I'm starting this thread early as I'm off to Athens tomorrow, and will be leaving at sparrows fart. (It's mainly for work, although I have a day off on Thursday)

I think we're now a band of mainly hardcore low carbers, although we continue to attract new followers - welcome to you all!

Hopefully, the longer termers will be finding it much easier to follow this WOE and food choices are more automatic. Although I have noticed lots of references to cheesecake and crumble which just will not do if you're wanting the pounds to shift

Let me know how you're all doing - and any tips to share for those for whom the weight loss has slowed down.

Oh, that sounds like a good recipe Singing. I guess the water is just a substitute for the can of pineapple juice that I would normally use. I would then use 2 tblsp tomato puree (instead of ketchup), 2 tblsp vinegar and 2tblsp soy sauce. Miss out the tblsp of sugar I would also normally use, and I guess the guar gum could be missed out too and just have a thinner sauce. Not sure what it is but it doesn't exactly sound like a pure food. Think I'll try this tomorrow.

I quite often have meat coated in 5 spice powder, which makes it quite Chinesey, and serve with veg and beansprouts in soy sauce.

Tonight it's beef olives in a casserole - the butcher assures me the sausagemeat is 100% meat with no fillers, so looking forward to them. Haven't had them for ages.

We talk a lot about food around here, don't we!

OFFS - I did wonder ... grin]

SingingTunelessly All you need to know is that it was Very Bad.

jan2011 - that sounds lovely! Nothing to feel guilty about there at all!

Re sweet and sour sauce - I really don't see how you could do that without it

a) being full of sugar
b) and/or being full of artificial additives

I've been struggling this week and bought a huge baked cheese cake (my favourite) and ate two slices over a couple of days. I can't say it was that great either.

I've really been tempted to throw my hands up and give up on the whole thing, then yesterday an amazing thing happened. I remembered a pair of boots that I bought about five years ago online that I absolutely love, but have never been able to zip up over my calves. I dug them out and they fit beautifully. It made me realise how well I've done and hopefully will give me a kick to get back on track.

I've been getting sloppy, sweetener in my tea/coffee, tomatoes/peppers appearing a bit too much and 80% chocolate becoming a nightly treat. Needless to say no weight loss despite a 30 mile bike ride this week.

Must get back into the swing of things as it's rather nice having so many 'oooh, you've lost weight' comments.

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 18:44

NMP - it's brilliant, isn't it? I was out last night at a reunion of 150 people who all worked in my last company - we were celebrating the 40 years since the company started - and I had some lovely comments about how I looked/my weight. It does tend to make you realise what you have achieved.

ok - someone tell when I'll stop feeling so damned Envy

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 16/06/2012 19:13

Ok, day 4 I NEED SOMETHING SWEET!!!

What can i have??

BettySuarez · 16/06/2012 19:14

NMP - well done for keeping going and so envious re the boots. I have never been able to find a pair to fit over my chunky thighs Sad but it must be wonderful reaching those milestones Smile

Thankyou for ideas re sweet and sour although apologies if question has caused temptation! I will probably give it a miss as really don't like artificial sweetners

Thank you to everyone for your continued support - this is only day four for me but I feel as if I have some new found friends (even if you all have weird names Blush Grin)

Betty xxx

BettySuarez · 16/06/2012 19:16

HokeyCokey - day four here too! You DO NOT need anything sweet (repeat 10 times) Grin

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 19:18

Hokey - it is hard, I know, but the aim of the two weeks is to break your sugar addiction. If you give in now and have something sweet it will undermine the work that you have done so far.

Can you treat yourself to a food that you really, really love? A lovely piece of fillet steak, fried in butter, with a creamy mushroom sauce and served with a salad in garlicky vinaigrette?

Or some prawns, fried in butter with garlic and chilli?

Or roast chicken with roasted vegetables and mayonnaise?

As a few starters for 10 Grin

Honestly, you will get through this and you will feel much better for it.

