6 weeks, one stone to lose - anyone care to join me?

Hello all - am off on holiday second week of August and have rather cunningly managed to weigh in at exactly 1 stone heavier than I'd like to be (through a combination of over eating and not exercising) so am giving myself a challenge - 6 weeks, lose a stone (or as near as damn it). Anyone care to join me?

Rules (that I'm imposing for myself are)

  • 3 meals a day - if snacking between meals fruit only
  • drink at least 11/2 litres of water/herbal tea a day
  • one small treat a day
  • try and fit in exercise at least 4 times a week
  • weigh in only once a week

well done omletta. love the malteser accident!
i nearly had some creamy ice cream with my strawberries last night until DP pointed out i was on a diet- a diet he doesn't actually approve of- he thinks (as said before) running alone will do it. felt slightly narked at first then actually ok as i might have succumbed otherwise- he didnt have any either, we both settled for yogurt which was fine. He has so far said nothing about what passes through my lips, couldn't stand having the diet police living with me!

if i remember i will look at foodfocus on my lunch break or when i get home. well done so far everyone! only 3 weeks left for me!!

focuson · 16/07/2012 07:55

Hi karma I am sure mfp has that function as well as it is more advanced I used food focus before so as used to how it works and so comes as second nature - it moments of spare time have dabbled in other apps but always gone back - I do like the success stories on all the others. Good luck to all Monday weigh ins

focuson · 16/07/2012 08:02

Black cat after the 3 weeks are you then just going to run? Once I get to my goal weight I am going to then shift my exercise up to we are planning a big hol in Feb and I truely want a defined tum. Well done for resisting ice cream I live in a house hold of skinnies who cycle long distance so yesterday when they got back kids eat me out of house and home quite handy really

focuson · 16/07/2012 08:04

Omletta only 2lb to end is fab - maltesers the add says are virtually calorie free

sylvev · 16/07/2012 08:10

Hi, I'd like to join too. Have a stone to lose if possible before holiday on 26th August, weighed in at 11 stone this morning. Shall start (re-start again)! jogging and generally cut down on food. Shall have to ban alcohol. A few drinks and I hoover up the contents of the fridgeSad

CuriousMama · 16/07/2012 08:18

sylvev I'd love to be 11 stone that's my goal weight. I'm 5 8 how tall are you? My problem is carbs when I have PMS but have been ok this month. I went from 13 stone to 12.5 so am going in the right direction.

I'm happy with my curves though so if they start going I'll just concentrate on toning up.

Good luck all.

sylvev · 16/07/2012 09:26

Hi Curious, you are doing really well. Yes carbs are my downfall tooSad I'm only 5ft 1 so 11 stone feels heavy for me. I was 12.5 stone last year but have been steadily losing the weight mega-slowly!
Hope you have a good week Smile

dinkystinky · 16/07/2012 09:54

Welcome new joiners - and lovely to see you again Karma.

Have had bifftastic weekend as have caught DS2's killer cold and feeling v sorry for myself - will be aiming to even it out for the rest of this week...

Unfortunately it says 176 calories per 36g pack on the Malteaser box. The box was 150g but DH had some too....

I have found this thread so helpful and am amazed that I am so close to my goal. I am a bit concerned about what happens when I go on holiday on the 7th - we are off to France and there is no way I am avoiding cheese and wine, my two very favourite things things. But I think quite a few of us are on hols about then so perhaps we can reconvene at the start of September?

son98sonia · 16/07/2012 10:42

DAMN! Gained 3 pounds, had a bad week though, going to try to do more exercise, at least 30 mins a day!!! Hopefully.

friendly7 · 16/07/2012 11:11

Good luck to everyone. Never give up girls. I was upset when my scales were showing gaining and today suddenly, I know it's not much, but I've lost 200 g. LOL not sure if it's even worth mentioning. Does anyone else have 1,5 kg or more in the evening compare to the morning? My scales keep showing different figures during the same time of the day too! All I know though that I do need to loose weight and inches of my waist. Will try my best, that's all I can do. Happy week!!!

blackcatsdancing · 16/07/2012 13:57

focuson yes running but also being a mindful eater. Too often i eat when i'm not really hungry or eat too fast and don't appreciate what's going in my mouth, also i really want to permanently kick the snacking habit- apart from a pre or post run healthy snack (not a bar of chocolate!!). On holiday i eat what i like , i don't binge but i will eat pizza if i want it, i will have an icecream a day OR a small slice of patisserie cake etc etc, what i never do on holiday is mindlessly snack so i never put on weight when i'm on hols abroad, to live like that seems ideal. I am actually in the camp of snacking being bad for you even though i know we are often told that eating 5 mini meals is good. Maybe for some people that works but not for me. Look at the french and spanish , they don't snack and overall there are far less obese people there than in the uk or in USA. Do whatever works for you all best though.

i lost 10 pounds a few years ago by running 3 times a week and really toned up legs, plus felt so striong and healthy. 6 weeks is just long enough to give a real boost or a kick start but not so long I get bored and give up. For me i can't wait to start exercising again so i can have a slice of cake if i want it. Can't do that right now as not enough energy...

CuriousMama · 16/07/2012 15:15

sylev well done to you that's amazing weight loss! I'm 44 and definitely feel it's harder to shift now than when I was younger?

CuriousMama · 16/07/2012 15:16

Thanks for the welcome dinkystinky Smile

popsypie · 16/07/2012 17:33

Lost 4lbs which is really weird as have eaten more this week. So lost 3, gained 2 then lost 4, so that is 5lbs in total. Got a big shock when got on the scales - was fully clothed and lunchtime too. It made my day. Think I have a two week cycle of weight loss so will probably gain next week!!! Well done to all the Monday losers - omletta you have done so well to be so close to your goal. I am still a long way off!!! Wink

blackcatsdancing · 16/07/2012 18:26

well done popsypie
hello to curious, we're the same age! and yes it does get harder. I think its down to lower muscle mass leading to a drop in metabolic rate.

CuriousMama · 16/07/2012 23:36

Is that what it is? Pah!

omletta · 17/07/2012 07:09

Congrats popsypie great news.

blackcatsdancing · 17/07/2012 07:53

maybe can be remedied by increasing muscle mass though? i know its vital for women esp to do weight bearing work as they get older

CuriousMama · 17/07/2012 08:41

I dance and do our garden although haven't been gardening this week with the rain. I could do with doing some weight training though. What exercise do you do blackcatsdancing?

blackcatsdancing · 17/07/2012 10:49

curious at the moment just walking but once this 6 weeks is over want to start running again. I could start doing some upper body weight bearing exercise now, lets see how that goes. I have a couple of DVDS i keep meaning to try, yogalates and yoga for weight loss, or i could just do some body bearing exercises such as push ups (girly ones i'm afraid) and tricep dips. I sometimes watch the military fitness people in the park using seating benches to do their exercises on.

CuriousMama · 17/07/2012 17:42

Walking's great exercise. I managed to get to the garden today, dug up some potatoes and planted out some runner beans so not exactly taxing Wink I have walked pooch too though.

popsypie · 17/07/2012 22:15

Had a naughty day - pizza for tea followed by lemon cheesecake. Was nice though. Never mind - back on the wagon tomorrow. Fingers crossed days seem to be brightening up (hope am not speaking too soon) so out and about exercise should be easier! Grin

omletta · 18/07/2012 06:45

I had a naughty day too; a chocolate bar mid afternoon, home mad beef burgers and half a bottle of wine for tea! Having a very stressfull time at work a the moment and it's make me want to snack!

omletta · 18/07/2012 06:46

Made, not mad! Honestly.
