Has anyone heard about the Intermittent Diet? I'm thinking of giving it a go

www.genesisuk.org/media-centre/articles/The%20Intermittent%20diet%20.html

It's not specifically for women who want to prevent breast cancer although who doesn't? The idea was to look at alternative ways of dieting to the standard calorie counting/Mediterranean diet as people find it hard and it's important for cancer prevention to keep your BMI in the heathly range.

I'm thinking of giving it a go as a part of my inevitable New Years loose weight resolution and it would be great to hear of anyone else who's done it or would like to give it a try.

My plan is to start a general 'good' diet tomorrow, throw out the booze and chocs and once the dc's are back to school at the end of the week start the intermittent diet.

ExpatAgain yes, I'm doing this diet

Much less severe that Lighter Life/ Cambridge etc and suits my all or nothing sort of personality. Not taking his quack remedy though- apparently it's in red wine so I think I can get enough of a natural hit of that on 'up' days. Grin

ZogTheDestroyer · 16/01/2012 20:51

Coming to the end of VLC day 1 for this week :)

I've hardly felt hungry, have probably eaten less than 650 cals and only had 3 coffees all day (huge reduction from usual)

I need to go to bed now so I can't spoil all the good work.

Oh and my chiropractor says I shouldn't start the new running regime for at least 2 weeks :( hurrah! :o

Bluebirdpies · 16/01/2012 21:18

Also finishing up my first vlc day this week.

I am going to have to take myself to bed though. The lindor in the cupboard are singing to me!

Just about spot on the 650 today.

I've also made some low carb muffins for breakfast, lots of eggs and a little Brie. Eggs for breakfast keep me going for hours. It's been a revalation.

marking my place, hope you dont mind Smile

ExpatAgain · 17/01/2012 04:31

warm welcome, ledkr, the more the merrier! Glad I didn't put you off on the other thread! I'm getting quite evangelical about this so I do tend to bang on at times Grin. It's a v supportive thread anyway, no pressure.

ExpatAgain · 17/01/2012 04:34

3rd week started well yesterday, def did 650 or under tho didn't count to be honest as flat out w work deadline - getting to know tho what i can eat

  • egg white omelette & veg
  • prawns & raw veg
  • veg soup

lots of water really helps me, couple of marmite drinks, quite a few milky drinks.

how's the weather affecting everyone? boiling here which helps w the diet but come winter wonder how easy it'll be.

ProfYaffle · 17/01/2012 07:13

Bluebird - so true about eggs. We have chickens so have eggs for breakfast most mornings, I really miss it if we're away from home and are forced to have toast or something.

Normal day to today after vlc yesterday, it was surprisingly easy, wasn't hungry or light headed or anything. Didn't sleep well though which seems to be a pattern.

ExpatAgain · 17/01/2012 09:22

hi there, normal day too but had to have my ricecakes and some fruit. like eggs but have so much of them on VLCDs!

felt ok but, like you, prof, don't seem to sleep well after these.

maisiemoo · 17/01/2012 09:30

Hi Tracey and all.

Usually brown spices but didn't this time - was fine!

Finished vlcd with homemade biscotti and choc macaroon at Book Group! Did stay off the wine tho!

V tired this am, don't know if it's linked but pleased with how it went - not as horrific as I thought!

Thursday is my next vlcd. But for today - bring on the chocolate!

TracyK · 17/01/2012 10:05

I made celery and chilli soup yesterday which was nice. I must experiment more with spices.
Was good up till school pick up time - when I went a bit loopy on wine gums and mini cheddars. Grr - so can't count yday as a VLC day.

maisiemoo · 17/01/2012 10:53

Hooray! 2lb off, 19 to go.

ZZMum · 17/01/2012 11:06

2 off for me too - but like Tracey my VLCD ended badly or fabulously when my DD8 disappeared into kitchen when i was working and emerged an hour later with a plate of her own sauasage rolls and a chocolate cake - I would take any level of torture from anyone else but was not able to look her in little face and say "nah, don't want one of those"... so today I shall be VLCDing - and hiding the flour before she gets home!

:) ZZMum I'd have done the same, it's not 'being good' to refuse child-made food, it's just mean!

Am VLC tomorrow, was going to do Thursday but we have a birthday I'd forgotten about Blush so can't not have birthday cake for the same reason, not fair on the kids (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

ZogTheDestroyer · 17/01/2012 12:15

Osmiornica I'm sticking to the original diet sheet in the OP, not even making soup etc because it's keeping me from thinking about food at all (and if it tastes too nice I'd just guzzle, not easy when lunch is a plate with 7 slices of pickled beetroot Hmm)

Kellamity · 17/01/2012 12:21

Can I join you? Well done on your weight losses for last week! Sounds like a fairly manageable diet. I can't start today but I can weigh in a prepare for a possible start tomorrow.

ProfYaffle · 17/01/2012 14:12

I'm doing 650 calories made up of low fat protein, veg, yoghurt and 1 portion of fruit. Would like to hear from anyone just doing no carb and how their weightloss is going. That's a more attractive/easier option for me.

Good luck Kellamity Smile

Sorry - that puts me (-5) altogether.

Three off this week. Not bad at all.

Having a VLC day today. Killed me just about. My brother came up and I made a fantastic beef stew with jacket potatoes and for pudding I made a Gallette des Rois and ice cream. I will confess to a mouthful of Galette. Still, I ate a mullerlight, a banana, a bowl of soup, 100g cottage cheese and a veggie stir fry the rest of the day so I doubt the damage is terminal.
I'm splitting up my days this week. I'll do VLC again on Thursday.

ExpatAgain · 18/01/2012 08:47

well done, RH, that's great. It rather sounds like torture to cook such a gorgeous sounding meal and NOT eat it! My family don't eat well on my VLCDs Grin

i'm trying not to judge by weight counting - i either have a v funny body (highly possible!) or dodgy scales as my weight has fluctuated by
2.75 kilos/6lbs between yesterday am (lower) and this morning (higher)in which case I'm back where I started after 2 weeks Sad. I've just started my period, so that might explain a bit, but still seems a huge flux..

maisiemoo · 18/01/2012 10:50

Ex,

If you can possibly avoid it - don't weigh in every day - 6lbs could all be water retention, esp around period time. B4 my hysterectomy last year I could fluctuate by 8lbs during the week I was due on. The day b4 I would look 30wks pg!

Alternatively it could just be a big poo! Grin (Sorry! tmi!)

Seriously though, don't get downhearted - we're in it for the long haul.

Weighing every day is quite a rollercoaster ride, you're all :o after the VLC days then ShockAngrySad the day after!

I'm doing daily weigh-ins for information only and to give me false hope that all the starving is actually working miracles and taking the Monday morning weight as the true measure, might be worth not weighing at all in between but I like pretending that I've lost lbs and lbs even though I know I haven't really Wink
