Did you do the level 1 once a day or more? When did you know to move to the next level? And how much do you do to maintain it? Is it as terrifying as it sounds?

Of course everyone can join so you can all give me a kick up the bum
I've had a quick look at Shirley's thread and it looks good so will sit down and go through it properly.
I've done day 2. Still sweating but managed to complete it all with a few 5 second breaks.
Good luck everyone :)

Hi all! I started shredding yesterday and it's not quite as bad as I thought! I won't tell you what I was expecting... I'll be back on it tonight if I can get DD to sleep in time to allow me to let my big plate of pasta go down. Am aiming to be at least partially shredded for a family wedding in 3 weeks time. Not too bothered about weight loss, but would like to shift a few inches from my middle.

Good luck to you all!

wem · 01/07/2012 19:47

The bit that kills me is the jumping jacks and the jump rope section. Sharp stabby knives in my thighs on the second time round for them. I can just about get through the rest of the workout but I have to stop for a few seconds and shake my legs every time I do that bit.

Pops73 · 01/07/2012 20:03

I've just ordered the DVD after reading this thread, it's being delivered on Tuesday.
Please could I join you all and have your help in kicking my butt so that I actually do it?

Pops73 · 01/07/2012 20:04

Do I need a skipping rope?

Swatchdog · 01/07/2012 20:13

mummybare you started at the same time as me! Shall we try to move up to the next levels together?

I'm trying to get back into my lovely clothes that I bought after I lost lots of weight last year, I took my eye off the ball and gained 10 lbs. I want them gone!

Pops you don't need a skipping rope, the jump rope bit is with an imaginary rope. You do need a mat and some hand weights though.

mumat39 · 01/07/2012 20:18

I don't have a mat :(

Would my carpeted floor do?

I've got tins for the weights although I'm assuming I won't be using these for my first go at this?

How long does the actual routine take when you start? I still haven't opened my envelope that it arrived in.

I'm Well impressed by all you ladies who received yours a did a session all on the same day. WOW!!!

Swatchdog · 01/07/2012 20:27

Yes, your carpeted floor will do, though if you glow like I do you might want to pop a towel down.

I used weights on my first go, but play in the gym so may have had a better starting point. You can do all the exercises without weights, and if you want light ones maybe use small water bottles with a little bit of water in them.

It's just 20 minutes, a short warm up, 3 x 6 minute circuits and then a short cool down - or at least it is at level 1. I'm not sure about the higher levels as I don't want to scare myself watching them before I need to do them!

YouGoonie · 01/07/2012 20:39

Wem that section hurts me too! I had 2 of my breaks there and my thighs are hurting quite a bit now.
Mumat39 I used tins as weights :) It wasn't as bad as I thought but I think that's because I did a body pump class a few months ago and nearly fell down the stairs leaving the gym Blush

mumat39 · 01/07/2012 20:51

Thanks Swatchdog and YouGoonie

YouGoonie, I used to belong to a gym that had steps outside the studio where the classes I went to were. All I can say is what a stupid place to put steps. Confused It sounds like you're doing really well so I do feel a bit inspired to at least get mine out of the envelope. :)

I read about TABATA yesterday so tried 4 minutes of that today although it was whilst I was waiting for DC's lunch to cook and had to stop half way through because I was pooped as I had to see to the sausages. But I did it so was a bit pleased that did. My DD came in and asked WHAT are you doing mummy?!? She's 4.5 but on the last set of jumping jacks she joined in :)

YouGoonie · 01/07/2012 21:00

Aww mumat39, my ds is 4.5 too and he was attempting the jumping jacks. Very cute aren't they :)

Swatchdog Let me know when you're thinking of moving up and i'll do the same - don't want to make any promises, but definitely nice to have a 'running mate' on the off-chance I can keep up! Are you doing it every day? And/or combining it with any other exercise? I'll be doing some buggy fit and yoga classes and I have some other DVDs, but I doubt I'll use them much now I have this. (Particularly if I start getting results - fingers crossed!)

mumat39 I had it for a good week before the cellophane came off!

wem · 01/07/2012 21:16

DD1 is 3.8 and loves doing 'exercises' with me Grin. I've got a great video of her working out along with Jillian, using spice jars instead of weights :). She starts the jumping jacks then stops and says 'I can't do all of them mummy.' She also tells me to do the press-ups on my toes instead of my knees. Luckily she's not as scary as Jillian so I'm getting away with that one for now.

