So my 30 day shred dvd has arrived and I'm a little bit scared!

Did you do the level 1 once a day or more? When did you know to move to the next level? And how much do you do to maintain it? Is it as terrifying as it sounds?

Im loving the energy and as I shred at about 6:30 after feeding ds2 and long before the others wake up i feel very virtuous, my bonus is I sleep like a log come bed time. I close my eyes at 10:30 and completely crash. Managed a couple more press ups this morning but noticed my tummy hanging horribly when I was doing them so will try harder tommorow

Swatchdog · 03/07/2012 21:17

We've just done day 4 and it is getting easier. I managed all of the arm work in the compound exercises today for the first time, which is nice. The press ups are still hideous, but marginally less so.

I also noticed that Natalie cheats during the bicep curls/lunges. When JM goes over to talk to Anita she stops lunging and just does the bicep curls. V naughty of her!

I'm a bit put out today, as after 3 days of shredding, ten days of very good eating and 9 days of no booze I've gained half a pound. Boo bloody hiss.

mummybare · 03/07/2012 22:00

Just remember, Swatchdog , muscle weighs more than fat, so no doubt you just have a bit more of the former and much less of the latter. :)

cluelessnchaos · 04/07/2012 09:42

Swatchdog I'm in the same boat, I've been running nearly every day for 3 weeks before I started shredding a week ago. I am not particularly watching what I eat but I went from 10 stone 6 to 10 stone 10, today I'm 10 stone 7. I'm not going to get too bothered by it because I can see my arms firming, my muffin top diminishing and feel a lot stronger. I managed nearly all the press ups and did all the bike ab thingys. Shattered today though. Dh works offshore so I go to bed early when he's not here and late when he is. All my late nights are catching up with me.

Swatchdog · 04/07/2012 12:15

Thanks for the support! I've decided that the scales are bastards and to use my trusty tape measure instead. Have lost an inch from my waist and thigh, and half an inch from my hips. I'll take that as a win.

I'll do day 5 of level one this afternoon, so halfway through the first bit. Am getting into it being part of my routine , which is nice, but fear I may struggle today as I just did a body pump class (in leggings that went see through with no drawers on underneath, oops). Let's see how I get on. V proud of DH who got up and shredded before running to work.

YouGoonie · 04/07/2012 18:35

So did day 4 today after not getting a chance to shred yesterday and I think having a day off set me back 2 days. So might do another one tonight to make up for it.

I hurt today! I don't think Jillian's cool down is quite enough for me - yesterday was the first time I've shredded without some yoga/Pilates stretches afterwards. Unfortunately I think I need them. Did day 4 this evening followed by 10 minutes of Pilates. If my knees aren't feeling a bit better tomorrow, I may have to 'phone it in' - whatever the fuck that means - and resume business as usual on Friday.

mummybare · 05/07/2012 04:59

What am I talking about? That was day 5! Mustn't do myself out of a day!

div22c · 05/07/2012 11:30

A little late but can I join in pleease! I did level 1, day 2 today. Achy all over :( I have started a couple of times before, but always gave up before even moving to level 2. Hoping I can complete it this time with all of you!

Swatchdog · 06/07/2012 11:22

Hi div how are you finding it?

I did day 7 of level 1 today and managed to do the first lot of press ups on my toes. Hurrah! I expect I'll pay for that tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is still keeping it up!

div22c · 07/07/2012 00:24

Hey swatchdog...struggling and really sore in places! Have taken on board some previous suggestions to do the warm up twice, and do additional stretching. Hope that will help. Have a very busy weekend planned, not sure if I will be able to do any shredding :( Does that mean I have to start all over again on Monday?

ThatVikRinA22 · 07/07/2012 00:28

i have been doing it for around 2 weeks. before that i was running 25 mins 3 x a week and going to the gym and have been doing that for the last 3 years.

so far, doing the shred, i have lost 6 lbs. i moved up to level 3 fairly fast and find level 3 easier than level 2.....

i am a fan. ive not lost any weight doing the running or gyming alone.

Swatchdog · 09/07/2012 12:54

Hurrah! Level 1 is over! I even followed Natalie the whole way through today - including all the press ups! Level 2 starts tomorrow.

I had a bad weekend diet wise, so am a bit bloated today and feel like a heifer, but can see a difference thanks to JM. I'm getting my abs back, I have the cut either side, and now the one down the middle is appearing again. So I have a 2-pack, and am a third of the way there! It's frustrating though, re the weight, I eat very well and exercise a lot and still need to probably take 2 inches off my hips and one off my waist to fit into my clothes properly. I've been going three weeks on the diet and am losing so very slowly, I guess though as I'm not aiming to lose much (half a stone, max) it's not going to be as quick and obvious as it was when I lost three stone!

