So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

Hanging in there. Did have 100ml of plain Soya yogurt last night at 2.1g carbs but it scratched that sweet itch quite nicely.
Just had some cheese and ham as a snack. Dinner later a repeat of yesterdays concoction involving courgettes, shallots, egg and Bacon. Breakfast was Bacon and eggs with mushrooms and tomato - coop had fancy Bacon down from 3.19 to just 85p and its dated 26th April!

smokinaces · 24/04/2012 15:50

Oh and before biwi shouts, I did have lunch - chicken salad with mayo Grin

MNP · 24/04/2012 15:51

Wow, who knew a walk around the supermarket was exercise ;)

MrsNouveauRichards · 24/04/2012 15:59

I have just eaten chocolate.

I have had a shit afternoon, my friend cancelled on me again which kind of threw the afternoon plans out. I had to get 6 horses in from the field in the pissing rain and all apart from one were horrible and bargy.

The worst bit was the chocolate tasted really sweet and horrid and was so not worth it. Grrrrrrr

mummyduff · 24/04/2012 16:17

Afternoon all, I have decided to wait till tomorrow to weigh in and did not make it to the gym today, which is not good, Sad but will work even harder tomorrow morning to compensate.

Hard boiled egg - breakfast
mushroom & cheese omelette with salad for lunch
???? - Dinner Smile
Gallons of water x

Jacaqueen · 24/04/2012 16:33

You might as well wait till Thursday as that is the next official weigh day.

On Sunday I had 3 little squares of Lindt 99% choc. Really hit the spot.

I've just had a few peanuts and a bit of cheese. No idea why. Not really that hungry. So much for no dairy or nuts this week.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 16:36

.... and more veg/salad, mummyduff

It's an interesting experience when you cheat and you're disappointed, isn't it?

Makes you realise that the chocolate you're craving actually isn't that nice. I remember when Wispa bars were brought back and I gorged myself on one. Even though, after the first couple of mouthfuls I was thinking "this is just like sweet wax. And wax is probably nicer"

Because it's the sugar addiction that you're feeding

LackaDAILYcarb · 24/04/2012 16:42

Gawd, this is tough :(

MNP · 24/04/2012 16:42

I miss raisins and apples and satsumas and pineapple.

GreenEyesAndHam · 24/04/2012 16:47

I must admit, when I walk past the fruit bowl I can smell the sweet fruit, and my knees do a little wobble

FourThousand I felt ropey at the start of last week but fine this week. Not amazing or owt, but perfectly fine

smokinaces · 24/04/2012 16:49

I joke about missing cake and crisps and chocolate. But actually I don't.

I do miss grapes and berries though. And nice yogurt. Stuff that thankfully in moderation after bootcamp I can have a little of.

MrsNouveauRichards · 24/04/2012 16:49

Yes just like wax! I think I would enjoy a bit of dark chocolate much more.

Still would murder a bun though :o

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 16:50

What's the thing you're finding hardest, LackaDaisy? Sad

OP posts:
MrsNouveauRichards · 24/04/2012 16:51

Oh yes and last week the smell of a banana made me feel quite peculiar - I really wanted that banana!

RadioSilence · 24/04/2012 16:55

I felt rubbish today. All of the low carb symptoms which should have happened last week seem to be happening now. I had a cup of coffee ( my first in about 2 months) and it did perk me up a bit.

I am still on track but am thinking that when I don't fancy breakfast a protein shake might be a good alternative. Can anyone recommend one that tastes good?

teaandthorazine · 24/04/2012 16:58

I miss really seedy bread, like Vogel's soya and linseed, with a poached egg on top. But once I've reached 10.5 stone I'll have that once or twice a month, maybe.

teaandthorazine · 24/04/2012 17:01

RadioSilence, I've been trying samples from myprotein.com and have just ordered a 1kg bag of the choc nut flavour. I thought they would be rank, tbh, but have been very pleasantly surprised - they're pretty yummy! I find it hard to eat first thing but have found myself looking forward to a shake... weird Smile

LackaDAILYcarb · 24/04/2012 17:02

Just lacking in motivation today after sticking at 2.5lbs...and I faceplanted in a bag of jelly sweeties Blush. And although I only ate a fraction of what I could pack away before, they tasted horrible, and I now feel sick and hate myself for caving in Sad

I was doing so well today too. I was in Tesco, and although I got some sushi for DS2 for lunch, I got myself a little side salad and some smoked salmon/cream cheese appetiser things (total carbs 5.4) and I had had scrambled eggs and crispy bacon for breakfast.

But, I'm struggling with the fact that if I could eat crap and maintain my weight, why is it not dropping off? I have loads to lose, I am lathering on the fat and drinking water. I am eating lots of leafy greens etc...

So, I'm now asking myself, is this WOE suitable for everyone? Are there some people who it just doesn't work for? Am I one of them? And I saw a reference to NSAIDs too. I take three diclofenac daily. Is this maybe slowing me down?

RadioSilence · 24/04/2012 17:04

Thanks Tea . Does it taste like nutella or is that too much to hope for Grin

vnmum · 24/04/2012 17:10

Confession time. I was so pissed off today I went to tesco and bought some cookies and some cream cakes along with some lindt 85% choc and some strawberries. I had planned on introducing the strawberries as I have been LCing since beginning of feb and after reading an article on the atkins site, think I may be better moving onto the next phase. I think that seen as the weight isn't coming off on bootcamp I may aswell have a bit more variety but still keep carbs pretty low.

Do you know what though, I can't bring myself to eat the cakes and cookies. Looks like the kids and DH are getting a treat and I will have strawberries and cream as a sort of cheat if I want one

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 17:19

LackaDaisy - see this re NSAIDs:

forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=120061

I don't know if that helps.

At this stage, ignoring the face-plant (!), you have still lost 2.5lbs. 5 packs of lard.

If you're enjoying the food, and not finding it too arduous, then I would stick with it.

Can you drink more water? If the NSAIDs are causing fluid retention, drinking more water is the best way to deal with that.

But I'm not a doctor/have no medical training so I can't really help you any more re your drugs - and I assume that they are things that you have to keep taking.

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 24/04/2012 17:21

vnmum - what an interesting post! What you're describing perfectly is how we use food for emotional comfort.

If we feel sad/upset/angry, often food is the first thing we turn to for comfort. But why should it be food? Why not buy ourselves a trashy novel, or a good novel, or a magazine, or some new make-up, etc?

But really good that you couldn't bring yourself to eat the 'treat'!

vnmum · 24/04/2012 17:22

If only I had posted what I was thinking of doing before I went. I could have used your suggestions and spent the money on a book or something instead of crap.
