Through rain and snow and skies of grey
We will keep running the C25K
Though lack of sleep and time do test us
We wil not let excuses best us
For 2012 will be the year
For weight loss, fitness and good cheer
Nine weeks of running isn't that long
So come on ladies, get those running shoes on!

Welcome to all runners, joggers, speed walkers and waddlers! All levels of fitness are welcome here on the Couch to 5k support thread. For more information see the NHS website

about to brave the frost for wk3r3 (with hat and gloves) - my weight is starting to annoy me - ~(or should I say my appetiteBiscuit ) I seem to have only lost 2lbs in 4weeks?? cant say I've been dieting but have been watching what I eat and stopped snacking- when we started this everyone was saying -i did this and lost 2 stone. I think i expected it to happen automatically - maybe its just that muscle is heavier than fat

yehudiwho · 14/01/2012 08:19

sorry rusmum missed your post, I am still wearing old trainers as skint til payday. By then I will consider myself a real runner rather than pretend and can justify the expense- so hopefully you all can test run all brands and recommend the best (budget) buy

MetalSian · 14/01/2012 08:30

I went for the cheapest running shoes in my size on Sports Direct.
They are Karrimor, and pink and white (if you met me you would understand why this is funny), I wear them with a pair of running socks and have had no problems at all.
No blisters, no feet hurting.
I actually quite like them now the pink is starting to turn into mud colour ;P.
They were £26.

MetalSian · 14/01/2012 08:32

Actually everything I bought was Karrimor because it was all the cheapest and I love it all.
I am like a walking running, talking advert for them. xD

Aseaandthreestars · 14/01/2012 08:37

Thanks for lovely support and very gentle bum kicking. Your motivation couldn't be pitched any better.

Please don't feel annoyed about weight loss. When I started last year I found that the weight came off slowly - it took a year to lose two stone. But the weight loss never felt rushed or extreme, so it could be a good sign that it's taking it's time - it means that it's real, sustainable loss. And, it's stayed off me, even through times of not much running due to injury.

Good luck and loads of respect to everyone who's running today.

yehudiwho · 14/01/2012 08:38

metalsian you talk my talk- cheapest in shop is where I usually live - Karrimor takes first slot in running shoe spreadsheet

parttimedomesticgoddess · 14/01/2012 09:02

Morning. Just checking in to report that I've just done W2R3. Felt quite a lot harder than W2R2, not sure why but think (hope) it was me as I do a short stint on the gym bike after the run and that was way harder than usual too. Am hoping that W3R1 will be OK when I do it on Tuesday. Have a good weekend everyone, and good luck to any of you planning to run outside in this freezing weather x

QueenRunningGeekMum · 14/01/2012 09:05

My shoes are Mizuno wave inspire 7 and they weren't cheap - £80 in the sale! But you might get them cheaper elsewhere, I didn't shop around as I got them when I had my gait analysed. They correct my slight issues with foot placement that in the past have led me to sprain both ankles severely. I didn't want any excuses not to run so was prepared to pay the money for a professional to fit me plus DH paid for half Wink

Re slow weight loss - I echo what Asea said - slow is sustainable. Plus try not to focus on weight as the outcome, think about fitness instead. Are you running further than before? Getting less out of breath? Enjoying it?

Just having my morning cuppa then I'm off out Grin w3r1 eek!

arabellacaterpillar · 14/01/2012 09:06

W2r3 completed here too. Week 2 done whoop whoop! Nervous about what Laura has I store for me next week. Good luck this weekend runners!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 14/01/2012 09:08

Oh and MetalSian I'm with you with the pink - I was so pleased when they brought out my trainers as they were purple, yellow and white Smile

Also I wear decent running socks, stop you slipping in the shoe and provide support in the right places.

Well done parttime, agree with you, was prob harder due to your cycling! Bring on w3!

Aseaandthreestars · 14/01/2012 09:16

Good luck Geekmum. It's my day off, so I will raise my mug of coffee to you and wait to hear how it went (not proper wait, I"m going out shopping, but you know what I mean).

jchocchip · 14/01/2012 09:23

Good luck geekmum. We wouldn't be having quite so much fun without you! :)

yehudiwho · 14/01/2012 09:41

week 3 run 2 just done - glorious day out there - dont be put off by the cold once you are running its great- the park looked beautiful
definitely easier than run one this week - the gradual build up really helps with the stamina - agree with you all about slow and steady weight loss- my fitness is unrecognizable from when i started

jchocchip · 14/01/2012 10:17

It looks like such a lovely day - but I am sticking to my rest day. Will go swimming after lunch and maybe do the shred later, but that doesn't count does it? Roll on the run tomorrow!

CoolRunnings · 14/01/2012 10:48

I've been lurking on this thread for a few days now and thought I might as well bite the bullet and post.

I've just done w2r2, had to bring the pushchair with me for the first time and that made it much harder! I managed it though and I feel great.

I did the same running schedule 2 Years ago and lost 2 stone, but stopped in the last week when I fell pregnant with ds. Just another 2 stone to go till I'm where I want to be Blush. How is everyone finding the frosty air this morning?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2012 10:52

I'm running W3R1 later too QueenRunningGeekmum hope yours goes well. I'm off to panto first with ds1 and my mum Grin. Hope everyone else running today enjoys the fresh weather, not sure how I'll cope when it's warmer I'm roasting when I finish in this weather!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 14/01/2012 10:52

I'm back - soon warmed up out there. Completed all the running bits but was caught out by the fact the podcast was 4/5 mins shorter than previous weeks, so finished off with my own track (Gimme Some Lovin' by The Spencer Davis Group).

Saw two 'runners' out, grinned at them both, lady in pink hat smiled back but didn't respond with our secret hand signal, lady without sports bra didn't look at me but was obviously concentrating on holding her boobs in place. I felt like a runner today!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/01/2012 10:53

Hi coolrunnings, x-posts!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 14/01/2012 10:54

Welcome CoolRunnings what an apt name!

It's not so bad out there, just very bracing! Grin

QueenRunningGeekMum · 14/01/2012 10:55

Ps don't tell my DH that you can take LOs with you - it's my only time without ds!

jchocchip · 14/01/2012 10:56

well done coolrunnings! with the pushchair gets you extra points :)

CoolRunnings · 14/01/2012 11:04

QueenRunningGeekMum It's usually my only time too, but he was up till four working so I'll let him off. Just this once. Wink

Lotsofchooks · 14/01/2012 11:21

Ive been out in the beautiful crispy sunshine this morning and done Wk 3 run 1 and to my surprise wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be......same as QuennRunningGeekMum and need to shorten the route next time. :)

mazzi2fly · 14/01/2012 11:32

Week 2 Run 1 just done. I'm feeling really proud of myself. It was showing -6 on the thermometer when I went out. Brrrrrr!

I found the words to the songs helped a lot. The second to last run was "I'm stronger than this" -I didn't want to stop running after hearing that - and on the 5min cool down "I'm a fighter, who cares what people may think" It helps when I'm prancing aliong in my leggings and beanie hat!

My shock absorber sports bra arrived this morning (after my run) so I'm looking forward to my run on Monday, to try it out. The car's got it's MOT on Monday, so I'm going to do my run to get home from the garage.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 14/01/2012 11:36

Mazzi2Fly were you lady with no sports bra I saw this morning? If so well done on running without - you'll find it much easier with one Smile

I do somewhat miss the week 2 music, am hoping the week 3 music will grow on me...
