So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

I have been wanting to ask about heights etc! I am 5 ft 6 and currently 10 st 4 which is bmi of 23.6 - target weight of 9 st which is bmi of 20.something
Currently wearing size 12, some of which getting a bit big
Pre kids I fluctuated between 8 and 10 stone for most of adult life

Livelongandprosper · 26/04/2012 23:34

I am 5ft 1. Weight tends to go on evenly although I do have enormous norks - 32JJ. They seem to have deflated somewhat since bootcamp began but that still leaves them pretty big and I get grooves in my shoulders where my bra straps go.

I should be in bed as have to get up at 4.30 am but have just done pub quiz. Came 14th out of 15. Oh dear. Right, I must go to bed so goodnight everyone, see you tomorrow

BettyBathroom · 27/04/2012 06:58

Forgot to post yesterday's meals

B boiled eggs
L leek & squash soup
D Tofu stir fry

Snacks: cheese, nuts & yoghurt

Weighed in this morning - up 0.6kg, think it's TOM water retention, it's the first bounce I've had since the beginning of boot camp. Still under my target though.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/04/2012 07:11

Morning Brew

FauxFox · 27/04/2012 07:22

Good morning - final bootcamp weigh in for me this morning - 10stone12 - that's 13lbs off since the start - amazing!

Thanks so much BIWI you are indeed a guru of wonder Grin

I'm going to have a couple of days of following the main no bread/pasta/pots etc but relaxing on wine/nuts/berries etc then get back into it on Sunday/Monday so i'll check in then and see how BIWIs Bootcamp Light thread is doing!

Well done everyone! You all rock!!

MrsNouveauRichards · 27/04/2012 07:32

Wow, 13lbs!! Well done!

Not sure how I'm going to continue tbh. I am going to avoid bread, pasta and potatoes for the long term though, as I can see I don't need them as a daily thing. The kids and DH really like making (and eating) pizza, usually we would just split the pizza and eat that, but I think next time I will have a small piece with a huge salad. I don't want to 'ban' anything longterm, but just avoid generally I think.

Sorry for rambling on, trying to get my head in order!

BettyBathroom · 27/04/2012 07:41

Wow Faux that's an amazing loss! Weekend of boozing coming up for me too - always, but no food indulgences, I hope.

SharonGless · 27/04/2012 07:41

I have a headache Blush

Went for dinner at mil had my tandoori mix grill.

However I also had three vodkas with slimline tonic and two small glades of red wine.

Bollocks- I was doing so well

SharonGless · 27/04/2012 07:42

Double bollocks- just realised I ate onion bhajis too. How many carbs in them?

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 27/04/2012 08:20

Don't obsess about it, Sharon - it's done. Just drink plenty of water and make sure you have a really strict day today.

Faux - that is brilliant! Grin

vnmum · 27/04/2012 08:25

wow, fauxfox that is a fab loss.

With regard to size etc, I am 5ft4 and just recently got into a size 10. I personally know I am still carrying excess fat for my frame (I have small wrists apparently indicating a small frame). I also bear in mind that clothes sizes seem to have got bigger and also that my shape has changed alot since doing this diet and the gym. I am the same weright now as when I got married 10 years ago but I am actually slimmer in shape. I was alot lighter when I was 18 -20yr old and struggled to get in a 10 then, was always a 12. There is no way I would get in an 'old' size 10 at the moment

Still no birds landing in this house, none since tuesday

mummyduff · 27/04/2012 08:51

wow fauxfox thats amazing!

I haven't weighed myself today, as woke up with a very poorly tummy Sad

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 27/04/2012 08:52

Ah yes, the dreaded 'vanity sizing'! A size 10 nowadays is definitely bigger than it would have been 20-30 years ago. I remember buying size 11 jeans (not that you seem to be able to buy in-between sizes these days!) when I was at university, aged 19. I would have been 8 stone dripping wet then!

OP posts:
BettyBathroom · 27/04/2012 09:05

I'm 5ft 8in, bought my first pair of size 8 jeans yesterday - but they were from M&S - so that would be at least a size 10 elsewhere. I'm very curvy thunder thighs so don't look at all skinny.

londonlottie · 27/04/2012 09:59

Betty - I'm 5'8 and I refuse to believe that it's even possible to be a size 8 and curvy at the same time at that height! I'm gunning to get down to a size 12, which in my eyes is thin-but-curvy... Hmm

heartstart · 27/04/2012 10:17

Pleeeeeeeeease can someone post me to the flax bread recipe

LittleFrieda · 27/04/2012 10:29

Morning. I've managed to persuade DH to join me low-carbing. He said he felt really weak running this morning: but surely it can't be the diet as he's only had one v low carb meal (dinner last night). Grin

ohforfoxsake · 27/04/2012 10:32

Tough day today. Day 3 of being confined to barracks with DD1 who is ill and off school. Took her on the school run and she was crying she felt so poorly Sad so its another day on the sofa, with the heating on, trying to resist the lure of a heavily buttered bagel. The energy and sense of wellbeing I've had since bootcamp kicked in seems to have left me too.

