Has anyone heard about the Intermittent Diet? I'm thinking of giving it a go

www.genesisuk.org/media-centre/articles/The%20Intermittent%20diet%20.html

It's not specifically for women who want to prevent breast cancer although who doesn't? The idea was to look at alternative ways of dieting to the standard calorie counting/Mediterranean diet as people find it hard and it's important for cancer prevention to keep your BMI in the heathly range.

I'm thinking of giving it a go as a part of my inevitable New Years loose weight resolution and it would be great to hear of anyone else who's done it or would like to give it a try.

My plan is to start a general 'good' diet tomorrow, throw out the booze and chocs and once the dc's are back to school at the end of the week start the intermittent diet.

zog. I've got no reason to be complacent, believe me and like you am rather partial to wine - one reason i like the ID, i have 2 days "off" !. I was thinking the same actually about spreading the days (and therefore hopefully the attitude), I've done 2 weeks of on/off towards beginning of week. May do something like mon/thurs or tues/fri next week.

Loveleopardprint · 14/01/2012 18:08

Strada for lunch and homemade lasagne for tea. Followed by weekend wine.
Perfect Mediterranean diet Grin

ExpatAgain · 15/01/2012 02:45

indeed, leopard! Mine's been wine, dips, prawns and dark chocolate. Picky food to get me thro a long evening/night.

moonshine · 15/01/2012 11:02

I think the weight losses have been very respectable on this thread so well done. But it's hard not to food obsess, I agree, probably because eating 'what you like' on a 'diet' seems unnatural (well it does to me because I have lost sight of 'normal' I think).

Anyway just didn't want to disappear but am bowing out of this diet for a few weeks but will be back mid-March (if you'll have me!) so it'll be really interesting to see how far everyone has got.

Bluebirdpies · 15/01/2012 12:34

Very, very pleased. I've had wine, sausages, an amazing five course dinner out and I've lost 3lbs. Amazed. I think this one might be for me.

Here's to week two!

Week 1

Zog - 4lbs
Radio -2lbs
Expat - 2lbs
ZZmum - 3lbs
NMP - 4lbs
Bluebird - 3lbs

ExpatAgain · 15/01/2012 12:53

well done bluebird and see you soon , Moonshine.
I've snacked on & off all day, not so good but on a tight, tight deadline so allowing myself as not VLCD.

TracyK · 15/01/2012 13:26

I haven't weighed myself - but I feel a hell of a lot trimmer. So shall keep it going. Still couldn't do 2 days in a row - so going for 2 days out of 7. Tomorrow and Thurs I think will be my days this week. I must go to shops and get myself organised.

ZogTheDestroyer · 15/01/2012 18:18

Ohhhh I really need to deal with my chocolate issues, at this rate I'm going to be bigger than I was at the start Hmm
Saying that, the 3 mini bars I've had over the course of today is a vast improvement on my normal consumption

Weighing in for week 2 tomorrow morning, not got high hopes for keeping off the lbs I dropped on the VLC days though.

Am going to reread this book this week, and make an appointment with the chiropractor to deal with the neck and back pain that's stopping me from wanting to do any exercise, then it's either back to the gym or C5K for the gazillionth time for me. Drastic reduction in wine intake also, am doing VLC days on Monday and Thursday because Thursday's usually one of our boozier evenings (dh is less than impressed with this plan but I'm sure we'll he'll make it up)

OK so I've typed my goals for next week, just got to keep to them now they're set down.
Easy-peasy! :o

Loveleopardprint · 15/01/2012 21:29

Zog- I have just finished the Xmas chocolates and some lovely bread and butter. Now feel sick though I think that is from guilt!!

Wish I had more will power!! Back to vlc day tomorrow.

ZZMum · 15/01/2012 22:01

So, back to VLCD for me tomorrow - and C25K for the billionth time - Zog let me know which stage you are at!