I hope everyone else is struggling on manfully and getting the results they are hoping for.

mummybare · 10/07/2012 22:42

I have not shredded since I last posted as I think it has ruined my knee(s) (the right is worse than the left). I've been trying to rest up, but that's not that easy with a 9-week-old baby!

I am gutted, as it was a really energising workout, but I would say to others: wear supportive footwear, warm up and cool down properly and don't get too carried away with the squats and lunges!

Hopefully I will be able to rejoin you ladies in the not so distant future. Well done to those who are keeping it up. It sounds like you are doing fantastically, Swatchdog :)

YouGoonie · 11/07/2012 14:16

I haven't shredded since last week as I've been away and my thigh is really hurting for some reason!
I'm going to start again tonight and hope that gets rid of the thigh pain!
Well done Swatchdog!

Congrats Swatchdog! I am afraid I am lagging behind a bit, did level 1 day 6 today. Well done to everyone who has been able to soldier on. Bit concerned to hear about your knee pain Mummybare, hope it gets better soon.

Swatchdog · 11/07/2012 21:53
  • I really don't deserve the praise, I've just been cracking on with it as 20 minutes in the sitting room is easier than an hour in the gym! Level 2 is taxing, I had to stick with Anita on lots of stuff yesterday but fared better today. There are lots of plank type moves and it is harder than level one. I did fit into a pair of trousers that I haven't got into for a while today, so am feeling good!

mummybare - I'd be a bit worried about your knees. Lunges are actually quite a difficult exercise for someone coming back to exercise as they require a lot of knee stability. As you've recently given birth the relaxin in your system will still be affecting your ligaments, thus destabilising your knee joints. Maybe replace lunges with squats in the workout (when you're feeling better) as they work the same muscles in the same ways (although a teeny bit less glute, ime) without as much risk of injury - just keep your knees behind your toes!

Yougoonie - hope the thigh is feeling better. Don't train too far through it, as training on an injury is a sure fire way of getting hurt! Maybe more dynamic stretching at the start of the work out will tell you whether to carry on or not. Take care!

div22c - well done on getting past halfway with level 1! It gets better from hereon in (until level 2)!

YouGoonie · 12/07/2012 10:20

Hi Swatchdog. Thigh is fine today. Maybe it was in shock at not having to do the Shred while I was away Wink

I did level 1 this morning. It wasn't as hard as the first time, probably the equivalent of day 3 so hopefully I get back in the routine.

Mummybare - please be careful with your knee. Can you not do the parts that hurt the knee and do extra punches or similar instead?

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive....wish it would hurry up, I cant wait to give it a go :)

div22c · 12/07/2012 17:01

Hey Yougoonie, good to hear you are better

I am not really dieting on the pretext for the reason that I don't have alot of weight to lose (no thanks to my eating habits, just an overactive metabolism methinks!) but I do have a fair amount of flab - usual problem areas of hips, thighs and tum. Wonder if I should start a diet plan alongwith the shred?

Level 1 Day 7 done today, though I use cans of tomato and follow Anita...can't decide if I should move to the next level after Day 10

mumat39 · 14/07/2012 19:56

Hello

I got my dvd out of the envelope and the cellophane and stuck it in the DVD today and did day 1 of level 1. I've had the package sat on my sofa for about 2 months Confused

I was starting to get tired during the warm up, but managed to get through it, mostly. I can't do press-ups so did what I could and didn't use weights. But I still bit up a sweat and felt tired afterwards and my legs felt tired too.

I will try and do Day 2 tomorrow but we are out for the day so it might have to wait until later in the day, so I hope I have the whatever it is to actually do it.

Hope you're all still doing well.
xxx

mumat39 · 14/07/2012 19:56

built, not bit

poorbuthappy · 14/07/2012 20:00

Just done day 2 of level 1.
Did think I was gonna throw up when dt1 landed on my stomach (from what felt like a great height - although she only laid on me!) whilst doing the last abs exercise!
Sat here thinking the kids should be in bed but can't face the stairs yet...

div22c · 18/07/2012 14:18

Finished ten days of L1 yesterday, taking a day off today, planning to start L2 tomorrow...a bit scared as discussions on here suggest it's a killer!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 18/07/2012 15:16

I found level one really easy so moved up to level two and what a difference!! It was do-able but much harder than L1 so I will stick to L2 for a week or so before easing into L3! Loving the walking into pressups but not so keen on the squat thrusts!
