I want to lose a stone - care to join me?

RattusRattus · 03/11/2011 20:12

This is the first time i've joined in on a thread with others and I'm hoping the mutual support will give me more motivation.

I've realised that I've gradually put on a stone and I want to stop expanding and start decreasing! My clothes feel tight and uncomfortable and I need to do something about it now. Its about 6 weeks until the whole Xmas things starts to go into overdrive and I want to do some damage limitation before then.

I'm going through quite a stressful thing at the moment which is my excuse for gorging on rubbish and indulging in that extra glass of wine. IT HAS TO STOP NOW.

So I've ordered the Davina DVDs (Power of 30 and the 30 minute work outs) and aim to eat about 1500 cals per day. I want to lose 1.5lbs a week over the next 6 weeks. Ok it's not the stone I'm really after but with Xmas in the way I need to be realistic.

Anyone care to join me?

Still sticking with my Body Blitz regime, although am struggling with the 'no chocolate' element of it!! Am staying strong, but received a box of maltesers yesterday which I would love to crack open...Managed to complete my Tae Bo today though x

TheEndlessArete · 30/11/2011 22:56

Pinkcustard - I got given a large box of maltesers last week and gave them away straight away !!!!!! I absolutely love maltesers and knew I would find them hard to resist..

Entropy - that means you've lost 6lbs already !! well done !! Wink

Well, I've got my weigh in in the morning - haven't done one since this time last week when I was 11 st 13.5 lbs - the week before I didn't lose anything, so hoping that this week something will have come off. This is the end of week 3 of doing this.... eeek feels like forever !!

shaketheshame · 01/12/2011 09:34

I seemed to have beat my milk chocolate craving for now. When I feel for a treat, I eat a dark chocolate square and it does help a lot as only one square is needed to help me feel better ! I use foodfocus and I log everything I eat plus the exercises I do. Hope you are all doing well !

GravityDefier · 01/12/2011 10:57

Thanks freedom! We do eat a lot of meat at home but since coming to the UK I have been much better with that. Nevertheless I have gained so much weight since coming over here. I guess it's the stress snacking? Not sure. Where about are you?

Re the going out-one night was a dinner with my future employers [eek] so I didn't want to be too picky. But instead of picking a pizza or something with loads of cheese and dessert I went with pasta and tomato sauce, so I guess it could be worse. That should be me with going out for now. Next time I am out with friends I will ask to share though, that's a great idea!

Welcome to everyone who just joined us Smile

Trying to get back on track now after all the going out this week. Overall i don't think I have lost anything since starting on here, I did well the first few days and then I always break Blush

Making a big pot of soup in my slow cooker today. Will put in some chorizo for flavour but otherwise it's just vegetables, so I hope the chorizo is ok. I got a 6.5 litre one and last time I made a huge huge portion of soup I ate that instead of snacks, and i never got really hungry for lunch.. I hope it works.

TheEndlessArete · 01/12/2011 18:46

Hey all - really chuffed to say I've lost 3 lbs this weeks !!
So over the past 3 weeks have lost half a stone just by not snacking between meals and doing a lot of exercise....shows how much rubbish I ate before !!

wherearemysocks · 01/12/2011 20:13

I use that trick too Gravitydefier, with the big pan of soup it is good to have their when you're in the mood to raid the fridge.

Well done Endless, thats a great loss, it is amazing how a small change can make such a difference. I guess we all have to remember that so we don't just start slowly creeping back to our old ways.

My week has been pretty good so far, a big break through for me was that I was able to have a 'treat' without me getting so worked op over it that it may have ruined the whole day/week and so end up having a binge. So I had a lovely Belguim chocolate florentine from Tesco bakery and it was lovely, I enjoyed it and didn't feel 'guilty' afterwards. I've got 2 big weekends in a row coming up though that will involve food and drink, so hopefully if I keep thinking positvely that I can balance the week with the weekend then I shouldn't get too stressed over it and fall into an old trap.

TheEndlessArete · 02/12/2011 21:21

You're right Socks - we have to be careful not to creep back to our old ways.
Well done on having a 'treat' without it being a massive deal.

Anyone else doing the Shred ? I did L2 tonight for first time - feels like quite a jump after Level 1 - am sweating buckets !! Didn't do all ten days of Level one - do you think that matters ?

wherearemysocks · 03/12/2011 00:15

Hi Endless, wait till you try L3!!!

No, I'm sure it doesn't matter that much to do 10 days of each one. I mix them up and do a different one each day, although probably if I had done a week or so of L1 first and built myself up a bit then I wouldn't find the other levels so tough.

