So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

"in pinch" = one pinch Blush

flipflopflap · 27/04/2012 12:44

Stayed the same this week, not surprised as I've been terrible with my water intake. But 7lb is a good loss for me so I'm still pleased. I'll be back bootcamping it on Monday as I'm away this weekend. As much as I'm going to try and stick to LCing, it's quite difficult being veggie and eating out, plus I might sneak a treat or two in there (Wine!). Have a lovely weekend everyone.

ilovemyteddy · 27/04/2012 12:45

Can I pick your brains, exercise gurus?

I have done no exercise since starting this WOE; but I have a very physically active full-time job, which means that I walk, on average between six and eight miles a day.

I need to do some exercise to tone up everywhere on my body, but I have a problem with my knee and can't do anything like lunges, or resistance exercises. Gym equipment like a stepper, rowing machine or cross-trainer just results in pain. Swimming, which I love, is also a problem - and the knee can't be fixed Sad I can walk or use a treadmill with no probs.

Any ideas as to what I can do to tone up?

RadioSilence · 27/04/2012 12:55

I have just started doing Callanetics , which is very retro, but is apparently the best way to tone up. It is early days but some people on the style and beauty threads have had great results so I am hopeful.

heartstart · 27/04/2012 12:56

thanks fava, just got out almonds for almond cake and noted expiry date sept 2010 Blush

Thegoddessblossom · 27/04/2012 12:59

L: 2 rashers of bacon, whole bag of tescos leek and cabbage fried in butter, 2 baby bels.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 27/04/2012 13:01

My lunch today:

Choco Liebniz
Wotsits

I don't know what fucking happened. Sad

Thegoddessblossom · 27/04/2012 13:05

RadioSilence - Yoga? Pilates?

Thegoddessblossom · 27/04/2012 13:05

Keeporf - I can't even eat Wotsits when I am not LCing.....gross!

vnmum · 27/04/2012 13:23

I would suggest yoga or pilates too. If you have a gym nearby and can afford membership, they should be able to do a programme for you that takes your injury into account. If you don't want to go to a gym then look at some pilates dvd's. I use winsor pilates, it is off the shopping channels, and i did get it a while back but when I was doing it every day, within a week DH noticed a difference

SharonGless · 27/04/2012 13:24

Getorf don't be sad just try not to eat any more crap today

Has something triggered it?

FourThousandHoles · 27/04/2012 13:24

Mmm I love wotsits, but they have to be proper wotsits, not the cheapo own brand versions which are cack.

Interesting stuff about body shape - I am 16st but don't look 16st - I have a very sturdy frame Grin with wide shoulders & hips, thick wrists and ankles and muscular legs (god I sound attractive don't I?) I could quite easily look like the proverbial brick shithouse if I muscled up at all. As it stands, if I lose a bit of weight and tone rather than build muscle I could be a fit and healthy hourglass size 14 - any less and I start to look a bit gaunt and appear to be hanging from my collarbones.

I am getting rubbish with water. May set a reminder on my phone every hour - DRINK

vnmum · 27/04/2012 13:26

this is about Mari Winsor
and this is where you can buy some of her stuff. It would seem the shopping channel aren't selling it anymore but might be some on ebay

ShirtyKnot · 27/04/2012 13:28

DOn't worry Getorf, just stop there though. xx

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 27/04/2012 13:32

I don't know why I ate them, I just got distracted.

Went into the fridge for pate and little gems = saw the Choco Liebniz.

DD had a pack of wotsits = I stole them asked her for them.

Nothing's wrong. I am just weak. That seems to happen a lot - I drop a few lbs and the pixies in my head want to celebrate (with chocolate and cripsps).

Marabou · 27/04/2012 13:32

I'm up 1.2kg in two days Shock!!

Why?!? I've been eating the same:(.. I don't know if it's fluid, maybe I'm not drinking enough. I'm supposed to drink 3l/day with my weight I think and I only manage about 2.5 or so.. Will try and up the water.. Gutted:(..

WizzyBizzy · 27/04/2012 13:33

Afternoon! Well, my new scales are clearly not calibrated with my old ones and I've cheated a bit this week too and I am now back up to 9st9 (2 lb up weight on old scales yesterday am). I'm going to be super good for the next few days and hopefully see another fall. Really want to get to 9st by start of June. I feel I can maintain a 9st weight as its where I've been most of my adult life. I've not done any real exercise while on boot camp as I'm at home with 2 young kids so no time (husband works long hours so can't go to gym in evenings either) and have done less than my usual amount of running around with them and pushing bloody heavy buggy outside because weather has been so awful. I'm going to try and get into something though to ensure I tone up again and get rid of the awful muffin top. What would people recommend?

My mum and I are exactly the same build - very slim frame and carry all excess weight right around the middle. She was an old size 8 until well after she'd had two children (grrr) and I know from photos that she was skiiiiiiny. Way skinnier than an 8 today. But then she went through her 20s having only a black coffee and a cigarette for lunch Hmm. She's a bit bigger now (10/12) but in amazing shape for her age (nearly 70) and interestingly enough she has always been an advocate of including natural fats in your diet and has been very derisory about low-cal diets and she thinks margarine is the food of the devil! Having said that she does eat quite a lot of potatoes and bread.

Today:
B: egg mashed with butter with an oopsie roll
L: Salad with parma ham and an oopsie roll (have finished these now, so no more!) and a bit of cheese
D: will be roast chicken with veg tbd. Think we have some fennel left. Cabbage. Not sure will have to dig about in the freezer. Ocado delivery tomorrow!

ohforfoxsake · 27/04/2012 13:51

According to my googling, Vodka, Lime and Soda has no carbs. Is this true?

I'm out tonight and was planning on drinking sparkling water. This could change that.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 27/04/2012 13:53

If you have lime quarters and/or lime juice. The fact is that most bars will give you lime cordial which will bugger things up.

ohforfoxsake · 27/04/2012 13:57

I could stomach vodka and soda I guess Smile

BettyBathroom · 27/04/2012 13:57

Last week my mil brought out a size 14 A-line skirt from the 1970's. It fitted me around the waist perfectly - my waist is 26inchs, which for many brands is a size 8. Shock

Thegoddessblossom · 27/04/2012 13:58

I have lost 2 pounds since Wednesday. Grin Been less of a pig with portions and no berries.

RadioSilence · 27/04/2012 14:00

It is very like yoga and pilates Goddess- slow deliberate movements not leaping about like a sweaty loon. The inch loss is supposed to be spectacular, which can only be a good thing.

ANTagony · 27/04/2012 14:01

marabou I find my weight varys by as much as 5lb depending on what time of month it is. Do you monitor your weight all the time is there usually a monthly fluctuation?

I'm determined to find something big enough to fit around my waiste and hips to measure them and then on no loss weigh ins I can plot my inch loss so not feel so despondent.

Marabou · 27/04/2012 15:01

ANTagony yes I think my weight fluctuates quite a lot, probably 1-2kgs in a week up and down. I had just thought somehow that with the initial weightloss being mainly fluids, I would have passed that phase. I'm still in early days (about 2 weeks in this WOE) and I was down to 84kg from 86.2kg on Tuesday. I thought after the initial weight loss you might plateau for a bit and I was prepared to face that, but not putting on weight Confused..

Anyway, I do think I'll start measuring myself regularly too and hopefully when the weight fluctuates I will still see the inches come off..
