I want to lose a stone - care to join me?

RattusRattus · 03/11/2011 20:12

This is the first time i've joined in on a thread with others and I'm hoping the mutual support will give me more motivation.

I've realised that I've gradually put on a stone and I want to stop expanding and start decreasing! My clothes feel tight and uncomfortable and I need to do something about it now. Its about 6 weeks until the whole Xmas things starts to go into overdrive and I want to do some damage limitation before then.

I'm going through quite a stressful thing at the moment which is my excuse for gorging on rubbish and indulging in that extra glass of wine. IT HAS TO STOP NOW.

So I've ordered the Davina DVDs (Power of 30 and the 30 minute work outs) and aim to eat about 1500 cals per day. I want to lose 1.5lbs a week over the next 6 weeks. Ok it's not the stone I'm really after but with Xmas in the way I need to be realistic.

Anyone care to join me?

Can I join please? DD is nearly 9 weeks (she is second DC). I put on 3 stone when pregnant with her. I've lost about 2 of it so clearly the last stone was just pie, sausage rolls and crisps that I gorged on for 9 months!! I'm 5'2" and currently 10st 3lb, would like to be under 9 ideally.

I'm just trying to eat healthily but I am trying to go to the gym at least 3 times a week and I do work hard when I go.

FreckledLeopard · 09/11/2011 10:53

So, day three. Did my Day Two Shred yesterday. Ate super-well. Just had healthy porridge for breakfast. Feeling half-virtuous and half annoyed that I can't eat the delicious cupcakes brought in by a colleague for his birthday.

Am craving take away - Indian specifically. I could scoff onion bhajis, naan and chicken korma. Instead I will try and be content with a satsuma.

Pippaandpolly · 09/11/2011 15:42

FreckledLeopard you could make curry pretty healthily and easily - don't just have a satsuma and feel unsatisfied!

strandednomore · 09/11/2011 15:57

Hi - I am another one, just started weightwatchers and currently on week 8 of C25k so doing almost 3x30min runs a week. I will be weighed in on Monday but was 10st11lb last mon and would like to lose a stone.
Foodwise, yesterday I had SpecialK and banana for breakfast (on the new WW propoints you can apparently eat as much fruit, including banana, as you want which is a bonus!), toast sandwich with WW low-fat cheese spread and lettuce, low fat crisps and a WW chocolate bar for lunch, then a chicken breast with a Moroccan rub, green beans and peas and dry-fried potatoes and onion for supper, followed by a WW rice pud and a small piece of dark chocolate.
Blimey reading that back makes me realise I am really buying into the WW stuff! They are doing well from me because I have a ww cottage pie for tonight...

gigglepin · 09/11/2011 15:57

WHOOP WHOOP ive cut sugar out of coffee entirely now! I just did it, ive always had 1/2 teaspoons in my coffe. Its ok actually.

Didnt go to WW last night as my printer was on the blink and you need the coupon to get the £1 registration, but no amtter, im going to carry on till next week.

Do you know, i feel better all ready. CANT WAIT till my clothes feel comfy again.
Whats every one having to tea tonight?????

bucketbetty · 09/11/2011 18:20

I've had a really rubbish day today and feel very very guilty (didn't stop me eating two chunks of chocolate though). I had my allbran for breakfast with skimmed milk (a small amount) then banana mid morning but really craved carbs and bought 4 bits of pakora and a samosa and a veg wrap (goodness gracious me). I've got home and I'm still hungry but making a small veg curry with a little bit of brown rice. I'll get back on track tomorrow. I don't think I've lost anything this week. I just hope I haven't put any of the 6 pounds I lost last week back on. Sad

ClaudiaSchiffer · 09/11/2011 21:08

Bucketbetty you lost SIX lbs last week, wow, that's fantastic.

Try not to stress too much about today, it doesn't sound too bad really.

It's breakfast time here, I'm starting with a Dr Stuart's Detox tea then on to porridge and fruit , dunno about the rest of the day but was an absolute STAR yesterday so am feeling very in the ZONE. Already I can see my deeply attractive pot belly reducing a bit. So Hurrah1

I can't weigh myself yet tho as haven't got round to buying batteries for the scales. But I fully expect that I've shrunk by at least a stone in the last few days. Grin

RattusRattus · 09/11/2011 23:25

Doing well here- not snacking at all. I've worked out that that's where the calories lie. I'm determined not to diet - just eat sensibly.

Obviously next week's weigh in will prove my theory? Confused

FreckledLeopard · 10/11/2011 10:09

Cravings for curry have subsided somewhat! Feeling quite perky this morning as I was in the office til gone eight last night, commute home, then still did my Shred DVD, had some beans on toast and went to sleep! Healthy muesli and blackberries for breakfast today and I'm aching a lot less that I was yesterday too, so perhaps my body is getting used to the daily exercise.

