Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

sybilfaulty · 30/07/2012 09:24

Thanks for the lovely new thread BIWI.

Happy eating y'all

JintoTheFinal · 30/07/2012 09:50

I've got a week before I go away so I hope I can shed another quick pound. It'll give me some leeway

WillieWaggledagger · 30/07/2012 10:00

thanks for new thread

off on holiday on saturday, which will be self-catered so easier to keep up this woe, though will allow myself some mindful treats i'm sure. ideally i'd like to come back the same weight as i left at least, and if I can drop another lb this week that would be fab!

SharonGless · 30/07/2012 10:23

Hi everyone here you are!

Well I am way off target after the weekend away but am straight back on the wagon with mushroom
Omelette for breakfast and tons of water so far today (remembering electrolytes )

Thegoddessblossom- well done on reaching your target

Thegoddessblossom · 30/07/2012 10:41

thanks all! very pleased. Grin

marking place.

Greek yoghurt for breakfast. BIWI when do you go away?

TeamGBIWI · 30/07/2012 11:27

We go on Saturday 11 August - not that I'm counting the days!

Hello all!

Just had a lunch of hardboiled eggs mashed with a bit of mayo (have run out of Boursin!), cucumber, lettuce and a couple of slices of prosciutto. Dinner will be roast chicken with steamed, buttered cabbage and roasted butternut squash/courgette.

Re-read Briffa this morning; it just makes so much sense. He does like his nuts though, doesn't he? Grin Noticed yesterday that Sainbury's have roasted almonds on special offer - got some salted and some woodsmoked versions which are both the lowest carb in the range. Think they're called Blue Diamond - they look American - and they taste LOVELY. Just don't go over the top, right BIWI? Wink

Ilovemyteddy · 30/07/2012 12:56

Found you!

Didn't catch up with the last thread but have put my weight on the spreadsheet for last week (down another 1.2lb - go me!) and saw that they spreadhseet had come to an end. Are we going into recess for the rest of the summer?

I'm 48lb down now -want to lose another 8lb before my hol at the end of August. Then I will be going for another 21lb by the end of the year. It's a tough ask, but I have been cheating a bit!

What I love best about this WOE is the bags of energy that I have. I feel so positive, and that's an unusual feeling for me Grin

TeamGBIWI · 30/07/2012 13:04

Ilovemyteddy - yes, Bootcamp ended with the final weigh-in today. But chat/support continues.

The next one will be a pre-Christmas one, starting around the end of September/beginning of October.

48lb loss is brilliant!

So glad you're doing an ongoing support thread TEAMGBIWI - I'm only on week 6 and wouldn't even be on this journey without having lurked on your original threads. I have now lost 10lb in total and am sooo chuffed. Particulary amazing given the fact that I haven't gone a single weekend without at least one bottle of wine passing my lips. Did I say that out loud?

Thegoddessblossom · 30/07/2012 13:14

Lunch: 1 boiled egg, minted salad leaves, tuna, roasted courgette, chunk of cheese, 2 slices of ham, big dollop of mayo. Was a bit worried that my stomach would cramp up again, but so far so good.

tiptoemum · 30/07/2012 13:36

Hello to you all. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and have read the John Briffa book in the meantime. I started low carbing pretty much following your boot camp rules 11 days ago and have lost 7ibs which I am so chuffed about. I still have a long way to go. My question is I am really starting to lose feelings of hunger between meals which is fab but if I am not hungry at a meal time should I skip a meal or reduce it's size? I think the rule is that if you don't eat you can't lose weight but how can I eat if I am not hungry!
I never thought I would be 'dieting' or rather a new WOE and be worried about not being hungry!

Thegoddessblossom · 30/07/2012 13:47

Hi Tiptoe - welcome. I think the general premise is eat when you are hungry and don't worry if you are not. I think the worries about your body going tinto "starvation mode" don't apply on this WoE....

BIWI/other experts? Whadyafink?

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 30/07/2012 14:06

I think Briffa advocates only eating when you're hungry. It's all to do with learning to use your appetite to regulate your eating. Briffa actually advises intermittent fasting to get over a stall, so he can't be too worried about skipping meals!

TeamGBIWI · 30/07/2012 14:16

Yes - I think you're right. I may modify the rules of Bootcamp, so that it's not so insistent on eating three meals a day.

One of the great joys of this WOE is that you don't experience hunger in the same way as you do if you're trying to cut down on calories.

I know that in the mornings when I have an early gym session, and I really don't feel like cooking, I might have a hard-boiled egg that I prepared the night before. I can go through the whole morning - including a pretty brutal hour with the personal trainer - on eating just that one egg.

But - it's dangerous to allow yourself to get hungry again, which is a risk you're taking if you drop a meal. Suddenly you find yourself needing to eat, and the risk is that you eat what's to hand, which will usually be something carby!

So I would say to experiment with it and see how you go - perhaps start by reducing your portion sizes, and then see what happens.

Oh, and welcome and very well done, tiptoemum!

tiptoemum · 30/07/2012 14:46

Thanks for the advice, this really is an amazing woe. Everything you've ever been taught about nutrition is completely turnrd on its head. It took me ages to shop last week, not because it is difficult but because it just so goes against the grain. But it appears to be working and I love it!

vnmum · 30/07/2012 15:06

well I have lost 2.75 lbs this week taking me to 9st 11 3/4lb (yes the 3/4lb makes all the difference Smile).

With regard to loss of appetite/IF, I always work out in the gym fasted. I just don't eat when I wake up and usually go to the gym after the school run. Depending on how much cardio I've done I'm also not hungry straight after but I always make sure I have some protein and fat within 1 hour of finishing otherwise I would start to get too hungry and crave carbs after the exercise. I have been doing this for a few months now and it is working fine. I do sometimes use caffeine as an extra energy blast but that can also help to burn more fat during the workout.

Gym this morning for a 2hour session then mushroom with pesto, bacon and 2 fried eggs around 2ish. Tea will be salmon and salad.

went for a 5k trail run yesterday and knocked 2 mins off my time. I am so pleased with my increase in fitness and I warrant some of that to this woe because it is so much healthier and gives you much more energy. This is definately how I will be eating for life.

topsi · 30/07/2012 15:38

is butternut squash ok then?

JintoTheFinal · 30/07/2012 15:42

Butternut squash has always been a grey area for me. Certain resources say it's low carb but most seem to have it at 8-9g per 100g which is too high for me. It does taste unfeasibly sweet so I avoid it

mummyduff · 30/07/2012 16:36

VNmum you are putting me to shame, I have not been to the gym in over a weekBlush

Just back from a little retail therapySmile

Breakfast - boiled egg
Lunch - mexican chicken from m&s its great
Dinner - roast pork, mashed sweed and lots of green veg

teaandthorazine · 30/07/2012 17:09

Butternut squash is okay now and again, I reckon. I wouldn't eat it everyday but it beats potato/sweet potato if I'm doing a roast.

I'm very much bootcamp lite anyway Wink

It would be better to be yoghurt with berries on top! But either way, you need to know how much carbohydrate you're eating with a breakfast like this as, potentially, you could be eating an awful lot.
