Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

not too late, strawberrypie. Welcome. Smile

thanks everyone! I did at some points think, got to post on here that I did it, not that I caved in mid run.

feralgirl- totally get what you are saying about lack of motivation. but we didnt come this far to just give up.
imagine summer in the park, being all fit and active, and just imagine your family and friends telling you how fab you look and asking how you did it.
I plan on telling people that I just cut out cake and drank more water!!

anyway just came back to add that I actually had a little cry, on cool down walk back home yesterday. I have never jogged for that long before.
Smile

BettyBathroom · 27/01/2012 14:34

Done W4R1 today - last 5 mins was tough...legs felt heavy and sore - heart rate was fine though - hoping for a more comfortable run on Sunday.

jchocchip · 27/01/2012 15:00

Hi strawberrypie, well done on starting.
nomorecake, I was emotional yesterday too. Never thought that being able to jog for a few minutes would make me so happy.

Wish it was a run day today! Will go for a walk later but it is not the same...

Aseaandthreestars · 27/01/2012 15:35

Well done everyone who's still going. I can see lots of weight loss and some toned legs appearing on this thread.

As a little boost, here are some of the benefits of regular exercise.

Taken from the NHS website,
It's medically proven that people who do regular physical activity have:
up to a 35% lower risk of coronary heart disease and stroke
up to a 50% lower risk of type 2 diabetes
up to a 50% lower risk of colon cancer
up to a 20% lower risk of breast cancer
a 30% lower risk of early death
up to an 83% lower risk of osteoarthritis
up to a 68% lower risk of hip fracture
a 30% lower risk of falls (among older adults)
up to a 30% lower risk of depression
up to a 30% lower risk of dementia

Feel free to add your own. Googling and cheating allowed.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 27/01/2012 17:47

Welcome Strawberry

People who do regular exercise have
60% less chance of obese children
40% fewer arguments with said children
100% less stressful clothes shopping experience
100% less embarrassing public stair climbing incidents

Evening all,
I'm psyching myself up for tomorrows mornings 25 min run. So I watched this again today and thought we could all do with the motivation again. I know it was on the last thread. But watch it. Really watch it. I cry everytime.

well done everyone for plugging on, if we can make it to the spring think how nice it will be to run in the sunshine and flowers. We'll be proper runners then!

Keep going

rusmum · 27/01/2012 18:02

Wow girls you all doing fab! I Findlay feel well after a horrid cold all week. Last run Sunday, next run tomorrow. Trying cross trainer tonight to see what breathing like. Chucking it down here x Grin

rusmum · 27/01/2012 18:10

Can you link the u tube again? Not seen it

thestringcheesemassacre · 27/01/2012 18:19

sorry Blush

Aseaandthreestars · 27/01/2012 18:27

Haha. Them's some good stats Geekmum.

There is lots of evidence that regular exercise can improve cognitive functioning (proper evidence, not friend of a friend stuff - I had to learn a lot of it for an exam).

strawberrypie · 27/01/2012 18:52

Thanks for the welcome, fab video cheesestring, I've not seen that before and it's so inspirational. Good luck for your 25 mins tomorrow, I'm sure you will nail it! :)

Hope your LO is feeling better Jnice and all those who are under the weather do too.

Jnice · 27/01/2012 18:57

Thanks for the stats geekmum and ppGrin

Ds's fever has gone so we went out for wk5r1. Off to the track as usual. Half way round a snooty man stopped me and told me my stroller wasn't allowed as it damages the track. Apparently there is a sign that I missed. But he basically said something along the lines of the track being for real athletes and proper runners.

It took every ounce of motivation for me to leave but continue the run up and down the public footpath. I am upset because he was so rude, fair enough about the stroller but why be an arse about it?

cocoachannel · 27/01/2012 18:59

Week four done. Six mins felt looonnnnngggggg!

WEEKEND! Hooray!

rusmum · 27/01/2012 20:15

Wimped out as pissing down. Cross trainer done though! Would you continue from where I was or go back to w1 after a week off? Wink

MoneyBunny · 27/01/2012 20:21

Jnice OMG what an ARSE!!! Some people just dont know how to do things in a nice way. Knob.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 27/01/2012 20:21

Jnice when you are running 5k on a regular basis, you can thump that man then run away!

Well done on continuing the run. Know exactly what you mean, if he'd been nice you would have been Blush but ok with it. Being mean is unnecessary.

I hope you won't quit because of him. I want you to become a 'real athlete' just to spite him!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 27/01/2012 20:22

Well done Cocoa

Rusmum try starting on w2 but take it easy and don't worry if you have to do more repeats of it before you move on.

rusmum · 27/01/2012 20:58

Thanks will brave whatever weather tomorrow (please don't rain!) Wink

DorisIsWaiting · 27/01/2012 21:15

W4 R1 done!!!!! was going to wuss out and do it tomorrow (I know I know!) but dh not so gently encouraged me and I feel loads better for it . Now to read what you've all been up to.

ManyMomentsOfMadness · 27/01/2012 21:17

Oh zero energy today :(

BUT did do W4R1 - my goodness it was tough. I just wish I could say I was also shouting c'mon during the 5mins but it was more like F%@# Blush

debka · 27/01/2012 21:29

Well done all those still sticking with it, and thanks for those stats, what an incredible difference this bit of exercise makes.

Did wk5 r2 tonight- that's 8 mins running, 5 walking, 8 running, and I SMASHED it, OMG it was like everything came together, and I properly enjoyed it. Great feeling, now I am almost looking forward to 20 mins straight on Sunday!!! Did fall over half way through, I think there was a bit of ice, but minimal damage and fortunately the teenage girls at the bus stop were looking the other way Grin

Bearcat · 27/01/2012 21:31

Whoever would have thought that 3 weeks ago I could have run for 5 minutes.
Would have given up after the first minute run if I had been alone.
But today me and my friend completed W4R1. I was dreading the 5 minute bit and the first 3 minutes was hard, but the other runs seemed not so bad once we were going.
I'm really pleased and it is so good to be doing it with a friend to encourage each other along and to start to realise that it may just be possible that we will be able to run 5k.
Very inspiring video clip cheesestring.

DorisIsWaiting · 27/01/2012 21:39

wow you guys have certainly been busy- whilst aseas stats were postive geekmum's just made me grin!

Just watched the you tube link thank you to chessstring....really lovely.

And Jnice- don't let it hold you back, is there anywhere else locally you can think of as you start to extend run times?

well done ladies, keep it up!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/01/2012 22:02

I'm doing w5r2 tomorrow debka, hope I enjoy it too!! Got to fit it between getting home from a 5th birthday party that finishes at 3.30 and going out to babysit at 5.

Jnice · 27/01/2012 22:13

Thanks everyone for the support , I won't be giving up Wink

But... It is a challenge because I'm not supposed to run with DS yet as he's so young. The track was nice and smooth. He's not big enough for a jogger yet. My buggy with carseat is really clunky over pavement.

I will find a way though.

Well done everyone on their achievements this week, keep up the great work!
