Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Hi bluechik well done for braving the snow!

Jnice · 05/02/2012 15:32

rebecca great work! Feels good doesn't it? Wk 6 steps back a bit at first, back to 5-8-5 mins running. So not scary at all!

RebeccaMumsnet · 05/02/2012 16:08

That's good to hear Jnice, thanks Thanks

Woodlands · 05/02/2012 16:39

I should be doing W6R1 today but we have so much snow on the ground it would seem a bit foolish! As soon as it melts I'll be out there again.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/02/2012 17:01

W6R3 done! I wore an extra pair of socks to help keep my feet dry, shoes and one pair of socks wet but my feet stayed dry. I couldn't go my usual way as there was no footfall at all and snow was too deep! I followed the purple walk but at one point couldn't see anymore posts and was lost! I was running uphill at the end and had no idea where I was and I was so tired so started walking, 30 seconds later Laura said there's 60 seconds left so I started again and did some extra. So not really completed as it should have been 25mins with no walking but under the circumstances I'm pleased. Eventually found my way home but was out for nearly 55 mins Shock. Not sure now whether to repeat or move on to W7?

100years · 05/02/2012 18:12

I have another cold. Courtesy of my LO! Bless her, she has been quite wronged with it recently, now me and OH also have the cold, and I've just started coughing again :( I'm not expecting it to last too long, but again the running is taking a back seat.

thestringcheesemassacre · 05/02/2012 18:50

I'd hit w7 cinnamon, it sounds like you did really well.

Trying to work out when I can start W8, maybe tomorrow morning since it seems to have melted pretty well here.

MetalSian · 05/02/2012 19:36

Was sposed to run today but was busy.
Can't do tomorrow either so that will be 4 days off =[.
Will have to run three days in a to catch up I think.

debka · 05/02/2012 19:44

Too much snow here to get out, I'd either slip over or trip over! First time I've missed a run since we started. Off to Center Parcs tomorrow though, hopefully will get wk 7 under my lengthy belt by the time we're back.

debka · 05/02/2012 19:45

metalsian tempting though doing 3 in a row may be, it's not a good idea, you'll wear yourself out and probably pick up an injury. Better have a rest day between runs.

rusmum · 05/02/2012 20:25

Braved the snow for w1r1 Grin didn't manage 1st 3 mins but did all rest. So will treat it as a practice and do it 3 more times. Enjoyed the challenge x new shoes brill x x x x no bad knees

rusmum · 05/02/2012 20:40

I meAnt w3 r1 lol Smile

MetalSian · 05/02/2012 20:58

Yeah I know debka just frustrating missing a run... especially because it was only because DP wouldn't wake up early enough for me to fit it in.

Might try tomorrow, after my 12 hour day out of the house for college 0.o
But the likelihood of that is low.

cocoachannel · 05/02/2012 22:25

Well done everyone who has braved the snow!

Debka Envy at Center Parcs trip!

AltShiftDelete · 06/02/2012 07:44

How's everyone today? Who's braving it? On a rest day here but no pain, makes me feel like a wuss for struggling so hard yesterday (on a treadmill!).

Metalsian don't do three in a row, maybe think of this as a pratice week?

noseynoonoo · 06/02/2012 09:04

I'm really cheesed off. Today was supposed to be Wk5 r3 but the snow is so deep here it is impossible. I'd have to run in my wellies! I can't see the snow melting any time soon either.

Grrrr!

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 06/02/2012 09:53

Well done all those managing to run on snow!

I missed yesterday as very icy and when it cleared i had to go to work but going to do W1R3 this afternoon and will hope the frost will have cleared so i dont slip on my arse.

thestringcheesemassacre · 06/02/2012 10:22

Morning all,

I did w8 run 1 this morning. Was a hard first 14 mins and then the second were much more manageable. Feeling positive again now, I think early morning running suits me better.

I'm trying to think about how to continue after this is over. Do I do the bridge to 10k or just work on 30mins/5km pace for a bit. I'd love to the local park run (Bushy Park if anyone is close) on a saturday morning.

Keep on going everyone, I have to pinch myself that I can do this now.

BettyBathroom · 06/02/2012 10:27

Was meant to run yesterday but the snow is too deep, very frustrating - will do The Shred until I can back outside to pound the pavements.

DorisIsWaiting · 06/02/2012 10:47

Hi all, We have no snow here so V jealous of all those who do! (Even if it does interefere with your runs.)

I'm still on my (fairly) trusty treadmill and it (still) doesn't like the cold!

Starting w5 tonight can't believe I've got this far... really pleased, and slightly scared but that's how I feel at the strat of every new week.

thestringcheesemassacre · 06/02/2012 11:33

My new Adidas leggings have just arrived. My arse looks huge!! But they feel good, much smarter than 5 year old track bums.

MadeInScotlandFromGirders · 06/02/2012 12:02

Well that is W1 inder my belt, now to phyc myself up for W2 on Wednesday.

Ran in my hoodie and t-shirt like last 2 runs but i was roasting by the time i finnished the first run so i spent the rest of it with a bulky jumper tied round my already large bottom! may had to see if i have anything lighter, also most of the ice had cleared so no slips today.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/02/2012 12:47

I am planning to continue with a 30 min run every other day thestringcheesemassacre. I am not covering anywhere near 5K at the moment and feel it may be some time before I do. I personally don't feel that I have time in my life at the moent to run any longer than I am but I hope to get better at running and don't have any further goals so far!

gettingalifenow · 06/02/2012 13:55

Have just done W4R2 and nearly gave up but I made it! Feeling pleased with myself - 4 weeks ago I think I'd have keeled over if I'd tried to do this run so it's obviously working taking the gradual approach .

Looking forward to the half way point in 3 more runs.....

LookMaOneHand · 06/02/2012 14:33

W5R3 done!! Grin

I'm so happy - this 20 minute run was the thing I've had my eye on the whole time, the milestone I thought of as "if I can get to that one and get through it, I'll know I can finish this thing."

And now I have. :) :) :)

I'm on the treadmill, and in utter awe of those who are getting out in the snow to go running on slippery pavements. Well done!!!