Swatchdog · 01/07/2012 21:38

Mummybare I'm also doing a bit of spinning and some running. I'm going to try to do it every day although I have house guests for 5 days from Wednesday so it may be hard. I'm kind of using it as my "extra" for a bit of toning as I'm quite active but need to lose the weight I've been packing on.

Am combining it with MFP and giving up booze. Eight days with no wine so far, and a whole pound off. I'm questioning whether it's worth it, but the bloat has gone so I'm looking slimmer already. I hope that Jillian will help me keep the weight off this time.

mummybare · 01/07/2012 23:07

I'm impressed, Swatchdog - and not too hopeful of being able to keep pace! I gave birth 8 weeks ago and am breastfeeding, so not pushing it too hard, but feeling so much better having introduced some activity in the past couple of weeks.

Did level 1 again tonight and there were only a couple of times near the beginning when I needed to miss out a few reps and take a breath, which is an improvement on yesterday, and once I got into it, it was great. In a funny sort of way...

SuddenlyMadameGlamour · 02/07/2012 06:51

Ok, just about to do day 1 level 1 now before dd wakes up! Wish me luck! Grin

SuddenlyMadameGlamour · 02/07/2012 08:11

Ok so did it! Nearly dying now though. Kept nearly talking myself out of it while I was doing it. What can I tell myself when I am halfway through and my body is crying out to stop that will keep me going?! Grin

Swatchdog · 02/07/2012 12:40

Well done MadameGlamour!

I tend to find that cutting any exercise into small chunks keeps me going. With running it can be the next lamppost or the next bridge, with a workout class it's the end of the song, and on a treadmill I break my time target into 10 and just work on 1/10th at a time. With shred as its short circuits can you just focus on getting to the end of each exercise or section, whether it's "just" three minutes of strength, or "just" 30 seconds of jumping jacks and then focus on the next bit. I always find that if I promise myself a rest after the next bit I push on and don't take said rest.

mummybare - am in awe of you getting back to activity so quickly, so don't feel I'll leave you behind. For me this is a lot about discipline, and a way to do the workouts I would normally avoid like shoulders. Do lets try to keep it up together! It'll be fun!

cluelessnchaos · 02/07/2012 13:05

Day 5 today and did 4 push ups before I cheated and did half ones. Tommorow I'm determined to do all of them.

Completely in awe of mummybare shredding so soon after giving birth. I didn't know my own name when mine were 8 weeks

YouGoonie · 02/07/2012 13:10

Well done everyone! I did day 3 today and it was a teeny tiny bit easier then yesterday. Or I'm so tired I didn't try so hard!
I've also signed up to my fitness pal and started that today. I only have 600 calories left for lunch and dinner though!

YouGoonie · 02/07/2012 13:13

clueless I was in a daze for about 4 months after having my DSs. Mummybare is an inspiration and obviously not as lazy as me :)

OP posts:
Swatchdog · 02/07/2012 16:46

I've just done day 3 and found I was so weak on the press ups. I hope it'll be easier tomorrow! I also decided to watch level 2 and it looks way more fun than level 1 - I'm excited to move up in a week!

YouGoonie - if you want to friend me on MFP I'm HannahT78. Maybe we can motivate one another on there too.

YouGoonie · 02/07/2012 18:02

Swatchdog I will try and add you now. If I can't figure it out, I've got the same name as on here :)

OP posts:
mummybare · 03/07/2012 15:47

Aww, you guys! You'll make me blush! You should save your admiration for someone who deserves it though - I am purely motivated by vanity, which is not a very attractive quality, I know :o (although it has the added bonus of giving me more energy.)

Did day 3 last night. Like you Swatchdog I found the push ups hard yesterday. I find I get into it around the middle of the 2nd circuit - specifically when the punching starts.

Still, we are all well on our way to being shredded - yay!

mummybare · 03/07/2012 15:48

The exercise has the bonus of giving me energy, not the vanity. That would just make no sense!
