I'm starting this thread early as I'm off to Athens tomorrow, and will be leaving at sparrows fart. (It's mainly for work, although I have a day off on Thursday)

I think we're now a band of mainly hardcore low carbers, although we continue to attract new followers - welcome to you all!

Hopefully, the longer termers will be finding it much easier to follow this WOE and food choices are more automatic. Although I have noticed lots of references to cheesecake and crumble which just will not do if you're wanting the pounds to shift

Let me know how you're all doing - and any tips to share for those for whom the weight loss has slowed down.

does anyone know if almond milk is ok, carb-wise?
I saw it in Waitrose and studied the label - seemed ok but I couldn't really trust my own judgement I dont know why.

jan2011 · 16/06/2012 20:06

i don't think it is Nigella - at least the one i checked the last time i was in tesco.

i will try asking for pouring cream next time!

QueenStromba · 16/06/2012 20:15

jan2011 - are you having whipped cream on your coffee? If so I'm afraid to break it to you that it's normally full of sugar, more than having milk would have been. You need to have pouring cream in your coffee.

leanbh21 · 16/06/2012 20:25

Thanks for the tips BIWI. Still a lot to learn about this WOE! We're playing Kinect though now so maybe that'll help me burn away some of those carbs!!

SharonGless · 16/06/2012 20:34

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 20:43

Yummy dinner tonight - I can recommend.

Sainsbury's are selling leg of lamb at half price. Stud it with slices of garlic, season with salt and pepper and roast for around 2 hours. About half an hour before the end of cooking time, chuck a glass of red wine into the roasting pan.

Serve with:

  • tenderstem broccoli, roasted with sliced shallot, olive oil and salt and pepper
  • green salad, with shallot vinaigrette

Well, had salmon and DH loved it. I still dreaming of sticky BBQ ribs, Chinese anything tbh.

Oh well got through - hurrah!

SingingTunelessly · 16/06/2012 20:50

Ahh Slowly. Why are you eating chips? Sorry if I've missed something. Hope you are ok.

SharonGless · 16/06/2012 20:51

Trawling the freezer as I am in work I. The morning and bugger all to take with me. Eggs are boiling as I speak - doing my online shop now at sainsburys. Thanks for the tip BIWi - mwah!

SharonGless · 16/06/2012 20:56

Slowly - what's up? Talk to us

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 20:56

Slowly - stop! Why are you eating chips?

You can all stop sulking and prying and prodding as I am not going to tell you. All you need to know is that I Should Have Known Better and It Was Not A Good Idea.

SharonGless · 16/06/2012 21:07

Was it Not Big nd Not Clever too? We are just trying to live vicariously through you, although I am not sure I do. If I really wanted to eat something I could, but I want to be slim more than I want to eat

Jins · 16/06/2012 21:13

BBQ for us in the pouring rain but lidl burgers are just too good Grin

Can't believe I'm reading about pizza and chips on a low carb thread. I might have to go back to aibu!!!!!

slowlyburningcalories · 16/06/2012 21:15

me is poorly - D&V bug Thursday, ok yesterday but not terribly hungry so had a few nibbles like prawn cocktail, peppermint tea etc, and then today has been one long day of nausea, stomach cramps, more nausea

so DH suggested a handful of chips and the acid has finally stopped - though still got cramps

SingingTunelessly · 16/06/2012 21:35

Sounds nasty Slowly. Take care and have a cuddle from me. Yes I know it's MN and we don't do hugs. But cuddle must be ok. .

BIWI - I NEED to know. Grin

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 21:43

Oh, slowly, I'm sorry. In your situation I would say that all bets are off and that you just need to focus on getting better. If you had salt on your chips it was probably helpful Smile

Singing. Nope.

Jins. I think I may have to borrow your whip for next week's thread!

Slowly just get better but suggest Something like bovril to drink.have you tried dioralyte? Hope you feel better soon

jan2011 · 17/06/2012 09:20

sorry your not well slowly hope you are feeling ok again this morning... and your body probably used the chips to get better so don't worry about them!

queen totally gutted about the whipped cream! will make sure its pouring cream or else just have black coffee. the other thing i realise is, when you ask for mayonnaise when out, you have no guarantee that its the proper one and not low fat and high carb (and im not about to start quizzing people on their mayo)

i have lost a kilo which im really happy about as i haven't weighed myself for a few weeks, and didn't expect to lose any but i did notice i was less bloated. i am slowly starting to add more fat now. the main fat has been from a few nuts, cheese and avacado. now im starting to add mayonnaise, butter and olive oil into cooking. this is a big step for me, and i feel confident enough to try it now, - i just hope that it works, but if it works for everyone else why not me. ill just have to keep a good eye on the carbs. i don't mind if im not losing weight, i just want everything to be stable and steady and feel good.

sybilfaulty · 17/06/2012 10:22

Slowly, after D and V I think you need to eat whatever your body is telling you it needs to get back on track. It is all over the place and needs to settle before. Hope you are feeling better today.

Have woken feeling great, made pancakes for the kids and took great care not to lick the sugar from my fingers! Am actually not hungry. Hurray! Had half an avocado which was great but didn't need anything else. I barely snacked yesterday either. I wonder if I have turned a corner?

What else is great to eat for fibre and, er, keeping things moving which is not tomatoes? I used to eat lots of carrots but clearly not now, but just need to make sure my veg intake does the necessary. I love all veg apart from sweet potato. Any suggestions?

Have a great sunday everyone. Loving this thread!!

Thegoddessblossom · 17/06/2012 11:20

Stayed in a lovely country house hotel last night. Had asparagus with poached egg and truffle butter to start, and chicken with pea and bacon mash. Totally amazing. And lovely fry up this morning sans toast.

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/06/2012 11:41

Official weigh in day for me: 16 stone 5. That is 7 lbs off - lovely!

DH is now fully on board and joining in - he is however going away on an annual golfing weekend next weekend. He has thought about what he will eat for his meals while away, but wants to know what is the best alcohol to choose? He knows gin and slimline tonic would be a good choice and he is going to try and drink a lot of water in between each drink but would lager, beer or wine be best if he had to choose between the three does anyone know?

slowly I hope you feel much better very soon.

BIWItheBold · 17/06/2012 11:45

sybil - go back to the allowed veg list and make sure that you are eating veg that is 3g carbs per 100g or less - there is plenty of it! Salad with dressing with every meal will help (you can eat an awful lot of lettuce for not many carbs).

I served a side dish of roasted broccoli and shallots last night - roasted in olive oil with black pepper and sea salt crystals - it was absolutely lovely and takes around 20-30 minutes in the oven.

Keeping your fat levels up and drinking lots of water will also help things to keep moving!
