Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Sorry for random spelling. Bloody phone Grin

FunnysInTheGarden · 24/02/2012 15:44

Rusmum I know what you mean about breathing, so when I do a longer run I use the techniques I used when having DS2! Make a real effort to breathe deeply and slowly. It seems to work.

LookMaOneHand · 24/02/2012 18:15

Logging w8r1 done today. It felt great! :) I struggled with all three runs in week 7 so I was very grateful to have a good run.

yehudiwho · 24/02/2012 19:21

Queenrunninggeekmum where are you- your children are graduating and we need you

yehudiwho · 24/02/2012 19:36

due to go out tomorrow for wk6 r2 and am hoping for fleet footed joy and happiness - but will only be happy if qrgeekmum comes in to update us on her progress

I think the big girls who have graduated should stay and we should all go on together - actually getting to 5k after week 9 (and actually getting to week 9!) will be my problem .so we should wait for us all to get where we need -

debka · 24/02/2012 20:16

Finally started week 7! Wasn't bad at all . I am still impressively slow, doing the same distance as when I started, pretty much. My run is the same speed as my brisk walk Blush. I am planning to finish this then work on speed. Anyone got any idea at all how I might do that? I'm also hoping that as I lose weight it'll become easier- I've lost 4st since October but have another 8 or so maybe 9 to go so that's got to make a massive (ha!) difference.

rusmum breathing thing sounds horrid- I just don't think about it at all, try and let it come naturally, and haven't had a problem.

RebeccaMumsnet · 24/02/2012 20:21

W8R2 in the bag.

Loving it still so so chuffed with myself.

We do need some sorta graduation don't we?

I am planning on the bridge to 10k... we will see.

omydarlin · 24/02/2012 20:39

Week3 r2 done it seems to go quicker than all that stop/starting. For about ten seconds I forgot I was running and not walking. That is cool it is also very cool that 7 year old dd seems impressed with my " fitness work"

FrumpyPumpy · 24/02/2012 20:57

Did w3r1 yesterday, only I kept running as I felt great, did 20 mibs instead of the 2nd 3minuter. Today I have a bruise on my left knee: walking feels Fons, only hurts to kneel (have 2yo and 8mo). Is this running related?! I reeeeeealy don't want to stop : (

nomorecake · 24/02/2012 21:28

no advice for your knee TrickyWoo- but in awe that you are doing this and have two small children!! well done you, I wouldnt have had the energy!

28mins done whahoooooo!!!! wk8r1.
pushed myself a bit, so went faster and further today. proud of myself Smile.

anyone else getting idiots people revving their cars when you are crossing in front of them?? to make you jump/run faster. ive been laughing it off but its really annoying!!

Jnice · 25/02/2012 04:46

tricky a bruise sounds more like a knock than a running injury. Plenty of ice and maybe a neurofen?

I finally finished wk6, 25 mins on the treadmill was awful - but we had snow today and I didn't fancy pushing buggy. I got a call from DH before stretching saying baby crying and bottle empty so had to cut it short, hope I don't pay for that!

There needs to be a graduate thread so people can carry on and those still on here can watch and feel motivated.

Jnice · 25/02/2012 04:47

Oh, treadmill was in miles and I managed 2 in the 25 mins of running. I think this is about 3.4k only so a long way to go. I will be doing the bridge to 10 because I signed up for an 8k run at the end of march [gulp]

cece · 25/02/2012 07:49

jnice - that is exactly what I managed too - 2 miles in 25 mins. I just think that it is better than I could do 6 weeks ago and plan to build up distance once I have finished the 9 weeks. Smile

dotty2 · 25/02/2012 08:18

I HAVE BROKEN LAURA! getting ready to go out today, I realised she was playing at double speed - like a 45 at 78. What have I done? It's the same on all the podcasts, but my albums play fine (I phone novice). I downloaded her again to my husband's IPOD, rather than run half as long at twice the speed.

Anyway, once I got over that trauma, had a lovely run this am. W8R2, and went through the market as it was setting up, along the river, round the park and felt pretty good. The music in W8 turns a bit rubbish just when you need it though - anyone else find?

Sorry to hear about various setbacks and antisocial drivers etc. Turn up Laura and ignore them all. Was pleased to get a hello from some Proper Runners today! Have good weekend runs everyone.

ObviouslyOblivious · 25/02/2012 08:27

Dotty - I reckon you've accidentally hit the icon on the podcast play screen that says '1x'. It's probably now on 1 1/2 or 2x now! Hit it again (it's on the top right) until it says 1x :)

dotty2 · 25/02/2012 10:59

Thank you obviously - when DH finally got out of bed this morning he fixed it and laughed at me. Let me tell, you Laura at double speed is much less soothing and encouraging!

Woodlands · 25/02/2012 11:59

I bet, Dotty!

Just back from W8R1 in the sunshine. Hooray! Except i ran along a pretty dodgy deserted footpath and came upon a traveller site. Might stick to the roads next time!

jchocchip · 25/02/2012 12:05

Woot Did week 9 run 2 this morning around the park where our local park run takes place. I may go and start officially with them next week, but I think I would be the slowest! Dh did week 5 run 2 and survived but Laura told him about the 20 run next and I think he's scared... And I broke the 19 stone barrier on my Saturday weigh in, yippee. 18st 13 and shrinking...

dotty2 · 25/02/2012 12:20

That's fantastic, jchocchip - well done on the weight loss. And woodlands - with a name like that, you have to get off the beaten track!

cece · 25/02/2012 12:42

ichochcip - well done on the weight loss. Smile

I have come out as a runner to a few of my rl friends now and they are all being very supportive. They keep offereing to come for a run with me but bit scared of being too slow, so not taken any of them up on their kind offers yet!

BettyBathroom · 25/02/2012 14:56

Well done on your weight loss Jchocchip

Did W6R3 today and have finally started to lose weight thanks to myfitnesspal discouraging my regular nibbling.

OneLieIn · 25/02/2012 14:58

W5r3 the 20 minuter done and I probably could have gone on for longer. I went quite slowly as I thought it was more important to finish the 20 minutes than die halfway round. Also had an unbelievably tight hamstring (is that at the back of the thigh?) that I didn't want to push.

Next time I will try and up the pace.

At the end, she said I was a real runner GrinGrinGrinGrin

weblette · 25/02/2012 15:36

Well done with the running, folks, and some amazing weight losses!

I'd like to say I whupped W7R3's butt but am still running in my new trainers.

Anyway W8 here I come!

Target-wise I'm going to do the British 10K run in July, yikes...

cinnamongreyhound · 25/02/2012 18:07

Well done all those running today, especially OneLieIn for finishing the 20 minutes.

And well done Jchocchip on the weightloss that's fab!! I did W9R2 today and it was a good one! See you at the finish line Monday?

After being a but disappointed at my distance on Thursday, dh suggested that I approach my speed like the intervals of running and walking at te beginning so today every time I felt comfortable I increased my speed a bit and I covered 4.51K so am happier today! If I increase by another 300m on Monday Hmm that will be 4.8K so very close

arabellacaterpillar · 25/02/2012 19:13

week 8 run 2 DONE woohoo!! A good run, first 5 mins of running are always a struggle I find but then it settles and feels much better - anyone else find this?
Off out for a nice meal with DH and a few Wine have a good w/end everyone :)
