Well some of you are, clearly!

And I notice more talk about maintenance, which is evidently a very good sign.

I think the best way for maintenance is to gradually increase your carbs until weight loss either stops or you find that you're putting weight back on.

Don't rush out and fall face first into a plate of pasta, though! Start with fruit and veg (be careful with which fruits and how much), and possibly some legumes - e.g. lentils, or beans - i.e. we're looking to add 'good' carbs into the diet, rather than rush straight into 'accessible' carbs which have an immediate impact on your blood sugars.

Today is Day 1 of Week 1 in my 'let's get that last half stone off' before I go on holiday. (Except that last night's meal, plus a bit of 'eye off the ball' time, means it's more than half a stone now ...)

I think I mean turnip, swede is the sort of slightly orangey sweeter one isn't it? this one is white and purpley.

mumofjust1 · 28/06/2012 21:41

Biwi - not all carbs!

I've been having bacon for breakfast, a small handful of nuts for a snack, meat and salad for lunch, couple of small spoons of greek yoghurt mid afternoon and meat, advocado and salad for dinner. All salads with the oily dressing you suggested on my thread or mayo. Salads have been lettuce, toms, cucumber, green peppers, celery, radishes. Having a small bit of cheese with my bacon. Also tuna.

2 cups of normal tea (no sugar) per day and lots of water sometimes with a slice of lemon or lime, and herbal teas (no sugar) throughout the day.

Does that sound ok? Also, can I drink anything other than water or herbal tea? Diet coke or something similar?

MrsHerculePoirot · 28/06/2012 21:49

Hi everyone - sounds like everyone is doing brilliantly! When I weighed yesterday morning I had lost that lb I had put on last week, plus a further 2.5 so deffo think a bit of water retention as have been very good so far this week! Only one tea or coffee a day with milk and then lots and lots of water.

All these recipes sound delish - DH cooked fried cabbage and bacon with cream last night to go with our meat which was lovely. He is really getting in to it and asking about all sorts of veg - last question was about broad beans, are they too carby? Is there a handy website to check carbs per 100 g that anyone can recommend please?

Happy Birthday Nigella!

BIWItheBold · 28/06/2012 22:13

Turnip is 2g carbs per 100g

OP posts:
BIWItheBold · 28/06/2012 22:15

Broad beans will probably be too carby - hang on ...

Yep, 11.7g carbs per 100g. Any bean/legume is really too carby until you're in maintenance, to be honest.

mumofjust1 - that all sounds fine! Just be careful of the nuts, as they can become very carby very quickly. And no to Diet Coke!

Do you count calories at all, or just the carbs? I'm logging into mfp to keep track of everything, and I seem to be eating far less calories than I was before (like 600 p/day less). Is that how it should be?

The cravings for something sweet are killing me, I can think of nothing else. Sad

BIWItheBold · 28/06/2012 22:25

No you don't need to count calories.

What have you been eating? List out your meals for me over the last few days and I'll see if I can help.

Your cravings will disappear shortly - honestly!

PenisVanLesbian · 28/06/2012 22:32

today I had
B: 2 thin rashers 1 fried egg, small handful fried mushroom
L: hardboiled egg, cucumber slices with fried feta on top
D: bolognese with lots of veg in, sprinkle of cheese, sauteed asparagus and baby corn.

yesterday:
B 2 boiled eggs 1 slice ham
L creamed mushrooms w/ 2 frankfurters
D: small pork chop with green salad, mixed stir fried veg, asparagus.

thanks

Thegoddessblossom · 28/06/2012 22:32

Swede is on allowed list tho yeah?

mumofjust1 · 28/06/2012 22:51

Thanks biwi - the lowest carb nuts I could find were pistachios - is there any others that are lower?

BIWItheBold · 28/06/2012 22:52

Boiled swede is 2.3g carbs per 100g, so yes, it is allowed!

Penis - I wonder if you're eating enough fat? And also if you're eating enough - I notice how many times you use the word 'small'!

