So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

What can I eat? Not just feeling snacky, but actually hungry.

I have posh chocs calling me (argh!)

WizzyBizzy · 24/04/2012 20:34

Evening all. I think everyone is doing really well - even with the odd bit of cheating and where the losses are less. Everyone here has committed and is keeping going - that's amazing and the results will come through in the end, but everyone is different so of course some people will lose at different rates than others. And the level of support that everyone is providing is fantastic.Keep going ladies!

I have had a good day today. The children have been on good form, which makes life easier (so less inclined to feel like a pick-me-up) and I had my first comment that I'm looking slimmer Grin. Also I am finally not finding myself needing snacks. I did have a bit of cheese today, but only because DS disgarded it and I hate wasting food!

So, today:
B: 2 eggs mushed in a cup with butter and a chunk of cucumber
L: Goats cheese, broccoli and bacon salad with mayo
S: gouda babybel
D: a tiny handful of kale crisps (made for DH who was ravenous while I cooked) and then baked salmon with roasted fennel and red pepper, and some asparagus fried in butter. It was lush. I might have a bit of full fat yogurt in a bit.

DH has confirmed that he is loving this WOE (he is not LC-ing himself) as mealtimes are so much more interesting now. (And I don't keep sending him out to buy chocolate after dinner!).

flipflopflap · 24/04/2012 20:39

Good day today I think, didn't feel like snacking all day, until I fell behind and realised I wouldn't be able to eat dinner until 7.30, so ate a babybel before I put DS to bed.

B: Veggie sausages with mayo
L: Egg salad with olives and green beans and dressing.
S: Babybel, coffee with milk
D: Thai veg curry.

Not craved anything sweet in days, which is good, but I don't feel in Ketosis, I thought maybe the little bit of pasta on sunday had kicked me out, but surely by now I'd be feeling the carb flu I felt this time last week?

Creamtea1 · 24/04/2012 20:50

Getorf - sorry been at work today so no chance to post. Starting weight 10.7, weigh in end last week 10.5 and that weight still stands today. Pah a paltry 2 lbs :(

Thegoddessblossom · 24/04/2012 21:13

wow pork belly rocks. Had three strips with loads of leeks cabbage spinach all cooked in butter courtesy of DH.

MFP says I've had about 50 carbs today, but I did have raspberries and blackberries I had at lunch.

Stuffed. The food I am eating is so delish.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 21:13

2lbs is still 2lbs! 4 packs of lard.

Felt really snacky today, feel I ate too much...must be ramping up for the TOM.

Exercise - only managed a 4.5km run this morning - too cold & too wet.

B - 2 boiled eggs
L - Left over cheesecake with chilli & garlic brocolli
D - Paneer masala with spinach & coconut with cauliflower rice

S - Cheesecake (finally polished it off), brazil nuts & hazel nuts

Creamtea1 · 24/04/2012 21:22

I know Biwi - not disheartened, am in the run up to TOM too so feeling ggrrrrrrrrr
As someone else mentioned earlier, this is the way I eat now - not a temp diet. It's easy to adjust even if dh wants carbs - I'm really happy with eating like this.
More calorie counters at work going on today about how can you possibly eat cheese and think you can lose weight? Idiots. The whole world brain washed by high fat propaganda.

Also, had a poo today without any supplements taken - cheer! Must be the water quantity or my new coffee liking.

teaandthorazine · 24/04/2012 21:23

Oh. My. God. Am completely stuffed. Dinner was pork belly, cooked for 4 hours with fennel, coriander and sage. The crackling was AMAZING (even if I do say so myself Grin). We had it with celeriac dauphinoise (with blue cheese, fabulous), broccoli and I did some peas for the others but I didn't have any. My mother, who never compliments my food, said it was delicious, and 8-year-old ds wolfed it down!

As for pudding... a word of warning. I did the choc mousse from the IPD book. It was lovely but incredibly rich. I think the amounts in the book would do for two people, not one. I had some blueberries with it to cut through the richness but still feel a weeny bit nauseous tbh! I feel as if I don't need to eat again for a week.

Radio LOL @ Nutella being low GI - is that really true?

Wizzy - what are the kale crisps?

encyclogirl · 24/04/2012 21:24

Folks, I'm in week 4 now and feel totally bullet-proof snackwise. Last week notsomuch. I think my body is finally happy with 3 squares a day. So if you're still snacky, don't fret it will subside.

I have never felt so determined about a WOE in my life, and, to paraphrase the Life of Brian...I should know, I've followed a few!

I always thought I was destined to always be slightly dumpy on a good day, and just plain fat on a bad one. Well guess what? I'm changing my bloody destiny.

Stick with it bootcampers. We're flying here Grin

SharonGless · 24/04/2012 21:26

Mrs nouveau how much water have you had o drink today? Sounds like it could be dehydration? Nice cup of green tea?
What food what have you got in? Salami rolled up with cream cheese? Cheese and celery? Pâté and cucumber?

Creamtea1 · 24/04/2012 21:28

STOP THE PRESS
hairy bikers clafoutis (apols spelling)
4 eggs
Double cream
Creme fraiche
Sugar (Splenda/stevia etc)
For the batter
Pour into flat dish and sprinkle in raspberries
Bake for ??? Missed that bit!
Post bootcamp pud??