I'm off out tonight too, so if I break the bootcamp now, it'll all turn to shit later. Thankfully I had a pleasant surprise on the scales this morning (11.9.8 making a total loss of 10 pounds) so I am clinging onto that.

Hepsibaaah · 27/04/2012 10:56

heartstart I think the flax bread recipe is the same as the almond and coconut cake? Found This on a google search anyway.
Made some last week in muffin cases, they were yummy!

vnmum · 27/04/2012 11:08

just done a 50min kettlebell dvd. OMG, I have found muscles i didn't know I had. Not done kettelbells in over a year and boy can I tell. I am dripping, more than i do after the gym. Can highly recommend.

littlefrieda It is possible it is the diet with your DH. If his body is used to running with carbs in his system then after a low carb meal last night he will have been eating into his carb reserves (glycogen) over night and during his run. His body will not yet have switched to fat burning mode and will be in the inbetween stage where it is using the last of the glycogen but not yet able to access fat stores for energy adequately. He may well find he struggles abit with exercise for the first few days to a week but once his body has fully switched to fat burning and as long as your DH doesn't cheat it well get better and then he will feel the energy that this WOE gives you.

BettyBathroom · 27/04/2012 11:08

Londonlotte My vital statistics are 36 - 26 - 36, that's classic hourglass/curvy , my boobs are 30E - my thighs still rub together when I walk. And the size 8 for all that it flattered me, I was not deluded, it was Marks & Spencers and not true to size, I am a 10/12 elsewhere, depending on the cut if I can get it over my thighs! Smile

heartstart · 27/04/2012 11:26

Thanks Hepsibaah - will give it a go

vnmum · 27/04/2012 12:03

I think the thing with dress sizes/weight etc is that everyone carries weight differently. Also we do have to contend with vanity sizing etc but also people have different bone structure etc.

I think it is more important to go off how you look and feel than what the scales say. My ultimate goal on the scales is 9st. I haven't weighed that since I was about 18 so it is probably unrealistic of me to think I will get down to it but if i got to 9st 7 and liked how i looked and, more importantly for me, my body fat % was low enough then I would be happy to stick at that weight. This is very relevant to those who do resistance exercise. I think body composition is a better way to look at it than just weight. For example, if you were shown a picture of a muscley bloke and a picture of a bloke with a huge beer belly, both the same height, most people would probably assume the beer belly guy was the heaviest. In this example, they were both the same weight and BMI, but their body composition was totally different. That is why BMI should be taken with a pinch of salt. It doesn't take into account body composition. When I was at school, a boy in my class who did alot of weights, tried to join the police. He failed the mediacl because according to BMI, he was obese. He was shorter than me, but he was not fat, he was all muscle. we were all surprised at the result.

I did weight watchers to lose weight for my wedding 10 years ago, didn't do much exercise and am the same weight now as I was then. The difference is that my body composition has changed alot more with this WOE and incorporating exercise. I actually wore the top off my wedding dress at christmas for a ball and it was loose, where as at my wedding it was snug. I even have a picture I'm looking at now of me on my wedding day, with no collar bones. I have collar bones now. I also have a pair of jeans and a top which I was so pleased to squeeze into just before my wedding, they are now loose on me (Blush for admitting to still having clothes after 10 yrs, they are my 501's though).

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that this WOE changes your body composition more than low cal/low fat. Also if you add in resistance exercise to tone muscle, which in turn boosts metabolism, your body shape would change. If I hadn't have been exercising I wouldn't be wearing size 10 now, even at this weight, I probably would have been a 12/14.

It's a shame we didn't use digital cameras 10 years ago as i'm sure I have some photos of me on honeymoon (so at the same weight as I am now) which would show the difference in body shape and composition between low cal/low fat (WW) and LC. But that would mean I'd have to put my recent progress pics of me in a bikini (take some evry month to see the changes Blush). Not sure I'm ready for that Grin

sorry for essay
Jumps of soapbox and hopes people can make sense of my ramblings

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 27/04/2012 12:17

I totally agree vnmum. Exercise + weight based exercise means I am starting to look a lot better now at 34 than when I was in my mid 20s, intermittently followed a low cal diet and ran all the time. I never bother now to do cardio (I loathe it anyway).

The thing about weight and height is that everyone carries weight differently. I am 6 feet tall - however I have a very small build and any weight I put on shows really easily and I look overweight.

Also vanity sizing - I am supposedly an 8 but I don't believe it for a second. It's not like the 8 of old. I remember when my gran died a few years ago, she was always a 12-14, and had some old clothes from the 70s and 80s - the 12s were tiny and more like an 8 today. And I agree that you can be an 8 without being stick thin - like betty I have pretty hefty thighs and bum, you would certainly not class me as skinny.

Anyway I lost another lb, am 10.5 today.

Fava · 27/04/2012 12:37

Heartstart
this is the flax bread I baked yesterday (I only made 1 egg worth). I used olive oil and much much less salt, in pinch in 1 egg mix.
