My other thread went poof I think (don't ask)

So I got weighed today as today is the day I face up to what I've done to myself.
My joints ache, I'm short of breath and sweaty and I have 2 outfits that fit.
Things have got to change.
Anyone up for a diet buddy/ hand holding?

merryberry · 10/03/2012 08:31

hello, nice to find you! I've just posted about mrsmin.wordpress.com/2012/03/08/one-of-these-ladies/ my loss from hugely overweight to normal BMI (lighterlife) am doing food reintroduction and am tweeting my current meal a day atthe foot of the blog. My meals sound very similar to your meals, can I join you?

lexcat · 10/03/2012 09:50

Please may I join you lovely ladies.

I would like to lose 6st possible 7st, did manage to lose 2st a while back but have put it all back on again.

I have a few friends who often give things up for lent so I thought I'd try too. As bread is my weakness I thought I'd try giving that up, plus it had to be something easy as dd wanted to do the same as me. This within a week I was feeling slimmer so am trying to cut out most wheat (unknowen to dd).

Now I have changed my diet some what all for the better plus trying to get the dog out on longer walks everyday. I'm felling so much better for all the small changes I've made, more energy, sleeping and with out bread to snack on it's turned to fruit and vege.

The best bit of all is in 2 weeks I have lost 7lbs which is a record for me, it was 5lbs in 2 weeks.

TheArmadillo · 10/03/2012 16:53

hello - can I join?

I need to lose at least 7, preferrably 8 stone which sound humiliating.

I am calorie counting (using myfitnesspal.com) as its the only thing that has really worked for me before. I used it a similar site a couple of years ago and lost 3 stone but then got pregnant + had breakdown and it went on again.

Anyway started a couple of weeks ago. I don't tell anyone in RL as I hate people knowing and therefore slating what I eat. However I did spend one of those weeks with a virus so eating very little anyway.

My problem is I love food and I love cooking - I make pretty much everything from scratch. I am trying to eat very low calorie (though still get a good amount of food) during the day and then still have a proper dinner with dh + kids all of whom are slim. I won't use heavily processed or diet products so either avoid very fattening stuff completely or have it rarely. I'm hoping by doing this I can develop a diet for life.

I'm weighing most stuff at the moment to get an idea of what constitutes a portion of something.

Exercise wise I walk everywhere as its free and we don't have a car anyway. Since monday I have done 10 1/2 hours walking (school run alone is 2 hours a day).

I have tried the food replacement diets and I just can't stick to them for more than a couple of days - I admire those of you who can.

goingbacktowork · 10/03/2012 19:18

Welcome to you all. I am finding this a hard slog but I am not giving up this time. Merryberry you are an inspiraton good to see you here.

merryberry · 11/03/2012 08:17

thanks for the welcome. bread makes me lose control of my appetite and gives me a half day stomach upset. my current goal is to develop the kind of nutritious eating Armadillo described, ditto the strong portion control. I too love cooking for others and myself, I have a 'not for me' mantra about stuff though that i just let repeat and distract myself with tea instead. Particular weakness is cake batter mind you, always fail there. Don't like cakes, like batter:) Sha,e it's a 4 cake week. Need some company in the kitchen to talk to dissuade me from dipping.

TheArmadillo · 11/03/2012 10:30

I do one pudding a week usually as we have guests on sunday however this week we haven't (well not for sunday dinner anyway) so I haven't got an excuse.

I'm trying to convince myself not to make one anyway. I don't even particularly like sweet stuff Hmm

My other problem is trying not to overfeed other people to make up for me not having it (IYSWIM) I know other, successful slimmers who do this and it just means everyone around them gets fatter. Dh has been warned (though he's looking forward to it apparently Hmm).

I find putting things off is better than telling yourself you're not having it. So 'if I still want some I'll have it after I've done xyz ' then after you've done xyz you find something else to do. The longer you wait the more likely the craving will disappear (I found this when I gave up smoking).

Also allow yourself that treat (smaller portion size), guilt free once a week so you don't feel deprived.

merryberry · 12/03/2012 11:41

Aha, yes, will try to allow a certina amount, you're right. Have bought some of the new fruity sugar free gum to tickle my taste buds instead of cake batter for tonights bake off:)

goingbacktowork · 19/03/2012 07:03

Where has everyone gone off this thread? Have we all lost the use of our hands due to weight loss?Grin Anyone still being healthy?

KateSpade · 20/03/2012 20:05

I need to join this thread.

I'm really, really disappointed with myself/annoyed.

my little girl is 6MO, and I've lost the grand totally of.. around 1.5 stone,

WTAF Shock

i would like to lost another three stone by september, which i think will be manageable, within a few lb's. Im not using this as an excuse, but i have the slowest metabolism in the world. I literally have to eat nothing to loose weight, i can't just eat normal healthy food, as that dosnt work, so like this week, i've had a normal week. I put on 1.5lb, its soo frustrating.

Embarrasing confession time:

I used to get my ex-bf to text me everyday saying i was fat, and needed too loose weight, he thought i was stupid and badgered me into it, but it worked. Kept me focused, which is what i need, focus. Urgh.

I have nothing but hate for skinny people...

merryberry · 26/03/2012 21:21

Grief, poor man, poor you. Horrible thing to hear or have to say! You need to bombard yourself with happier messages woman, self-loathing, moaning about other folk, I dunno, where to start! If you start off with 'I'm so annoyed with myself' you're going into it all off the back foot, making it nigh on impossible for yourself. Get thee to a book on cognitive behavioural therapy for people who overeat. Have your thyroid levels checked if you suspect metabolic disorder. Stop sitting there seething and make one small positive difference and then congratulate yourself on doing something right and figure out the next step!

merryberry · 26/03/2012 21:24

Yes, very healthy thanks. You, going back to work? I undershot weight target by 10lbs, felt like Sandra Bullock in charge of a careening boat, DOUBLED my prescribed food intake and I think it's calmed down now. Having a wonderful time with food and cooking and stuff. Blog linky, cassava

lexcat · 27/03/2012 16:58

How's everyone going. I'm dreading the easter hoildays lent will be over and bread will back on the menu, well for dd anyway I will try and keep away from it. Add the chocolate and a pre-teen who eats like horse and will need feeding oh the joy of hearty school dinners. Plus I'm terrible a snacking when not at work.

The up side is I only have 2lbs to go before I've lost a stone. I know the weight lose will slow down at some stage but a stone in a month (I hope) has really inspired me to keep going. I'm hoping 3st by august when I go on hoilday. Will reset my target then as I hope to lose about 7-8 st in total.

merryberry · 29/03/2012 06:59

I just say 'It's not for me, it's not for me' over n over in my head about other people's food and on the positive side before I eat I always think 'Does this nourish me somehow, really support me'. Quick chekcs atht seem to work. So well don on the stone:) x
