I am at the age where it is just a matter of (short) time before I develop a health problem relating to my weight - joints, Type 2 diabetes or even a heart attack. It really is that serious.
I am sick of not having any "nice" clothes (don't want to invest until I lose weight Hmm).
I did it in summer, stuck to it for ages which is something I have never managed to do. I CAN do it again.

So here's the plan. Back to foodfocus as of tomorrow. No days off (logging, although I may choose to eat more than I am "allowed". Everything must be logged.
No excessive competitiveness with myself. I truly believe this is part of the reason it all went wrong.

3 or 4 lb to lose every week. Might sound a lot but it's easy when you're big - I'm sure I could do it by just eating 3 normal sized usual meals a day. So pathetic if I can't.

Coming back here to report on progress. Caring and supportive thread but not accepting bullshit excuses!
Anyone want to join me?

Hello, Can I return to the fold please? I know I've not posted in ages but I have been doing my very, very best (well, apart form a weekend away, a takeaway, and a couple of meals out) and at my last weigh in I had lost 3 and a quarter pounds in three weeks Sad, dh, who started a week after me had lost 6lb Angry

We have a wedding on the 12th FEb, I don't have a dress yet but I have vbought some sooper dooper concrete knickers in preparation. i would have loved to have been in a 14 but I know it's going to be a 16.

I need to up the exercise, I have so far this week done at least half an hour of something every day. I am so unfit, I went for a walk with my friend at lunch time and we went uphill and my chest hurt!

Ah well - onwards and downwards - weight wise!

DaisySteiner · 26/01/2012 16:16

Well, I finally got weighed today and (drum roll please).....I've lost 4lbs in a week! I don't suppose it's always going to be this much every week, but at least I'm off to a good start. Spoilt it slightly by eating a cupcake this afternoon - wasn't my fault, I didn't want to hurt my friend's feelings Wink

Cother, may I suggest the diet I'm using? It's a low-carb 'mediterranean-style' diet which I found here It is quite restrictive about treats - no more than two a week Sad but I've had quite a few more than this and have still lost a fair bit. I find it quite simple to follow, although some days I have been really, really hungry for no particular reason. Most days are fine though. Although it sounds as though you're doing brilliantly on your own!

MABS · 26/01/2012 17:31

well done Daisy!! been good all day, but had bit of car accident, so vino is calling...

DaisySteiner · 26/01/2012 17:37

Oh no! Are you OK?! Wine definitely justified! Have a Wine

CotherMuckingFunt · 26/01/2012 17:48

Blimey MABS - are you hurt? Is everyone else ok?

Thanks for that link Daisy. It looks pretty much like what I'm eating except I don't have any (or very little if I'm desperate) of the carbs. It's great to have the portion sizes though. I use MFP but their daily amounts for carbs, proteins etc are for 'normal' people so I have to make sure I adjust it for me. And great weight loss!

Lilibet, I understand the disappointment but every couple I know who have been dieting together have the same issue where the man loses weight so much more easily than the woman. It sucks. 3.25lbs down is still 3.25lbs down though so well done!

CotherMuckingFunt · 26/01/2012 17:52

Oh, and I was clearing out my junk useful things drawer and found a sheet of paper with waist measurements on from last year. This time last year my waist was 4.5 inches bigger than it is now (yay) but I'm only 9kg lighter than I was. I definitely find that weight loss doesn't necessarily match shape changes. At one point last year I went down a dress size but gained 1kg. Are you very muscley? (Is that even a word?) I gain visible muscle after just a couple of bike rides.

MABS · 26/01/2012 18:39

I fine thanks girls, bit shaken but that's all, no damage to me or car :)

LovingChristmas · 26/01/2012 18:53

Ive only just found this, but can I please join. I need to lose a lot overall, around 4.5 stone, I only started on monday, I'm just trying to be better, swapped out rubbish for fruits and moving more!!

notveryinventive · 26/01/2012 20:31

Hi everyone.

Ie had a good day today, but only because Ive been busy and havent had time to eat much. Ive still got over 100 calories to go to get to my losing weight calorie goal for today. Ive just done the shred and really couldnt be bothered so pleased I actually did it. Im generally feeling like that anyway. Need a kick up the bum I think.

Anyway I have a night out on sat (the first for a while) and will involve alcohol. Now Im not fussy what I drink (apart from Whisky ever since I got too drunk on it at a party when I was 16 Blush) so what do you recommend to keep calories low? Or at least better than others. Im assuming beer/lager is pretty bad, but thinking clear drinks like white wine and vodka (not together) good options?

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 26/01/2012 22:08

Hi all and well done Daisy!

Well I am feeling a bit shit tonight, still a bit poorly and coughing like a drain and have had the 2 DCs on my own today and yesterday so not much rest either. Just been for a massage though (partly to shift huge knots in my shoulders from the coughing) which should make me feel better later, though at the moment I am feeling worse if anything cos it's made me really dopey!

The good thing is either the cold has kept my appetite down or I am getting used to eating better, as I'm staying within my points this week without much trouble, even with a few quite naughty cupcakes treats and no exercise this week. So hopefully that should mean at least another lb off on Sunday?

Notvery if it was me I would stick to wine but just try to concentrate on not having too much, and especially not so much that you stop caring! Or you could alternate with diet coke if you are feeling virtuous enough? Not that I am drinking anyway till I get rid of this stupid lurgy Envy

MABS · 27/01/2012 09:01

neck's a bit tight today, no exercise for me :(

momnipotent · 27/01/2012 11:50

Well done stacey, five, and daisy (and anyone else I might have missed)

MABS, is the stiff neck an after-effect of your car accident? I hope you're OK!

