Who's in for healthy weight loss in 2012?

I'm sat here piling on the pounds over Christmas, not quite having lost those I gained last year!

It's got to the point where it's now or never - DH and I are TTC #2, so I have to get to a healthy weight to give us the best possible chance, which is motivation in itself. I need to lose about half a stone to get into my healthy weight range, but ideally would like to lose another stone on top of that.

I've half-arsedly tried Weight Watchers and Paul McKenna over the last year, and if I gave it a decent shot, either of those would help. The main thing I'm going to do to kick start the weight loss though, is make a new year's resolution to cut right back on junk food, which is my weakness. Basically, if it's not something nutritious, or if there's a healthier alternative, I'm going to try to give it a miss!

Having cancelled my gym membership last year, I joined a running club instead and will be going out with them once a week, and once with my DM. I have a kettlebell and DVD at home, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kettlercise-Just-Women-PLUS-Kettlebell/dp/B0053YNSDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325074972&sr=8-1 this one, and will continue to use that twice a week. I'll also be going to a PAYG spinning class once a week, and maybe the odd Kettlercise class to vary the routine on the DVD a bit.

So, anybody interested in joining me? I'm not sure whether to go for it immediately from 1st January, or to wait until the 3rd (I have parties to go to on Sunday and Monday, so might be setting myself up for failure). That said, it would be a real buzz to manage a couple of social occasions straight away - they're usually another downfall for me!

Hi everyone, hope you all have a great weekend. Well done on the weightloss putyourhatonsweetie, 6 kilos is great, has anyone noticed yet? I'm sure it'll soon be obvious to everyone.

I've had a really good week up to this evening when I've eaten a bit too much but overall I'm happy, my weigh in isn't until Monday though and I still have the weekend to get through.

Flojo1979 · 04/02/2012 12:27

Hi everyone. Well done on the weight loss, everyone is doing so well!
Stay focused CupofBJ, otherwise it'll soon spiral like me last wk.
Only lose half lb, but better than nothing.
Been given the WW journal, each wk a member takes it home and tracks, and u can't lie else the scales will know!
So far so good but too near the kitchen today.
Went seeing snow patrol last night, was fab, made sure I danced all eve to burn some cals.
Huge problem tonight tho, night out, lots of drinks and buffet food. Any ideas how to get thro it? I keep thinking I've paid £30 for this ticket so I want my monies worth!

Hathall · 04/02/2012 14:07

Well done Putyourhaton 6kg is loads!

Cupofbrownjoy whenever I do that, I can't get back into the healthy eating for ages. Its not worth it. Start using your food diary again and log everything. It will put you back in control and all the choices you make will be conscious ones. Keep drinking water and hot drinks like herbal teas.

Well done Flojo 1/2lb is still good! Glad you had fun at Snow Patrol concert. I can totally understand your mentality about getting your £30 worth. Try to have something little before you go so you're not starving. Just some soup or fruit.
Then alternate drinks with water. Have loads of salad then just a little bit of everything else you want to try. It sounds fun so enjoy!

I'm not doing too badly today. I had porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch with a few chips from chip shop that the kids wanted. We're having curry tonight so I've decided to do a veg curry and a chicken curry so I can fill up mostly on veg. I'm having loads of salad too and just a few tbsp of rice (instead of a few serving spoons!).
I'll shred later this evening as dh is going out.

TalkinPeace2 · 04/02/2012 14:27

Flojo
half your plate filled with lettuce and leave it there
and yes, big bowl of veg soup and glass of milk before you go

CupOfBrownJoy · 04/02/2012 15:11

Thanks for the support guys!

Today has been much better - in fact I went out walking and ended up going for 3 hours! So that has worked off some calories and stopped me snacking. In fact, I'm just sitting down to a very late lunch of pasta, as the only thing I have eaten all day was some scrambled egg for breakfast....

I've got a salad for later, and some fruit, so as long as I steer clear of the snacks, I should be ok.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

TalkinPeace2 · 04/02/2012 16:42

Cup
well done on the exercise - its a positive feedback loop. Activity breeds activity and exercising suppresses appetite (to do with your abdominal muscles diverting nerve signals from grumbling tummies)

Fairenuff · 04/02/2012 18:30

Well done putyourhaton great loss so far.

I've been out to buy new work trousers today because my old ones were hanging off me Smile.

I'm now nearly 2 stone lighter than I was this time last year. I started dieting properly last September and had a break over Christmas. Now I'm back on it and enjoying being able to be more active without those 2 extra stone weighing me down. Got a way to go yet but, slowly, surely, I'm seeing a change.

Keep at it girls and remember, if you can't be good today, be extra good tomorrow Wink.

Fazsaeed how's it going?

CupOfBrownJoy · 04/02/2012 18:36

thats so right TalkinPeace, in fact its odd - I couldn't eat my pasta, chucked most of it away and haven't had anything since. I really haven't felt hungry all day...

I'll have my salad in a bit though otherwise I might be tempted to snack later on.

Congratulations Fairenuff, you must feel fantastic Grin

fazsaeed · 04/02/2012 18:38

Doing really hmmm what's the word
Shit.

I ate a lot at the party which wasnt really a party because the people who we called pulled out. That upset me because it upset the dad ( his bday) we spent ages putting decorations up and a getting ready.
Today is a write off. I was so busy with preparations I didn't have time to eat until 3. Not even a glass of water since the night before!

I was very hungry.

Tomorrow I will start with my breakfast. Thats what put me off I think.

Thank you for asking and remembering
:)

CupOfBrownJoy · 04/02/2012 18:41

tomorrow is another day fazsaeed. Put it behind you. You can start with a clean slate tomorrow.

