I want to lose a stone - care to join me?

RattusRattus · 03/11/2011 20:12

This is the first time i've joined in on a thread with others and I'm hoping the mutual support will give me more motivation.

I've realised that I've gradually put on a stone and I want to stop expanding and start decreasing! My clothes feel tight and uncomfortable and I need to do something about it now. Its about 6 weeks until the whole Xmas things starts to go into overdrive and I want to do some damage limitation before then.

I'm going through quite a stressful thing at the moment which is my excuse for gorging on rubbish and indulging in that extra glass of wine. IT HAS TO STOP NOW.

So I've ordered the Davina DVDs (Power of 30 and the 30 minute work outs) and aim to eat about 1500 cals per day. I want to lose 1.5lbs a week over the next 6 weeks. Ok it's not the stone I'm really after but with Xmas in the way I need to be realistic.

Anyone care to join me?

Poppaandpolly, I think 10 weeks is still quite early for such strenuous excercise. Is there anything like a 'buggy fit' class near you? I joined one when dd2 was about 8/10 weeks and as well as being nice to mix with other new mums, the teacher was able to instruct to each individual with regards to how old their babies were.

Thanks Endless, I have managed to resist quite well over the weekend. I did have a glass of red wine last night but the only unplanned snack I had was a small bowl of sugar free Alpen, which for me was quite good as usually once I start I don't stop. I'm feeling quite chuffed tonight aswell, I took dd1 to the cinema to see Arthur Christmas (really good btw), she had a bag of Aero bubbles and I managed to resist them too.

How is everyone else doing?

freedom2011 · 28/11/2011 09:49

Hello, end of the first week here and time for a weigh in. I have started pretty gently by just cutting down my snacking and trying to include fresh fruit and vegetables in my all meals and drinking more water and less sugary drinks. So no major shock to the system, but also no major weight loss. Just 1.6lb. Still, better than nothing. I might try some exercise this week.

28/11/2011 - 12 st 8.4lb
21/11/2011 - 12 st 10 lb

Have a good week everybody.

GravityDefier · 28/11/2011 11:01

1.6 pounds is good, well done freedom!

I am going out for dinner three times this week, work stuff and privately. So I am not sure how this will go for me. I am currently just trying to not do a lot of snacking (so hard!) and eat consciously and healthily at dinner times. I have also done more sports, went to zumba twice last week in addition to my usual classes.
I don't seem to have lost anything but I have been feeling quite healthy the last week or so, so all the fruit and movement seems to be doing me good. I just wish it would actually make a difference, but I guess I am not doing enough for that Sad

freedom2011 · 28/11/2011 11:45

Thanks GravityDefier Your English is amazingly good. Better than my German anyway. The German diet is really bread and meat heavy, especially here in Bavaria. When my husband and I gave up bread and meat for lent, he dropped 8kg in 40 days.

I do find food in restaurants way fattier and much bigger portions than I would serve myself at home (well, the portions I serve when actually trying to be healthy and think about what I am eating) If I go out with a friend, one will order pizza and the other salad and then we share. Or we just have starters. And drink mineral water. Would that be an option?

PinkCustard · 28/11/2011 14:13

Well things stalled a bit on the health front over the weekend, but today I'm starting the Body Blitz plan, which is: No wheat, No alcohol, No sugar, No dairy (except milk with b.fast if needed) and No carbs after 6pm. Have just made a delicious mushroom & chicken risotto for lunch from the book, and I've also done my Tae Bo dvd today too. So here's hoping that in a couple of weeks time I can fit into the sparkly party dress I've just ordered!

Well done on weight loss Freedom

TheEndlessArete · 28/11/2011 15:06

Hi All -
Well done freedom - 1.6lbs is really good ! Think about how heavy 1.6lbs of sugar is - you'll be glad not to have that hanging off your body!
And Socks, well done for resisting !!
Pinkcustard - what is Tae Bo? is it like Tae chi ?

