Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Well done RRR on getting through your first run

Panadbois hope you get back on your feet soon Smile

W5R1 completed today. went to gym for a free trial and did the run on the treadmill. It was better i think, more things to distract me from realising i was actually runnin lol!

cocoachannel · 03/02/2012 16:22

Wow! Week 5 run 3 was horrible, and I'm doing a different app from NHS one so didn't even have to run twenty minutes straight. It was also my first run in daylight. I much prefer the cloak of darkness!

Aseaandthreestars · 03/02/2012 17:04

Well done to everyone who's keeping going. I'm honestly in awe of those of you who have gone past week 4.

I'm having a day off. Everything. It's lovely. I'll be out running tomorrow if the snow stays away from London.

I'm really proud that I've been doing my physio. I seem to have got past that particular block. My lovely on-line physio has sent some new exercises and I'm really trying to do them as often as I should.

Nomorecake - I'm loving your motivation work Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 03/02/2012 18:17

I mentally split it into 4x 5 mins and concentrated on finishing each section badmumalert.

Glad to hear you'll be up and running soon Panadbois!

Back from W6R2, can't quite believe it really! I started in the forest as it was still a bit light and ended on the road so was a bit too far from home and added an extra 2 mins on the last run Shock. I'm really enjoying this running business but my poor doggy wasn't impressed today and she actually fell over :(, how can you fall from 4 legs? Waiting for dh to get on from training and we are having a stir fry (not quite the pizza hut or fish and chips ds1 requested for tea but better for Mummy's waistline!).

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 03/02/2012 18:44

Well i did W1R2 this morning before work (went out at 8am and as i wanted it to be light) done better that i thought as after reading a couple of people struggled with R2 i was apprehensive but all went well and im looking forward to sunday for R3, i have even managed to rope the SIL in to join me.

love the quotes nomorecake, especially the first as its so true.

pandboise hope you get back out running soon, must be frustrating not getting out.

BettyBathroom · 03/02/2012 19:16

Well done everyone who's still running.

Did W5R1 today - really enjoyed it, ran fast and strong and felt like I could keep going.

Very cold though, so doubled up on thermal tops and wore woolly gloves.

rusmum · 03/02/2012 21:08

Week 2 r3 done. New trainers and much more comfy, enjoyed it and felt good. Scared of w3 though lol

debka · 03/02/2012 21:14

Just in from wk6 r2- except I did r3 by mistake! Yes, just ran for 25 mins!! Realised half way round and decided to just do it. Took the dog with me which helped I think, he pulled me along a bit Grin

Next run is Sunday- what do I do if it's snowy and icy???

turningitaround · 03/02/2012 21:38

Debka I ran in the snow today. It was quite slippy, so I had to go very, very slowly (as opposed to just very slowly like normal). It wasn't too bad. I don't know about the ice though. Since this afternoon we 've had at least another 5cms of snow, which won't be melting in a hurry so I'm not really sure what to do either - join a gym? shred instead (mere thought of doing another shred gives me shinsplints)?

jchocchip · 03/02/2012 22:38

Oooer debka 25 minutes! That is what I should do tomorrow! I'm also a bit Shock about the prospect of running on snow. I do have some spikes that will go over my trainers, but not sure if I trust myself to try it! I suppose I could go to the gym, but have enjoyed running outside. Swam 40 lengths today, really tired now, night night.

OneLieIn · 03/02/2012 22:57

Oh dear, fallen away. A sod of a week at work and honestly too too too cold to go out. Maybe tomorrow. Week 5r1 beckons. Might need another kick up the arse ladies ....

RebeccaMumsnet · 03/02/2012 22:59

W5R2 done, got a bit behind this week but up to speed now, W5R3 due on Sunday.

I am still loving it - but not the cold. I feel so much fitter and am recovering so much faster.

Will post again when I get the 20 mins - congrats to all who are still going

catinboots · 04/02/2012 03:49

Which iPhone app is the best one to use??

Vajazzler · 04/02/2012 07:50

I use this one

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 04/02/2012 08:45

We are due snow today so i will be attempting running on snow tomorrow, i have also been looking on Sports Direct website and i have decided if i stick to doing this till the end i will treat myself to proper running clobber.

Plus i should of lost weight by then and look better in those rather unforgiving running tights!

I also lost 5lb this week, and im sure the running contributed to that.
jchocchip those shoe spikes actually sound like a good idea, may look out for some today.

AltShiftDelete · 04/02/2012 10:13

Too hungover to run today Blush which is a bugger as i spent yesterday itching to break into a run.

AltShiftDelete · 04/02/2012 10:14

madeinscotland 5lbs i one week is excellent!

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 04/02/2012 10:44

Thank you altshift, i had been away on my Minimoon the week before and put on 4lb in a week! so i think it has just come off very as quick as it went on as i was uber good with the diet this week.

Diet day off today so a spot of baking is on the cards with the kids and maybe a wee vodka or 2 this evening as a treat.

cece · 04/02/2012 10:58

Just in from w4r1. First time out in daylight and tried a new route along the canal. Bumped into one of my friends walking her dog though! I haven't told any of them I am running in case I woose out and give up! She has just text me to say well done though so feeling Smile

Also misunderstood the verbal instructions of the route I had been given so went the wriong way along the canal. Soo instead of a 'nice little loop' it turned into a mega 4.4 km Shock

thestringcheesemassacre · 04/02/2012 11:44

well done cece, i hate running into people I know. I look like a bag lady on the run in my old track bums.

i'm just in from week 7, run 3. It was hard with a capital HARD.
I honestly don't know how I move up next week to 28 mins.
These 25mins runs have been weird, first 2 times I killed it, last two I've really struggled.

Oh well. I can't run in snow. I can barely walk for slipping, so will have to can it for a bit I think. Will revert to SHRED instead.

jchocchip · 04/02/2012 12:31

Woot. I ran (slowly) for 31 minutes today! Dhs mp3 player isn't working so I let him do week 3 run 1 with laura with my mp3 and I ran to radio 2 as finding a working and charged up mp3 was beyond us... No one told me to stop so I ran all the way to the river which is about 5 mins walk from home. Will go to argos later and moan about the mp3 as it hasn't worked easily ever and now won't show anything on the display. Just starting to snow here, so glad we got out before the blizzard ! :)

weblette · 04/02/2012 13:32

Great running folks - well done jchocchip cece and cheesestring!

Can't believe I've just run for 20 mins without stopping, that was hard. Off to have a look at W6, good luck tomorrow Rebecca

It's flipping cold here, we're just a few miles from the place that recorded -11.1 last night - when I took ds2 to swimming this morning it was -8. Running in this cold does make me wheeze which doesn't help. No snow yet here, expecting it tonight.

cece · 04/02/2012 13:35

-7 on the car thermometer when I set off this morning but up to -5 by the time I got back.

nomorecake · 04/02/2012 14:53

just back from w5r2.
waaaaaaaahoooooooo!!
I did it.
didnt realise it was two 8mins until I started.
cant believe that 5 weeks ago I was struggling to do 60sec runs.
it wasnt easy. but I pushed myself. (when wanted to stop, I thought of that swiss marathon runner). finally finished. and now im so proud of myself. still cant quite beleive I did it.
yes!!
the falling snow and cold air felt great.
(can you tell im on a high!)
starving hungry now.
