Well done bugsy and Sparky, great losses. I lost 1.5lb this week and we three are all in a similar place I think. My BMI is 29.6 and I have recently gone from 'obese' to 'overweight' too. It's very satisfying, I find. Also, much more choice available when shopping for clothes Smile.

Sparky I can't promise not to have any chocolate at Easter but I will show solidarity and support by not having any between now and Easter Sunday, how's that Grin?

Faz pardon my ignorance, but what part of eating causes your ds pain? Is it just the reflux or does he get stomach pains after eating anything? Also, does he prefer liquid food or does he like lumps?

fazsaeed · 12/03/2012 16:42

Both. Reflux is when the spinchter muscle is weak and doesn't close after eating. His stomach contents comes back up into his throat several times before settling which in some cases with ds has been most of the day and night. Imagine being sick but it's not actually coming out all the time several times plus heart burn. It's enough to put any one off food.
I was ignorant about reflux before ds but know it's taken over my life!
He prefers finger solid foods. Nothing runny or lumpy ( pain association from weaning)

Fairenuff · 12/03/2012 17:34

Thanks for explaining Faz Smile. Again, excuse my ignorance, but how does feeding him with a syringe make any difference? Is it just that you can get it in him, does he not resist? I'm only asking because I'm trying to understand a bit more what it is like for you, so that I can offer support if you need it x

fazsaeed · 12/03/2012 18:40

I know that's why your asking :)
The other day I was giving him milkshake.
He wouldn't take it in a glass but would with a syringe.
I did have to give it him in a syringe and at first he cryer but he managed to take most of his food like that. I don't know if chewing is a problem for him or to him it doesn't seem like he's eating but I'm happy that he's had it.
I think I might be going back to baby jars again...
When we have a nice big meal then it's fine to blend all the food but it's a lil hard to do hot dogs and beans or fish fingers lol.

I know he needs help feeding and I'm pretty sure this is the most I can do...
Thanks :)
X

Well, hopefully you will get there in the end faz, all you can do is keep trying and keep taking him back to the GP to try different meds. I think for now you are right to not worry too much about what he's eating, in terms of healthy options, as long as he becomes happy with at least eating anything to start with.

fazsaeed · 12/03/2012 19:52

That is my approach. Taking him to get weighed tomorrow. I saw a 9 month old baby who was 2 stone. My mates lo. There's such a big difference. He's over 1/2 stone heavier.
Every child is different though

SparkyMcSparrow · 12/03/2012 20:26

Blimey,9 months old and 2 stone Shock My 4yo weighs 2.2!

Good luck faz I really hope he gets better soon!

fazsaeed · 12/03/2012 22:02

I asked her for tips on fattening ds up lol
She said she gives her lo wotsits and chocs! All day!

Fairenuff · 12/03/2012 23:01

Oh dear (TP you had better cover your eyes!), I hope he gets more nourishment than that. Once kids get a taste for high fat, high salt, high sugar processed foods, it can be hard to get them to eat the good stuff. Brocolli just isn't as appealing somehow.

Faz I am sure you would be delighted if your ds would eat wotsits and chocolates but you know that would just be setting him up for more problems later in life. I think your idea of blending homemade, nourishing food, is a much better choice Smile.

Don't forget to look after yourself as well. How are you finding your own eating habits, are they improving at all, or is it all just a bit too much at the moment? You were going to try and have a good breakfast to set you up for the day, how is that working out.

Right, folks, I think that's me done for the day. Night all, sleep well x

fazsaeed · 12/03/2012 23:15

Im happier making his food or using baby food. Stuff like that ibgive himvl very rarely.
I don't let him snack as he won't eat next meal even if it's half biscuit so I'd rather he was hungry for proper food.

I'm plodding. I try not to eat crap. If it goes on my mouth I know it's not my biggest worry. I do a lot more walking as I'm trying the meals on wheels with pram lol. Taking his food out with us so he can eat a lil bit. Or to give him his bottle.
Night night sleep tight
Xxx

Iv'e been on here most of the day , can you tell? Grin

Fairenuff · 14/03/2012 19:25

Well at least the air guitar might burn some calories? It's definately better than eating out of boredom!

SparkyMcSparrow · 14/03/2012 19:28

That's what I thought Grin

Have had a good day foodie wise. Ds is ill again hence being stuck in all day singing and dancing. Its like we are all taking it in turns to be ill.

Fairenuff · 14/03/2012 19:32

Lots going round at the moment. I went over calories on Sunday, so doing some damage limitation this week. So far, so good Smile.

SparkyMcSparrow · 14/03/2012 19:41

Well done! Keep it up! :)
Where is everyone?
