Second thread

Loads of us doing really well and losing weight WELL DONE

Some of us, looking at no one in particular de motivated and struggling. I could start with the excuses but I'm not going to. What's done is done, I need to concentrate on the diet from now (and maybe even some exercise). Since I am in a confessional mood I will start this thread by saying that all I have eaten today is about 200g of chocolate. No lie, no exaggeration (I know I have eaten one 100g bar and some more). I really have a problem with food - have no willpower for moderation, it is all or nothing.

So, reasons to continue (these are mine, please add your own):

  • Psychologically I am going to get 'there' again - i.e. deciding to diet and really getting it. The reason I am not is because I am full of "what's the point" thoughts. I have done so badly in the last few days. But it doesn't MATTER - it's actually better to make the change now when I start to get horrified again in 3 weeks time.
  • I am doing it. I ahve lost 2.5 stone since last summer and 1.5 stone since Christmas! If I eat less, I lose weight. So doing it is not pointless and I will see results.
  • I am going to start having some health issues soon. I may have lost weight but I am still at a point where my weight is unhealthy.
  • I still cannot wear my s16 jeans. That's my first goal - by the end of this month.
  • I feel overall more happy and positive when I am logging calories. If I could ahve a day off without blowing it and losing ALL motivation to restart I'd be happy to do that every once in a while. But I can't, so I won't.

Right, off to log my 200g chocolate and think about lunch.

Fantastic stuff MABS and Five Smile

I've been riding my bike a lot recently, mainly around lakes so nice and flat. I gave myself a shock this morning by doing a 5k route that has a very quick but steep downhill (lovely) followed by a looooooong massive uphill (not so lovely) and then flat so quite hard work. My thighs are feeling it now.

But on a plus point I've finally moved on from my plateau and I've lost another kilo which brings me up to 9kg since Christmas (which is 1.5 stone which sounds so much more impressive Grin) which brings my total since dd was born (3.5 years ago Blush) to 19kg (just under 3 stone)

While I'm chuffed about this, I hate the way my mind works. I'm obviously so much smaller than I used to be but I still see myself as hugely, hugely fat (I'm 5'6 and 13st12 (size14/16) now). I know that isn't slim but I wish I could appreciate what I've achieved so far instead of seeing a fat lump whenever I see a mirror.

Does anyone else do this? It's like I get used to my new size and then my mind 'forgets' what I used to be like and just slots me back into the 'fat as fuck' category.

StealthPolarBear · 15/03/2012 15:47

I agree. You (and this is the general you :o) are still not the slim thing you had in mind, so the temptation is to think what was the point? But as I said earlier, you need to let your mind oerrule this. How many years have you added on your life? Hpow much have you redcued the chances of diabetes, heart attack, cancer, stroke? How many more years will your knees hold up now? If you've gone down a clothes size, brilliant, if not, I bet you no longer stress about splitting the seams of your trousers when you sit down?

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 15/03/2012 15:50

And your mind plays tricks on you when you look int he mirror. To some extent you see what you expect to see. It took a photo of me from about 16 years ago (when in my mind I was pretty much as fat as I am now) to see how much weight I had piled on. I had a waist then Was wearing a normal top not one that resembles a tent and is designed not to cling. And then I still thoguht I was 'fat'!

I agree with that first bit Stealth!

I started reading a book recently (didn't get very far with it so far though Blush) about food addiction, and the author's theory was that trying to lose weight in order to look better was a recipe for failure - her theory was that you needed to change your focus to be about your health, otherwise you would no longer have a "positive" reason to eat well once you had lost weight (only the negative - fear of putting it back on - which it seemed worked much less well as a motivator).

I have been fairly good up till today, though have a feeling the rest of the week might be less good (as usual...). Failed a bit today because I went for the (should-have-been) healthy option at lunch -vegetable curry & rice - only to find it was mostly composed of potatoes and huge onion bits Confused So I ended up not eating much of it, and then picking at some v. unhealthy buffet leftovers later cos I was hungry. So much for trying!

Still, am hoping to start a temporary gym membership tonight or tomorrow and get back into my exercising finally, on a more positive note! Despite being full of a new cold [sniffle sniffle]...

TheLightPassenger · 15/03/2012 20:59

agree with SPB, it's normal to feel frustrated, as let's face it, losing several stone is going to be quite a lengthy process. Even though I am nearly 2 stone lighther than my heaviest weight, I don't see myself as any thinner than that iyswim

MABS · 16/03/2012 08:22

you are all doing so very well, keep looking as those great figures you are losing gals!

