New thread since the old one is full :)

I think the lose 10lbs to drop a dress size works for small people. On my 6ft frame, with 35kg (so over 70lbs) to lose it won't work like that. In fact I have now lost 9lbs and my current clothes don't feel any looser...

I think it will be a while before I can go down a dress size.

KatoPotato · 23/04/2012 14:12

Ladies,

New to Mumsnet, but been on mfp since Jan, lost 22 ilbs since last year.

nimbs · 23/04/2012 14:30

glad to hear that it's not just be cinnamon and behind! I'm only 5ft 5 - but am now thinking I was probably being a bit optimistic about a) what my original dress size was and b) how much I have to lose Hmm - I've got a lot of 'events' to look forward to this summer so I will be thin(ner)!!

nimbs · 23/04/2012 14:32

me not be

savy57 · 23/04/2012 14:33

Just joined mfp using same username I've been logging everything i eat today and im shocked its only half 2 and ive pretty much consumed my full calorie intake allowed so will go shopping later on tonight and get more healthier stuff
I though mfp was just a calorie counter didnt relise it had so many more benefits can i just ask a question about the exercise log how do use log the shred dvd for instance like if i done the 20 mins step 1 on the shred dvd how do i put it into my fitness pal

cinnamongreyhound · 23/04/2012 14:37

That's definately something to consider nimbs, I was a 16 but even though my clothes were ok there were quite a few things I tried that I couldn't get into so think I had stretched my 16's! I bought my second size 12 pair of jeans yesterday and actually asked dh if I looked stupid buying a 12 as when I look in the mirror I don't see someone who looks like they fit in a 12 if that makes any sense!

As with someone else's question further up thread milk has quite a bit of sugar in it Cherrypi, and I am usually somewhere between 15-40% of my iron! I'm going to give blood on Friday so will see if several months of being under iron intake will have affected my blood levels!

Well done KatoPotato, have added you!

MonsterBookOfTysons · 23/04/2012 14:44

Wow well done NCIS!!! :o

Cherri I have added you.

Nimbs I am 5ft 6in and started as a tight size 12 and was comfortable in a 14 and now am a baggy size 12. I have lost 18.4lbs so I do not think the drop a dress size for every 10 lbs is correct either otherwise I would be in a 10 which I am not. :)

savy I tended to put 20 mins circuit training.

I no longer use the shred as the dvd went missing, I have a feeling my toddler binned the dvd and the dvd buttons Hmm :o

twinkle183 · 23/04/2012 15:24

Afternoon ladies

I have been on fitnesspal for ages and thanks to some get friends on here I have been able to loose well over a stone! I am stuck at 65kg, 5ft4ins and am wanting the remainder of it off... another 5-10kgs to go and I'll be happy!

I find it really hard to train as I am doing a full time degree course as well as be a mother to three children pretty much on my own as dh works away (Navy wife)!

Hoping to succeed this time round have decided I make too many excuses and know that I can find at least an hour a day to train while the kiddies are in bed! I was just wondering if any one has any tips on mental toughness???

Have just purchased the insanity dvd which is rock hard Shock.. but i seem to be able to follow this 60 day or 30 day challenges but once they have finish i stop for some reason.... Hmm

So if anyone would like to add me to become motivational buddies that would be great....

Myfitnesspal username is: twinkletoe_183

I look forward to travelling on this journey with you all and am hoping to reach my goal weight...... Smile

nimbs · 23/04/2012 17:41

I was a '16' but now my '16's don't actually give me a huge muffin top anymore - definately stretched my favourite jeans! Monster I've just found the shred on you tube - so though I have actually got two dvd's hanging around somewhere here - am going to give it a another go tomorrow. just stuffed myself with a roast dinner - yummy - made the kids ice cream cones - only 4 left in the box - so no spare for me to pick at!! Wink

twinkle183 · 23/04/2012 21:57

Monster... if you want a 30 day shred dvd I now longer use mine if you want it??? Thats if I can find it... Hmm

MonsterBookOfTysons · 23/04/2012 22:59

twinkle thank you for the offer but I have got so used to not using it now I am ok thanks. :)

makinglemonade · 23/04/2012 23:38

Hi all, can I join in? I'm hoping hearing how well you are all doing will keep me motivated!

twinkle we sound very similar with our goals

I just started logging my food today and I'm shocked at how many calories I've consumed.