I am plugging along, eating is reasonably under control right now. Better than it would be if I was eating to my natural inclination, that's for sure! My left leg still isn't right so I have given up on the full body vibration thing for now. I did however download The Shining from the library onto my iPad and spent 30 minutes with it on the treadmill yesterday. I almost enjoyed myself!

DaisySteiner · 27/01/2012 13:43

Aaargh, ate a bacon roll today on my break. One of the surgeons at work had to buy the whole team a bacon roll for a forfeit and it would have been rude to turn it down Sad Surprised how guilty (and stuffed!) I feel.

So is it worth getting the Shred DVD? Just the name sounds painful! Does it help you lose weight or just tone?

Hope everyone has a nice weekend Smile

CotherMuckingFunt · 27/01/2012 17:09

To understand this post you need to understand my love of Maltesers. They are the be all and end all of my life and I could happily live off them forever more without any other form of sustenance. I love love love them to the point that I dream about them.

Today my friend came round with a large family sized pack of Maltesers for each of us. We had no kids, posh coffee and hours to spare. She opened her pack and ate half of them. My pack is still in the cupboard unopened ShockShockShockShockShockShockShock

What is happening to me??? I don't know who I am anymore

notveryinventive · 27/01/2012 17:20

cother I am the same with minstrels and today while shopping I only bought one pack. They often go down to a pound, but recently they have been full price so easy to say no to. Today they were £1 again and I only bought one pack. Did well not giving in to the chocolate orange temptation too as they were £1 as well, but they weren't the popping candy ones so was a little easier.

daisy I got it cos it was only £5 so decided it wasnt a lot to waste. I love it (hate it when Im doing it though). I think its designed more to tone than to lose weight, but Im sure I read somewhere on MN (could even be this thread) that apparently losing weight is 80% diet and only 20% exercise. Though you must remember if you are exercising you are likely to be building muscle which is heavier than fat. So even though you might not lose a lot of weight you should still look and feel better.

StealthPolarBear · 27/01/2012 17:21

Cother you are changing
Right, diet has been incredibly bad recently and that changes tomorrow (after some wine tonight). Work has been incredibly busy - was up till past midnight last night working, and then I had an interview today. Didn't get it, but tbh had decided I didn't want it, but I did get told that if I applied again, to contact the director of this particular department and he would put in a good word for me with the head of the other department So a very successful day. Back to focussing on the diet again tomorrow.

Large wine in hand already ..

lydiathetattooedlady · 27/01/2012 18:23

hello-weighed in today and 1lb more off, which makes 6lbs in 3 and a bit weeks. Haven't had a great week diet wise, curry and drinks sat, hangover mcdonalds sunday, dominos tuesday Blush so to say im pleased is an understatement! i was really good in between these naughty meals! Have also deveoped a taste for cold chilli on salad. Have had that a couple of days for lunch with a spoon of low fat sour cream on!
Im off to my friends house for a psychic reading tonight. I always think its a bit Hmm but thought i'd have a reading anyway!

mabs hope you're ok after your accident.

cother i am like this with malteaser bunniers! i literally think about them on a daily basis, made worse when they arent on sale! most places do 2 for £1 and i always have to buy two! They're 4 pro points each so not too bad, i just have to stop myself from eating the second!

hello to lovingchristmas

well done daisy on the 4lbs and all the other losers Grin

fivegomadindorset · 27/01/2012 20:22

Evening all.

MABS how are you today my lovely after your accident?

Stealth enjoy the evening and refocus tomorrow.

Loving, get stuck in.

Having a more relaxed night tonight with wine (although that was drunk last night) I have noticed however that my portion sizes are evr so slowly getting smaller. I am eating slower aswell which can only help. I have almost cut out bread entirely I thought I would miss it but I am not.

Luckily I don't see things and want them chocolate wise normally but I am coming up to the time of the month where chocolate cravings sometimes get the better of me. My mother bought a load of small choclate bars for DD's birthday last week and one every now and again seem to be helping stave the craving.

Well done Daisy as well.

And well done Cother for resisting. (see that virtual kick was aimed well)

CotherMuckingFunt · 28/01/2012 08:44

FOUR KG GONE SINCE CHRISTMAS!!!

momnipotent · 28/01/2012 12:03

Flipping awesome Cother! You must be well-pleased!

Had a little lapse last night, back in the saddle today. Sigh.

DaisySteiner · 28/01/2012 12:52

That's fantastic Cother! Well done you Smile

I'm still thinking about the shred dvd. I'm worried it'll leave me a wreck for a few days and my job is quite physical so can't afford not to be able to move.

I've decided to buy some bathroom scales, it's getting ridiculous having to wait until I go to a friend's to weigh myself and I think in the longer term it would be a good idea to keep an eye on my weight regularly. What would people recommend? Manual or digital? Does price matter?

lilibet · 28/01/2012 18:27

Oh well done everyone who is loosing weight, you're all doing great.

I've been clothes shopping for BIL's wedding which is a fortnight tomorrow and got myself very upset Sad

I have also done my meansurements and I'm 107, 115, 120 cm

PLEASE no one translate that into inches for me, it will look so much worse if I actually understand the measurements.

notveryinventive · 28/01/2012 18:38

Well Im having 3 days off now as its my birthday on mon so tonight Im out with the girls so will be drinking lots of wine, tomorrow out for a meal with the family and mon I have this cake for mon night and DH is making Lasagne which is really bad. Still going to shred tomorrow and monday though as I fear if I dont I wont get back into it.

Still going to weigh-in tomorrow, but not looking forward to it after tonight.

notveryinventive · 29/01/2012 10:23

I wieghed myself yesterday, but only because I knew I was going out and drinking so was more curious about how much I would put on in the course of a day and I put on 1 lb in 24 hours, though I have lost 1lb since last week so Im still on course to be losing one lb a week Grin was most pleased