HokeyCokey GO AND BRUSH YOUR TEETH NOW !!

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 19:19

Hokey - do you have any low carb cookery books for inspiration? I can really recommend the Idiot Proof Diet recipe book.

Had a bit of a struggle this evening. We were out to dinner with friends?at Pizza Hut!! I tried to minimise the damage by just having one slice of my pizza (olive and mushroom topping at least) and then filled up with lettuce, cucumber and a very small spoonful of peppers. I completely skipped dessert even though I usually love the warm cookie dough puss but, TBH, I didn't even really miss it and I wasn't necessarily that fussed about the pizza either. Hopefully it won't set me back too far.

I managed ok the rest of the day. B-scrambled egg and mushrooms in butter, L- pack-up of green salad with cheddar and tuna and Italian dressing. We were out all day and I didnt feel the need for snacks at all and brought loads of water to drink - luckily where we were has storage lockers LOL.

I did wonder whether some of the weight loss in this WOE is from the extra energy used up during all those loo trip!!!

leanbh21 · 16/06/2012 19:22

warm cookie dough puDs !

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 19:24

leanbh - why did you have any pizza though? There is always plenty of salad in their salad bar. Did you feel an obligation to eat pizza? Why do you think that was?

It wasn't a great choice of venue, really - but I know that sometimes you can't influence this.

And one other question when you say Italian Dressing - is that something that you bought? Do you know how many carbs it contained? It's always better to make your own.

warm cookie dough puss sounds like a kind of weird sauce Grin [yuk]

NigellasGuest · 16/06/2012 19:27

actually, thinking of warm cookie dough puss next time I'm confronted with chocolate caramel sauce or similar could be a good strategy .....

hokey I find brushing my teeth helps also.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/06/2012 19:33

BIWI just to reassure you I promise I'm not blindly ignoring my doctor and following you Grin. I am carefully monitoring blood sugars, and my consultant I happy for me to low carb as losing the weight will massively benefit me. It is more the dietician ad diabetic nurse specialists that always bang on about the carbs...!

I have converted DH with my weight loss. He has been away all week and has been very good today!!!

leanbh21 · 16/06/2012 19:34

BIWI we were with the kids and I've been trying not to make a big issue out of eating differently around them, mainly because my mum was on a diet pretty much my entire childhood (not that she's in any way overweight- same build as me) and i had a very messed up relationship with food through my teens including not eating for days / purging after family meals and I think there's a link between the two. Also there was no protein whatsoever in the salad.

The Italian dressing is just herbs in olive oil. No carbs.

LOL at Nigella

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 19:35

phew!

I do believe, from everything that I have read, that low carbing can only benefit diabetics. And I wish my own DF would eat this way (he is a type 2 diabetic who is now having to inject insulin). However, I know that the advice that is given is to eat carbs, which makes absolutely no sense to me.

i found tesco brand soy milk it has 0.1g of carbs in every 100ml i love it in my tea.

i am finding though, if i go out for a coffee and ask for cream on a regular coffee (like an americano) they look at me as if i have 3 heads? is it really so weird. how come its ok to have it on hot chocolate or mochas but not coffee...

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 16/06/2012 19:48

Thank you Betty i do not need anything sweet, i do not need anything sweet....Grin

Yes BIWI i have that book, will have a look.

And thank you Nigella and lean, am off to brush my teeth!

BIWItheBold · 16/06/2012 19:50

leanbh21 - I get you - but sometimes I think you need to make your own needs more important than those of other people. There must have been other/better places to go? Also, in those situations, don't worry about not being able to eat protein - far better to go without than to eat carbs instead.

OP posts:
NigellasGuest · 16/06/2012 20:00

Jan I found the same in Starbucks - but what you want to do is call it "pouring cream" - I always ask for an americano with pouring cream. You can even ask for it on the side in a little pot in Starbucks (presumably also Costa).
