So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

So where do we stand on pork scratchings? As I have just eaten a packet...

teaandthorazine · 27/04/2012 18:15

blossom - I think they're fine aren't they? I know Atkins positively recommends them!

GreenEyesAndHam · 27/04/2012 18:20

Hey all

B- protein shake (from the IPD book)
L- small pork chop with red cabbage
D- chicken curry

mummyduff · 27/04/2012 18:28

OMG is it true I can eat pork scratchings? say its true please x x x

Thegoddessblossom · 27/04/2012 18:33

Mfp says fat=loads, protein and calories=loads, carbs=0

NotMostPeople · 27/04/2012 18:35

Ok I get the message about Atkins bars. I haven't actually eaten them, but they are in the house just in case. I honestly don't want to go off the rails and I know that if I falter and eat proper chocolate I'll forget the whole thing. At least with the Atkins I've only been half bad.

B: Ham/salami/tiny bit of cheese and a couple of spoons of coleslaw
L: tuna sashimi (oooh get me) with salad

Not sure what I'll have this evening. I fancy curry but we're going to friends for a takeaway tomorrow so I'm thinking that curry would be a good thing to have then.

ilovemyteddy · 27/04/2012 18:36

Thanks for the exercise advice. Will investigate options over the weekend Thanks

WillieWaggledagger · 27/04/2012 18:47

re pork scratchings the low carb gourmet book uses them as part of a coating for fried chicken (i think the scratchings are crushed and mixed with egg)

mummyduff · 27/04/2012 19:00

willie I'm in heaven Grin

slowlyburningcalories · 27/04/2012 19:29

Crap day. Busy day.

Completely forgot breakfast so ended up eating a crayfish and Mayo tub from waitrose meant for dinner. Lunch was awesome curry at m&s with large salad, I had chicken, aubergine, and paneer. Yes there were onions but as it was my first LC meal out I think I did ok. Dinner is steak with cauliflower.

Have not drunk my 3l of wa ter today and feel so so tired.

LittleFrieda · 27/04/2012 19:53

Oooh thanks for more nibbles recipes.

I was a bit fed up yesterday as I'm a bit of a foody and like to cook, but actually you can make/eat yummy things.

Dinner: homemade burgers (minced beef from waitrose (not lean), finely chopped shallot, lots of chopped parsley - mix together and make into lovely burger shapes and bake in the oven), on a dollop of mashed swede, with brocolli and a side of homemade coleslaw (v finely chop 2 large carrots, finely slice half a small white cabbage, finely shop 1 spring onion and a small bunch of chives, toss in 2 tbsp of Hellman's mayo).

I bought 6 big avocadoes yesterday but none of them is ripe. I was going to make guacamole.

We're going for a picnic to the zoo tomorrow with some friends. Is a low carb picnic even possible? Grin We may rearrange and do something else as weather forecast is horrendous.

ANTagony · 27/04/2012 20:03

You can make snack kebabs, mini sausages, quails scotch eggs but roll in seeds rather than breadcrumbs, satay, asparagus wrapped in Parma ham, pâté on celery, cucumber cups stuffed with spicy stuff.

It's all picky food.

LittleFrieda · 27/04/2012 20:18

ANTagony - thank you. That's really helpful.

Marabou · 27/04/2012 20:22

Oookeyyy, the only things Atkins in the house are books.. I guess I've paid the appropriate fine on the scales for that slip-up Hmm

So found a tape measurer in my ww welcome pack from 3 years ago, I guess at least something good came out of that.

Oh, for exercise, I have a few DVDs from the 10-minute Solutions series. They each have five or six 10-minute sets, which I find quite easy to fit around DS. I have a Pilates one, an Ab-one and something else, I forget..

WizzyBizzy · 27/04/2012 22:34

Thanks for the workout ideas. Is the Shred truly awful? (In a good way!)

GreenEyesAndHam · 28/04/2012 06:27

Good morning all

On my way to the Dales to cheerlead my DH in the Three Peaks fell race- 24 miles up hill and down dale Shock. The boy's not right.

Protein shake for breakfast, I'm loaded up with bottles of water but I'm not drinking until I've checked out the portaloo situation Grin

Have a brill Saturday losers

heartstart · 28/04/2012 08:16

Green eyes enjoy -hope weather ok up there.

I am not a happy bunny started Monday and have put on 1lb so far. Not sure whee I am going wrong

Yesterday

3.5l

B buttered eggs and ham tomato
L flax bread butter, chicken and cucumber
D pork belly, celeriac mash green beans and butter

Walked 2 miles

Rest of week similar with more walking

Jacaqueen · 28/04/2012 08:21

I know official weight in is not until Monday but the scales ssem to have dropped another 2lbs which makes 12lbs off. I have dropped down into the next stone bracket and now weigh 13st13lbs. I can't believe just how well this seems to be working.

I still have a long way to go but I actually feel that I might get there this time. Or at least get further than I have for some time.

MrsNouveauRichards · 28/04/2012 08:34

Good luck to your DH GreenEyes (nutter!)

Despite the weightloss slowing down a lot, I feel slimmer and I think I look taller (wishful thinking perhaps :o )

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 28/04/2012 09:03

Good news, Jacaqueen!

headstart - sorry to hear things aren't working for you. I'd try cutting out the flax bread and seeing if that makes a difference.

Good luck to your nutter DH, GreenEyes! I've done the 3 peaks walk and that was bad enough, never mind running it!

Weightloss on hold as TOM water retention takes hold.

Food diary for yesterday

B - Full fat greek yoghurt with vanilla extract & stevia (sorry Biwi I needed sweetener) - would have had eggs but the dcs have decided a boiled egg with a lump of butter pushed into a soft boiled egg is yummy - I have now bought 36 eggs - so no more running out!
L - Chilli & Butternut squash soup with double cream
D - Aubergine & Haloumi bake with Coriander pesto served with rocket & cherry tomato salad

Currently scanning through all my cookbooks to compiles lists of recipes so I can add variety and interest. Just ordered The Schwarzbein Principle Vegetarian Cookbook - fingers crossed it's a good one - there's a meat version as well, if anyone is interested.

One of the things we struggled with while dieting was to find a way of the whole family eating the same food - dcs have been surprisingly negative about temporarily eating different food to us, so some kind of change was needed.
Everyone will eat low carb meals in the evening - dcs will have the addition of whole foods. They have school lunches which are very heavy on refined carbs. Dh and I will add carbs to our lunch only, depending on weight loss -(addition of beer in the evening for dh) - that way the whole family will be back to eating the same food in the evening as we have always done and dh and I can stick to this new WOE.

BettyBathroom · 28/04/2012 09:33

Wizzybizzy The shred scared the shit out of me - the way people talk about it make it sound really hardcore but it's not - it's like a training session with a personal trainer. You can only do as much as your body allows and as your fitness grows, your input and effort will too!

noddyholder · 28/04/2012 09:59

Have been awol but still low carbing Have lost 5lbs overall but raging pmt and have eaten a mini bounty this morning! Back on track tomorrow. I just 'look' better when i eat like this less knackered.

Thegoddessblossom · 28/04/2012 10:07

Dinner last night was chicken curry with green beans, lots of red wine Blush

According to MFP, yesterday I had 2,483 calories (pork scratchings remember and at least 4 large glasses of red) 45 carbs, 121 grams of fat and 143 of protein. I don't think I've ever eaten that many calories in one day in my life.

B today: greek yoghurt with added single cream.
