Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

molly the dukan sounds too extreme for me, but good luck with it. I'm surprised its not giving you bad headaches with all that.
Sparky least u didnt eat 5 like me!
Today I've been bad, gd for me, but bad for a diet! It was someones bday at work and they brought in cookies and cakes, and i had a white choc one, then come home and had a cadburys caramel Blush
On a plus tho, I did finally open my Wii Zumba game that had been gathering dust for 3 months and did 30 mins on the easy level, it nearly killed me!! I'm worried that the novelty will soon wear off, but I'll try n push thro the wkend.
I had makarel salad, with plenty of beetroot - cos thats supposed to be good at speeding up metabolism - and big bowl of fruit n fibre for my tea, i expect that used more points than a take away! but I was too tired to think about cooking! Gonna make veg and thyme casserole tomorrow.

NewYearsRevolution That's also why I find it hard to find to time to exercise, I also have a baby and a toddler. Lets see if I get some time today.

anniepanniepears what is the grapefruit suppossed to do when you eat it before a meal? I have some in the fruit bowl.

Last night I fell of the wagon and had a takeaway, feel quite bad about it today but I'm firmly back on it again. Weigh in tomorrow, i'm quite vervous, will have to be extra good today.

For breakfast I've had a scrambled egg on toast and a glass of hot water and lemon. Lunch is going to be home made veg soup and dinner I've no idea yet.

Have a good day everyone.

SparkySparrow · 07/01/2012 16:36

Just checking in.
So far today had porridge and a salad. Having friends over for dinner so going to have bbq chicken and salad (potato wedges for everyone else). Quite a few points left today so might treat myself to some coleslaw. :)

Feel really good today, no cravings, no headaches, not really hungry, think my body must be getting used to the new healthier diet! :)

TalkinPeace2 · 07/01/2012 16:48

I got down to 9 st with WW years ago and I knew it was creeping back on and kidded myself that I weighed just over 9
Uh Oh
Friday on the scales at the gym said 10 0
time to be strong

a silly thing that my aerobics teacher told me
sit up tall in your chair - always - not letting your back touch the back of the seat - tones your waist and burns extra calories
also fidget - many thin people are fidgeters - so their muscles are permanently moving

NewYearsRevolution · 07/01/2012 17:18

Vicky08 - I'll try and see what you manage to do and then I'll have no excuses not to manage the same then! Maybe we can spur each other on with the walking too.

I've done ok today - except DH made brie and bacon roll for lunch Blush.

Mollyfloss · 07/01/2012 19:05

drywhiteplease: of course you can be my dukan buddy! :) Today so far I had two scambled eggs, oatbran porridge (1.5 tbsps does not make much though), fromage frais, sirloin steak, 3 0% yoghurts, spicy prawns dipped in yoghurt.

Hathall: sorry that was a typo!. I just had 4 yoghurts

It is a bit extreme and I'm not a huge meat eater but the attack phase can be very short term. This is my second day of the attack phase which I think is a good kick start. You really do lose weight straight away. I think tomorrow I will go to the cruise phase as I only have 10 lbs to lose. I'm breastfeeding (although very well established) and have plenty of milk but will still need to be careful.

putyourhatonsweetie · 08/01/2012 00:16

weigh in this morning 2.4 kilos lost....woooooohooooooo.

SparkySparrow · 08/01/2012 00:18

Well done putyourhaton!!! :)

putyourhatonsweetie · 08/01/2012 02:31

thanks so much sparky. let's see if I can keep it up. Its so bloody hot here that I need to use this to pile my plate sky high with rabbit food. Glad your body is adjusting - happy days.

mrspepperpotty · 08/01/2012 08:08

Well done putyourhatonsweetie, that's brilliant!

Good luck for yours today vicky08.

Hathall · 08/01/2012 09:41

Well putyourhaton
I weighed myself yeasterday morning and had lost 2.7lbs since Monday.

Yesterday I had headache and felt sick all day so didn't eat much.

I'm going to eat healthy today then I'm doing 5 days of Harcombe, then back to healthy eating.

SparkySparrow · 08/01/2012 10:11

Ok, so I used my leftover points and some extra for a glass bottle of wine! Now I could kill for a bacon sandwich!
Dh thinks I've gone mad. I actually clapped, and said 'Well done putyourhaton!' last night when I read your post! Blush Grin

Hope its ok today vicky !
Well done to everyone! :)

putyourhatonsweetie · 08/01/2012 10:46

thanks everyone, tonight was fish and chips at the beach with my inlaws and because I had a great start this week I was able to resist, and best of all amongst all of the chaos nobody even noticed I wasn't eating, came home and had a salad. this thread is great for stopping being a diet bore in real life. thanks.

Good luck vicky and well done hathall.

mrspepperpotty · 08/01/2012 11:25

Well done hathall what a great start!

I had a G&T and 2 glasses of wine yesterday but still think I am doing ok overall. Just cooking a roast dinner and have only put in one potato for me. Agree about being a diet bore here rather than in real life!

Vicky08 · 08/01/2012 14:13

Hi everyone, first of all really well done putyourhaton and Hathall I love to hear of others loosing weight.

putyourhaton where are you that's hot?