But apart from that, your meals look fine. Don't worry about the calories. Your focus should be on making sure you eat fewer carbs, but with good quality meat/fish. Be careful about the amount of processed meat you're eating - bacon and frankfurters and ham - we're trying to cut that right back so that we're eating 'clean' food, i.e. fresh/natural/unprocessed as far as possible.

thank you for all the birthday wishes!
I had yummy fillet steak fried in butter with courgettes and some salad. It was so delicious and filling that I really can't understand how I ever would have needed potatoes with that!
Then, I had strawberries and cream and coconut oil but I am weird like that
I ate all that whilst watching the unexpectedly late Wimbledon that was on TV - Nadal is out, who would've thought it!

Time for bed now - but Thanks to BIWI and everyone else for enabling me to have my first low carb birthday x

silver73 · 29/06/2012 00:58

Hi everyone I would love to join you. I need to lose about 2 stone in 8 weeks. I am also doing an hour of Callanetics a day to tone my muscles and 20 minutes of Tracy Anderson arm exercises.

Could you tell me how to begin? I'd like to start tomorrow if at all possible.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/06/2012 05:39

I knew I was doomed

sybilfaulty · 29/06/2012 06:22

Morning girls

Happy birthday for yesterday, Nigella.

Am finally going to have my mushrooms in cream. I am slightly concerned as I don't like cream but am going to give it a whirl anyway. Pray the magic works for me too!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 29/06/2012 07:35

no didnt put it on the spreadsheet BIWI would need the link again, sorry.

glad everyone is doing well.

FiddleDeFat · 29/06/2012 08:03

Well done on enjoying a low carb birthday Nigella, and belated happy birthday. Did Jins not divulge the low carb cake recipe for you?

Welcome silver73. The rules we are all following strictly (ha!) are at the top of this thread. There's also a weigh-in spreadsheet here if you want your progress to be recorded. Just post your starting weight and I'll add you.

JaxTeller I remember your name from the start of bootcamp, welcome back. Your weight was on the first weigh-in way back in April, so I've put this on the spreadsheet. If that's okay, all you have to do is update your weight in the weeks since then - or just post the details of your marvellous weight loss and I'll sort out the spreadsheet.

WillieWaggledagger · 29/06/2012 09:33

belated happy birthday nigella!

i am working from home at ILs and have been quizzed by dp's mother about weight loss (she is v overweight and does slimming world but she isn't very strict)

i know how she feels about low carb so i just said that I had stopped eating sugar and starch and stopped eating low fat, and talked about trying to avoid blood sugar highs/lows and cravings. she was not convinced as she has HBP and has been told to eat low fat/cholesterol

Jacaqueen · 29/06/2012 09:41

A self indulgent post from me if you don't mind.

Nearly 11 weeks ago I was sitting in the car on my way back from our Easter holiday feeling dreadful. I was fast heading towards 15st and the so called healthy eating plan I had started back in January clearly was not working.

I have started a diet every January for as long as I can remember, with varying degrees of success. However I always start another diet come the autumn in order to lose the regained weight for Christmas. And so it goes on.

So there I was in the car totally disgusted with myself that over 3 months had passed and I hadn't really lost any weight, when I came across a thread by BIWI advertising a low carb bootcamp about to start the next day. I decided it was a sign and that I should join.

I had done lowcarb before and believed in it, but had never really managed to stick at it make it a permanent life style.

Joining this thread was a big deal for me. I am not a joiner or someone who easily shares their feelings but I decided to give it a go and I am so glad that I did. Knowing that others are going through the same as you and having the same issues and problems is so comforting. All the little gems of advice and information that I had forgotten about were so helpful. Being part of a group and wanting to contribute to the collective weight loss was a big motivator to stick with it. Seeing others struggle with unexplained gains and several weeks of no losses helped me persevere.

On Monday after 10 weeks I was 13st 2lbs which was what I weighed 2 weeks ago. I have been fluctuating between 13st2lbs and 13st 5lbs for ages.
Wednesday I was 13st 1lb. Yesterday I was 13st. Today I am 12st 13lbs!
I have not done anything that different this week, just hung in there and been rewarded by the scales being nice to me.

