So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

Oh bugger, celeriac tastes like swede/parsnip? I really hate Swede and parsnips, they are like the only veg I won't eat. There goes my chips :(

In bed with a cup of tea, thinking about the manic day ahead...

B - cheese and ham
L - scrambled eggs, fried tomatoes
D - chicken stuffed with mozzarella, veg of some sort.

Exercise will be rushing around town pushing a buggy laden with shopping, mucking out horses, lugging hay and water about, pushing a wayward trolley around the supermarket, then riding one of the horses later. I will be a stick by the weekend I tell you, a stick!

LackaDAILYcarb · 24/04/2012 07:45

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Still 12.9 this morning, a lb heavier than Thursday :( I don't even think I'm in ketosis yet.

I'm off to move my scales around the floor till I find a better reading Wink

Morning losers Grin

Bad night's sleep last night; ds was in with me all night because if bad dreams :sigh: Anyway thankfully I've got a day off work today - unfortunately I need to spend it cleaning up the utter pit that my place has become over the last few days!

B - choc nut protein shake. I know these are probably not great on bootcamp but I really hate eating first thing and they fill me up for ages
L - not sure, am at home so it will be a fridge raid
D - belly pork roasted with fennel, can't decide between celeriac and cauli mash, buttered veggies.

Since I'm entertaining tonight (my parents but it counts!) I was thinking of doing a pud... I have a cupboard full of 80% choc, tempted to do a dark choc mousse... What say you BIWI? (as if I didn't know! Wink)

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 08:11
Grin

Desserts are a nightmare on this WOE and especially on bootcamp.

TBH I usually do a dessert and a cheeseboard, and then avoid the dessert for myself depending on how much wine I've had.

Could you serve a platter of mixed berries with cream? IPD has some lovely dessert recipes - do you have the book?

They have a chocolate mousse recipe, if you're interested? And a baked cheesecake which looks interesting.

Another 1lb off this morning so thats 9lbs now.

I had no cheese or cream yesterday so I am going to cut them out untill the weekend. Still having some Lacto free milk in my tea and making more effort with the water.

Last night I had some cauliflower rice which I fried in garlic oil and added a bit of green pesto. Amazing! Had that with roast ham and leeks. Again didn't miss the pasta that the rest of the family had.

I made a batch of curried cauliflower soup last night so will have that for lunch. I also made some spicy lamb meatballs so I may have a few of those for breakfast in a little while. A bit random but I think I have had eggs every morning so far. Not sure about dinner yet.

SharonGless · 24/04/2012 08:25

cardoon · 24/04/2012 08:43

tea, sugar free rasp or strawb jelly with 1/3 pint boiling water, made up to 1 pint with stewed rhubarb (no extra sweetner required) is THE most delicious pudding........perhaps with a little cream to serve Smile

WizzyBizzy · 24/04/2012 08:53

Ooh can you post the recipe for the jelly please?

WizzyBizzy · 24/04/2012 08:54

Actually i'm bring dim. Do you purée the berries? Not going to make on boot camp but looking for some treats for next week!

WizzyBizzy · 24/04/2012 09:03

I have too much to say this morning! But forgot to mention.... I weighed myself today and seem to have lost another couple of pounds which - if true (don't trust crap scales but would like to hope!) means I've lost half a stone since start of boot camp despite a couple of minor slips. That was my target for the fortnight! So happy! more importantly I am tarting to feel trimmer and....

i wore a dress last night that pre-babies was my stock easy night out dress but which I've not been able to wear for a while. I got it when I was 17 - 15 years ago! Ok so it is very very stretchy but wow!

I am sold on this WOE, thanks BIWI!

cardoon · 24/04/2012 09:05

That was the recipe Wizzy Grin

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 09:18

IPD has a lovely jelly recipe that makes a mousse:

one sachet of sugar-free raspberry jelly (or whatever flavour you like)
120 ml boiling water
120 ml cold water
230 ml double cream

Put the jelly crystals into a large mixing bowl and pour on the boiling water. Start whisking immediately to dissolve the jelly

When it looks like most of the crystals have dissolved, add the cold water and continue whisking. It will froth up a bit.

