Well, week 15 of Bootcamp has just ended. But the support and banter will continue! I, for one, am carrying on for the next couple of weeks until my holiday, in the hope that I can drop another pound or so before I go.

There have been some brilliant losses in the last two weeks, so I'm hoping that you'll all be sticking with it too!

Sorry about your tooth goddess.

We are a house of poo tonight. Poor ds has had 6 poos, only 1 of which was in the loo. I am feeling vaguely queasy, though don't know if that is all in the mind. Had Greek salad for breakfast and mushrooms in butter for lunch, with a pork scratching for snack. Not sure if I can face dinner.

Would love a spreadsheet although I havent weighed yet this week. Thanks Fiddle for sorting.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 31/07/2012 20:29

Ouch, GoddessBlossom! Hope the gin is helping.

I seem to have turned a corner. Today I went out for lunch with Mum, who is also following this WOE. We had walked up hill and down dale in blazing sunshine for an hour and a half first, and I carried DD in the sling (she weighs about a stone). We both ordered steak, which came with chips and onion rings, plus delicious grilled tomato, rocket and peppercorn sauce. I had cheating on my mind, so I tried a bit of onion ring and then a chip. And.... I didn't like them! The onion ring didn't taste right and the chip tasted of sunflower oil (boak) and sort of floury and dry. This was at a really nice gastropub and I know the fault wasn't in the food. The steak, peppercorn sauce and grilled tomato were ambrosial. I was gobsmacked - tried another chip and it was the same. I left all the others and the onion rings. So there you have it. After 8 weeks on this WOE I no longer like chips. Sadly, can't say the same for sweet things, but you can't have everything.

Dinner was stovies made with leftover roast beef, mashed neeps and gravy, with buttered cabbage.

Has anyone noticed that in books from the olden days, like Anne of Green Gables, the characters drink tea with cream?

Thegoddessblossom · 31/07/2012 21:10

Tea was prawns with courgettes, broccolli, leeks with a red Thai curry paste. DH cooked it and it was delish, but he moaned a lot that there was no point cooking rice for one etc which made it not the way he wanted. He has started to bemoan the fact that he can't experiment with all the delicious pasta dishes he used to cook us since I started this woe....

On the flip side he bathed the boys without being asked, he unpacked, washed and repacked their lunch boxes without being asked (never happened before - he had to ask me what to put in them, cue speech about "blimey they don't know they're born, when I was a lad we were lucky to get a sandwich and an apple" etc) and has generally been a bit of a superstar tonight... What do you think is going on? Hmm

SharonGless · 31/07/2012 22:45

Bloss- he is treating you as you deserve! Hope mouth is not too sore- rinse with salt water to aid the healing process for the mouth. I had one out a few months ago- bleurgh. Good for weight
Loss though ;)

Turtle - well done on resisting temptation and not having a blow out. For those that have Idiot proof diet it's worth reading again especially of you have tendency towards emotional eating

AppleyEverAfter · 31/07/2012 22:46

Hi, newbie to the whole low-carb thing here! I just posted a few questions on a low-carb forum but it's pretty quiet, so I thought I would try here. And lo and behold, there's a fantastic array of threads with loads of useful info!

Just read the Bootcamp rules, which I will follow for 2 weeks. Then my trainer said I can start introducing treat days once a week, where I can eat ANYTHING! Does anyone else do this? Do you still lose weight? Here were my questions, BTW:

  1. Does anyone have any decent recipes for slow-cooker meals?
2. Is soft cheese (particularly Phili and brie), OK to eat? 3. With the veg thing, are courgettes, beansprouts, ginger OK? 4. What the flaming heck can I use for sauces on stir frys?

I'm trying to lose about 20lbs, post-baby weight which has lingered for, ahem, 10 months.

TeamGBIWI · 31/07/2012 22:55

Welcome!

I'm not sure about your trainer's advice, to be honest. Why does he advocate that? We're trying to keep the carbs low all the time, so that you keep your blood sugar levels stable all the time. I don't see the point of having a day where you then undo all your good work!

See the list of allowed veg that ha been posted for guidance - but yes, courgettes, bean sprouts and ginger are all fine.

Re sauces - I only use a little soy sauce, occasionally a bit of lime juice

Hi everyone. Glad to hear all your successes!
Had my osteopath appointment yesterday and my shoulder is feeling much better, my elbow is still quite sore and I'm going back Saturday and that should be me sorted (should hope so for £70 Grin)
Signed up for the gym on Monday and have my induction on Friday so hopefully that will help get the scales moving a bit faster.
Like you Hazchem I'm a weightwatcher, feel a bit of a fraud each week when people tell me how well I've done. I have told them that I'm eating much less carbs - but not the amount of fat Grin I do like the motivation of the weekly weigh in though and there are some lovely people there that I've got to know over the last few months.

fufulina · 01/08/2012 07:29

Morning all,

Good day yesterday, and the scales moved. Now 79.6kg. Woohoo. In the seventies. Sodding delighted. But, clearly, not so delighted that I will stop. That is the interesting thing about this WOE, I have completely bought into it and cannot believe how much crap I was eating before. I love that the fridge is full of veggies that get eaten. I also feel hugely different mentally. Calmer, steadier and like I can cope. Could be because I believe the this time I can get to a healthy weight, properly, or could be because my blood sugar isn't jumping around all over the place. So yesterday I counted carbs and the following came in at 18g

B cold chicken, a couple of little gem leaves and half a goats cheese (I can't stop cheese entirely!)
L salad with cold chicken avocado little gem olives and mayo
D two lamb cutlets buttered savoy cabbage and leeks
Snacks two pieces of Lindt 90% dark chocolate
But, I didn't have any fruit!!

