Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Thanks for shred info, it's £4.99 on amazon so not too pricey for those waiting for payday! I am happy running at the minute and have never done home DVDs, although loved aerobics classes when I did them.

cece it depends when you go to bed of 10 is too late! Running does make me feel quite wired for a while afterwards but I find I fall asleep easier the nights I have run. But then lot of things stop me falling asleep, can't do anything I have to think about for an hour before or if I'm out and I've driven I need a sit down before I attempt bed.

I also don't see anyone else while our running, I'm hoping to be closer to running the whole thing before I pass anyone out running :)

Ifancyanewname · 11/01/2012 07:43

morning all, I'm off running tonight w2r2, I'm really looking forward to it, just getting out the house on my own to ponder in the peace and quiet is doing wonders for me! Its so nice having the mental break and I've lost 5lbs since starting too :) I'm really looking forward to the next few weeks when I start running more, I'd love to be fit enough to chuck on my trainers when its a nice day and go out for a run!

VelmaKelly · 11/01/2012 08:46

Redid wk3r3 this morning. Much better. I'm really enjoying this. No was grumpy yesterday because it was a rest day. Who'd have thought!Grin

Stylelostinlabour · 11/01/2012 08:50

Hello lovely runners! Well done to all still sticking with it. Went out last night with DH for the first time ever and we managed to run ok shuffle the whole 2.7 mile route together so impressed!

But my calfs felt like I had tight balls in them and really hurt so think I need to stretch a lot more before a jog

Keep going everyone you are all do fantastic

jchocchip · 11/01/2012 09:30

Just done week 3 run 1 and feeling rather pleased with myself!!! :D

topsmart · 11/01/2012 09:32

Morning all!

Managed my 6am run! In the dark and in proper rain! W1R3, though i'm like you rusmum, think I'll stick at W1 for a bit longer - I'm managing all the runs but I'm flipping shattered by the end. And I'm not really sure if I'm keeping up the pace during the walking bits, I have a tendency to get distracted...

Thanks again sciencegeekmum for setting this up, I am astounded that I've managed this
(ha! assuming you are the same person as newyeargeekmum and not an imposter)

topsmart · 11/01/2012 09:33

PS. 3 runs + low-carb diet = 3lbs lost. Whoop!

DorisIsWaiting · 11/01/2012 09:37

Style my calves were tight too last night did some stretches but I think I need to stretch a little before I start too. But I did it W2R1 complete!

I was so much more comfortable last night tho' as my new sports bra had arrived it's a new shock absorber one with two lots of fastenings (sadly i've had to go up to a H!!!! cup (normally a G)) but by god does it work the ache I normally have in my shoulders was completely gone and much less bounce!

Lotsofchooks · 11/01/2012 10:12

Wk2 r3 completed this morning, moving onto Wk 3 on Friday .

noseynoonoo · 11/01/2012 10:27

Just done Wk1 R3 - was comfortable but the music was awful! I was chased by a dog at one point and there was a large woman being trained by her PT. It's interesting how much happens just running around a park.

openyerlugholes · 11/01/2012 10:27

Well done topsmart! That's brilliant!

style I do lots of stretching before and after running as I tore my tendon a few months ago and am not going through that again! It really helps. Am not sore in between runs atall now.

lotsofchooks we are running buddys! Completed wk2 r3 this morning and will be into wk3 on friday!

Run this morning was brilliant. Am much, much faster now and way overshot my house on the run back. So did an extra minute full out sprint to get back. Felt so good.

Had a few niggly twinges starting off in my back and thigh, but they disappeared as soon as I got going and feel great now.

Looking forward to the challenge of wk 3.

topsmart · 11/01/2012 10:47

Right back atcha, openyerlugholes, that's awesome - I dream of running that fast!

Vajazzler · 11/01/2012 10:59

W2R2 done! Went with my super skinny friend and it made me push myself harder so i am absolutely knackered!

3.5lbs lost this week.

Keep up the good work ladies Grin

cece · 11/01/2012 11:24

Tackling the technical hitch of not being able to get the podcst onto DH ipod.

Will I be able to download it onto a cheapie mp3 player? Does anyone know.. Looking at one of those £10 or £20 ones....

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/01/2012 12:39

I'm at work, just finished W2R2 around Hampstead Heath, my legs hurt.

uphillbothways · 11/01/2012 13:10

I did it :o :o :o

After a couple of weeks of studiously ignoring the previous C25K thread whenever it came up on "Threads I'm on" I've done my first run!

I was feeling mopey this morning - DP is away on a business trip, combined with PMT hormones - and I just thought, well, going for a run can't make me feel worse really, can it.

Dead proud of myself now, it's the first exercise I've done in a long time.

HalleLouja · 11/01/2012 13:15

Surely Rebecca if anyone is allowed to mn at work its you Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 11/01/2012 13:20

Totally agree Ifancyanewname about the time to yourself, was saying that to dh yesterday!!

Well done everyone, we're all doing so well!

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/01/2012 13:29

Whoop uphillbothways, well done!!
Feels good doesn't it Grin

MNetting at work is kind of a given Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 11/01/2012 13:33

Should be fine cece, you can download it no matter what mp3 player you have I'm pretty sure!

ScienceGeekMum · 11/01/2012 13:53

Well done all you runners, especially uphill for finally getting started! You can't back out now, keep going with the programme!

Just to remind you the nhs website here has the podcasts, tips on running in all weather and other helpful information. Even if you're using other apps it might be worth checking out.

They have forums there too but none as good as MN!

And yes, I am GeekMum, I just change my focus from time to time! Wink if I get to the end I promise I will become RunningGeekMum Grin

Aw I love this thread. It's MN little corner of encouragement and motivation.

topsmart you will be racing along the roads in no time!

Massive well done uphill!

feralgirl · 11/01/2012 15:01

Yes! Got to the end of week 2! I am so pleased with myself. DH and I were wondering together the other day why exactly it is that we haven't done this before as it just feels so good! And I actually enjoyed myself today, despite lots of twinges.

I honestly thought that going out for a pramble every day was enough exercise whilst on mat leave and that I was being proactive about my PND by just walking but the difference in my mood in the last couple of weeks of running and getting my pulse up is amazing. I had actually forgotten what it was like not to be pissed off and angry all the time.

So a huge huge thanks to C25K, to all of you and especially to Sciencegeekmum for motivating me and keeping me going. Thanks Thanks Thanks

thestringcheesemassacre · 11/01/2012 15:38

Good work feral girl, I agree the endorphin rush is great.

I went back to weight watchers today. Good to be in the zone again. Run 2 w4 tomorrow morning. Happy days!

yehudiwho · 11/01/2012 15:54

sciencegeekmum you already are queenrunninggeekmum and should name change right away because without you we worker runners would not be a hive at all.
jchocchip whats week three like? I'm very nervous - i will be running after dropping at school as I am working from home tomorrow (which I engineered as it fitted in with running) Blush
