Is alcohol allowed? SadShock.

JustFab · 03/05/2012 18:15

Not Shock. I meant Angry.

BodaciousTatas · 03/05/2012 18:23

Listened to the cd last night in bed. I think I fell asleep about 1 minute in

Hopefully the message still went in.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/05/2012 18:29

Fab - of course, everything is allowed.

Bodacious - it will have gone in :)

Rosylee1976 · 03/05/2012 19:55

Ali that was a really great story. It was very inspiring. I really hope that I can do as well as you have.

I am just pleased that while I have not always made great choices in the last couple of days, I am still focused on these rules as they truly are fantastic and life transforming habits to acquire.

Just about to have a spicy butternut and chicken curry with rice. It will go well with the cold wet weather.

BodaciousTatas · 03/05/2012 20:12

Just ate sausage and mash, definitely ate less than usual (usually I eat until bursting point) it's the eating slowly bit I am struggling with.

tb · 03/05/2012 21:14

I have a problem with eating slowly, too.

My late df, who was ex-MN, hated long chatty meals, and so there was always the need to eat quickly. He would actually leave the table before the end of the meal if there was too long before the dessert. 'Spose at sea, all he had to do was to click his fingers and the next course would arrive Grin

Can remember really annoying a friend, who had to be 'best' at everything. The first time we all went out for a meal I finished my meal first, and he was gobsmacked.

ppeatfruit · 04/05/2012 07:50

Morning all!! 'May the force (4th) be with you'!!! Smile Ref. eating slowly either 1. Eat with your eyes closed or 2. Count the number of chews (it should be 15 to over 20 obviously depending on what yr eating!) Or do both!

Waves to solo BTW we've bought the Wheat Belly book it's well worth buying quite shocking actually and mardy

tb I was thinking WHAT? yr ex was a mumsnettter and that made him eat quickly!!!!! Hmm Grin Duh!!!

ppeatfruit · 04/05/2012 07:57

tb Then I worked out you meant Merchant Navy! Blush Ref. long meals I know an expat girl married to a frenchman who refuses ever to sit at the table for meals because his cruel mother forced them to sit at the table for hours when L.O's. Sad

JustFab · 04/05/2012 08:06

Morning all!

I feel like I am eating more than before but am due on so putting that as the reason for the pound and a half gain Sad. I hate being so crap that I can't even sort my food issues out or stick to healthy eating for more than 5 minutes.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/05/2012 08:07

Tb - my DH went to boarding school (father in the navy) and he eats sooo fast! They had a rule that the person who finished last had to help with the washing up Grin

I made the mistake of going to the supermarket alone at 9pm last night after I had been to vote. Gu chocolate banoffee pots are very nice Blush

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/05/2012 08:09

Fab - don't weigh yourself before your period. Mine aren't back since DS2 yet, but I always gain a couple of pounds just beforehand.

MardyBra · 04/05/2012 08:57

I was the youngest in a family with older brothers. The family culture was to eat fast, otherwise you'd miss out on any seconds.

In fact, it's still the same if we have a meal with my parents. My father will gobble up his meal, and then survey everyone else's plates which still have food on them, and pick up the bowl of roasties (or whatever) and help himself to another large portion while announcing "You don't mind if I have some more, do you?".

JustFab · 04/05/2012 09:53

Thanks Alibaba Smile.

I would love to never weigh myself - or at least not for a while - but I put 2 stone on when I went on new meds and didn't realise so I am worried about the weight going up again. I need to lose 2 stone.

BigBoobiedBertha · 04/05/2012 10:12

Morning!

It probably isn't wise to weigh yourself before your period but that doesn't stop me but on the other hand you do get the feel good factor of losing without doing anything if you weigh the week after. Grin

Fab - that is why I weigh when I feel like it - because it is very easy to put on weight and not notice. Just don't be down-hearted - you will have lost it again next week and if you haven't, well at least you know and can do something about it.Smile

What is it with all the bloody PPI cold callers at the moment? I am averaging about 4 a week and we are registered with TPS so shouldn't be getting these calls. I am afraid I lost it slightly with one this morning. Blush He started his spiel and I interrupted and asked how he got out number, small silence. I said we were registered with TPS and he shouldn't be phoning. Another small silence and he said no, he wasn't phoning about that but about PPI. I suspect he was overseas but that didn't stop me telling him I resented all these PPI calls we keep getting and I wasn't stupid enough to take out PPI in the first place. Then I put the phone down. I feel bad and now I am stewing on it. Not relevant to this thread particularly except it is the same sort of stewing as when I know I haven't stuck to the Pauling rules. I am obviously a stewer and need to forget and move on - it would make life a whole lot easier.