Weighed myself this morning and appear to have lost around 2 pounds since Monday - in theory I ought to weigh myself just once a week to get a more accurate picture, but still - feeling happy! Just want to get down to nine stone by mid-December. Currently 9 stone 12lbs so 12lbs to go!

strandednomore · 10/11/2011 11:07

rattusrattus - I agree, it's the little things here and there which add up. With me it's snacks (even though most of my snacks are relativelu healthy) but also eating a bit of cheese here and there while preparing the dd's food, finishing their leftovers etc. That's why I find tracking - eg writing down everything I eat - the only way to lose the weight as then I know what I'm eating!
Been good so far today but am Hungry and craving something sweet...

PinkCustard · 10/11/2011 16:38

Hello,

You're all doing so well! I'm just marking my place and formally stating my intention to start next week (was my birthday on Tuesday and I've got my own body weight in Thornton's chocs to polish off first!).

Although I have been making a conscious effort to improve my eating habits already - had scrambled eggs for b.fast and homemade veg soup for lunch. I really need some good healthy ideas for evening meals though as this is where I really struggle - anyone have any good recipes or know a good meal planner website?

I've also decided to cut out booze completely (apart from when actually out for a night out but that's VERY rare these days) so that should cut some cals and improve my health a bit.

I'm also finally going to crack open my new kickboxing dvd and get back into regular exercise too.

Sorry for the big rambling post - I feel more determined to make a proper start now I've written it all down and am hoping that joining a thread will prevent me from 'forgetting' my good intentions after 2 days Smile

CheerfulYank · 10/11/2011 17:20

I am not doing all that well. :( I went to the cinema with friends last night and just had to have buttered popcorn and jr mints. :(

Oh well, it's a new day. Today I've had three Blush small pieces of toast (cinnamon raisin bread). That's basically all I have; I need to go shopping! Will have veggie soup for lunch when I get home. Also, I'm determined to put on my running shoes and take DS and the dog jogging around the park this afternoon. I'll do it so I can report back to all of you! :)

CheerfulYank · 10/11/2011 17:21

Also I've decided to weigh myself on Sunday mornings...the day to day little fluctuations are too stressful! :)

bucketbetty · 10/11/2011 18:44

I've given up!!! I've put on 2 bloody pounds! I've been eating like a bloody sparrow. I was feeling so good last week. I had one off day and now I feel myself slipping back into bad habits. Today I had my miniscule bowl of all bran with a tiny bit of skimmed milk, I had a sandwich for lunch (cheese and onion) because I was ravenous and the sandwich van pulled up as I was pulling into work , then a weightwatchers yogurt, some grapes later. For dinner 2 (last night's curry) left over wraps. The curry was homemade and very low fat - just veg. Then I noticed there were 4 chocolate squares in the fridge and since I've had such a bad day I've treated myself to a glass of wine and the chocolate squares. All in all, not a great day. Sad

Pippaandpolly · 10/11/2011 19:33

PinkCustard I find eating a lot of fish keeps me on track - it's healthy and delicious and stops me eating unhealthy sides as well, as when I have fish it just feels right to have salad, or broccoli or something similar you know!?

Bucketbetty you might just be a bit bloated or something - don't give up! Next week's weigh in might be big to compensate. And 4 chocolate squares is fine! You have to allow yourself some treats otherwise you'll go mad :)

I just ate Dominos Shock I worked out that a personal size (7'') pizza with reduced fat cheese (really can't taste the difference between this and the normal stuff - lets be honest, it all tastes of plastic Blush) and only veggie toppings - mushroom and pineapple in my case - is 15 points. I have 30 points a day and had only used 14 on my breakfast and lunch, so figured why not Grin But even though I've stuck within my points I am slightly sceptical that this will work...

Pippaandpolly · 10/11/2011 19:33

Bucketbetty - that should read 'next week's weigh in LOSS might be big'!!

RattusRattus · 11/11/2011 11:17

Had a sneaky weigh today - looks like I've lost 1lb. Still a few days to go till the official weigh in though. But I always find I lose loads the first week and then it all starts to slow down.

Why is that?!

OP posts:
strandednomore · 11/11/2011 18:53

I need some help/ideas/inspiration! In a few weeks time I am going to an all-day tutorial. Everyone brings something for a shared lunch and we generally stuff ourselves on things like pizza, quiche, jacket potatoes, crisps etc. I am really hoping I will have made some progress and lost a few pounds (or at least one or two) by then and really don't want to put it all back on in one go. But neither do I want to make a big deal of it. So I am trying to think of something I could take to the lunch that I (and others) could eat so I can "join in" without using too many points. All I have come up with so far is some grilled chicken breasts, maybe some nice ham, and boring old plain salad...Any ideas welcome!
I wouldn't normally worry about one meal but the following week I am going out with friends for a Christmas meal and so don't want two big blow-outs at once!
Thanks.

