So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

Shoves Shirty and Teddy along and plonks fat arse on the low carb bench of shame...

I have no lurgy as a reason though.

encyclogirl · 24/04/2012 10:41

Brekkie on the go this morning, had to dive into a petrol station and buy 3 rashers of bacon to go. Very nice and a good option if you just can't face protein first thing.

I was awake 90mins by the time I ate and I was starving for it.

Got on the scales this morning. If I lean a bit to the right I'm 9st 13 and a bit. That's a stone in 3 weeks! Mind you, if I lean back I'm still 10, 1. But I take as the a good omen for Thursday.

I am drinking ALL my water though, and I swear it's the difference.

vnmum - no idea about the antibiotics, but it's not impossible that they could affect your weight. I know that painkillers (NSAID - non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) can affect it.

But looking at your food - where is your veg? I'm wondering if you're eating too much protein in relation to your carbs? That was a very, very low carb day by the looks of it. There's actually no benefit to that - and too much protein can cause weight gain, I believe.

drinking at least 2 litres of water a day when you know you have 2 car journeys of 1.5 hours each, makes life interesting. I have just had some odd looks as I stood at the water cooler on arrival at client's site downing 4 cups in a row.....

vnmum · 24/04/2012 11:10

BIWI The tea yesterday was not typical, I usually have a salad for lunch and then veg with my tea but as DH got in late we just made something quick. It was either that or a takeaway and I didn't want to go there. I will cut back on the protein and see if that works. It's just hard trying to keep the carbs down and now the protein and feel full.

I've just had a 2 egg omelette with chorizo and mushrooms, that will probably do me till tea time to be honest. We are due to have chicken curry tonight and I will be having cauli rice. I still can't see how one lower carb but higher protein day could make me gain, but I suppose you never know with this WOE. Might have a small salad as a snack this afternoon to up the veg as I know there will not be too many carbs in the cauli rice, might be some in the sauce though.

I will make changes but if I gain again by monday I don't know what I will do

MNP · 24/04/2012 11:36

Morning.

B:2 salami slices, a laughing cow and 30g big handful raw spinach. 0.75Ltr
L:fried pork chop with veg
D:beef casserole-beef, shallot,carrot with asparagus and cabbage.

SharonGless · 24/04/2012 11:40

Shirl thanks have given myself a good shake and pulled self together.

Have been thinking and I know every time I have done Ww I never lose weight for first two weeks and I always do loads of exercise. The grumpy bitches have always accused me of cheating! I think my body just holds on to fat for a couple of weeks in shock at what I am doing to it then comes off. Maybe that theory coupled with your illness means your body is holding on to fat stocks as thinks you might be I'll again. Stick with it

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 24/04/2012 11:40

Hello everyone.

Firstly, I have just updated the weigh in spreadsheet, results on the weigh in thread. Please can the following let me know their weightloss - I cannae see the weightloss on the other thread, but I know you are all here:

Ledkr
Lemniscate
Creamtea
Jaxteller
Vnmum

I have been very good this week after last week's shenanigans and hot chocolate consumption, and lost 5lbs over the weekend (negating the 3lbs I put on last week, so a 2lb net loss).

BUT last night had to go out to a gourmet night (!) - it was very lovely.

Prestarter: cod and quails egg scotch egg thingy on a pea veloute
Starter: duck terrine. I DIDN'T eat the bread with.
Fish: smoked haddock ravioli with a broad bean foam (poncey but nice)
Main - lamb cutlet with red cabbage and a sweet potato mash (Yes I ate the potato)
Pudding: lemon posset with tuile (ate the lot), chocolate brownie with mango sorbet (ditto).
Petits fours - 6 of 'em. May as well round the evening off.

Bag of tangfastics when I got in (why, god, why?)

Bloody stomach is bloated this morning. Serves me right.

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 24/04/2012 11:42

Oh, and a bag of macadamia nuts. They are so high fat that they are a disaster to eat on a binge day. I can actually see all the fat from the macadamia nuts GROWING ON MY STOMACH AS WE SPEAK.

vnmum · 24/04/2012 12:01

keeporf I didn't lose anything.

ShirtyKnot · 24/04/2012 12:06
MrsNouveauRichards · 24/04/2012 12:20

Well, may as well hang for a sheep as for a lamb :o

Sounds worth it!

TheShapeJaper · 24/04/2012 12:30

I'm finding it really difficult to keep up with the thread, when I get the chance to take a look at it, there's 7 pages and my time is too limited. Feel I'm missing out/looks as though I'm being rude not acknowledging others etc.

