So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

LackaDaisy - the other thing to take into account is that we are only just 10 days into this WOE. Because of your medication it may be that you need a bit longer for things to really get going for you.

There's a wave of enthusiasm going on here, because so many people are seeing results so quickly. But for those who aren't, or for those who are losing only small amounts, the almost-constant weighing/reporting of results can be frustrating. I've 'only' lost 3lbs, but I'm delighted by this. I'm 3 pounds further towards my target, after only one week, which makes me very happy. Yes, I'd love to have lost 8, 9 or 10 pounds, like some have, but it would have been unrealistic for me to expect that given my current weight, and the fact that I've been low carbing for three months now.

My meds may have something to do with slow weight loss.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 17:38

I've posted this before, but not on Bootcamp. A piece from the Carblife site about how much water we should be drinking. I know that the Bootcamp rules say 2 litres - but you might want to re-think this:

"Water.
Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be

Weight-----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour."

Lackadaisy I'm in this for the long haul as I am aiming to lose 77lb altogether so I would be happy to be your 'buddy' if you want someone to sound off to privately. I, too, am envious at the posters who have dropped loads of weight already, particularly the ones who already weigh less than my ultimate target of 10 and a half stones Envy Grin

My weight has come off steadily, but with some blips and weeks where I haven't lost anything. I think the thing is not to feel that you are depriving yourself of things you want to eat, but think of all the yummy things you can eat on this WOE - the recipe thread is great for ideas. I've rediscovered foods like spinach and celeriac, and have no desire to replace my lovely salad and fish/meat based lunches with the pre-packed sandwich, crisps and choc I used to eat. I'm sleeping better, am full of beans (not literally!) and don't want to snack at all. I'm looking at replacing the things I used to eat with healthier alternatives (the flax based pizza recipe on the thread is To Die For!)

I've been lucky in that I haven't missed bread, spuds, fruit, chocolate etc because I am excited about all the new things I can make and eat - most of which are so quick to make. So for a foodie like myself, I feel that I can still be creative, but just with different ingredients.

Just stick with it, and maybe check out with your GP about your medication to see if it's hindering you.

Thanks for the link BIWI. I don't take them every day, only for breakthrough pain, so maybe the stop/start nature is causing things to go a bit wonky. My joints feel so much better though, I can probably stop taking them altogether and see how I go.

And, I am thoroughly enjoying the food that I'm eating, so if it takes me a little longer, then so be it.

I just had steak strips with mushrooms and courgettes in garlic butter with a tbsp of goat cream cheese added, with half a head of buttered brocolli on the side. I had about three times the weight of veg as there was meat. Does this sound like the right sort of proportions?

Sorry for being on a bit of a downer...probably a sugar crash Blush

Livelongandprosper · 24/04/2012 17:49

I am not feeling so great today.

I took my dad out to be assessed for proper running shoes yesterday (he's 80 and a keen runner) and he bought lunch for me in a pub. I had a mushroom omelette which arrived with half a ton of chips. I didn't eat the chips (I couldn't face having to admit to it on here then having to go through the pain of getting back into ketosis)

However, since eating the omelette I have felt very sick again, just like the first few days of bootcamp. Am now having to force myself to eat because I feel really yukky. What on earth can I do to settle my stomach?

I am using these threads instead of comfort eating, thanks everyone for the chat, the advice and the recipes.

LackaDAILYcarb · 24/04/2012 17:50

cross posted there...thanks teddy Smile

I'll PM you later; I have to go to work now

teaandthorazine · 24/04/2012 17:59

Radio - not exactly like nutella but... not far off, considering!

vnmum · 24/04/2012 18:05

livelong Go your dad! what a fab inspiration Smile
Can you stomach some root ginger sliced and put in hot water to make a ginger tea or something else gingery but low carb?

I have to say I have sometimes felt sick after an omelette, don't know why.