I've done 3days of the Shred - really enjoying the ache of it - after 4 babbas, I'm not sure there are actually any abdominal muscles left - so am enjoying finding them again !!

Although I didn't actually lose any weight last week, I'm definitely feeling different - I'm enjoying exercising and one pair of jeans I have definitely feel a little looser, although a different pair don't yet, but they're a bit higher, so maybe haven't lost too much round the waist yet.

Planning a jog tonight and then might do a shred afterwards if I can be bothered. It's such miserable weather here, though, that the thought of jogging outside in the dark isn't too inviting........!!!

entropygirl · 28/11/2011 15:42

is it too late to join?

wherearemysocks · 28/11/2011 16:35

Never too late entropygirl :)

Well done everyone. That sounds quite hardcore pinkcustard, I hope it goes well. I've pretty much cut right down on sugar and wheat but I still need to enjoy a nice glass of red wine after work sometimes, although I have been good and sticking to just one.

endless I was gonna try and talk myself into doing a shred tonight, but I hate running at night, I'm too clumsy and would fall over in the dark I'm sure. And don't forget you are probably building some lean muscle so that will be why a slower weight loss last week, I know it sounds crap but its true so keep it up.

Another weigh in here today, I think I've lost 2lbs this week. I'll have to start writing it down.

freedom2011 · 28/11/2011 16:45

2lbs? In one week!? Well done wherearemysocks! You're spuring me on to try harder.

freedom2011 · 28/11/2011 16:56

FGS - Spurring me on I mean. If only I lost weight as easily as I lose letters when trying to spell.

mamasunshine · 29/11/2011 10:19

Weighed yesterday, 2lb loss so now 9st 9lb!

Argh cannot wait to get to 9 stone now...feeling quite motivated still, however did have a little bit of chocolate over the weekend, but also did lots of walking. I'm just having a kitkat if I really feel I need a chocolate fix Hmm Grin they have very few calories in comparison to everything else!

Have to confess I still haven't started the 30DS and going away in 2 1/2 weeks Shock Someone please MAKE me do it! If I started it today I figure I could do 4 days on L1, then 7 days on L2 and L3 each before I get into my bikini! I know it would make a difference as I did 8 days on L1 a few months ago and both dh and I noticed a change in that short time! Well done to everyone doing it, and great weightloss for everyone still Smile

entropygirl · 29/11/2011 11:21

hmmm I think I am too heavy for this thread.....I dont want to sit on it and accidentally break it.

Is the shred thing any good?

What about the couch to 5K?

I did a 10K run 2 years ago (was fat then rather than super fat), but the thought of going through all that again is a little overwhelming.

mamasunshine · 29/11/2011 12:35

entropygirl - there's no such thing as too big for this thread Smile We're all on the same journey, just different starting points etc. I started at over 12 stone after dc3, started 'dieting' once I'd stabilised at 11 and 1/2 stone and somehow godknowshow Hmm I've managed to get down to 9st9. Very happy but still a little way to go, more toning and sorting my jelly belly Wink

The shred is IMO brilliant! You just have to get that 1st session out of the way then after the 1st few days it's almost addictive.

The couch to 5K also brilliant! But don't try and start both together, I did and got shin splints. Too much too quick. So I reassessed and started with watching food intake, now 30 DS, once I've done that I'll start the couch to 5K.

Just one step at a time x

entropygirl · 29/11/2011 13:29

okay so weighing yourself then.....do people do that unclothed? got weighed last week at hospital with shoes and outdoor coat on...am pretty sure that didnt help....

TheEndlessArete · 29/11/2011 13:40

Hi all....

Nice to have you join us entropygirl, do you have a target of how much weight you want to lose ? Personally I try and remove as much clothing as possible to weigh myself - this is why I don't understand how people are happy to get weighed at Weightwatchers etc - IMO the coat/shoes you were wearing at the hospital probably added on at least half a stone, LOL! Please stick with us, if you feel this thread might help - you're more than welcome.