I did L2 today, it really is tough, especially those plank jacks I cant quite manage the whole 30 secs of those.

By the way if you are counting calories, I have got a heart monitor and I used it the other day when doing L3 and I used 200 calories, I was gonna use it today to compare it to L2 but I couldn't find the strap but I don't think it will be much different.

TheEndlessArete · 04/12/2011 21:06

Socks - I've never really got much into calorie counting but for some reason it feels like it should be more than 200 calories for L3 - or am I kidding myself - I like to imagine that I'm burning loads !!!!

Just did L2 - yes, it's all the plank stuff that is really really hard. Have you just carried on using 30day shred even after you've been through the 30 days ?

Felt like a victory today - had visitors for lunch so had a biggish lunch with pudding and wine but then when it came to making the kids tea I realised that I wasn't actually hungry and didn't need to eat anything else that day - felt good not just to eat for the sake of it.

How's everyone else doing ?

mamasunshine · 05/12/2011 07:16

Have only lost 1lb this week, and now only 12 days until holiday Shock always comes around so quickly!
START WEIGHT 10ST
TODAY 9ST 8LB
So I've nearly lost 1/2 a stone on here.

Will catch up shortly, needless to say another busy week for me Blush !

freedom2011 · 05/12/2011 10:32

No weight loss this week but considering the week of stuffing my face I have had, that is quite an achievement. Must avoid advent calendars, christmas markets and MIL christmas cookies this week.

05/12/2011 - 12 st 8.4lb
28/11/2011 - 12 st 8.4lb
21/11/2011 - 12 st 10 lb

PinkCustard · 05/12/2011 13:19

I've lost 1lb this week - which feels a bit of a let down after my deprivation diet this week! I'm glad I saw the week through, but I'm now going to adjust the Body Blitz rules to fit into my life better...so the 'No Wheat' rule will become 'No bread or Pasta' so I can still have bran flakes for breakfast some mornings, and the 'No Alcohol' rule will become 'No Alcohol - except 1 glass on a Friday and Saturday Night' Grin

Well done mama on not having tea after a big lunch - I'm feeling much more aware of when I'm actually hungry and have stopped eating just for the sake of it.

Starting to feel a bit Christmassy now!!!

GravityDefier · 05/12/2011 13:51

Well done for everyone with a weight loss.

I got my weigh in tonight, not sure how well I did. I haven;t weighed in for two weeks and have had my meals out etc. Don't think much will have come off.

Did a healthy food shop yesterday though with loads of veggies and fruit, waiting for the delivery guy just now. I find it easier when I have a lot at home to chose from somehow.

freedom2011 · 05/12/2011 17:23

GravityDefier sent you a PM. Good luck with the weigh in.

UserNameNotAvailable · 05/12/2011 21:59

Hi, can I join in? I probably won't be posting much but at least I can have somewhere to share how I'm doing with people in the same boat.

I started the cambridge diet in March and after 12 weeks had lost 3st (the average is 1st per month) but since June I have faffed about and almost ruined my weight loss by gaining 1st by gorging on sweets and biscuits. So I'm back on track as of today and can't wait to get into the swing of it again and in 12 weeks time be somewhere near my goal ready for my boob reduction! Grin
My start weight (today) 12st 11lbs (my scales seem to weigh about 7lbs heavier than hospital scales).
Good luck to everyone dieting Xmas Grin

GravityDefier · 05/12/2011 22:53

Yes Freedom, finally got around to answering! Sorry it took so long. I cannot seem to find my PMs on here, how do I get to my inbox? Only seem to be able to do it with the link in the email.

Hello UserName, and well done on losing so much earlier this year! I am sure you can do it again!

I lost 2.5 pounds in the last three weeks, not too bad with all my going out though.

Tonight is Nikolaus though, a German tradition where you get candy and I am sure DP has bought me some. Not sure I can resist it if it's right there waiting for me!

wherearemysocks · 06/12/2011 21:04

Hello all, well done on all the good weight loses this week.

I have good and bad news. The good bit is I fitted into my new skinny jeans on Sat night for my girls night out, had a fab night with some old friends some of whom I don't see very often.

On the downside I enjoyed it a bit too much and had lots to eat and drink and then Sunday I was hungover and had too many carbs and barely moved all day.

So after all that it seems I put on 1.5lbs this week :(

I'm determined to not let it get me down though and am already back on track and even managed a 50min run this morning, after doing the school run (a mile walk each way) and about an hour up at Oxford Street, and then another school run this afternoon.

I've got my parents coming to visit this weekend, so I am cooking on Sat night so I will be able to control that and then probably a pub lunch on Sunday so I will have to try and make sure I make a good choice for that.