And, I had a headache last night. Am assuming all par for the course.

Thanks again everyone for your help and these threads!

hazchem · 01/08/2012 08:14

I lost 3 pounds!

clare8 that is good to hear. I love my leader and think it's a nice group. also I like going out of the house by myself ever week.

I've been having semolina made with water topped with greek yogurt for breakfast which is a tasty alternative to wheat cereals but realise it's quite high in carbs. Any lower carb hot cereals out there?

Badvoc · 01/08/2012 08:28

Has you would be better off having bacon and eggs!
Well,done on the loss.

Thegoddessblossom · 01/08/2012 08:32

FuFu - headache a good sign - drink lots of water and take paracetamol it will fade eventually - carb withdrawal.

Haz - I don't think so no - if there was I would deffo be eating eat for B, I really miss porridge.

3 egg omelette with ham for B, and going swimming later.

Badvoc · 01/08/2012 08:32

Too- I feel the same about the choc I had yesterday....it was greasy and herid and I didn't enjoy it at all.
Very shocked.
AF is here so feeling like I want carbs ans sugar all the time but am not going to!
Think,I have least an inch n my bust and half an inch from my hips! NotHing from my waist though :(

TeamGBIWI · 01/08/2012 08:32

Nope! Cereal is grain-based so high in carbs. Sorry. As Badvoc says, bacon and eggs a much better choice.

OP posts:
sybilfaulty · 01/08/2012 08:35

2 oeufs, un au beurre and l'autre au Boursin. Yummers.

Feel better today. 18g carbs fantastic. I'm out tonight so I'll report back later.

Happy eating

jan2011 · 01/08/2012 08:36

well done hazchem! ive never had semolina before.

this just goes to show how you really need to know what you are looking for on this WOE - dh wanted to get some food in for me so bless his heart he went to m&s and got me some stuff. he came back with: single cream (4g of carbs) 3 different types of cheeses including cranberry, blueberry etc (all at least 14 g of carbs) cottage cheese with pineapple!, LIGHT greek yoghurt! need i go on? he was trying to be helpful and couldn't understand why it wasn't right - lol i said ring me the next time. but i guess i am more on maintenance at the minute so i will eat what he has got me and enjoy it - it is much better having these kind of treats than going back to carby stuff. but it shows how easy carbs add up when you are getting the right stuff.

on a positive note i have started eating meat after being veggie (well fish) for 10 years. wow can't even believe its been that long. have had chicken and turkey this week, before its tasted rubbery but i really enjoyed it this week.

Esker · 01/08/2012 08:43

Reporting live from the Olympic rowing here, low carb picnic going extremely well so far, the breadcrumb free scotch eggs got hoovered down. The boys are now munching on crisps and I've got almonds & macadamia nuts. Thanks for smoked salmon recommendations by the way, I ended up making 'sandwiches' using chicory leaves as bread Grin

Badvoc · 01/08/2012 08:43

I was not veggie jan but ate very little meat prior to this woe.
I am loving eating ham, beef, chicken.
Planning lamb chops tonight!
Yum yum
Can I have sweet potato btw?

fufulina · 01/08/2012 08:57

Oh Esker, have a fab time! My Dh has just left to go. He has no ticket, but is desperate. His best friend from primary school is the cox in the men's eight final. Your picnic sounds delicious.

TeamGBIWI · 01/08/2012 09:02

Badvoc - ask yourself why it's called 'sweet' potato ...

(no, by the way Grin)

OP posts:
TeamGBIWI · 01/08/2012 09:04

Carblife carb counter says that sweet potato is 20.5g carbs per 100g

OP posts:
Esker · 01/08/2012 09:07

Hasten to add that by 'boys' I mean adult men- I'm not feeding kids crisps pre 9am. Hope your DH gets in Fufu!

TeamGBIWI · 01/08/2012 09:10

I thought that was the whole point of a packed lunch - that it gets scoffed before 11!

OP posts:
Badvoc · 01/08/2012 09:36

Oh! Is that morethan normal potato?

Badvoc · 01/08/2012 09:37

Just had chopped up boiled egg with butter and pepper and 3 slices of thick carved ham for breakfast.
Yum.

TeamGBIWI · 01/08/2012 10:14

Looks like it - see these counts (grams of carbs per 100g) from the Carblife carb counter (NB none of these is for boiled potato, so it's hard to make an exact comparison):

Potato croquettes
21.6
Potato, Frying Chips Frozen
30.3
Potato, new
17.8
Potato, old
17
Potato, Raw
15.7
Potato, roast
25.9
Potatoes, New Tinned
13.8