I'm off to get my haircut this morning. I need it!

JustFab · 04/05/2012 11:38

Thank you. I will stay off the scales until the 4th of June and hope for the best.

tb · 04/05/2012 15:27

Grin I did wonder whether to clarify whether my late df was indeed ex-Merchant Navy and not a rabid mumsnetter! He'd be 105 now, so was long gone before mumsnet. Can't quite work out what he would have thought of it, though.

He could have certainly have posted some good jokes in Chat when they were demanded!

As an aside, I can remember that he had an old 78 record - a man singing limericks, and each one had the last missing, being replaced by 'Sing us another one, do'. At about 17 or 18 I had been reading Fritz Speigel's book of grave humour, and had come across the limerick written on a gravestone:

There once were 2 brothers from Hyde
One fell down a midden and died
Along came his brother
And fell down another
And now they're interred side by side.

I couldn't work out why it was so funny, and when he played the record I piped up that I knew that one, and the last line is ".....". He pissed himself laughing, and the more I asked, the more he laughed, and he still wouldn't tell me. He had a wicked sense of humour, and when he sold the radiogram, he used that record to demonstrate that it was working.......according to him, the man who bought it knew all the last lines as he was laughing all the way through. Grin

JustFab · 04/05/2012 15:30

I had to read it a few times before I got that he was Merchant Navy BlushGrin.

Thetokengirl · 04/05/2012 16:22

Hi All

Alibaba loved your story, very inspiring.
Justfab I always go up a dress size at that time of the month which is very annoying, but at least the bloating and weight goes straight back off again.
BBB rant away, that's what we are here for.
Mardy I'm also the youngest in a house of brothers, seems to be a theme here.

I was thinking last night as I served dinner (yummy quorn spag bol) that pre-PMK I would be meticulously serving out so DH and I had exactly the same amount of food, despite the fact he is 6'4" and I'm 5'2" and a half. If it was a slimming world low/no syn meal, then I wanted to stuff my face with as much as I could. Seems daft now. I had about 2/3rds of what DH had last night and didn't quite finish it all and was full.

I don't think I have ever lost weight so quickly and effortlessly and it doesn't feel like a diet. Grin

I have started getting "Have you lost weight ?" at work which is great Grin
DH has also complimented me but is mainly pleased because it hasn't gone off my norks yet

Unfortunately, after not wanting to spend money on new clothes for ages, I now want to buy some. However, we are supposed to be trying to save money, so I'll restrict myself to e-bay I think, especially as I still have more to lose.

Got a baby sitter for tomorrow night, so off out. Too much food and drink, I suspect but I'll stil try and vaguely stick to the rules.

Good Pauling everyone Smile

JustFab · 04/05/2012 20:07

Mine doesn't always go..Sad.

KinkyDorito · 04/05/2012 20:19

Sorry I've been avoiding, and thank you for kind PM Solo.

Things not going well. I've put all weight back on!

I've found out today the boss wants to see me next week about my attendance. I think this might be the start of procedure. I'm so worried about my job and about money.

DD has been put on reduced chemo: 75%. Dr says she obviously isn't managing full dose. This worries me as surely 100% is there for a reason?

Another child died, another has been given 6 months. I'm surrounded by children who have relapsed.

I'd booked a big holiday to give us something to look forward to at end of chemo; now I fear I might have to cancel.

Shit, shit and more shit.

Sad
KinkyDorito · 04/05/2012 20:20

Sorry. I am a miserable so-and-so.

My garden's not looking bad, on the upside. The slugs seem to have avoided the more pricey shrubs.

Grin
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/05/2012 20:49

Kinky you poor love ((((hugs)))) Good news on the slugs! Grin

tokengirl - I can feel I'm building up to some spending on new clothes. I bought a couple of things in Laura Ashley of all places today, they have a massive sale on, plus 30% off everything including new season. I bought a dress and a top - the dress is a size 14!!
I used to do that with meals too, give DH and I the same amount. WTF was I thinking? He is 6', I am 5'2"...
