grin

mummyduff · 05/08/2012 15:57

Tea just like you I have not moved since the gym earlier, sailing and now tennis Grin

Badvoc · 05/08/2012 16:00

Oh I watched that too til they started on the low cal thing....how depressing!
That pork looked vile didn't it?

vnmum · 05/08/2012 16:02

Oh, I am still craving crap today for some reason but I am not giving in, it is not worth it. I'm just drinking water and trying to keep busy. I wonder if it is a lack of fat because since I have cut out dairy I have realised I used cheese and cream as quite a lot of my fat.

I also gave my DC the almond milk today without telling them it wasn't normal milk and they drank it with no question. DS did ask if it wad different but said he liked it so at least if I decide to cut the dairy down for them, I know they can have that milk to get their calcium. I have got the "eat like a dinosaur" book so we are going all out to change the DC to paleo using recipes from that book. They will still be higher carb than us as I will give them baked treats etc but using gluten free flours like coconut. Obviously they won't be having those treats everyday but it will help to get them off grains which is my main priority

vnmum · 05/08/2012 16:05

Yes badvoc it did. When they said you had to cut all the fat off and throw it away and then the bikers said what a waste. I thought, yes it is a waste, a waste of good fat and flavour! Unfortunately while these type of programs still show low cal low fat and that people lose weight on it, we will still be told our woe is unhealthy, sigh

Badvoc · 05/08/2012 16:06

Vnmum I use GF oats and flour to make treats for my dc.
No difference.
Also GF pasta.
I get the doves farm stuff...very good.
Ds1 will not have any liquid except water and milk and I have tried milk substitutes and he won't have it!
So he will continue to have milk.
Ds2 doesn't.
But does drink lots of apple juice....

emmak86 · 05/08/2012 16:30

On the subject of our WOE.. Yesterday i got questioned quite alot about it.. I got the whole, ur trying to lose weight.. Yet your eating fat and fried food lecture! Its quite frustrating really it comes under such scrutiny yet it does work!!

mummyduff · 05/08/2012 16:40

Emma I have just started smiling and saying 'yes but hey look its working for me' then I change the subjectSmile

But it does bug that people feel they have the right to comment, its not like we comment on the food they eat is it?? x x

Ooh Murray won wohooTorch

vnmum · 05/08/2012 16:43

I want to conpletely eliminate all grains from their diet badvoc as I personally don't beleive they are healthy for us. Thanks for the suggestions though.

The dairy issue is due to the fact that DS had a milk allergy when he was a baby and although he grew out of it it still makes me wonder if there is something to it IYSWIM

emmak86 · 05/08/2012 16:50

Exactly mummyduff im with you there!!! Grin

jan2011 · 05/08/2012 17:55

thanks for the replies about adding the carbs in - its going well so far - i think

sybilfaulty · 05/08/2012 18:01

Oh Jan, I am so sorry to read this. Hope you are as OK as you can be in the circumstances. Please allow us to help to support you going forward. Thinking of you.