SharonGless · 24/04/2012 21:33

I am really chuffed with my eating tonight. Went out for DS tea and I had ribs and chicken which should come with fries but I asked for salad instead. Am absolutely stuffed too. I also refused birthday cake saying I wasn't hungry. I really didnt want any.
vnmum I use food as a reward/pick me up/ comfort
I had a shite day today for a number of reasons. I allowed children to have chocolate today as it is DS birthday and nearly weakened as in the past I always would have. I really thought about the effect of eating the chocolate and decided it really wasn't worth it

heartstart · 24/04/2012 21:42

Only day 2 for me

B egg and asparagus
L mackerel salad with mayo
D Thai green curry from recipe thread with leeks and mushrooms
Full f yoghurt and berries and flaxseed

3 l water feeling pleased with myself Grin

MrsNouveauRichards · 24/04/2012 21:59

Sharon - I actually haven't drunk enough today I don't think, and I have picked at a couple of things I shouldn't have. I had a babybel and half of a posh choc.

Need to be a bit stricter tomorrow, when I have been strict I haven't needed to snack.

I have found Pottermore is good as a snack deterrent :o

Hepsibaaah · 24/04/2012 22:02

Not a bad day for me, but ended in torture watching the HB's bakeation....

missed B
L - prawns, salad, mayo
D- was using up half-open items, so mix of bacon, chick thighs and two manky sausages fried with leek, boiled up some cabbage and broc and plonked it on that; sounds vile - tasted ok!

made a mousse with some sugar-free jelly and cream whipped together but could only manage half - it was too sweet for me Shock never thought that would happen!

And am wondering just how many MNr's there are on this diet in RL; searched two sains and a waitrose for celeriac but ALL sold out??!

ShirtyKnot · 24/04/2012 22:02

YES,YES,YES Creamtea1 - and did you see? They made HOMEMADE butter.

I love the hairy bikers.

So, today I have upped my vegetables a bit and had some tomatoes with my lunchtime salad - EXCITING!

Breakfast - 2 x boiled eggs
Lunch - Chicken Mayo, salad leaves, cucumber, celery, 6 x cherry tomatoes, avocado.
Dinner - Salmon, courgette, spinach and green beans.

I've fiddled about with my spreadsheet (I have a weird spreadsheet) and it appears I've not been having 20g carbs (I know it's not necessary on Bootcamp, but I kind of think it's part of the reason for my non loss) so..more veg for me - YAY!

FourThousandHoles · 24/04/2012 22:08

I have had wine (I know I know, sorry BIWI)

But

But

Normally after a glass of plonk I feel snacky, and tonight I don't, at all.

Dinner was a carbonara type thing with chicken and pancetta, but instead of tipping the sauce over pasta I tipped it over broccoli and cauli, and very nice it was too.

Sorry I'm pissed rubbish at remembering names so I can't remember who was feeling ill upthread, but just wanted to say that omelettes and so forth made me feel really queasy last week, I think the change to fairly rich food from my usual branflakes type diet upset my stomach. The only thing that fixed me was time I'm afraid, but 9 days in and I have stopped feeling sick all the time.

FourThousandHoles · 24/04/2012 22:09

I heart the Hairy Bikes but have ignored them tonight in favour of Barca v Chelsea. Sounds like I did the right thing.

ShirtyKnot · 24/04/2012 22:17

They did do some spectacular brioche.

But we can totally make homemade butter and eat it all up nice

MariaCallous · 24/04/2012 22:26

Evening All!
Still hanging in there today. Worst of bug over, small cheat of 3 mini eggs today. Feeling really tired but as I know it's not sugar based I know it's the tail end of my virus. Funny that this WOE seems to make me feel more in touch with my body rhythms.
Off to bed methinks.

Lovecat · 24/04/2012 22:34

Evening all!

I've got a confession again - am an idiot. SIL came round having a crisis, the ice cream van tootled outside, DD asked for one and we got SIL one to cheer her up... and it was our lovely ice cream man who we haven't seen for 10 months, he's been really ill. We were chatting and I mentioned that the replacement ice cream man was rubbish because he didn't do lemon ice, he insisted on giving me a free cone of it and I'd taken a big bite before I copped onto myself... gaah! (it was bloody lovely though).

Egg & bacon for breakfast
Marinated mushrooms & courgette strips with chicken breast for lunch
Duck breast in red wine sauce (Atkins recipe, 6g) with broccoli and green beans for dinner.

Need more water....

Creamtea1 · 24/04/2012 22:41

Shirty - I totally heart them too and the butter was looking mmm! And the brioche yes...I think I shall make the clafoutis next week (ssshh) I'm sure it will taste better than MiM flax pap!

WizzyBizzy · 24/04/2012 23:12

tea Kale crisps:

Take shredded kale, put in large bowl, toss in olive oil and some salt (coarse is best). Spread out on grease proof paper on baking tray. Put in hot oven for about 8 minutes - you are aiming for green, going brown...not brown going black! Out of Oven, allow to cool. Voila! Nice as a snack or to add texture to salad. Even as a side dish I guess.

Tip: I keep portions of frozen kale in freezer. You can toss from frozen - so no need to defrost frost. Very quick snack.

Will post to recipe thread tmrw.

MNP · 24/04/2012 23:39

Whizzy sounds like crispy seaweed. Will give it a go as we both love it in Chinese restaurants.

Found this earlier which made a lot of sense.
