Ooo yes, The Paulettes, let's get t-shirts!!!!! Grin

LaWobble · 01/05/2012 21:15

[jealous] at those of you in sunny France. Frazzled, this system is all about getting to know your body's signals. He uses something called the 'hunger scale' which is just a scale of 10 stages of hunger from ravenous to stuffed full and all stages in between. PMK says that you are never to go into any of the extreme ends again, so the idea is that you eat when you are quite hungry, and you stop when you are quite full. It does take a while to get the hang of this, but is crucial. If I can do it you can too! (I genuinely struggled to remember ever being properly hungry, as I just used to eat all the time Blush).

can I ask you all, how much exercise are you doing at the mo? I have become slightly addicted to doing workouts (just doing dvd), and am doing them at least 4 times a week. I am also taking the stairs intstead of the lift, running up stairs rather than walking, parking at a far away point in a car park etc etc. It's definitely the cd that has made me do this!!!!! But I'm sure it's the key to my large weight loss over recent weeks.

tb · 01/05/2012 23:57

Don't be jealous LaWobble - here it was sunny for the first time in days, but quite cool. Yesterday it was lashing it down, and the change in pressure has given me sinusitis.

On the bright side, I haven't eaten much due to feeling sick. Grin

ppeatfruit · 02/05/2012 09:40

Yes Morning tb but it's nice to see the Loire filling up properly!! mind you we live nearer the Vienne and that was looking dangerously high yesterdayShock what's yr nearest town?

L.A. I do stretches every day and dancing to the radio before breakfast also house work gardening and walking when I'm here but in london when I don't use a car generally and am on and off P.T. all day and lots of walking the weight drops off too quickly Smile I want to stay a size 10 not smaller I'm too old for haggard Grin I've just remembered what I DON'T do in London Grin Grin Blush I don't go on the compooter!!!!

JustFab · 02/05/2012 10:30

Hello everyone!

I have just had a couple of crispbread crackers with some cheese as I was feeling peckish. I have butternut squash and horseradish soup simmering on the hob for lunch and we are having lamb steaks, potato and parsley wedges and lots of veg for tea. We had been having ready meals for a few weeks - dh's choice, not mine, and it is lovely to be back to cooking from scratch again.

tb · 02/05/2012 12:53

Hi everyone, sunny here but apparently storms tomorrow. Doesn't seem fair, we've not had any really hot weather to produce them.

ppeat - nearest largish town is Brive la Gaillarde, we're about 70km south of Limoges, so our nearest river is the Correze. I'll be in Brive tomorrow afternoon, so will try to remember when we go over the bridge to see how high it is. Where's your nearest town? and how to you split your time between France and London?

Dd is really worried about a friend - he's missing and has left his mobile at home. He was at his dad's and there was a huge row about him taking 2 bottles of expensive champagne, obviously without asking, and then he took off. He's 15, and they all have their brevet coming up next month. Apparently the dad smokes weed, and has introduced his son to it. Not exactly ideal. Just hope he turns up safe - not just for his sake, but also for dd's.

Just had the last of the cake with dh - only a small piece, but filled with lemon curd, so was very light and lemony. Have the cat curled up next to me, with one paw over her eyes, and her feet are twitching, so she's dreaming. Looking forward to my cd's arriving. Might suggest it to dd, too, but will have to pick my moment very carefully.

'Fraid I don't do much exercise, had a fall about a year ago which caused both knees to be sprained, and tore the knee ligaments at the same - fortunately not the cruciate ones, thank goodness. I still have quite a lot of pain with it, and some days are better than others.

We had fromage blanc - the sort you drain to make curd cheese - with chopped shallots, chives and creme fraiche, followed by salmon, mushroom, pepper and sweet potato kebabs with rice, and a kiwi fruit. The starter was like the one they do in at Courtepaille. Then I was offered some of the last of the cake, and decided not to resist, although I didn't 'need' to have it.

JustFab · 02/05/2012 12:58

I am Confused.

I had breakfast, a mid morning snack and a drink of water but by half 12 I was almost feeling weak with hunger. Before I wouldn't always eat breakfast or have a snack yet her I am feeling wobbly even though I have just had some bread and a lovely bowl of home made soup.

I am blaming DD. It just took 2 hours to do her room...

GossipWitch · 02/05/2012 13:27

Oh I have failed miserably, I keep putting it of until I have weighed myself, until I get the book, until I've read the book and still I have failed, (although I still haven't read the book yet,) with a mcdonalds at the weekend and mainly takeaway food constantly, then a chinese the other night, whilst chucking the kids bits of fruit and balanced lunches and breakfasts, when me and the boyf aren't hungry. I don't have the cd, it was supposed to come with book if I brought it new but it was an amazon jobby,I'm planning on reading the book in the next few days, (if i can tear my arse away from WoW).