Add the double cream and continue to whisk until the mixture is cold and quite stiff.

Put into the fridge for about 30 minutes until set

Morning Losers.

sharon - hope you're ok sweetheart.

All of you wavering on celeriac - honestly it's bloody LOVELY. I think I linked to a curried chip recipe further up the thread, I had them on Sunday with roast chicken (and some of the buttery chickeny juices spooned over) and I watched the boys eating their chips and felt NO jealousy whatsoever!

Still no loss for me this morning. . I went swimming in my lunch hour yesterday and did a body pump class in the evening - no sweeteners at all, nothing even vaguely "cheaty". I am baffled. I drank 4 litres of water during work, then another 2 pints before the class and then some during the class and then another pint after and my ketostix was PURPLE before I went to bed.

What g'wan?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 09:19

Oh, serves 2-4 apparently.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 09:21

Body healing itself, I reckon, Shirl. Honestly. You were proper poorly, weren't you?

And you're doing a lot of exercise, so you will be replacing fat with muscle, which weighs more. However, it is denser, so you should be seeing your measurements change. Have you measured yourself? It's worth doing that.

OP posts:
teaandthorazine · 24/04/2012 09:21

Well done Wizzy - that's a fantastic loss! 'tarting to feel trimmer' though, hey? Does that work then? Grin

Cardoon - thanks for the jelly idea - have been meaning to get some rhubarb so if Waitrose can oblige I might well give that a try tonight. Though have to admit am soooo tempted by the choc mousse in the IPD book, just dark choc and double cream really, mmmmmm. We're not drinking tonight so I reckon a little bit of pud is an acceptable compromise (I'll make everything in tiny ramekins, how's that?)

In other news - have just realised I can get my jeans on and off without undoing the zip or buttons - woopwoop!

cardoon · 24/04/2012 09:23

That post was for teaandthorazine btw, there is no tea in the recipe!

pharmgirl · 24/04/2012 09:25

Coming really late to this, but trying to keep up in my own small way. Fluctuating weight loss, but going in the right direction. Can you please clarify something for me? If a label says "total carbs 16g", "of which sugars 2g", how many grams of carbs am I getting? Sorry if answer already on this thread--scanned through and couldn't see. Thanks.

ShirtyKnot · 24/04/2012 09:26

I took my measurements last friday, so waiting until this friday to take them again.

I'm staying off those scales now - Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke!

The thing is that there's a little voice in my brain saying "this isn't working for you - you've lost 1.5lbs in 2 weeks and that's with no cheating at all". I'm starting to question myself, question the fat intake, worry about how many calories I'm taking in...I'm starting to wonder about reducing my intake of food - I'm worrying about it all and it's STUPID!

Ignore me. I'll get over it.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 09:26

You're getting 16g of carbs. In the UK no need to subtract anything from the carb count.

Welcome, pharmgirl! Are you going to join us 'officially'?

OP posts:
pharmgirl · 24/04/2012 09:29

Erm.......maybe. Just a bit shocked that my first slice of bread in almost 2 weeks has shot my carb allowance for the day. Weep.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 24/04/2012 09:31

oh god, stood on the scales last night (I know I shouldnt have as it was evening etc) and they were not very funny. Sad

Anyway, yesterday and today will be another story as will this week. Not planning on going out for dinner so will be in total control of what goes in my gob. Grin

I have been quite hungry Sunday and yesterday but that is because I had sugary/carby things at the weekend/end last week so its my own fault. All will be fine.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 09:31

How many carbs are you allowing yourself?

And yes, bread is very carb-heavy! It really is hard to include it in a low carb diet, although Charles Clarke does allow 1 slice of wholemeal bread per day. Maybe read up on his plan?

IMVHO it is far better to 'spend' your carbs on veg/salad than try and 'shoe horn' carby stuff into your day.

pharmgirl · 24/04/2012 09:33

I thought around 20g was what to aim for?