Tomorrow have a new approach to VCLD - tried some of those M+S fuller for longer meals over the weekend - kid pester power worked on me for once..

anyway, was interesting as there was one I had for 350 calories that was lush - and actually did fill me up for hours.. so going to have that for lunch tomorrow - a couple of eggs for breakfast and then veg soup for dinner - all worked out today as I could not believe it was 650 calories!

SO hopefully this could get rid of some of the munchies that can derail plus is gives me something to chew which is what I usually miss on the VLCD days..

ExpatAgain · 16/01/2012 04:08

am joining you, been up a couple of hours on coffee but going to VLCD. Complete overload at w/e also, don't know what came over me other than thinking stress/study = munchies.

zzmum, m & s a little far for me, shame! enjoy though. must remember it's 650 not 750 calories this time Blush

EBDteacher · 16/01/2012 06:29

I have done my week 1 weigh in this morning. 6.6lb down Grin. I know I'm not doing exactly the same diet as you guys as I am vlcd every other day so I won't post it on the list.

I am really chuffed with it though because it's actually a fairly similar first week loss to the one I had on Lighter Life once, but so so much more sustainable. And, as has been said FREEEEEEE! It's so much more sociable too, my husband hasn't even noticed what I'm doing men are so blind , he just thinks I'm being 'good' some days.

Good luck with your vlcds everyone who is doing one today!

ExpatAgain · 16/01/2012 07:42

wow, well done! Don't overdo it though, are you really doing it every other day, so 3 or 4 xs a week?

ProfYaffle · 16/01/2012 08:06

vlc day for me again today - no way could I do 3 or 4 in a week!

Interesting re the M&S meal though I'm about 25 miles away from the nearest M&S so I can't really test it out.

ZogTheDestroyer · 16/01/2012 08:07

That's a great result, EBDteacher well done!

My week 2 weighin was this morning, Hmm as expected, 6lb down from NYD so 2lb extra lost last week.

Bit disappointed as this means I can't actually pig out and drink wine on my normal days and still lose loads of weight, to do that I'm actually going to have to be at least a bit good on the normal days [gutted]

VLC today, so this means I'm starting my 3rd week of the diet (longest I've ever managed to stick to any diet Blush)

Onwards and downwards! :o

V true Osm - 2lbs loss and pigging out sounds quite good to me. In the past I've stuck to SW religiously and only lost half a pound a week!

maisiemoo · 16/01/2012 09:40

Well 2 hrs into my 1st vlcd and on my 3rd coffee! Decaff and no sugar tho. Soup 4 lunch, veg stir fry for dinner BUT book group tonite with wine and nibbles - wish me luck.

Makes for interesting reading, if a bit 'sciencey'.
Good luck everyone!

TracyK · 16/01/2012 10:40

What soup are you doing today maisie?

ZZMum · 16/01/2012 10:49

Zog - 2lb a week is an excellent weight loss when you are not on a diet 70% of the week - and sadly no where does it say pig out on normal days - it says stick to a normal days calories for a woman.

As you say, this is longest you have stuck to a diet - it is working and you are ever closer to your goal - stick with it!! So did you run? Just back from Week 3 (5th time..)

ZogTheDestroyer · 16/01/2012 11:14

This is true, I'm just being ungrateful because the VLC days show a great big drop then some goes on again on the normal days leaving 'only' a 2lb drop.

Consciously I know it's all water weight and the weekly drop is the more accurate one (and is a sustainable healthy rate of loss) but I want to be thin, and NOW!

No running just now, back problems are flaring up so chiro first (read: I have a list of excuses why I can't exercise to get through before I actually get off my backside and do something) Week 3 is about the furthest I've got so well done ZZMum! :)

Hi Tracey.
Just made it with what was in - leeks, red and yellow pepper, carrot, buttternut squash, cumin seeds, ground coriander, red chilli and bouillon for the stock. Will count that as my salty drink. Was tasty, felt full but got in car and ate 2 minstrels! Only 2 tho and it was a full packet!
Ho hum! I'll keep busy at work and not eat!

TracyK · 16/01/2012 13:42

Do you brown the seeds and coriander first - or just lob it all into the stock?