GossipWitch · 02/05/2012 14:14

But have just read half of the book, and made myself a chocolate spread and peanut butter sarnie, (which was delicious) and could only eat 3 quarters of it before feeling full. I think it may be a start :)

ppeatfruit · 02/05/2012 14:18

Gossip you haven't failed at all you haven't started yet! Grin it's the same when you DO actually start; it takes time to get used to; a lot of us probably all of the 'old school'!! have started and stopped a (few times actually) it's natural and you must NOT beat yrself up about it; be kind to yrself and just start when you're ready it's not a problem Smile

tb You're much further South than us; I s'pose Poitiers is the nearest city to us that you'd recognise! Sounds like a nice meal I must admit that we haven't tried Court Paille; I'm sad that the Fr are putting fast food places and such like shops all over La Belle France (there's soon going to be not much of it left IMO) We had artichokes with lovely garlicky homemade lemon vinagrette for our lunch one is enough for me now!

we go back every month 'cos our L.Os are adults!
justfab You're using up cals. doing housework it's fine to feel hungry it' s normal and natural!

ppeatfruit · 02/05/2012 14:20

Also fab digesting actually USES up energy and calories esp. if nourishing food.

MardyBra · 02/05/2012 14:27

tb. Do you have access to a swimming pool? My knees are pretty buggered up but I find swimming and aquaerobics are helping me at the moment.

tb · 02/05/2012 15:29

I don't really have access to a swimming pool - the house/renovation budget was supposed to include one. It didn't, sadly. We've got the space for one - south-west/south facing back garden, with a pool space between the wash-house - which would make a good pool house, and has water ready for shower/toilet, and the garage. I'm not very keen on indoor ones, and the outdoor ones are only open mid-June - September, which is a shame.

ppeat Courtepaille isn't too fast-foodish, set menus, but their really good point is that they serve continually between 11.30am and about 10pm. So, if you're on a journey and don't fancy a picnic or flunch they're quite handy. The sad thing is that their coupe Courtepaille is no longer on the menu - blackcurrant sorbet, vanilla ice cream, blackcurrants and a good French-style slug of creme de cassis liqueur poured over it.

If you're near Poitiers, yes, that is quite a bit south to where we are. We're in that bit of France profonde that still has 11? 5-course lunches with as much freezing cold red wine as you can drink - at least in our village. It's supposed to 1/4l a head, but we've never been given less than a litre between 2.

GossipWitch · 02/05/2012 17:57

Just had the most delicious spaghetti bolognaise ever, I am full but resisting the urge to go back for a second helping now, just because it was so nice.

Thetokengirl · 02/05/2012 18:53

Hi Everyone

I've not posted for a while and there's pages and pages for me to catch up on.
The gist of the posts seem to be that we are doing well, with the odd hiccup here and there. Obviously why I fit on here as it sounds just like me. Grin
I can't remember exactly when I became a Paulette (great name) but think it was 5-6 weeks ago and in that time I've lost 9 lbs so very very Grin Grin.
I went to put my size 14 trousers on this morning, but they were ridiculously loose, so I put a size 12 pair on. They fitted great around the waist bit tight over my chunky thighs.
Want to lose another 1 - 1 1/2 stone before my holiday in the summer.

Good Pauling everyone.

JustFab · 02/05/2012 19:00

Hi everyone Smile.

Just a thought. I am due on tomorrow. How do I deal with that delight and not start eating crap all day long?

The pain has already started. What joy.

notsurewhyohwhy · 02/05/2012 21:21

Hi everyone,

I have been on this thread before and tries paul mckenna before, sice then i stopped and tried ww. I eat until I feel stuffed and carry on eating. I eat so much chocolate.

For any of you that feel this is working is the main thing listening to the cd?

Last time I was listening to the cd for quite a while and the main difference I noticed was that I wanted to exercise more, and normally exercising more makes me want to eat less crap. So I guess its a good start and will try to listen tonight. Smile

any tips as I really want it to work this time.

BodaciousTatas · 02/05/2012 21:33

Ok got my PMK book and loaded CD on to IPOD.

I hope this works; most people have been very sceptical so far.

Rosylee1976 · 03/05/2012 07:26

Morning

Have been a bit quiet over the last couple of days. I have been busy with work. But, not also had a great couple of days Pauling. It's not that I have been stuffing myself silly, but have had things I should perhaps not have had. Still, did a lot better than I would have done in the past, so all in all not a train wreck. Also, had not listened to the CD in a few days and wondered if that had an effect as well on the motivation front. I have never really put as much stock in the CD as others have, but now I am wondering, if maybe I should have. Anyway, made a concerted effort last night to listen to the CD. I have it on repeat on my MP3 player so actually, I go through it several times as I always fall asleep through it. I usually wake up at some point to discover it is still playing but I reckon by then I have listened to it several times over. Hopefull the messages will sink in the more I listen to it.

Hope you all have a great day Paulette's.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/05/2012 09:58

Bodacious - who has been sceptical? Diet lovers?? Wink

The CD is very much the key, for me anyway. This 'diet', for want of a better word, is based on NLP, so it seems logical that you actually have to do that part of it for it to work.

