We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

arabellacaterpillar · 09/01/2012 21:47

Oh and thanks for the new thread sciencegeek, brilliant!

fatcaaah · 09/01/2012 21:49

Well done everyone who's lost weight. I haven't but then I am still working my way through the Christmas chocolate. It's nearly gone now.

Then dh brought cadburys cream eggs home this evening. Bastard.

cece · 09/01/2012 21:55

W1R1 now done, despite not having the podcast.
Used the stopwatch on my phone. Smile

Didn't bump into any other runners - there was a bonus to going so late. LOL

Now very sweaty and can't feel my feet but feeling good!

ScienceGeekMum · 09/01/2012 22:06

Grin at fatcaaah's DH!

Well done Cece!

AbbyLou · 09/01/2012 22:09

Well done Cece on the run but also on not letting a little problem be an excuse for not going!

happyAvocado · 09/01/2012 23:00

done my first run/walk mix & a good stretch afterwards, that is why is better to do this regime after work
I would not be able to do proper yoga stretches on the floor in the shower :)

PaddingtonsMarmalade · 10/01/2012 06:30

ah no Sad Sad I have done something hideous to my knees and have got to go to the dr. Even with ibuprofen I was in pain yesterday and today I can't really walk properly.

I'm totally gutted (which is odd given how I typically feel about sport). I feel like I'm going to not be able to run, will get left behind, have spent money on trainers I won't be able to use and I was so enjoying this thread and having some time to myself to do something I was starting to actually enjoy. Cannot even cover how pissed off I am Sad Sad

turningitaround · 10/01/2012 06:35

Perfecting how horrible for you - am crossing my fingers that doctor says it's just start up pain. Take care.

KinkyDorito · 10/01/2012 06:49

I am going to read back through in a minute.

I got up at 6am, even though DS has had me up most of the night. I got ready. I went out the door. I got to the top of the road. I came home again.

It was blummin freezing. Not a little cold, painful cold. I was shaking, and couldn't warm up.

So, I obviously need to review my kit. I didn't have time to change and go out again as DH needed to go to work and I wouldn't have got back in time Sad. I'll try again on Thursday morning when I was next due to go. I do think the 6am start will suit me at the moment, so I'm going to try and get it right.

What does everyone wear to go out running in the cold?

KinkyDorito · 10/01/2012 06:53

Perfect I struggle with my knees so you have my sympathy Sad. Once you are feeling better, start to do exercises to strengthen the muscles that support your knees. If you google female knee pain you will get suggestions of exercises that you can do. And don't worry about getting left behind. The rate I'm going, I'll still be plodding about at the back of the thread on Wk1 Grin.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/01/2012 07:25

That's horrible PerfectingPaddingtonsHardStare, you can still be part of the thread and your trainers won't be wasted as you'll use them once your knees better :).

I wear t-shirt and hoody on top and joggers on the bottom KinkyDorito. I have been cold on the warm up walk one evening but as soon as I got running was fine. Hope Thursday is more successful for you.

Going out at 6 when dh home tonight for W2R2, he is a power lifter and trains 3x a week and has decided to do it tonight too so slightly Angry at him as it makes our evening a bit of a struggle with two ds to get sorted!

weblette · 10/01/2012 08:26

Sorry to hear that PPHS Sad How frustrating for you.

Happy running to everyone going out today, I'm just off to do W2R1 Smile

thederkinsdame · 10/01/2012 08:32

This thread has moved so fast! Well I'm in my gear, waiting for the courier so hoping to get out and back on track today.

Perfect sorry to hear you are suffering. Don't be discouraged. You haven't wasted your money. An injury might put you back but you can still get out eventually, even if you walk for a while. I'm still on wk1 (about r5 I think?!) as I still can't run the whole 8 mins. I am sure that in a few weeks you will zoom past me onto week 5. Grin Remember it's not a race - everyone is going at their own pace. It's best to do things gradually rather than plough on keeping up with everyone else then getting discouraged. Hope the dr can help.

KinkyDorito · 10/01/2012 09:02

cinnamon thanks Smile. It was proper bitter and I was shaking! I think gloves, hat and fleece might be needed if it's like that again. I'll just be mafting when I run. I went out in 3/4 leggings, tshirt and thin hoody. Think I was a bit optimistic Grin.

Panadbois · 10/01/2012 09:13

Crap Sad

Went out for my w2r1 today and even the 5 minute brisk walk had me wanting to turn back. I managed three runs but gave up then.

My legs hurt [big baby emotion] sooo much. What am I doing wrong? This can't be addictive, it's torture!

Might do week 1 again, or it'll put me off for good.

As penance, I will go to my first zumba tonight.

(Aanyone else thinks that Laura sound a bit like Kirsty Location Location Allsop?)

thederkinsdame · 10/01/2012 09:54

Panadbois I guess that was your 4th run? My legs were agony after run 4 (even though still on week 1 Blush) It seems to be something we are all suffering from at the same point in training. Hope your legs feel better later.

weblette · 10/01/2012 10:11

Pan Sad

Hope you enjoyed your run thederkins I felt rubbish for first 10 mins but it got easier after that. I'm a bit achy after conditioning class yesterday.

Today was my first run in new clobber, top is bright pink but that's deliberate as a) I run through the woods so want to be visible and b) it was the cheapest there Grin

I did get one smart alec comment about needing sunglasses but a death ray stare and 'is that the best you can come up?' reply put paid to that Grin

dotty2 · 10/01/2012 10:12

Hello everyone - done two more since I last checked in, W1/3 and W2/1. I've started using the NHS podcast, which I find really good - couldn't get the hang of the app, and kept missing prompts. I ran past some kids hanging out down the local shops last night and was bracing myself for sarky comments, but I just kept on going. Finding it quite manageable so far, but can't quite believe I'm going to be able to run for 30 whole minutes anytime this century. We'll see.

Sorry to hear about the sore legs, Pandabois - maybe you could try doing some stretches when you're done - that can really help. Or do you think you could be going too fast? Hope they're better soon - don't give up. And I hope you have some good news about your knees from the dr, perfect.

thestringcheesemassacre · 10/01/2012 10:29

Hello RUNNERS,

w4 run 1 done this morning undercover of darkness. 3/5 mins runs and I was thinking I wouldn't manage but I did. Whoop whoop.

I have refused to spend money on clothes to run in so shuffle about in trackies and a hoodie. I figure if I can make it to 5kms I will reward myself with some nicer attire.

Hope everyone is kicking it still.

kandinskysgirl · 10/01/2012 10:35

Hello everyone...you moved without telling me Envy Grin.

Running has somewhat stalled the last few days, have been busy organising the trip...it was very strange buying summer clothes in January!!

However I will be running week 1 run 3 today.

dotty2 · 10/01/2012 10:37

PS - re running kit, wear I wear warm tracky bottoms, a long sleeved t-shirt and a light semi-waterproof running jacket that belonged to DH, but which he is now too slim for! Handy, but shaming...

OutInAllWeathers · 10/01/2012 10:51

Hi everyone! I lurked about reading the other thread feeling too nervous (I've got loads of weight to lose!) BUT you were all so motivating and encouraging that I wanted to join you!

So da da da I did it!! W1R1 this morning!

Feel so proud of myself, so thanks all of you Smile

thestringcheesemassacre · 10/01/2012 10:52

thederkinsdame · 10/01/2012 10:53