Well I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 3.3lb, am very happy considering I've not done any exercise but this morning I finally got round to doing the Shred and all I can say is OMG!!! That's some workout! I'm aching all over now. But now I've started I'm determined to keep it up.

That's a good tip TalkinPeace2, I'm going to give it a try, anything to burn a few extra calories :)

Yes NewYearsRevolution believe me if I could do the Shred this morning with two little ones running about anyone can, although I did have to stop 2 or 3 times to see to them and my 3 yr old wanted to use my weights, I had to resort to tins of beans until she got bored!

My DH has suggested I join a gym to get away from them for a while but I can't really justify the cost, we're saving up to go on holiday in the summer, one of my main motivations for loosing weight.

Well better get on and tidy up a bit, tomorrow back to work.

Mollyfloss · 08/01/2012 14:33

Well done Vicky08, putyourhaton and Hathall!!! It's encouraging to hear about your weight loss. So I lost 1.5kgs in two days with the attack phase of the Dukan diet. I know it's mostly water but it's good to feel less bloated. I couldn't do another day of all protein so now I am in the cruise phase so I can have veg too. So far today: oatbran porridge (2tbsp of oatbran only makes a tiny amount of porridge), 2 scrambled eggs, 1 0% yoghurt, 1 0% greek yoghurt, chicken fillet cooked with garlic & oregon, salad with yoghurt & mustard dressing. I'm going to cook ratatouille now (I have a good simple recipe if anyone would like it)

SparkySparrow · 08/01/2012 15:32

Could I have that recipe please Mollyfloss ? I could do with something new!
Well done Vicky ! :)

Mollyfloss · 08/01/2012 15:58

Here it is, It's very nice with grilled salmon or chicken or anything you want really. It freezes well too. I also add a tsp of mixed herbs and don't even bother with the parsley. You could make a spicy version by adding chilli. To save chopping time you can use squeezy garlic and can also but buy onions already chopped (waitrose)

1 aubergine cubed
2-3 small courgettes sliced
1 red pepper
2-3 small onions (sliced or chopped)
1-2 garlic cloves (crushed or chopped)
Lots of tomatoes (you can use canned if you like)
salt and pepper
Olive Oil
chopped parsley

Saute the onions and garlic over a medium heat until translucent. Add the aubergine slowly and saute until brown. Add the courgettes and cover the pan until water is released from the aubergine. Then saute. Add the red pepper last. When the other ingredients have been sauteed, add tomatoes. You want there to be plenty of tomato to blend the other things together. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil and simmer over a low heat for 2 hours. Raise the heat and boil off any extra liquid. At this point, the ratatouille is finished and can be kept in the refrigerator (if made the day before) or at room temp if you're using later on. When ready to serve, bring the vegetables to a boil and simmer until heated all the way through. Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.

VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2012 16:05

Wow some great weight losses, well done people.

I'm not going to weigh myself till Tuesday at the earliest, maybe even Friday. I have been really good so far. Today's the first day I haven't done Shred DVD, but I've only just got in from work and am knackered. So having a day off.

SparkySparrow · 08/01/2012 16:36

Thanks Molly. I think I'll try it tomorrow with some chicken. :)

drywhiteplease · 08/01/2012 18:23

Day one of Duran.not hungry but bit wierd not eating fruit of veg.

TalkinPeace2 · 08/01/2012 18:33

I don't want to be negative - but to those on "diets"
what do you do when you hit target weight
as those diets do not provide enough calories to hold a healthy BMI (see KM looking scrawny of late)
what are your meals going to be for the next 40 years to keep your weight healthy?
I'm not being snotty - I dropped 12st to 9 st 10 yrs ago and have now crept back up to 10 st over 3 years
so I have to analyse and take steps to get back to - and stay at - 9 st
red wine and cheese are the prime candidates....

NewYearsRevolution · 08/01/2012 19:31

Cheese and after dinner snacking are mine TalkinPeace. Predictable but true! I agree that an actual 'diet' isn't for me either. I'm trying to change the habits that led to weight gain- although to be fair 'pregnant and hungry as a horse for 41 weeks' has already changed. I just can't seem to shift it!

SparkySparrow · 08/01/2012 19:56

I'm following WW and tbh I don't really feel like I'm on a 'diet' as such. For me its about eating better foods, and less of it. I have cut out bread for the time being as I tend to find I binge on it. I didn't even realise how much of it I ate until this week. I have bought 1 loaf this week, dh and ds have eaten between them just over half, normally I buy 3! Shock
I already feel like I am making 'healthier choices' so hopefully I can carry it on when I reach the weight I'm aiming for!
I think its all about getting into the right mindset, so when you do finish your 'diet' you can carry making the right choices.

drywhiteplease · 08/01/2012 20:16

I meant Dukan not Duran! Although a diet of Rio,Girls on film and Save a prayer would be such nostalgic fun!
talkinpeace2 I understand what you mean about diets ,the only permanent solution is to accept you have to completely change the way you eat....boring...but like I tell my kids a little of what you fancy does you good.
Also you lost 12st! That's amazing....you can loose astone again no prob,or maybe your weight has just plateaued.
Cheese and wine are my big weakness too.can resist chocolate and not fussed about puddings but the cheese board is a killer!