We go on holiday on Sunday and I am almost 2 stone lighter. A few weeks ago I was a bit despondent still feeling rather fat and regretting not starting this sooner. However today I feel fantastic. My hair nails and skin are great. I have energy yet feel calm. Unfortunately I am not 6 feet tall so I am still overweight and have about 2-3 stone still to lose, but at this point that doesn't matter. I will deal with that over the coming months.

I really can't thank you all enough for this thread. BIWI for starting it, The Spreadsheet Gurus, The Experts, The Newbies ,all of you who post and share knowledge, excitement and dissapointment. You have all really helped me so Thankyou Thanks

TinTinsSexySister · 29/06/2012 09:46

Soooo, week 7 for me and no loss last week and to be honest I don't feel any thiner yet this week either. Sad

Really annoying as I have not cheated once. Not even a little.

Best friend's wedding is tomorrow and I know it's a pie & mash main course (inspired) I was going to be good and smuggle in a little packed lunch for myself but I'm now thinking fuck it...how bad would it be?

Jins · 29/06/2012 09:48

The low carb cake recipe cannot be divulged but is on my profile

Well done to everyone so far and a special congratulations to Jacaqueen Grin

WillieWaggledagger · 29/06/2012 10:17

TTSS sorry you're feeling downhearted

Before you think 'fuck it' read Jac's post for inspiration

QueenStromba · 29/06/2012 10:29

11 weeks in and I'm finally ready to ditch the vodka, nuts, and 90% lindt. I'd put on 16 pounds from my very lowest weight back in March. I'm actually quite happy about this number because without low carb I'd have easily doubled that with all of the crap that was going on and according to my scales only 6 pounds of that was fat. I've now lost three pounds since Tuesday.

I actually ended up in Wagamamas last night too and went for miso soup and the ginger beef and coriander salad which didn't seem very carby from the menu - I was expecting the dressing to be really sweet but it was fine. I'd say the whole thing was easily under 15g of carbs, there was very little of the carbier veg. I was half a pound down this morning so it can't have been too bad.

teaandthorazine · 29/06/2012 10:38

Jac what a lovely post Smile

Have been a bit too reliant on the dark choc for the last few days, so think I'm ready for a bit of a Return To Hardcore Bootcamp. I'm really pleased with my weightless so far but have started to slip into a couple of bad habits. Nothing major but I don't want to mess up and lose focus. It'll be a bit easier to be strict for the next few weeks as dp will be away 6 days out of 7, so I'll only have myself to cook for!

BIWItheBold · 29/06/2012 10:58

Jac - that brought tears to my eyes! What a lovely post, and I'm so, so glad that Bootcamp came around at just the right time for you.

TTS - remember that weight loss isn't linear. You will have times when you lose nothing and times when you lose, even if you've been doing the same thing. You do have to keep on keeping on. Don't think 'fuck it' when this happens - as it will only make you feel even worse when the inevitable happens, and you pile the weight back on. By my calculations, weight goes back on at least twice as quickly as it comes off, so you will have to work even harder just to get back to where you were to start with! Try and take a step back and look at what you've achieved overall, not just what's happened (or not happened Grin) in the last week.

QueenStromba - glad to hear it. I hope things are better for you at the moment.

As for me, I caved in last night and had a couple of glasses of white wine, and some macadamia nuts. Despite a day where my food was OK, this evidently impacted on me to a degree, as I was marginally up today - but only by quarter of a pound, so not too bad. Weighed in this morning at 9.13 and half a pound.

I'm going to dinner tonight with some boozy friends of ours, so I will have to exercise all my powers of self-restraint. However, they know I'm low-carbing and will cook appropriately for me - it's the wine/Friday Fuck It that will be the most difficult to resist!

Yesterday:

B - 2 hard-boiled eggs, mashed with light salad cream (couldn't face mayo again for some reason)
L - roast chicken quarter, with olive oil and lemon, fried mushroom, mangetout and baby sweetcorn with chilli
D - 2 hard-boiled eggs, mashed with may (couldn't be arsed to cook anything!)
s - macadamias
3 coffees and 2 glasses of white wine; 3+ litres of water
