Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

monstermissy and MetalSian thanks for the tips with the 30 day shred and the Zumba workout does look fun. I might order those weights from Tesco later on.

mazzi2fly · 14/01/2012 22:12

QueenRunningGeekMum No, I'm afraid not, that wasn't me! I'm in Kent. Smile

OneLieIn · 14/01/2012 23:23

I did shred yesterday. Bugger me, it is hard. Not sure i could do shred and run in the same day

jchocchip · 15/01/2012 06:39

Yes, having done it once, I have had 2 days off! I will do it again when I feel up to it, but not before a run... w3r3 today. I wonder how frosty it is.

weblette · 15/01/2012 07:50

Thanks for the W3 tips QGM, it doesn't look too bad now!

Ahem Rebecca didn't you see my webchat with Laura request?? Surely you must be able to lean on someone at MNTowers Wink Grin

jchocchip · 15/01/2012 07:53

Looks really frosty, but I'm going soon...

CoolRunnings · 15/01/2012 08:07

Soon as I get ds fed and clothed I'm off. Thinking of going for a swim at the pool round the corner tonight, but I may chicken out. Will check back in afterwards (if I survive).

Aseaandthreestars · 15/01/2012 08:44

Just back from W2R3. It was absolutely gorgeous running in the park as the sun came up. Dh came with me so I had some company.

I took the runs a bit more slowly than Friday (scalded cat speed) and managed to bung another two in on the way home. ANother 357 calories just gone. Going to have my coffee, omelette and ibuprofen breakfast of champions and see what the rest of the day brings.

Thanks for the times Geekmum - it doesn't look that scary when it's written down - I mean, it's less than a line on the screen Grin

Good luck to everyone who's out today. I'll be quietly cheering you on and feeling really proud of you all.

ZebraGoat · 15/01/2012 10:11

Hi, I'm a long-time lurker, coming out of hiding to say thank you for this thread. I'm doing c25k too and this morning REALLY didn't want to go. Came on here to see how you were all doing...then got my back-side into gear and completed w3r1.

Wouldn't have done it without a dose of mumsnet positive attitude.

jchocchip · 15/01/2012 10:57

Bit faster today remembered about it being shorter and ran along the river until halfway then turned back and ran to the pool and swam 30 lengths. Calves feel a little tight today but I think that is from the walking on Friday. Lovely and frosty, remembered hat, couldn't find gloves so ran with hands tucked up sleeves until I warmed up.

Hi zebra, well done on your runs :)

week 4(!) on Tuesday!

nomorecake · 15/01/2012 11:47

hi newbies and well done!
had a two day rest, but got w2r2 done yesterday. wahoooooooooooooooooooo!
i still whinge and try to avoid going before hand, probably because i think about it too much. but I eventually got out there.

how come the last run is easier than the middle runs though? Confused

something odd happened in the middle of one of the midway runs, where i normally feel like stopping and giving up, i actually managed to push through that and carry on. i was a bit jelly legged after. but i did it!!

DIG DEEP GIRLS!!

bought some cheap gloves (poundshop Blush) as my hands hurt so much from the bitter cold, all my other gloves are insulated and too warm. if they're rubbish or get lost, its not the end of the world.

btw you don't need a step for 30 day shred, but weights and space for floor work and overhead space for jumping jacks (and preferably be on the ground floor).
i can't face the aching muscles from starting shred, yet.
so may do yoga/pilates dvd instead. maybe...

AbbyLou · 15/01/2012 11:48

Morning everyone, wow this thread moves fast! I have had to have 3 days rest for various reasons and I hated it!! Never thought I'd say that! Did W2R2 this morning and it felt good. I still get the twinges in my left calf when I do the first run but it settles down soon after. I definitely feel as though I'm getting fitter, it gets easier each time. It was bloody cold this morning but I wore plenty of layers and soon got warm! I will do R3 on Tuesday then it's onto the dreaded week 3. Not sure I can run for 3 mins but I'll give it my best shot!

OneLieIn · 15/01/2012 11:49

W3,r2 done bizarrely listening to Christmas music. Hit the wrong playlist and then just left it.

cece · 15/01/2012 12:28

ON 2 day rest but really fancying going for a run. Who would have thought I would say that ever!?

thederkinsdame · 15/01/2012 12:47

Afternoon! Quick update from me. I did w1r8 Blush ran the whole thing even though my chest was v tight due to cold weather so v proud and it is getting easier. I'm gonna run wk1 once more then attemp wk2 (gulp)

BettySuarez · 15/01/2012 12:50

Can I join in? Have joined a gym and planning to do it all on the treadmills (is this cheating?)

Dreading it to be honest and this is the 3 rd time I've started it!

Hey ho!

uphillbothways · 15/01/2012 12:52

cece me too! The endorphins are definitely addictive.

uphillbothways · 15/01/2012 13:03

BettySuarez I don't think that's cheating but do be aware that running is a lot more tiring than walking, even going at the same speed! So you might not need to use the interval setting to begin with. I never liked running on a treadmill because seeing all those numbers would make me feel under pressure to go faster, rather than just going with the flow. But if you can put those thoughts aside and listen to your body it'll be fine.

CoolRunnings · 15/01/2012 13:22

BettySuarez, I did the c25k a few years ago and I moved in the middle of it so did the last few weeks in the gym. I wouldn't say its cheating because personally I found myself going faster as I could see my speed and distance travelled.

openyerlugholes · 15/01/2012 14:56

Oh I'm not looking forward to running tomorrow. Is minus temperatures here atm...

BettySuarez · 15/01/2012 15:08

Thanks everyone, just got back Smile

I started on week 2 and it was ok. Went better then I thought although I starting melting towards the end.

Good luck to everyone else with their runs this week x

thestringcheesemassacre · 15/01/2012 15:29

thederkins I think you should just go for wk 2. You can do it, You really can.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/01/2012 16:41

I agree with thestringcheesemassacre, you should go straight to wk 2 thederkins. If you've run all the bits you'll be fine, believe in yourself!

Rest day today but I did have a good run around playing 'it' with ds1 and dh while walking the dog!

Panadbois · 15/01/2012 17:32

Trying r3W2 again tomorrow, hope the weather stays nice. I bought my running gloves from Asda, they are nice and light ( and double up as a hanky if you leave home without one Blush

Note to self - stretch , stretch, stretch to avoid ouch puch ouch.

MoneyBunny · 15/01/2012 17:44

Hi all,

Doing W1R1 tonight, started last year as well and got to week 5 and then quit. I do regret this now but will do better this year!

I'm really crap at running but hoping it will one day feel as lovely as it looks when fit people run. Will read through thread later to find all the success stories!
