Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

Helloooo - I don;t do W1R2 until tomorrow (2 day gap rather than 1 as its hard to run at the weekend with ds as a single parent) probably helpful as my tendon was so bad yesterday I don't think I could have run today (couldn't even do the stretches it was so painful) and I could hardly move yesterday which has eased up a bit.

Bought cheapo trainers and did a gentle 20 minute wii fit step class last night and will do another one tonight and tehn off again for W1R2 tomorrow.

I can't beleive I:

a) did W1R1
b) actually intend to do W1R2!!!!

Also would like to keep up 5k runs 3 times a week to my own music after the 9 weeks but I neeeeeeed Laura until then.

ScienceGeekMum · 08/01/2012 20:31

BaDaBing Laura is the narrator on the nhs c25k podcasts, which are very helpful if you're just starting out.

I nearly died after the w1 runs too, but managed all the w2 runs yesterday, wasn't as bad as I thought (although was horrendously puffed out and aching!)

Week2 Run 1 completed today xxx

debka · 08/01/2012 20:40

O my, I'm off for a day and you get waaaay ahead of me! Taken about 10 mins to catch up, only skim read Blush.

Which sea are you near though pan to nearly see a porpoise?

I just did wk2r2, not bad at all, managed all the runs. I really notice when there's even a slight incline though! Am planning to go out again tomorrow (naughty) to finish wk2.

Anyone else really hate it when your freezing cold hands take off your bra just before you get in the shower? Grin

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 08/01/2012 20:51

W1R2 completed this morning, I don't ache as much as I did then!! :)
Fingers crossed R3 will be on Tuesday.

I also use Laura but can't get an image of her at a desk with stopwatch in one hand, coffee in the other and feet up, out of my head Envy Wish she sounded like she was joining in. lol

ohbugrit · 08/01/2012 20:58

"I also use Laura but can't get an image of her at a desk with stopwatch in one hand, coffee in the other and feet up, out of my head"

Grin so true!

Hey weblette, a month ago I didn't even dare to dream that I'd be able to run for 20 straight minutes, but i can now - it's properly, truly amazing.

Even more so if you could see the size of me Grin

openyerlugholes · 08/01/2012 21:06

. Last run was wk2 r1. Need to sort these blistered scabs (ugh) out before I run tomorrow. Very sore.

My bb app worked perfectly on my last run, and it was a dry day, so have deduced from this that letting the phone get dripping wet in the rain isn't good for it...

AbbyLou · 08/01/2012 21:28

Thanks for the new thread, can't believe we need one already. I've done W1 R2 and plan to do R3 tomorrow. Had a bit of a longer break than I wanted between R1 and R2 due to a painful calf strain on first attempt at R2. However, all sorted now so I am back at it and looking forward to tomorrow.

MABS · 08/01/2012 22:22

didn't do anything today or yesterday, will do 3k tomorrow am.

mazzi2fly · 08/01/2012 22:33

I've only at W1R1 but Run 2 tomorrow after I've dropped the children at school and nursery. I work from home on Mondays & Thursdays, so hope to take some time out to do some running, then go on my third run on Saturdays.

My old trackie bottoms are a bit half mast and flap round my legs when I run. I'm considering ordering some leggings/running tights. Does anyone have any reccomendations?

Kewcumber · 08/01/2012 23:11

mazzi - my leggings are old sainsburys ones which have patches of colour missing so have been morphed into running leggings - not sure if thats terribly helpful to you!

VelmaKelly · 09/01/2012 05:13

Hi all!
Did w3r3 this morning, but think I will do it again. Just come back from holidays by the beach where it is FLAT to home where it is hilly. Big difference! But I did see a very pretty rosella. (I think) . All green and blue and yellow

My running tracks are a bit old. Shows my age. Grin. Eurythmics Adele and some Weird Al Yankovic. Also a bit of Tom Lehrer. Oh and Cocos Lunch.

But I'm an Aussie therefore weird!!!

Jnice · 09/01/2012 05:19

Finished w2r2 today an it felt pretty good. I preferred the music from week 1 though.

I am doing stroller fit tomorrow at local community centre and next run will be Tuesday. Haven't weighed myself since last Monday so will find out tomorrow if this is making any difference.

Are any of you using myfitnesspal? If so, please add me. I am jbm1972

Thanks!