TheEndlessArete · 11/11/2011 19:40

Hi all, is it too late for me to join you?

Long term want to lose probably a stone overall not really by dieting but by exercising and not snacking between meals (or in evening) - ie a change in habits rather than a crash diet.

However, have put on about half a stone since summer and would like to be quite strict with myself to begin with so that I can lose some weight quite quickly and fit comfortably into my jeans again.

Weighed myself yesterday and had a shock - 12 st 3lb eeeek !

How often are you all weighing yourself ? The temptation is to do it all the time but I know that's not right !!

RattusRattus · 11/11/2011 19:43

It's never too late! Welcome to the thread! Love the fact that there are so many of us.

The EndlessArete - that's more my approach. DH is a total foodie and he makes it almost impossible to diet with his fabulous kitchen wizardry and I reckon it's the snacking that's causing the main weight gain so I'm ditching it completely except for two biscuits or a banana when I get home from work as I have to eat lunch really early and he's never back before 8.30 so I'm weak with hunger by then without something!

OP posts:
TheEndlessArete · 11/11/2011 19:49

Yes, I think it's snacking that gets me - all the typical times (late afternoon, evening). I think it's probably a remnant from four pregnancies, where to feel hungry was a bad thing, because you could quite quickly feel faint etc. I'd like to relearn how to tolerate the hunger pangs !

What's this shred thing people are talking about ? I'm a jogger (dormant) but have been finding it hard to get out as my husband is often out working, so if it was a DVD or something, that would help.

cruelladepoppins · 11/11/2011 22:57

[puff!][pant!] can I join too?

I have recently lost my motivation to stay slim - I had lost a stone last year and thought I had changed my habits pretty well, but I was wavering before I went on holiday recently, pigged out somewhat on hol (the food was gorgeous), and now I am home I just keep on eating! After snacking today (variously on almost a whole pack of pistachio nuts, a slab of fruit and nut chocolate and a Titan bar), I realise I can't go on like this.

Also I have stopped going to my weekly Zumba class because (paradoxically) it wasn't hard enough!

I am heading back to my British Heart Foundation healthy eating plan to recalibrate my habits. I found last time I enjoyed snacking on fruit at coffee-time instead of biscuits and choc, have to get back there!

I started in a teeny way this afternoon by refusing a biscuit with a cup of tea at a friend's house. Tomorrow I am watching DS2 in a footy match with DS1 by my side and will have to remember to avoid the kind of snacks I will be buying them.

Arete, the advice I have seen is to weigh yourself once a week always at the same time (pref first thing with no clothes on). DH and I have been weighing daily for a laugh, and right enough it fluctuates by 2 or 3 pounds in the week - for both of us. Haven't seen any evidence it magically stabilises on a Sunday at 10 a.m. or whatever!

GravityDefier · 12/11/2011 09:55

I had pizza yesterday Sad. Doesn't seem to have effected my scales too much (at least not yet), but still. After I had it I felt really guilty, but I am working on my degree at the moment and when I came from the library last night I just really couldn't be bothered anymore.

Welcome TheEndless and Cruella, it's never too late to join!

Cruella, you didn't find zumba hard enough? Wow, I am impressed with your level of sportiness. I go through at least 2 bottles of water and am super sweaty afterwards.

Arete, shred is a DVD, yes. You have to do it every day but it's only 20 minutes. I did it a while back and somehow gave up but it was quite enjoyable. Should probably take it back up. Google it, I got it quite cheaply off amazon.

Stranded, you could make a nice pasta or potato salad. I only have recipes with mayonnaise but I am sure there are low fat varieties around. Google? Maybe some ryvita or with mozzarella (you can take less of that) and tomatoes and basil on top?

gigglepin · 12/11/2011 10:12

Printed off the ww coupon ready for Monday.
On my scales ive lost dundundun.....1Lb all on my own, ive cut out sugar in my coffee which equates to about 4 T spoons a day, 28 T spoons per week!!
Ive been having wobbles though, shaky, sicky and stuff so ive made sure ive had a bit of something regularly.
Also fancied chocolate the other day so i had a small galaxy bar.
Ive been really good ......for me!
Looking forward to being comfortable in my clothes again!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 12/11/2011 11:19

Hi everyone, stranded, what about taking a fruit platter? Lots of yummy watermelon etc or a load I'd crudités and low fat dip? You can stuff yourself with that and leave the filthy greasy quiches alone.

I've been doing ok, a bit heavy on the wine last night but food wise have had no snacks (apart from a few home made cookies which don't really count as they're full of healthy stuff - Oats etc treacle, sugar, butter)