Rosy - I think that when it is new and shiny and you are really focussing on the rules, then perhaps you don't need the CD so much. But when you are talking about doing this for the months and years that are needed to lose the amount of weight some of us wanted/want to shift, then you need something to help it all get really ingrained.
I have been doing this for a year now, and I still need the CD. The difference now is that if I have a lapse, then I don't put on any weight, I just stay the same. I just don't overeat to the same extent that I used to, I can't manage it.

It is two years since I was at my heaviest weight. We had invited some family for the weekend to celebrate my birthday, and I remember getting dressed and swathing myself in this huge cardigan. It was horrible, and I was wearing a pair of size 22 trousers. I stepped on the scales the next morning, and I was 15st 9lbs.
The next day DH and I started low-carbing, and I lost a stone in the two months before I found out I was pregnant with DS2. I only put on a stone while I was pregnant, so 6 weeks post-birth I was 14st 2lbs and that is when I started Pauling. I was 13st 0.5lbs this morning.
I have lost 36.5lbs, and I want to lose another 32.5 (goal weight is 10.10). Best of all is that I have lost 7 inches off my waist, and 6 off my hips.

Sorry for the self-indulgence, but it is good to remind myself how far I have come :)

ppeatfruit · 03/05/2012 11:09

Morning Everyone! Smile bodacious Tell those sceptics to come on here! dey is stoopid Grin AliWhat a great history!!! Congrats.!!!

notsure Welcome! If P.M. does anything he improves our self images which IMO a lot of people needGrin I LOVE HEEEM!! sorry I feel a bit happy/weird today!Grin it's not the ice cold wine tb BTW DH goes off the vino for lent and ALWAYS looses a stone or 2!!

That is the problem here there's a lot of temptation food and drink wise we've even found an amazing vintner who produces org non sulphite wine for a few euros a bottle which is sooo delicious and it leaves ME without a hangover! He also lived in England for years! Which is helpful even for DH who speaks good french (Mine is improving!) how's yours tb ? DH found out somewhere that the one language which is MOST difficult to speak CORRECTLY is french!! Even the french don't use most of the conjugations!!

BigBoobiedBertha · 03/05/2012 11:42

Hi everybody - not been around for a few days. Had a very busy week and tbh it has been a bit mixed as far as food is concerned. I am going with it though - it isn't surprising I have had a few lapses since I was ill last week and ate very little and this week is that wonderful time in the month when temptation is stronger than ever. I echo Solo on this one - bloody hormones. I haven't been that bothered by them in the last 30 years but in their twilight years they are making themselves felt. Hmm

On the plus side - I am keeping to my commitment not to eat sweets and chocolate during the week. On the down side, I eat too much cake instead (although not past dinnertime but still not the most sensible of choices) and I had a whole bag on Wine Gums last weekend. Oh and a creme egg although not on the same evening. I don't feel bad about eating those things at the weekend as I have kept to my deal with myself during the week but I do wish I hadn't eaten the whole bag of Wine Gums. It is the texture really as well as the taste. Not something that is replicated in proper healthy food. Blush

Alibaba - that is fantastic. What a milestone Smile

Bodacious - Ignore the sceptics. In essense Pauling is only eating sensibly. There is nothing in the rules at the beginning of this thread that isn't common sense and how a slim person would eat anyway. There is no freaky diet or rules about what you can and can't eat.

What makes the difference is the CD which is using hypnotism to attempt to change the way you think about food. That is the only unusual thing. I don't see it as that odd but if any of those sceptics have sat and laughed about hypnotists making people behave as chickens or whatever, they know the power of suggestion on the mind. It isn't that big a stretch to stop treating it as a joke and start using hypnotism as a tool for something worthwhile...... unless of course you have a wish to be a chicken. Grin

What i am saying is that people are prepared to accept the power of hypnotism as a party trick but won't when it is for something useful. It makes no sense but there you are. When you tell them about it (I don't bother but some people need the support of telling people) you can miss off the bit about the CD if it is easier for you or call it a relaxation tool, which it is, and just talk about the rules. How anybody can be sceptical about that I don't know.

GossipWitch · 03/05/2012 13:18

Well yesterday was a major success, I had three meals, granted not low fat but delicious, a cheese and sausage toastie for breakfast- no crusts, a chocolate spread and peanut butter sandwich- which i couldn't eat all of :S, and spag bol, very yummy but did go over the satisfied full part because it was sooooo nice, no second helping and a large child sized portion, and I wasn't at all hungry last night which surprised me, normally I scoff crisps and biscuits at night because I skip meals. Today has started well even if i have had a late start, I've had breakfast, a bowl of chocolate muesli, I haven't had lunch yet because I'm not hungry, but I do have a good amount of energy. I have come to the conclusion that this is just a pure common sense way of eating.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/05/2012 14:00

Gossip that sounds fab. It doesn't matter that your food isn't low fat. Low fat is a myth, fat eaten in the right balance with other foods is what fills you up and stops you shovelling in sugary things at a rate of knots.

BBB - I find the week days are the hardest. Weekends where there is more time to prepare meals, and we are actually doing things, I find I don't snack. Week days, with the grind of preschool, errands and so on are where I fall down.

ppeat I really Grin at your 'I am feeling a bit happy/weird' Grin