Jnice · 09/01/2012 05:21

Abby are you the one who felt a pop in her calf? If so I'm glad you have recovered enough to start again.

MetalSian · 09/01/2012 08:50

Just marking my place, finished W1R3. Will be doing W2R1 tomorrow.

AphraBehn · 09/01/2012 08:54

There you are!
Attempted W1R3 yesterday but my iPod died 3 minutes in :( Did the route as a brisk walk but feel like I've cheated. As I hadn't managed to complete all the running parts anyway I'm going to repeat W1.

Well done to everyone that has run, walked or shuffled through the podcast.

Aseaandthreestars · 09/01/2012 09:05

Morning everyone. Thanks Geekmum for shiny new thread. Congratulations to all of us who are still going. We do rock.

W2R1 is finished. Not easy, but I'm now feeling that lovely hot, tired and smug as hell feeling.

I saw two big green birds in the park. Not sure what they are - parakeets maybe. Will have to get photo of them so that someone can tell me their names (not names, titles? what am I thinking of?)

LookMaOneHand · 09/01/2012 10:19

KinkyDorito I wish I had a medal to give you - I can so relate to not wanting to run into people you know while you're working out - especially not teenagers that you'll be teaching! Remember, whatever they think now of you in your leggings, you are setting a fantastic example for them. You did fantastically well to walk on by while they were watching and then add the run in after.

In my case, it's the fact that I use the gym near work, and occasionally see people whom I work with (and worse, who report to me). But at least they're adults.

I'm so intrigued by the podcasts you're all listening to. I'm not using anything like that, I'm just following the schedule here. I assume that it's the same schedule??? Does 'Laura' (or the American guy) really help keep you motivated? What am I missing out on?

Good luck all who are running today - I'm off to the treadmill now for w2r1 - will check in when it's done!

mazzi2fly · 09/01/2012 10:21

Morning! Just completed W1R2. It felt good! Mind you, I was still bright red in the face, puffing and blowing, but I did it!
Got to settle down to some work now.

I'm very impressed at everyone's birdwatching capabilities while running. I can identify a blackbird but that's it really.

nomorecake · 09/01/2012 10:23

Kinky - well done for starting! i found that the hardest part.

but saying that.. w1 r3 is looming today, and already my lazy side is trying to make excuses not to do it.

The fear of physical exertion is rising within me!!! Shock

Aseaandthreestars · 09/01/2012 10:34

Kinky - line up for medal-pinning purposes - you definitely deserve one.

Mazzi - I can't identify them. I couldn't even remember the word for a name. I didn't expect to see bright green birds in a north London park, and I'm still not 100% sure that they're real.

Cake - get your trainers on. You are a runner! Do you hear me? A runner! Off you go!

KinkyDorito · 09/01/2012 10:38

OneHand Thank you for that! NHS Couch to 5k link here. It is very hard when you feel self conscious. Just after I'd had DS, I was very overweight - a bit heavier than now - so I took myself to the gym during the day (on mat leave) only to find out that all of Year 11, including my form group, were allowed to go there in their PE lesson. They all sat on reclining bikes reading magazines whilst I looked fit to keel over. I did it, but it was very Blush. It's hard because they are so image conscious at that age, and I'm very self conscious.

Thanks also to nomorecake.

Everyone is doing so well! I've just got to decide when I'm going to go out tomorrow...

KinkyDorito · 09/01/2012 10:39

Thanks Asea Smile

Ishtar2410 · 09/01/2012 11:51

W4 R1 done. This morning at 6.30 - before DD was up for school. Made everything else a bit rushed, but we got to school on time. Now looking at moving some of my morning tasks to the evening.

Not really into the music on the NHS podcasts, but can just about put up with it.

It's great to see how everyone's doing...keep at it!

openyerlugholes · 09/01/2012 12:14

Afternoon fellow runners!

Just finished wk2 r2. Knackered. Had a really strong wind to battle against all the way back which wiped me out! Gorgeous day though so really enjoyed it. And blisters not half as bad today yay!

Everyone is doing so well

hazie that's great that your little niece has turned a corner. Such a relief for you.

abby glad your calf is on the mend.

To all those running despite feeling self-conscious, well done you. I only have a stone to lose but used to be 3 1/2 stones overweight and remember that half the battle of getting out to exercise was in my own head.

When I see those with a bit of weight to lose out running, I always think 'well done you' and feel so proud of them. That's how I feel about all of you.