FluffyWuffyCuntyKins · 20/03/2012 07:09

hello people who are very quiet,

I've manages to whack another kilo off so that's 10 now.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 20/03/2012 10:25

Well done Fluffy, you must be cold though Grin

I have finally started exercising again, woohoo! Though still having trouble with sore feet, think I am going to have to bite the bullet and finally see someone about it. Been to the gym twice already though and hoping to go tonight as well!

Weightwise I have been a bit up and down though, had a slightly disastrous WI on Sunday where I had gained more than 2 pounds Shock but most of it has already come off again, so I think it was partly just temporary gain from having a big Chinese banquet on Saturday night! Been quite good since then though, so I'm hoping by the end of the week it will all be off again, and maybe a bit more too if I can keep it up.

Despite having lost almost 12lb so far though, I still have some days when I put on my work trousers and feel like they are still really snug, not sure why that is Confused Anyone else had the same?

fivegomadindorset · 20/03/2012 21:23

Well done Fluffy.

Sorry been AWOL. Eaten my weight in chocolate this weekend as it is coming up to that special time of the month we know and love. Also lunch on Sunday and wine and food.

Interestying day at work today. For those of you who dont know I work in a prison library part time. This afternoon we had to leave the library while the police sniffer dogs came in as one of the prisoners who work in the library has been accused of selling drugs. Then the fire alarm kept going off which we were just joking about and when I left found out that one of the prisioners has set fire to himself, barely alive. I used to chat with hime about books in the morning. Sad

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2012 21:39

Me too re chocolyae. How awful about the prisoner, hope he is ok, OS he stable?well diet seems off at the moment for me. Dh was telling me the other day how noticable of was. And through work I was weighed and measure in front of a room full of people which I thought was brave.

OP posts:
fivegomadindorset · 20/03/2012 21:40

Well done Bear, brave of you to get wighed and measured. Dont know about the prisoner, found out when I was leaving what happened and who he was.

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2012 21:53

Hope you find out more detail tomorrow.
I'm in need of more motivation. I really am scared my final motivation will be being told I have ddiabetes. Or joint trouble because of my weight. Or I need to be on medication to prevent a heart attack. What is. Wrong with me. I have 2 children, why am eating myself into an early grave?

Rowgtfc72 · 21/03/2012 16:50

Stealth, I so identify with what you're saying. I look at my five year old and think, cant you even do it for he?. Basically I'm greedy and lazy. And old and tired and my knees hurt and I have lots to do-I have a whole box of excuses! But, I weighed 16st before I got pregnant, I'm 14 st 9lb now.I was 14st 13lb at Christmas. I may not have lost the 2 st I wanted to lose up to now but I'm no heavier ! little things ! Back on the wagon I get. You got weighed in front of a room full of people, people with body issues don't do that, understanding there's an issue is half the battle and you are losing weight, slowly, but losing. Be proud of what you've done so far, tomorrow is another diet day !

MABS · 21/03/2012 19:04

sorry for silence, been crap :(

fivegomadindorset · 21/03/2012 19:04

3lbs on. bugger.

TheLightPassenger · 21/03/2012 19:39

Five - that's terrible, how awful about what happened at your work today Sad

TheLightPassenger · 21/03/2012 19:41

Time to go into whipcracking mode! This has to be a bit of a tedious long term job, moving more and eating less, etc. Of course we are going to have our moments of demotivation along the way - bit of a 3 month wobble possibly. But time to pick ourselves up and try and get back to the zone of eating better and exercising etc.

TheLightPassenger · 21/03/2012 19:42

rowgt - I sympathise, I get all sort of weird back and thigh and knee aches too. But it's important to try and find some sort of suitable exercise anyway, I find that exercise certainly doesn't make things worse as long as I avoid anything too extreme.

Rowgtfc72 · 21/03/2012 20:52

TLP weirdly my sore knees and bad back love exercise and hurt more when Im sat on my bum. They love swimming and walking and would like to be introduced slowly to jogging. If they could go off without me it would be great! I also have a slightly chubby jack russell that would love to go too ! Need to get the long term goal in my head and not look at what happened today. Thanks for the motivational shove !
MABS and five, hope youre ok.

TheLightPassenger · 21/03/2012 22:24

yes if anything I find that exercise helps rather than hinders the aches and pains, but I didn't want to be too gung ho. For some reason the stop-start of pottering round the shops is bad for my back, in a way that walking/aerobics isn't. Strange....

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2012 13:34

Well I'm back on the calorie logging today, but am so desperate to eat. not hugry, just having cravings. ANy tips on dealing with this?

OP posts:
MABS · 22/03/2012 16:46

lots of mediacl shite with my son :( but am about to do a pt sesh ..

TheLightPassenger · 22/03/2012 17:13

I would stuff myself with cherry tomatoes/cup a soup/berries and diet coke. But then I don't have the healthiest atttitude towards eating so possibly not the best advice. Exercise can take the edge off appetite?
