So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

Yes, you're right of course. As always. I think its really easy to get caught up in the whole losing weight part. I keep reminding myself that I feel in general better really especially now that I have er, turfed one out Grin. I'm getting back into proper exercising now I don't feel as shit as I did and hopefully, by BabyTwit's birthday at the end of June I'll be doing up those trousers that have eluded me since I had DD. SIX years ago. (They're do-upable but tight)

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 16:31

slowlyburning - fillet steak, with a lovely green salad?

OP posts:
vnmum · 26/04/2012 16:44

has anyone any ideas for a sauce to go with salmon, not hollandaise though? I have limited ingredients but do have most herbs and spices, some philly, double cream.

slowlyburningcalories · 26/04/2012 16:46

Fillet steak tomorrow night :) with broccoli and cauliflower :) :)

I need something to nibble - to replace my Thursday evening snack. Wondering about king prawns with garlic mayo...

ilovemyteddy · 26/04/2012 16:50

Oi Shirl you cunt!!

My friend has just given me a pair of size 12 jeans. I'm 13st 8lb FFS. I can't even get them up my legs Shock Grin

LackaDAILYcarb · 26/04/2012 16:58

Waitrose dinner for 2 is quite low carb friendly this week, as there is a salami platter or squid rings in lime and chili among the starters, some salads and undressed veg for the sides, and a lamb leg thing or steak with peppersorn sauce in the mains....I didn't look at the puddings

We're having the squid followed by lamb, and I got some potato dauphinoise for DH, but I'll just be having buttery veg. And I got the last celeriac in the shop!

would celeriac dauphinoise work?

Talking of stalls I have just looked at my graph

I started in January at 12.3. I dropped a lot of weight in the first month and by the first week of Feb I was 11.3. Then it took two weeks to drop a pound to 11.2. I then dropped to 10.12 and stayed between 10.12 and 10.11 for 5 weeks. I then dropped to 10.9 and stayed there (or a pound up or down) for 3 weeks. I have been around 10.7 or 10.6 for the past 2 weeks.

What I am trying to say is that long stalls I think are part and parcel of this whole WOE. It is really frustrating but ultimately I have stuck around my 'drop' weights and have not (even with cheats) put weight back on for a significant time.

Plus, also I know I could have lost 2 stone a lot quicker than in 4 months if I had calories counted - I could have just eaten 1000 cals a day and dropped the weight really quickly. The difference I think with this is that I have lost fat and not wasted muscle. I have been thinner than this before but also was untoned - doing this and working out (which is what you are doing shirl) means that I have lost weight very slowly but look 100 times better I think that if I had just cal counted and not done any exercise at all.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 26/04/2012 17:02

I have eaten dirty food today btw. Matteson's sausage. God knows what is in that but it was lovely (low carb processed albeit delicious shite Grin)

LackaDAILYcarb · 26/04/2012 17:07

Oooooh, I've just won the £100 John Lewis voucher in the asthma survey draw :o
I shall be saving that for an outfit for my nephews wedding in July, when I am at least 2 stone lighter Wink

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 26/04/2012 17:09

Well done lack - that;s great! Have you heard anything from your interview btw?

LackaDAILYcarb · 26/04/2012 17:10

actually that's only 2 months away....maybe one stone Hmm

LackaDAILYcarb · 26/04/2012 17:12

Next week KeepOrf, as the remaining candidates are up on Tuesday (if they have had a week and a half longer to prepare I will be most put out as I only had six days). But, five candidates and more than one post....I'm hopeful :)

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 26/04/2012 17:15

God how horrible to wait so long though.

SharonGless · 26/04/2012 17:31

Evening all! on the way home from work after another long day I haven't got my usual headaches and tiredness.
shirl please don't go the whole point of the chat thread is so that we support one another we are all going to have good weeks and bad weeks and I certainly am
In it for the long haul. You may have missed my post the other night when I have sad about previous diets. Because I usually start exercising at the same time my body hold on fat in fact if you read that link that MNP did, it says that is how our bodies are designed

SharonGless · 26/04/2012 17:33

Brilliant LAck and good luck for next week. Mil birthday so having takeaway curry but I am having tandoori mix with lots of salad

LackaDAILYcarb · 26/04/2012 17:33

they were full of apologies about it. I would have waited till next week if it gave me more time to prepare!

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 17:59

I realised this afternoon that although my weight is higher than I wanted it to be at this stage, I am definitely wearing clothes 'better' than I feel I should be, IYSWIM. I have a little baggy bit underneath my t-shirt, under my boobs and above my belly button that used to be filled with a roll of fat! Although it's still not gone, I am definitely looking much slimmer.

And my new size 10 jeans that I bought 2 weeks ago are already too big ...

OP posts:
BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 18:00

.... which must be as a result of the exercise I think; muscle is heavier than fat, and as I've been going to the gym at least twice a week since I started this on 6 Feb, I think I can allow myself to believe that I must be more muscular than before!

OP posts:
JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 26/04/2012 18:11

didnt weigh in today as I forgot. And I have now obviously scoffed allowed food so will try to remember tomorrow.

I know what you mean about clothes fitting better biwi I have clothes too big, clothes that look better on and I feel better in myself.

Twit · 26/04/2012 18:15

Have had two 'eagles'. I feel another may hatch later Shock. To prove I'm eating enough greenery it was greener than normal.

Blush Grin

FGS I wouldn't share this with anyone else yet I feel the need to overshare here. Enjoy!

This is rapidly becoming similar to the ante-natal threads, eagerly awaiting news. Instead of a birth thread a turd thread.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 26/04/2012 18:16
Grin

Do you feel better for it, though?!

OP posts:
GreenEyesAndHam · 26/04/2012 18:25

God I'm so hoping for an eagle tonight. Maybe that's a little optimistic though, perhaps a kestrel. Or a peregrine falcon.

Twit · 26/04/2012 18:37
Grin

yup, still not weighing meself yet though

Good luck Greeneyesandham with your birdwatching. Wink Let's hope it isn't a wren Shock

GreenEyesAndHam · 26/04/2012 18:44

Thank you Smile

Don't worry, I'll let you all know Grin

vnmum · 26/04/2012 18:51

I know wehat you mean about clothes fitting better too. I got some size 10 skinny jeans a month or so ago and within weeks they are now saggy arsed and I can pull them down without unfastening. Not sure I would get in an 8 yet though so hanging fire on buying new ones just yet.

Also, even though I've been whinging about not losing this week, today I definately feel and look slimmer but nothing showing on scales so I would second it must be the gym