Anyway, just wanted to say, thank you so so much to everyone on this thread for the advice and support, everyone is doing brilliantly and it's great to read other peoples experiences and realise just how perfect this WOE really is.

I have just downloaded (from hearing about them here); the Idiot Proof Diet and the cookbook that goes with it and also Escape the Diet Trap by Dr. John Briffa. All from iBooks so on my iPhone and iPad. Looking forward to getting stuck into them!

Also want to say that the recipe thread has been fabulous, I was mainly living on omelettes and salad leaves with ham, cheese mayo etc but since the start of bootcamp, I have been cooking again! So far I've made; BIWI's shepherds pie, the asparagus frittata and broccoli and blue cheese soup. Also, chicken breasts cooked with "allowed" veg and gorgeous sauces. Tonight I'm going to make the salmon and feta bake from ipd book, I cannot wait. I feel as though I'm finally eating properly and the weight is finally falling.

Sorry for the essay, just wanted to say thanks really!

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 24/04/2012 12:43

I feel the same jape - I have hardly been on here for days and have not read the thread properly really.

But everyone has been so lovely and this thread has been a real help, so thanks everyone.

encyclogirl · 24/04/2012 12:53

I keep up either jape But I do try to post at least once a day, and I read everything. Mostly for meal ideas, but to keep me focussed too.

It's working. I haven't cheated or felt the need to cheat at all. This is how I eat now, I can't see why I'd revert to my previous high carb low fat model.

slowlyburningcalories · 24/04/2012 13:22

Thats a first - just realised I haven't eaten lunch. Can highly recommend Ham and poached eggs for breakfast clearly!

teaandthorazine · 24/04/2012 13:29

encyclogirl "This is how I eat now, I can't see why I'd revert to my previous high carb low fat model."

OK, so I've cheated a smidge now and again. But tbh I don't know why, because nothing I cheated with at the weekend was as yummy as the low-carb food (with the possible exception of the chips at the Mermaid Hotel in Rye and I only had one of 'em).

I'm currently eating sardine fillets with creamy coleslaw, lambs lettuce and a dressing of lemon and olive oil. It is delicious. I'd forgotten how much I love sardines.

Right, having said that, am off to make pudding for tonight Grin But it's from the IPD cookbook so it's ok! I couldn't bring myself to put garish packets of sugar-free jelly in my basket (not alongside the spices, oily fish, duck breasts, salad leaves, posh blue cheese, double cream and greek yoghurt, never!) so am going for the choc mousse hehehehe. But I think it'll be vv rich so am making teeny amounts. Will report back...

londonlottie · 24/04/2012 13:32

Going well so far today - bit of a 'non-bootcamp' breakfast of strawberries, greek yog and flaxseed, but the fruit needed eating and can't bring myself to throw them away - they're English strawberries and therefore delicious.

Lunch of cauli cheese soup and chorizo. Exercise the next thing I need to confront, seriously need to get that back into my life.

BIWI - just wanted to say thanks for your advice yesterday - I was feeling so glum about my loss-then-gain over the past few months that I didn't think anyone would be able to cut through it. But you did with your advice to lose the weight first and THEN think about how to maintain. It makes perfect sense and has lodged in my brain as the right way to think about it.

FourThousandHoles · 24/04/2012 13:38

JaxTellar I will see you on 12th May (I'll be the one who looks like she needs a good sandwich).

Protein shake for Breakfast
Spinach with vinaigrette with ham & stilton for lunch, was lovely.

So, I am new to this WOE and will need to be spoon fed on exactly what to do after bootcamp - although tbh I'm doing fine so might do three weeks of it just to give myself a good start before I go to Waitrose and eat cake and drink wine

All of you who were feeling ill last week - how are you feeling now? I was running a high temp over the weekend and was wondering if that was carb flu or a proper illness. Feeling much better this week, although still a bit wimpy on the exercise front - I'm not all that fit but usually I can climb a flight of stairs without trouble and just recently I feel it in my thighs and knees Hmm

KnottyLocks · 24/04/2012 13:49

GetOrf, I need the name of that restaurant immediately please.

NotMostPeople · 24/04/2012 14:15

Afternoon all, glad to see everyone is still going strong. I'm finding that I've got into the swing of it and not feeling hungry or wanting the huge jar of chocs (much). However DH and I are getting a bit bored with breakfast, so I wondered if there are any suggestions other than eggs/bacon?

heartstart · 24/04/2012 14:17