Hope everyone has a good week.

TheEndlessArete · 08/12/2011 08:20

Great news Socks that you fitted into your jeans - the 1.5lb will drop off in no time, but it's hard not to get disheartened......

So was weigh in this morning and have lost 2 3/4 lbs taking my total up to nearly 10lbs lost in 4 weeks. That sounds like a huge amount but haven't seen a massive difference in my body - shows it was just lurking.

But my question this morning is this : every Wed night I've been doing a spin class after which I don't eat anything and sweat massively. Then I weigh myself every Thurs morning - is the fact I'm just back from the class meaning that my weight loss appears more than it is ? (ie is it just water loss from sweat?). I guess I should weigh myself midweek as well and see. I've been trying to do exercise 4/5 times a week, but the spin class is definitely the hardest !

Well done mama on the weightloss - where are you going on hols ? somewhere hot I hope !!

And well done gravity on the loss..!!

Pippaandpolly · 09/12/2011 17:49

Wow, looks like everyone's doing really well! I only lost 1lb this week, but given that I had a bit of a blow out on Thai food and champagne Blush I was quite pleased.

TheEndlessArete I wouldn't worry - as long as you're weighing yourself at the same time every week it shouldn't make a difference. Well done on all the spinning!

wherearemysocks · 13/12/2011 11:43

Morning all. Where is everyone this week?

I weighed in this morning and I have lost 3.5lbs. I don't think thats completely real though as I put on 1.5lbs last week, but I think a lot of that was just water retention after a boozy weekend.

Over all I have lost 9.5lbs since I started which I think was 4 weeks ago now. Only 12 days till Christmas so I won't quite have lost the stone I was hoping to by then, but I definately feel confident that I will be able to get straight back on track after Christmas and get to my end goal of 10st 3lbs (which is 1st 1lb away) by hopefully my birthday at the end of Febuary.

How is everyone else doing?

entropyglitter · 13/12/2011 12:18

Hey there...

Well I have been trying to figure out the relationship between my BM production and calories consumed...and I think the answer is that there isnt one. I think I have been fooled by my menstrual cycle (which has a high level of correlation with my eating habits..) So the good news is that I now feel free to diet.

The other good news is that I seem to have lost 3 pounds over the last two weeks just by thinking about dieting without actually changing what I eat. I am slightly mystified by this but I'm not going to turn my nose up.

wherearemysocks · 13/12/2011 16:36

Well done entropyglitter on thinking yourself thinner :). Maybe just thinking about it more made you subconsciencely make better choices without you even noticing.

btw, what's BM production?

TheEndlessArete · 13/12/2011 18:45

Well done Socks - that's a great loss ! have you noticed that your body feels smaller ? sounds like a silly question but i've lost the same sort of amount overall (nearly 10lbs) but can't see a massive difference, even though that sounds a lot - perhaps my body is good at hiding it !

Reason I've not been on this week is that, for some reason, my motivation seems to have taken a dip - not sure why, wonder if it's the time of the month and my hormones are raging a bit, but I've definitely given in a little more with snacking - almost like I'm kidding myself that I can because I'm in control now ?! Think I need to keep strong !

Am not enjoying Shred as much either - am prob only exercising every other day, but that's still better than I was doing last month.

Anyway, Christmas greetings to you all Xmas Smile

wherearemysocks · 13/12/2011 20:15

I'm sure you'll start to notice soon Endless, and I bet if you asked others they will have noticed it on you. Do you have a particular pair of jeans or something you can use as a guide? I put my belt in an extra notch yesterday which is always a nice boost. I was also scratching my upper arm, the other day and really thought that my bicep felt more defined, which I wouldn't have noticed looking in the mirror.

Try to find some positives to focus on, do you have more energy or better skin or hair? Or just try and feel proud that you have stuck to a healthy eating plan. It'll all come together soon.

If you are finding Shred a bit tedious I can recommend trying a kettle bell. I got mine and another Jillian dvd from Amazon but you can pick them up in Argos too. But anyway, every other day is brilliant, don't be too hard on yourself you are doing really well and try not to get too downbeat.

Xmas Smile
entropyglitter · 14/12/2011 18:34

where sorry BM is in this case breast milk. I had thought that whenever I tried to diet I was losing out on milk but in reality I think I just make less milk pre AF (which is when I feel bloated and hence my mind turns to dieting).

Am struggling to get out of the house atm (prob due to pnd) which is making exercise difficult...I think I need this shred thing so I can try and exercise without going out....

Well done to everyone on the weight losses!
