Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

well, missed my run last night due to leaving my bag at home, was all psyched up as well and looked in the boot when I got to the gym.........nothing. So I am going to attempt W6R3 tomorrow

Keep running everyone!

OneLieIn · 02/03/2012 18:24

Funnys, let's compare notes tomorrow...w6r3 for me too...Confused

jchocchip · 02/03/2012 19:59

Ok had an extra rest day today (not quite a rest as I cycled 6 miles to work) and intend to get up early to do my first 5k parkrun tomorrow. I know I'll be last, but I'd like to get a time and can try and go faster the next time...

cinnamongreyhound · 02/03/2012 20:16

Good luck jchocchip!!

I managed 4.6K today but my running bits were faster, down to 6min 13s per Km at points so about 9kmph I reckon. My warm up walk is slow as I have to wander around after the dog! Felt I could have pushed more in 5-20mins but last 5 I did consider stopping early :(, didn't though :)

rusmum · 02/03/2012 20:56

W4r3 completed Grin thought I would never get there. Week 5 makes me feel ??! Such a jump. 5 mons kills me will never do 8 never mind 20! Knee sore but did it! Roll in sun and next run x

ObviouslyOblivious · 02/03/2012 21:00

I'm so tired and I need someone to kick me up the arse so I actually get out tonight (w4r2)!

rusmum · 02/03/2012 21:03

cinnamongreyhound · 02/03/2012 21:03

I was too obviouslyoblivious but feel better for my run, go for it!!

Well done rusmum, you'll do 8 mins and 20 mins just think when you thought 5 mins was impossible.

ObviouslyOblivious · 02/03/2012 21:04

JennyPiccolo · 02/03/2012 21:17

JennyPiccolo · 02/03/2012 21:28

are you getting bad calf pain? I think i could deal with it a bit better if it wasnt so sore. Am going to take 3 days rest i think.

rusmum · 02/03/2012 21:44

No my problem
Is my knees. So sore! My walk Was more a hobble! Really slowing me down and distracting me. But keeping going! You scared about week 5?

ObviouslyOblivious · 02/03/2012 21:53

I'm back, stretched out and relaxing on the sofa. It was tough tonight, worse than run 1, but hopefully run 3 might be easier. Well done everyone!

JennyPiccolo · 02/03/2012 22:04

Yeah. I genuinely dont think i can do it. Feck!

rusmum · 03/03/2012 07:02

JennyPiccolo · 03/03/2012 10:24

Will do. Think it will be around Monday before I try it out.

ifink · 03/03/2012 10:28

Hi everyone, just wondered what your thoughts are, I've got to take an unplanned break of 5 days...DH away thus no childcare....when I run next would you repeat wk5 r1 or see how I get on with r2?? Having got this far will be gutted if I lose any fitness now!!

rusmum · 03/03/2012 10:33

I would do run 1 again x

jchocchip · 03/03/2012 11:12

:):):) just keep plodding along everyone! Whoda thought that I could run 5k? I did it ran my local parkrun today :) I was the slowest, but I did run all the way! About 50 minutes ( I have been saying I'm slow, haven't I?) Was great though. All these fast runners lapping me and cheering me on at the end. One of the marshalls ran with me as the backstop and thay were a really friendly crowd. I'm going to do it again, not sure about next week, but soon, and should be able to work on my speed.

Woodlands · 03/03/2012 12:15

Woo hoo, that's fantastic jchochip! well done!

I've just done W8R2 after a whole week off - either DH or I have been out every evening this week so I couldn't go out in the evening, and the one morning I had planned to run we had a dreadful night with DS so DS and I stayed in bed late instead! Anyway, it went fine this morning - no stitch pain for a change and I enjoyed it. Ran about 3.5km in the 28 minutes. I think I might run again tomorrow if possible as Mondays are always tricky.

I like the idea of working on pace once I finish week 9 by speeding up when I feel comfortable and then slowing down again when necessary. I also like the idea of getting towards running 5k and then once I can do that, working on reducing the time.

Still can't believe I can actually do this! Am so impressed with the programme. My friend is also starting up running (though not sure she's using Couch to 5k) and we are aiming to do a Race for Life together in the summer.

cece · 03/03/2012 13:11

week 7 now finished but had heavy legs today. Felt sure I had covered hardly any distance, as tried a new route. Turns out it was the same distance -2 miles - that I can't seem to improve on!

The good news though is that I overtook 2 canal boats - surprising how motivating it is to overtake a very slow boat! LOL Perhaps I shouldn't mention the man in a canoe who overtook me - LOL

montague · 03/03/2012 13:15

I did week 5 run 2 today
I've started doing the shred dvd first as I feel more warmed up and I find it easier to run after doing it than just going out and running after the warm up walk
I can now run for 8 Minutes which is 7 minutes more than at the start of February!

weblette · 03/03/2012 13:53

I was with you on W8R2 today Woodlands, vvv hard after missing a few days but ran 4.4k in the 28 mins, 5.4k in total. Determined to crack the 5k when I do 30 mins.

Well done jchocchip Grin I really fancy the local parkrun but will need to muck about with ds2's swimming lessons.
