Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

jchocchip have you done it yet. Just waiting for neighbour's DD to come round and babysit, then I'm out for w7r3 as well. Got a bad cold and don't really want to but am going anyway(assuming babysitter turns up, she's quite late now ..). Ugh doorbell just rang.

See you in week 8.

FunnysInTheGarden · 12/02/2012 10:20

Having looked at the site I reckon my next run should be week 5 workout 3. 20 mins running sound scary! Might do wk 5 w/o 2 next Thursday to start off with then the 20 min on Saturday.

cocoachannel · 12/02/2012 11:31

Hi everyone. Well I've not been out for a few days but been shredding again. MUST go today despite horrible cough! Hope everyone's well.

yehudiwho · 12/02/2012 11:39

danm and blast

jchocchip · 12/02/2012 12:57

Yea did it! Diverted from route by river because it was too slippy for dh who did week 4 run 1 today in his new j

jchocchip · 12/02/2012 13:00

ogging bottoms. So week 8 starts on Tuesday. Hope you managed to get out, turningitaround :)

jchocchip · 12/02/2012 13:02

Found todays run a bit harder, I think because I had to change my route and run across some grass near the start. Oh well hope the ice melts soon!

HellonHeels · 12/02/2012 13:30

Nice running everyone! yehudi I had terrible big toe joint pain, turned out to be a bit of osteoarthritis :( It improved with orthotics and with trainers that stopped me overpronating.

I've been out for a short but fast bike ride, did 10 miles. Freezing out there!

bluechik · 12/02/2012 13:50

Hi everyone, just competed W5R1. Felt a bit sluggish.. Possibly because my toddler was up for several hours in the night... Feeling a bit worried about the 20 min run coming up in R3, any tips? Does Laura tell you regularly how you are progressing through the run? I don't have a watch and usually tuck my phone away so don't want to keep pulling it out to check progress. Could borrow DPs watch I guess.

yehudiwho · 12/02/2012 13:53

hellon did you stop running til the pain went or keep going? I am still using old trainers as didnt want to waste money on running shoes til I kept up the running - on week 5 now so will have to 'address my pronation' as we runners say Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 12/02/2012 14:35

Yes she does bluechik, I think it's at 5, 10, 15 and 19 but not 100% sure as it was two weeks ago for me now. If you get Runkeeper then the lady on there cuts in every 5 mins which is helping me with the longer runs.

Really looking forward to the lighter evenings so I can run in the forest in the evening as well as weekends!

100years · 12/02/2012 14:47

Hi again folks. I went out today and did W3R1 but ended up too far from home, so I carried on with a bit of run/walking and did an extra 3 sessions of 90mins running. So I did 13mins 30 running as opposed to 9 mins. The last running bit was very hard, but still enjoyed it. 4.21K for me today, so that 5K is looking do-able, even if I had to run/walk it.

For those of you who want a run with other people, can I point you in the direction of parkruns They are very friendly, in fact I'm going to do one in a few weeks, but I'll be run/walking it. There is no time limit, there are friendly volunteers who will cheer you on and show you where to go around the course. I would definitely, definitely recommend going along to one. It's free and a measured timed 5K. :)

AltShiftDelete · 12/02/2012 14:59

Ah gang, i have been temporarily retired. My scar has been compromised so i need complete rest for another month or so. Crack on and enjoy yourselves and i'll keep an eye on your progress from my rather sedentary sofa.

DorisIsWaiting · 12/02/2012 17:10

alt sit back on the sofa and wave the pompoms whilst enjoying your gorgeous bundle of joy! Hope things improve for you soon.

I did post yesterday but mn went offline and ate my post...which is probably good as it was asking for a kick in the backside to get back on track I've had a so so week, I took 2 x 2days rest instead of the 1 day I should have taken and then it showed when I did w5 r3 this morning (with a bit of a hangover) I had to walk for sixty second at 10 minutes (but I think it was brain rather than body that struggled) and I set off at too fast a pace I slowed it down after the walk and then spead up for the last 60 seconds. I think I will carry on to week 6 on tuesday but if it's too much I will redo week 5. Feel a bit Hmm as I'd run and extra 2 minutes on the r2 run so was feeling reasonabl;y confident.

Hey ho lost another 2 pounds on the scales thios morning so not all bad. Glad to see there are plenty of you still jogging along with me.

thestringcheesemassacre · 12/02/2012 17:11

so the ice technique seemed to work. My knee has been good today. I'm so relieved. Will crack on this week with my last run of W8 and then begin W9. EEK!!!

Jnice · 12/02/2012 17:27

Wow, nearing the end for some!

I will go out today and try to restart w6. I have been sick for long enough!

Jnice · 12/02/2012 17:28

alt plenty of rest, and stay with us, hope you heal soon!

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 12/02/2012 18:15

ah Alt enjoy your baby while you rest up and you will be back out hitting the pavement soon enough.

cheesemassacre glad your knee is better after the ice treatment and well done to reaching week 9 and almost at the end! Will you keep running or start another programme? I think at the min if i make it to the end i will just run for the exercise unless im brave enough to enter a poper race.

Finnished W2 R3 today and im now dreading tuesday but need to learn to stopping looking ahead and do it in the now.

jchocchip · 12/02/2012 18:29

Thanks for the link 100years. I've registered with parkruns and I'm thinking of joining in my local run when I finish week 9 in two weeks time Shock

debka · 12/02/2012 18:52

Dammit, I think I'm going to be stuck on bloody week 6 forever. Was due to do wk6 r3 (again) this evening but have this random pain in my side, kind of like a stitch, and can barely walk, let alone run. So that's me out of action until Wednesday, assuming I don't have my appendix removed or something in the meantime Hmm

MetalSian · 12/02/2012 19:56

Did W5R2 this evening.

The last 8 mins nearly killed me, don't know if it was stitch or some weird chest thing but I was in agony, surprised I managed to keep running.

The dreaded 20 min run on Tues =O.

ifink · 12/02/2012 20:12

Well done runners! Did wk2 run2 last night and it felt ok...I definitely feel like its getting a bit easier already. I'm the same MadeinScotland, I keep looking at the coming weeks and bricking but given it already feels a bit easier on w2, who knows maybe it won't be as bad as we think.....

arabellacaterpillar · 12/02/2012 20:45

Hi All, did week 6 run 3 this morning - straight running for 25 mins OMG it was really tough but i did manage to complete it :). My shins and calf muscles are still sore tonight, DH thinks I need new trainers.......for a proper runner!! I have been using a pair of addidas but i'm not sure if they a specifically for running.
Week 7 starts on Tues, good luck everyone

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 12/02/2012 21:22

Just back from W6R1 Grin Grin
It was tough but for 2 reasons I think:

  1. I went out too soon after dinner
  2. I found it hard to slow down Shock Confused

ifink I was just like you in those weeks, the first run of a new week was hard and by the third it was much easier so you will manage up the weeks just like the rest of us runners :)
arabella omg 25mins!! I just checked to see if I'm doing the same plan as you - yep - gulp!!

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 12/02/2012 21:23

Oh and I covered 4.34K - not too far off?!