Mamasunshine - I know what you mean about Shred being a little addictive - it feels soooooo good to ache and to feel muscles in my stomach that I've not used in years. Go on, do it, you know you want to, and if you've already done L1 before you can fast-track it in 2.5wks !

Having a good day myself - went for a jog in the howling rain last night while DD was at a dancing class - felt really good, then came home and only ate a warm chicken salad. I honestly feel liberated - there is an open packet of chocolate balls in the fridge and I haven't had one, or even come close to it !

Thanks ladies, I'm really appreciating this thread - my DH is already sick of me endlessly talking about it all, so nice to come and share on here Smile.

entropygirl · 29/11/2011 13:55

erm okay Im not sure I can type this without crying but I think I need to loose around 25 kg..... I really think I will cry if I convert that to pounds....55 lbs.

Awesome...well at least that's put a name to the beast.

and Im not crying.

Right this is all good......

shaketheshame · 29/11/2011 14:03

Hi there ! Can I join ? I'm 5 feet 7 for 13.5. I put on about 3 stones because I was drinking way too much over the last 4-5 years. Also, I have stopped smoking in April and I also put on weight because of that. I do not drinking anymore not even for special occasion. However, my sugar addiction is worst than ever..to give you an example how bad it is..I had a bag of Maomam (haribo) for my tea on sunday. Ideally, I would love to lose a weight before xmas.

I have started to train for 5k races, I ran 20 minutes yesterday and did 3 k, am also planning on doing other exercices.

Regarding food, I have tried the gi diet and Paul Mckenna, I did them when I was still drinking heavily, I may give another go !

I wish you all the best !!

mamasunshine · 29/11/2011 14:26

theendlessarete - I'm impressed Shock jogging in the rain and not sneaking a choc! Well done Smile !

I only ever weigh myself in my underwear! I really don't need any extra weight on those scales with me! If I was weighing in clothes ie weigh watchers I would wear the lightest outfit I had, and try to wear the same/similar thing each week...and I would take my shoes off 1st!

entropygirl - that's only what 3 1/2 stone? honestly it will not take too long to lose. But I would focus on 1 small target to begin with, then make a new target each time. For e.g when I was 11.4 I just couldn't get any lower but was focusing on being 9 stone! I decided to just concentrate on getting to 11 stone, made a few small changes each week and so on. So maybe tackle 1/2 a stone at a time?

welcome shaketheshame you sound like you're already doing really well!

Pippaandpolly · 29/11/2011 15:05

entropygirl I started at 13st 10lbs a month ago and my goal is 10st - that's 52lbs so pretty much the same as you. Am very pleased to announce that at my weigh in this morning (Oh - and I always take my coat, shoes and any cardigans etc off at WW!) I'd lost another 3lbs which takes me to 1st in 4 weeks - woohoo!

mamasunshine · 29/11/2011 15:09

OMG pippaandpolly you've done amazingly well! Well done Smile!

freedom2011 · 29/11/2011 17:40

entropygirl - you can totally do it.

pippaandpolly - wow!

shakethesame you gave up booze and fags? impressed If you have the willpower to do that, losing a few pounds is going to be well within reach.

So I said I would exercise this week and have actually been out for a walk today and yesterday. Just over 5 miles. Tomorrow I might try and jog some of it or maybe just go for a swim depending on the weather.

entropygirl · 29/11/2011 18:27

Thanks for the encouragement! (in fact thanks for not pointing and laughing - it was a great deal harder to come out about my weight than I was expecting, I clearly am now officially ashamed of myself :()

Pippa That is truly fab!

shaketheshame · 29/11/2011 20:41

Entro - if it makes you feel better, 4 years ago dh used to be 25 kg heavier than me, now I'm 2 kg heavier than him oopla !! Grin

Pippaandpolly · 29/11/2011 21:13

Entropygirl - Weightwatchers, beloved Weightwatchers! Grin

entropygirl · 30/11/2011 16:26

In a process not dissimilar to quantitative easing I now need to lose 22.5 kg or 49 lbs.

Not sure that sounds significantly better but hey.