Well the cakes have gone, and not in my stomach, the kids had them as a pudding and I don't fancy the cookies. This is a mass improvement as cakes and chocolate used to be my de stress. I would use my weekly WW points on cake and chocolate so to not even fancy them is astounding. If I do fancy chocolate, it's not milk chocolate that I crave it's 90% dark chocolate, so this WOE really does alter things Smile

I probably won't weigh in on thursday with everyone else, just because it's getting me down to not see a loss so will weigh in on monday after a full week

mummyduff · 24/04/2012 18:06

Hi just had a lovely massive salad with tuna and a little cheese and prepared tomorrows lunch - egg/bacon salad.

I am trying BIWI honest to add more veg/salad Smile Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow x x

MNP · 24/04/2012 18:09

Teddy & Lacka I too have tonne 60lb to lose and feel quiet Envy of those who are shedding loads.

Jacaqueen · 24/04/2012 18:11

teaandthorazine Burgen bread has around 10g carbs per slice. I imagine that Vogel bread will be about the same. Once bootcamp is over you could have a slice 1-2 a week.

Livelongandprosper · 24/04/2012 18:19

vnmum I've got some root ginger, I'll nip out now and try your suggestion thanks!

I'm doing a 10k with my dad early May - he's doing the run and I'm doing the walk Blush

Livelongandprosper · 24/04/2012 18:26

Oh and isn't it weird not to fancy cakes and chocolate after a lifelong love affair with them?

MrsNouveauRichards · 24/04/2012 18:35

Just had a delish dinner. Chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella, mashed butternut squash, buttery leeks and the leftover courgette gratin. I feel full and guilty for feeling so full, despite it all being allowed!

ilovemyteddy · 24/04/2012 18:39

MNP please feel free to PM me too if you want to buddy up. We should start a Long Haulers quiche... Well maybe not a quiche as it's not allowed on LC Grin

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 24/04/2012 18:40

there is half a large bar of caramel in my cupboard - it was singing to me Sunday and Monday - today I am back to not caring in the least, I dont want it.

Today I feel bloated, I know that I havent drank enough water and I am shattered after being up since 4ish this morning, but instead of dipping into carbs as a comfort I have had salad, eggs, meat, cream cheese, chicken - throughout the day and I havent felt very hungry at all.

A tip someone once told me was this, if you feel snackish - and you arent really hungry, after having a glass of water, paint your nails. It takes approx an hour for the nails to dry properly and in the meantime you cant scoff with wet nails. Grin

MNP · 24/04/2012 18:44

Beef stew with minimal carrots, shallot, peas accompanied by shredded cabbage with vinegar and oil sautéed asparagus.

RadioSilence · 24/04/2012 18:49

Well beggars can't be choosers Tea so that will do me! I discovered that Nutella was low GI and gave myself permission to eat it off the spoon. Not sure BIWI will allow that even when the rules are changed next week.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/04/2012 19:16

I can't keep up with all these threads!

MrsNouveauRichards · 24/04/2012 19:16

Better than on a doorstep of bread :o

MrsNouveauRichards · 24/04/2012 19:56

Why am I hungry? Confused

encyclogirl · 24/04/2012 19:58

Dinner was sooooo good.

Left over roast chicken, leeks and mushrooms fried in butter then sloshed a teeny bit of cream and dumped it all over a big green salad.

Took about 5 mins to prepare. Divine!

BerylStreep · 24/04/2012 20:11

Just popping in to mark my place.

Sainsburys had cauliflowers reduced to 19p the other day, and I ended up buying 4! Have just had cauli mash and duck breast with asparagus.

ohforfoxsake · 24/04/2012 20:18

I haven't lost anything for 3 days - that's the problem with weighing yourself every day. I've tried really hard today (not that its been hard). I had kippers for brekkie, a cheese omlet and salad for lunch, turkey mince chilli and salad for tea. And 3 squares of green & blacks dark chocolate with my chamomile tea just now. I am shining my halo now, but I am a bit nervous that if I haven't lost anything tomorrow, it'll get me down.

I've had 20g of carbs today if MFP is correct. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