Just make sure you eat breakfast!

TalkinPeace2 · 04/02/2012 18:51

(((Faz))) - its a bugger when people let you down, but you have to learn to surf the wave rather than let it crash over you.
Have a big bowl of soup and a glass of milk before you go to bed - otherwise you will wake up ravenous and snack, rather than having something sensible

my lunch today was hot boiled egg sandwich with warm bread. BLISS
Eggs are SUCH a fab food. And a 2 egg omelette with a couple of herbs and a shave of parmesan takes under 3 minutes, is filling and healthy - its what I have when I get back late from shite meetings :-)

Fairenuff · 04/02/2012 18:53

These things happen Fazsaeed. Life just gets in the way sometimes. But you're right, a decent breakfast tomorrow will put you right back on track.

Don't eat any more today - have a long soak in the bath, paint your toenails, tidy some cupboards or catch up on some old jobs. Try to keep busy til bedtime and get right back on it tomorrow.

The important thing is not to give up. It will all be worth it in the end Smile.

Fairenuff · 04/02/2012 18:55

x post there but good point TP it is important to eat if you haven't had anything yet.

I had a brown rice and pea omlette yesterday with a grilled tomato on the side, delish Smile.

Vicky08 · 04/02/2012 19:34

fazsaeed as everyone else has already said, tomorrow is another day. Don't less this one day ruin all your hard work.

Fairenuff that's great about the trousers, it's so motivating when your clothes begin getting too big.

Today I haven't been too bad, wholemeal toast for breakfast, chicken fajitas for lunch and hm tomato soup for dinner, then after I had a manadarin and a yogurt.

I've cleaned out my wardrobe today, I've got rid of all my maternity clothes :( but I was still sometimes wearing them as "fat" clothes, not good when DS is 14 months! So now I can concentrate on dropping a few sizes so I can replace them with some new things :)

Hathall · 04/02/2012 19:49

Fazsaeed thats really rubbish of them but hey, what can you do? Its their loss seeing as you went to so much torouble. Start afresh tomorrow.

Well done fairenuff. Its great buying clothes a size down.

Vicky that sounds like a good day.

I had a bit of cake after dinner. Just a little slice.

I'm not a fan of eggs. I can't get out of my head what they actually are and it makes me feel a bit sick. Obviously, I have them as an ingredient in food then I have to try to forget that they're in the dish. Just a weird thing I have.

Are there any fans of True Blood here? I'm so excited as the new series starts today Grin

Hathall · 04/02/2012 19:50

Oh drat. Its tomorrow [disappointed]

fazsaeed · 04/02/2012 19:53

Thank you all for cheering me up and helping Thanks

SparkySparrow · 04/02/2012 20:18

Hi everyone, had a really stressful couple of days and fallen compleatly off the wagon :( .
But I am determined to get back on it tomorrow!
Giving up today as I'm currently halfway through a bottle of wine.

Hathall Is True Blood good? I used to be a bit of a vampire geek when I was in college Blush and recently stumbled across some books which seem to have got me back into it Grin . May have to give it a whirl!

CupOfBrownJoy · 04/02/2012 20:21

Enjoy the wine Sparky, then back on it tomorrow.

Hope your weekend improves.....

TalkinPeace2 · 04/02/2012 20:27

Sparky - meet you at the bottom of the bottle
BUT we must not get the late night munchies
we must be active tomorrow
we must not (each) start another bottle :-)

Faz - that is what we are for. We are your extra backbone.

Hat : I have only one thing to say
GO FOR IT www.simplyyours.co.uk/shop/product/details/show.action?pdLpUid=HH179&pdBoUid=4885&lpgUid=#colour:,size:

Hathall · 04/02/2012 20:40

Sparky True Blood is brilliant. I've never read the books but the tv series is really good. A bit norty and sexy and very entertaining Smile
I only started watching it because friends and work colleagues kept going on about it. I watched it then understood the appeal.

Talkinpeace Thanks for the link. If you can find one that covers my lumpy thighs, I might go for it Smile

SparkySparrow · 04/02/2012 20:48

I may have to give it a go! Don't think dh will be impressed though Hmm .

See you there TP ! Grin

TalkinPeace2 · 04/02/2012 20:53

Hat
your thighs are only as lumpy as you think they are - and the sooner you get swimming the sooner they stop being lumpy
believe me : after a couple of years of swimming I took the mad decision to switch to a bikini - so I slapped fake tan ALL OVER my stretch marks and went for it (in January) - just the water flowing past my skin toned it. And now I'm permatanned the wrinkly bits bother me far far less

Sparky - beat you !!! (I normally overdo it on a Friday but was driving last night so am being bad tonight)

Hathall · 04/02/2012 21:05

TalkinPeace I don't mind exercise and I'm happy to gym it and go running but swimming...? I am very body conscious and unfortunately no ladies only sessions at my local one. The other issue is I wear contacts so when I take them out for swimming I can't see very well.
Being Asian, I have a natural tan anyway Grin
I think I'll only gauge how bad my stretchmarks really are once I lose weight. At the moment, they're actually not too bad.

Sparky why won't your dh be impressed? My dh pretends he doesn't like it then watches it intently when I do. Sometimes I wish he would go away so I can ogle the sexy men in peace Grin

SparkySparrow · 04/02/2012 21:17

He doesn't get the vampire/supernatural thing. Although I suspect he will be the same as your dh and get really into it! He does the same thing with Desperate Housewives Grin .
Sexy men? Looks like I'm definitely watching it then! Grin
Will I 'get it' if I start watching it this series or do I need to watch from the beginning?
(Sorry! I know this has nothing to do with weight loss!)