My user name is same as mn name if anyone wants to add me.

WeightyKaty · 24/04/2012 16:45

Hi Everyone

I am doing WW but not sure how I feel about the whole points thing. Have any of you done WW and moved onto MFP. How does it compare? More or less effective? I eat quite a lot of fruit so this may be why my loss is slow on WW as its free with propoints.

Your thoughts would be most appreciated!

HipHopOpotomus · 24/04/2012 17:02

Hi WeightyKaty (great name). I've done WW in the past - I think MFP is pretty much the same. All WW does is calorie count with a bit of juggling across the week. They convert calories to 'points' - that is it!!

MFP counts your calories daily. But you could of course 'save' 100 cals per day (for example) and have an additional 600 cals on the weekend (or whatever).

It's not like WW has any magical combination of foods that work better - it's about calorie counting and eating a balanced diet.

I love that with MFP you can see very very clearly where you go wrong, & how easy it can be, but also how much you can eat if you make good choice.

bexsybooboo · 25/04/2012 08:25

Hi everyone >waves to all< am passing through quickly so I can book mark Smile

Good to see everyone still doing so well Smile

OneTwoOrThree · 25/04/2012 10:31

Hi..... I'm still here, just don't get the opportunity to post much (kids, eh!). It's weighing day for me today.......

OneTwoOrThree · 25/04/2012 11:51

.... and I've lost 2lb in the last week.

That's 3.5lb in the first week, and 2lb in the second week. Another 1.5lb will take me back to my weight pre DC2 (there's a long way to pre DC1 weight, and even further to my goal).

Delighted Grin

Also delighted that the extra 500 calories I get for breastfeeding seems to be working out about right. I was worried this was too many and I wouldn't lose weight. I'm hoping to lose as much as possible in the next 5 months as after this I will be weaning the baby and won't get the extra 500 calories - this diet will seem much harder then!

OneTwoOrThree · 25/04/2012 12:02

WeightyKaty - I've also done WW in the past, and agree that the 'old' WW is just another method of calorie counting. 70 calories = 1 points, and 4g sat fat = 1 point I used to get 18 points a day, so a max of 70x18=1260 calories per day, if you eat zero sat fat. By the time you add in a sensible amount of sat fat, then calorie intake is probably quite low (and certainly lower than on MFP).

The 'new' WW is no longer about calories, but instead about fibre, protein, fat and (something else - can't remember!). The method of calculating points in much more difficult (ie you can't just remember the 70 calories and 4 sat fat and do the maths in your head), so you do need access to their calculators. I'm no nutritional expert, but I suspect that by counting a combination of fibre, protein, fat and ?, you end up on a low calorie diet anyway.

In my opinion, MFP is superior as it's easier to count calories (no working out points etc), and it's free.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/04/2012 14:36

Well done OneTwoOrThree, until now while bf was my lightest weight! It's great for keeping weight off so hopefully it'll help you lose it too.

I'm still weighing daily but lost 500g overnight last night so now less than a Kg to be under 11st :). I weigh myself in Kg as dh does and I can't be bothered to keep changing the scales but it doesn't mean as much to me as weighing in st and lb! My goal is 68Kg as that takes my BMI into normal range but to be 10st something would be lovely. I am now 70.6Kg so not far to go!

No experience of WW WeightyKaty but I love mfp, it's very easy to track what you're eating and it's good to have a goal amount of calories suggested for you too. I don't go in for all the groups and like that I can get on with mfp without needing to spend money, go anywhere or have to exclude/include specific food groups each day.

Cherrypi · 25/04/2012 17:29

Hi onetwo. I'm breastfeeding too. Do you track it as exercise?

OneTwoOrThree · 25/04/2012 18:18

Cherrypi - If you search in the food database you will find breastfeeding. There are a few options, but for exclusive breastfeeding a baby under 6 months it should add minus 500 calories to your tracker.

twinkle183 · 25/04/2012 20:30

Evening ladies... am on day 5 of insanity and am absolutely loving it... hoping to notice a difference on the scales next week! Smile

makinglemonade I have added you.... Wink

I am getting better at the food side although I do have to odd off day... I don't often get on here either....

Cherrypi · 25/04/2012 21:58

Ooh thanks onetwo. Of course it's under food doh! 500 calories wow.
